I would recommend fitting the SCO frame shift drives only from now on, it makes life much easier getting around systems.

I can consider myself an Elite veteran at this point with 5 accounts and all of them with Fleet Carriers and boat load of money but I'm still here watching Hawkes' video, why? because believe me, he freaking now his stuff, how do you think I did all my grinding on all of those accounts? yes, by following Hawkes' tips. Consider this video as a shortcut to mid-game, without this, you will be flying around aimlessly in space, unless that's what you're really going for, then it's fine. o7 commanders, see you in space.

Great video as always CMDR. Re the guardian pylons, I learnt very early on that it's easier (for me) to drive around and raise all the pylons first. Then it's easier to find them when you zoom round doing a speed lap to charge each one after against the timer. I always start from the 2 at the alter and zoom round charging all the others. Just calling this out as most guides show each pylon being raised and charged at the same time, and could give new users the impression it HAS to be done this way. o7

@@theodore7313 your not wrong. You will get there. If I could give a piece of advice. Don't chase high specs, a mid tier pc with say an i7 10700k and a 3060 or the amd equivalent will be very solid for the average gamer
Great video, very helpful. I do have a couple of questions though. When researching the player faction how can you tell that they are likely to have the missions for Bertrandite etc. and do they start to appear when Expansion is pending or do you have to wait until they are in Expansion?

What was the time frame for you to go from sidewinder to fleet carrier? And thanks for this ive recently started playing on pc from scratch.
It took warteck and I 6 days but we also did the full material grind as well.

@@Kallivakgames The majority of those 6 days was spent farming engineering materials. We did expansion trading for 2-1/2 days total.

I am kinda stuck at the start where i go and have to "wait" before i kill those pirates for bounty... the problem is that they aren't fighting... or if they are... there are 3-4-5 pirates vs. 1 ship....

It took me from start to finish 7 days to get to this point from a fresh save. You do realize that's not a lot of time to get that deep into Elite right?

Great guide! I do have a question about the FSD, why not SCO? It seems like its always nice to have the option and I don't see any drawbacks if you just don't use SCO if you're low on fuel.
The RES search tool, while also still exists, is no longer maintained or supported.

I sometimes feel like there is missing information, why is moon 3c at 7:30 the best choice?
He said the half-moons represent a landable surface. Then saying that,"In almost every single case life can be found on a planet or moon that has an atmosphere of some type. This is represented by the blue bubble that completely surrounds the landable surface.". With that information 3c is only one with the bubble and not just the half-moon.
New player trying to follow along with you. Went to system HIP 98878 and I can't find any pirates engaged in battle, I've been going back and forth between locations in the system for a few hours and I'm just wasting my time. Sad times
I went through the same thing when I first did this a year ago. The trick I found was to fly around at medium to high speed and keep an eye on the radar display. Eventually a few triangles would pop up (most times it's miners or a few space cops), and fly towards that vicinity. Then scan every ship nearby which would lead to either me finding a pirate, or continuing my search elsewhere and repeat. Hopefully this helps 👍

What you are showing is the best start for players who already played for about a year before.
You must mean actually completes the training scenarios and starts like I did with a brand new account and Commander.
Is any of this even relevant if you don't have Odyssey? I haven't played in years so I was looking for a refresher. All of this is completely alien to me, though.
How do you get the 3rd person camera?
Strg + Alt + Space
If you modify your route settings to have only KGBFOAM stars you will always be able to scoop the star.
If you turn off the lights of your SRV in low light conditions actually helps spotting things because the rest of the image on your screen will not be dimmed.
What if I don't have any friends?
It's embarrassing to need an out of game resource within the first 5 minutes of the video :( In Elite Dangerous you can't look at the galaxy map to filter ships or modules. In 2024 you can't look up module/ship availability via in game methods.
I wonder why? The data exists otherwise the out of game resources won't exist either so why can't FDEV provide that functionality in game?

