    Hi Simon, I'm a high-level player and I have struggled with my forehand for years. In all of the forehand videos I have watched on the Internet, yours are the best. I have significantly improved my forehand lately applying some basics you're teaching. I find your lessons to be relevant, interesting and technically very sound. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Keep it up.

      @@TopTennisTrainingOfficial Hello Simon- I know you have a bunch of comments every day on your channel so thank you for responding. I admit I have not watched all your content yet but I am working my way through it. Question for you - Let's assume I can physically do what you suggest I do in this video (which I can). I am 52 years old and mostly in shape. I "think" if I do everything you suggest in this video that I still can't hit as hard as a 35 year old due to the lack of power my body can physically generate. Do you have fitness training content that will talk help me improve racket head speed off the court? Thanks

  • @Yoshi-nj7lq

  • @e.j.f8349
    @e.j.f8349 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    A really informative lesson - thanks.
    Step three was particularly helpful regarding how to generate racquet head speed for power. Too often I would be too tightly coiled to generate power as I felt this helped me have better control. However, as you point out practice with doing the circular loop will solve this problem.
    P.S. If you get a chance please put paragraph breaks between the steps on the written instructions.

    Technique changes every ten years in tennis. Nadal and Federer have lowered their racquet heads on the forehand over the last 7/8 years. They now have their hands waist level compared to almost shoulder height years ago. Great tip on hitting the ball with the butt cap and keeping the arm/hand loose.

    Hip rotation uses distinct specialized muscles (I've learned recently) and I'm reading that they play a distinct and important part in the load / unload process. Could you try to include this please?
    i.e. Abdominal rotation, hip rotation and leg drive (and rotation?) are all distinct but related components and need to be treated separately.
    I note you have improved on the same subject video of 3 years ago. Great to see such a commitment.

    Hey Simon, I'd like to ask you whose forehand do you like the most?
    I like how Federer makes it look so easy and effortless, but otherwise I really like forehand of Stan...
    It looks so intensive😮😮

    • @TopTennisTrainingOfficial
      @TopTennisTrainingOfficial  5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I like watching Federer's forehand in action, it's so relaxed and fluid, we can only strive to be as loose as him.
      As far as coaching, I too like Wawrinka's forehand, very early preparation, gets the racket into the power position early and has the racket head above the grip. I often use Stan's forehand as a model for my students to see, except I tend to train players to keep their racket more on the right side of their body (4-5 o'clock) whereas Stan tends to go back to 6 o'clock.
      In terms of all time, I loved watching Fernando Gonzalez's forehand.
      I watched him playing Igor Andreev (another cannon forehand) in a five-set battle, courtside at Wimbledon. Forehand frenzy.
      Great power but a bit too big on the swing.

      Hi Steven
      3/5 balls are out as in long?
      If you're hitting long, apply more topspin.
      If you're hitting wide, apply more topspin and aim more into the middle of the court.
      If you're hitting into the net, lift the ball and give yourself good net clearance.

    What racquet would you recommend for an intermediate player? I feel as though I'm past being a beginner and can serve and maintain rallies, but I feel like I have to work harder with my racquet and guide the ball a lot rather than being able to fully relax and swing with confidence. Your videos have helped me progress but I know a better racquet is now needed to progress more. I currently have a Head Radical 27 racquet. Thanks for your advice.

    • @TopTennisTrainingOfficial
      @TopTennisTrainingOfficial  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would test out a bunch of different rackets and see which style suits your game the most.
      That's the only way of truly knowing if the racket is for you

      @@TopTennisTrainingOfficial but how i can test them out if I'm in a shop? I did an online search and Babolat Drive 2018 came out no1 but it's 140 pounds. It's difficult. There seems to be a big gap between the pricing for beginners racquets and anything more serious after that.

    Do you shift your weight a bit forward as you swing the racquet to meet the ball?
    The swing is initiated by rotating the hips?

    • @tennisnerd9008
      @tennisnerd9008 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think there is a gradual weight shift forward before you decide to rotate your hips and shoulders. Ideally you will want to initate the hip rotation before the shoulders so they can add to kinetic chain. I find it easier though to time the balls by actively engaging the shoulder rotation instead of relying solely on the hips to cause the racket to swing through

    • @gcs7817
      @gcs7817 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      tennis nerd
      I’m thinking the weight shift need only be one inch forward. One inch of 150-200 lbs of mass on a 2oz ball= much Force

    • @TopTennisTrainingOfficial
      @TopTennisTrainingOfficial  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You want to store the energy and weight on the back leg until you start the forward phase of the swing. I like to try to really throw my body into the shot and see how much distance I can cover going forwards when I use the neutral stance (time permitting of course)
      Thanks for watching.
