I started making this cockpit for Elite Dangerous in December 2022. There will be more videos of how I did it. I hope you like it ❤️ cougardisplay.site/ @elitedangerousitalia748 groups/elite...
Wow! That looks absolutely incredible! What I'd love to see is a video (or series of videos) like this where you talk people through the cockpit you have there. What all the components do, the hardware involved, how you built it, the difficulties involved, etc etc. Could also do with somehow boosting the game audio (or mixing in-game sound post filming). I guess that's a big ask (and perhaps you're not an English speaker?). Either way, amazing setup commander, I'm going to mention this video on Lave Radio tonight.
Thank you!!! Unfortunately I don't speak English well. I'm preparing a series of more detailed videos on how I designed it. It's been a long job and I still have to finish. I need to add 2 new panels on top to cover the wood, close the outside of the cockpit and motorize the joystick and throttle. I made a video on the first part of how I did it (you can see the video on my TH-cam page). I will make a video on the various electrical connections and Arduino programming. o7!!!
Thanks! It's a bit of a mess with over 500 Elite Dangerous videos in there now, I should probably re-think my playlists and try to organise it all a bit better. Susbscribed to you too as I'm definitely interested in seeing more about your rig there and how it all works.
@@espositocarloantonio5705 That makes two of us... Had it for 2 weeks after i "upgraded" from a Thrustmaster Hotas One. I tried Virpil on a friend and i just fell in love. Pricey, but its worth every penny. I upgraded mine abt a year ago. Never regretted !!!
@@espositocarloantonio5705 Your set up alone would warrant a major recoding of ED to have that implemented. (also, I want it for my 7 inch 4th display)

That looks awesome. Do you have all the buttons mapped to something? It looks like you might have more than elite requires. Did you make the button panels yourself or did you order them from somewhere?
@@pythontest512 Many thanks!!! Yes, all buttons are mapped. They are connected to 3 BBI-32 USB encoders. Some are controlled by 4 Arduino Megas. I made all the panels myself. You can see the video on my page. Later, I'll make a video on how I made the connections
Elite drops most of this in a bunch of JSON files on the disk from where the data can be consumed by any companion app. Plenty exist. Rolling with my own homebrew one but this one is very nice if you hav Cougar Displays anyway.
Mio dio, bellissimo! 🤔
Esposito Carlo Antonio, you are, beyond a reasonable doubt, absolutely and certifiably insane ... and I love you for that! What a fantastic rig. It is incredible how dedicated some Elite Dangerous fans are. I started with ED on a PS4, saw a video about ED on VR and then built a powerful gaming PC from scratch, so I could play it with a HOTAS and the first Oculus Rift. I didn't have the time to play ED for the last 3 years and just got back into it. Upgraded to an RTX 4070 Super, bought a HP Reverb G2, cranked up all VR settings to High and what can I say ...the game looks so detailed and clear in VR, there is just nothing else out there that compares. The HP VR headset has 2 x 4K resolution for each eye and so there is no screen door effect at all! If you haven't tried it, I dare you, even if you have built the most amazing cockpit. You can pick up the HP reverb for under EUR200 on eBay and it will add another dimension to the game. Anyways, hope to meet you out there in the black of space. Look out for Pete "Maverick" Mitchell (hope that some of you get the pop culture reference😉). Fly dangerous ...o7
Are you not a little worried about the discontinuation of the reverb g2 and MS gutting the WMR support? I have been looking at VR but i was a bit conflicted about getting the reverb g2 for that reason. Though i only use windows 10 for the games or peripherals that do not work or not work properly in linux, i would not be surprised if the headset becomes unusable if you are required to upgrade to windows 11 at some point for whatever reason. I thought the Pico 4 would possibly be a reasonable alternative as it does not rely on WMR to work.
@@pythontest512 I am on Windows 11. I use version 23H2 which has support for Windows VR/Mixed Reality. This version will be supported until Nov 11, 2025, according to Microsoft. That's another 1 1/2 years of VR fun😉 Technically Steam could include the WMR (Windows Mixed Reality) launcher as an app and thus continuing support for WMR on the Windows platform. Also, Microsoft announced the drop of WMR before the Apple Vision Pro dropped. If Apple does well and they come up with a cheaper alternative to the Apple VP, then I believe Microsoft has to continue support, just to stay relevant for the market. We shall see. However, I bought my Reverb G2 a few months back for just under Euro 200.- and since I play ED almost every day, to me it is a small investment, considering the sheer numbers of playtime hours I will get out of the VR headset. If you already have a higher end Nvidia GPU (2080ti, 3080, 4070 or higher, then your system should be fine to run the Reverb G2. Keep in mind that your system has to render ~8K 90FPS resolution for the headset, plus whatever resolution and framerate of the monitor(s) you use! Anyways, I hope this answers your question? Back to ED😁😁😁