Used play elite on Ps4... Had over 1000 hours in twelve months... Had all the ships i wanted... Corvette, anaconda, python, vulture etc etc... All fitted out to grade five maxed out.. Completed trips to colonia and Sag A*... Not to mention reached triple elite... Absolutely loved the game then got fucked over by Frontier not giving a shit about console so over early Odyssey release played less and less till I couldn't justify putting any more time in... Anyhow long story short bought an x box series x twelve months ago (late to the party, 😂) had a moment of madness and bought elite again... Cant even transfer my progress wtf... Now sitting in my entry level sidewinder... I just cant do it all again... I need therapy 😂😂
And yet.... just buying a pc was never an option??? A low mid tier pc will run this game fine in 2024

Hey Hawkes, i just transferred my save over to PC from console and own odyssey. I had billions and multiple engineered ships already, thanks to your past videos. Do you have a guide for transferring players or can you recommend one, because i dont know where to start now that im here in odyssey. Thanks
I recommend starting the game for the first time in Horizons, you get a ship and start in the start zone, then restart in Odyssey.

I'd love to know more about how to do cargo hauling for profit if anyone has tips. I think I'm misreading the trade menu.
Just want to point out that if you buy the diamondback explorer at the begining, yu are going to kill your run. im stuck on a station, no money, and I cant jump because the range on that thing sucks hard. Buy the hauler, I technically need to restart my game I think.. or just give up on ed, this is very disapointing
make sure the fsd is 5a and other modules are d rated to save weight. Should be doable I managed with a diamondback scout.
It is literally impossible to soft-lock yourself at any point in the game. If you're stuck without fuel you can blow yourself up (even with 0 credits in your account, you will be given a loan or back to a sidewinder) or if you're in a populated system you can go to signal sources to salvage commodities to sell at the local station (select signal source -> open cargo hatch -> target material -> play the minigame in the lower left of your HUD lining up the cargo at a low speed) done. I'm not trying to be rude but try thinking for yourself. This guide is very color by the numbers, and I have verified it to be still working on an alt-account.
Question for all commanders. With that expansion credit farming method, what kind of info am I looking for? Does it have to be an agricultural/Industrial system or just Agricultural? And what effect does Industrial Failure have on anything?

I usually don’t make comments without finishing a video, so apologies if this was addressed later. It just really stood out to me in the first few minutes and I wasn’t seeing any addendum or correction forthcoming there.
Was this filmed a month or two ago? Why are you recommending a 2A FSD instead of the 2A SCO FSD which is outright much stronger than the 2A (SCO size 2’s actually get the strongest relative boost to jump range over standard) and includes the SCO feature which makes exobiology and DSS scanning *much* more engaging (and faster)?
For just about 300k total I got a new start friend into a 22-24 (can’t remember the exact number) light year per-jump sidewinder, which was enough for them to easily get the 100k-1mil exploration systems right by chandler’s rest. For some reason it seems some systems near there give exploration data on all planets simply for entering the system (which I don’t get anymore after getting some ranks, so not sure if it’s a bug or some new player help feature) which lets you get the funds for a DSS basically immediately, and an Artemis suit, from which you can DSS the several earthlike or terraformed earthlikes in nearby pilot’s federation systems for additional easy exploration data starting funds.
Definitely more than enough for the hauler let alone going straight up to a DBX or Asp (though without doing some extra work wouldn’t recommend it, think you don’t have enough to fully outfit the asp, probably enough for the DBX).
The Erravate system is pretty near to the horizon’s starter area and the odyssey one, sort of halfway between them, and has a 1.7m exploration payout from DSS the ELW and HMCs, and has a planet with fonticula (3.7m or something like that) and bacteria (we couldn’t easily find the bacteria though, so didnt spend time gathering it). With SCO the whole process basically just took as long as the DSS mini game takes, which is pretty quick with a tutorial going over the basics, per planet. Aside from the fonticula, which requires doing exobiology.
All of this data is from helping a friend learn game mechanics over this last weekend (2024-05-31 range).
I think you're right about the SCO and the filming being done a few months ago. It says supercut, so it seems like this is more of a cut of a "Get a Fleet Carrier ASAP" challenge run - which is also cool. But it's hardly a 2024 beginners guide if it doesn't at least mention SCO. I can't see any drawbacks to it so I was hoping he would address it.
@@EnderGraff1 SCO drives have two incredibly niche drawbacks, three of you count being a little more expensive than the non-SCO class A drive (and even that gets countered by the fact a class *D* SCO drive is usually as strong as a class *A* non-SCO drive, while being significantly cheaper).
1) You can’t undersize an SCO drive, some people have use cases where they extremely want to be as light as possible for real space top speed and so will equip the smallest FSD possible for their use to cut mass as much as possible. You can’t do that with an SCO drive.
2a) The SCO drives are not better than the class 6 and 7 (if a class 7 existed) pre-engineered FSD drives in jump range, ever so slightly. In exchange having the SCO feature though.
2b) Additionally, the SCO drives in jump range are not better than a pre-engineered FSD of *any* size, except the size 2 iirc (which doesn’t have a pre-engineered anyway), for the same amount of fuel. I.e. they’re not as fuel efficient. The only reason they slightly beat out the max jump range for sizes between 3 and 5 is because of being able to use more fuel at max range. So if you really cared about economical plotting, doing a series of as short as possible hops, and had a pre-engineered drive for your ship size, you could choose to use that over the SCO drive technically.
They’re all pretty niche though as you can see, and mostly only apply to the double engineered drive which only the class 5 would even be available to a new player, the others being from past CGs only.

