    Just a tip, maybe when you show the examples of players, do a split screen of you talking and then players doing it side be side. It allows for more continuity and viewer attention

      Thanks for the feedback.
      I have used that method in the past, however, I feel that when you talk over the slow motion clips, it almost takes away the students focus on what is being shown. Talking and then showing seems like the person can really zone in on the teaching point.
      What do other people think? Any feedback would be great, we want to bring you the best possible lessons

    Love than you included the split step as part of the stroke. Most coaches teach them separately, but it should be considered part of the shot. Also really like the tip about shadowing by the net... think I'll go try that now :-)

    As always, another great video! I way I try to teach my players not to force the lag is to trigger the motion with your shoulder and just let your arm and wrist follow. it happens that when you start to think about the lag itself, you tend to stiffen and lose power.

    Awesome content guys, always so spot on with the explanation - easy to understand why, but not so technical that it's difficult to implement! I'd love to see a video with some suggestions/ drills for not falling off heavy shots/ adjusting to clay courts. I moved from Australia to Europe and am now playing on clay for the first time - I find myself frequently surprised by the steepness of the bounce and often struggle to adjust my positioning and game style to the surface.

    • @TopTennisTrainingOfficial
      @TopTennisTrainingOfficial  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Getting use to the clay is always a challenge but my main tips would be:
      1. Take a step back and give yourself time to adjust to the bounces
      2. Be more intense with your movement, really focus on staying light on your feet until it's time to load up
      3. Start working on upper body strength to get stronger at dealing with chest or head height balls

    The net trick is neat... and safer. I usually place myself behind and use my own racket to establish the limits of when it's "too far back". I've been in this business for so long and, as I have stated another time, it's refreshing to keep coming here and find new ideas to complement my coaching. Keep up the good work. Oh, and before you ask me why I would like to see next and since my requests would be too specific, my only suggestion is to keep working in the direction you do. You seem to be faring well :D

      @@TopTennisTrainingOfficial We have a very small tennis school 20 km away from Barcelona. Club level students with a few ok players and occasionally a player that stands out. On this rare cases we are happy to let him go to wherever he wants, so he may continue growing beyond what our limited resources can. We still try to keep up very high standards in quality training, we don't want the parents to feel like we are some place to leave the kids for a while and if they happen to play tennis the better. We have around 60-70 people but we really put our heart into them (and many many extra hours). That's why I love watching you guys putting some new ideas into the mix, so we can keep it fresh!

      Top Tennis Training - Pro Tennis Lessons Hi Simon. I’ve only just discovered your TH-cam channel, so you’ve probably covered it. I am new to tennis but as well as trying to hit topspin on the forehand (as opposed to hitting it sky high), I would also like to practice the proper technique for getting my body in the right position quicker. Presumably, a drill is required to move my feet. Best wishes

    • @TopTennisTrainingOfficial
      @TopTennisTrainingOfficial  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You have a mixture, some players catch the racket, others don't.
      Even with someone like Federer, he often catches his racket in training, then in matches he'll catch it sometimes and sometimes he won't.
      It all depends on the finish the player is using, high over the shoulder finish vs across the chest finish vs high to low finish vs over the head finish etc

    I like the video but it’s a really wristy swing for a powerful player or younger player. For those of us who are older or who have arm/wrist issues it seems like a longer WTA style backswing could be helpful to generate more racquet head speed and not be dependant on wrist lag. Could you maybe do a video of modifying the ATP style swing for older players? Thx

      Yes, the more you practice the stroke and make the unit turn, power position and lag phase more of a habit, it will start to gel together and become one whole stroke.

      It depends on the surface.
      I done a study on this a few years ago at Wimbledon and the stats were roughly:
      Open stance - 30%
      Semi open - 15%
      Neutral - 25%
      On the run - 30%

    • @TopTennisTrainingOfficial
      @TopTennisTrainingOfficial  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the ATP style works better, stick with it for sure.
      Kyrgios' forehand is not easy to hit, requires great timing and a very loose swing.
      The ATP forehand would suit the vast majority of players IMO

      I think you should focus on building good fundamentals and making sure you use your legs as much as you can to gain some extra inches for the contact. I'd also work on building great spin serves, the kick and the slice.

  • @ReidVV
    @ReidVV 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    You don't really address the biggest forehand problem for the average player -- timing. Basically, it goes back the the old bounce-hit. Unit turn coil, power position completion on or slightly before the bounce allows proper timing and proper contact point out front with the dominant shoulder ahead of the other shoulder. Without this timing key, the rest is lost.

    • @TopTennisTrainingOfficial
      @TopTennisTrainingOfficial  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This video isn't about timing, it's about building an ATP style of forehand.

Your lessons are great and no, I'm not part of another channel (that was kind of funny). You guys are one of the best teaching channels on TH-cam, probably top 5, and I'm grateful for what you put out there 100% free. I've learned plenty from your channel and thanks. @@ReidVV I've heard bounce-hit timing should be the bounce on the opponent's racquet, not the ground, because ground bounce timing can vary greatly.

    • @ReidVV
      @ReidVV 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@transklutz No, it's the bounce on the ground. It refers to when you should have your unit turn completed and are ready to swing forward to the ball for a forehand or a backhand. The trick is in the timing, so the swing is not segmented by a pause after completion of the unit turn, but rather it should be a position passed through as part of the entire swing "loop" in one continuous motion. The idea is to have the racquet back, unit turn complete, and the power position established just before, or just on the bounce, so the forward portion swing can meet the ball in front of the body and not late. A good trick is to actually say "bounce" while practicing when the ball bounces off the ground and to say "hit" as you strike the ball. In a match of course, you can remind yourself to do this mentally, not spoken out loud. Try it and see, both in practice and in a match. See how many times you forget to do it a match and compare the shot results to when you do remember to use bounce-hit. What you may have heard is using bounce-hit when your opponent strikes the ball as a method of ball concentration and perhaps split step timing. Thinking bounce-hit when the ball is on your opponent's side of the court increases your ball focus and using it to time your own split step on your opponent's "hit" is also helpful to preparation for your own movement to the incoming ball.