Now it took me awhile with my python to make billions for a fleet carrier about a days play. I made 6.5 billion evacuating refugees and became elite trader level 5. The cutter can make more per hour, but the appropriate landing zone takes longer to reach, thus slowing down the grind.
Got everything right up until the expansion trading then my brain was telling me you were speaking another language lol

I think this "get rich quick" videos is doing big harm to the game. Players do not even get the opportunity to enjoy the game, do the job and get paid, make things actually worth... Instead they quickly get all the ships and then what? Relog farming?
The only thing left is to bitch about lack of materials which would not have happened if the game was played in normal way.
Get rich quick? I made money on day one and then on day six. It was not quick by any standards of the word. What I did do though was go from sidewinder to fleet carrier as well as a few other things and the full material grind for ships. Whats to do after that? Pretty much anything they want. Or they can come to a video and then be sour about experienced commanders sharing knowledge with new players. I guess they could do that too.
@@HawkesGaming Dunno, I played that way earlier and got bored after 1-2 weeks. But the slow approach, no grind, no relog farming... really got me invested. I don't want to do "anything" without any goal, I want a target to reach. And FD made the game for this approach; it is a marathon, not a sprint.
Think of any other sandbox game. You don't get everything overnight right? Once you do, you restart the game because it has no challenge and no goal anymore.
One of the reasons I don't ever start ED is because I watch one of these videos, get complexity overload, and then trash the idea. I would rather have an organic learning experience that feels like gameplay instead of a workload like this. Seriously, X4 and SC are nowhere near this busy.
@@hellgeist_ Well SC is not even a game, it is a barrel of lies and bugs.
But FD really messed things up when they didn't add some guides, like NPCs chatting about places to see, or revealing stations with pre-engineered gear, rumors about sights to see... instead of useless chat they do now.
Or even better, a bartender like the one in old Pirates! game. Build reputation and then it would spawn high-risk high-reward missions, or task them to find missions with specific materials you need.
And more personal missions like some rich family wants you to find their kidnapped member, a chain of missions as you hunt them across the bubble.
I think this would be a great way to help the players, be very immersive, and it would reduce the need for 3rd party tools.
@@vcc_pdr Mission arcs based on your choice of profession would really help learn these skill sets and gain knowledge, or at least frame the guides.
I used to love ELite dangerous . Till they took it away from console players . That blew it for me no point in playing anymore .

I remember watching people playing elite on PC and after it was announced for console I can't think of any other game reveal that got me that excited to this very day. I remember when horizon was a second job because of "personal narrative" got my corvette and Fer de lance decked with the best rolls from the engineers then later frontier stabbed me in the back when they dropped console from odyssey. I will never forgive them ever EVER!

I've got near 2k hours in game, but have no problem grinding a few minutes or even an hour or so in real life to buy stuff that can save me hours doing things less fun in game. Time management and helps the game we love.
