Wow, I consider it such a great compliment receiving a comment like this - it makes all the hard work worthwhile. Thank you, and thanks for your support 👍 Where are you located? The States, Australia, Europe, somewhere else?
Install brembo 4 pots calipers with the brackets adapter, you can use alfa or fiat or focus rs one's, is very low cost upgrade, just you need to find used calipers, restoring and set them! After need a 0,5 cm spacers👍👍
@@Smilog thanks my friend. I would be interested to know which Alfa 4 pot brembos fit the focus? Are they from the 147 GTA? Also, which bracket adapter you would need?
Good work! Looks smooth. I showed this video to my rusty 1.6l 2003 daily driver and he just gave me that "ain't gonna happen" look... That said, the more I look on your how-to videos, the more I'm tempted to try something..I really like my Focus.
Thanks for saying so my friend, I'm no different to you or anyone else on here, I just love cars and started small - then tried bigger and harder things. It's surprising what can be done in just a garage at home. Have a go, have fun 😉
Great job and upgrade! Shifting smoothness and accuracy is pivotal in a cool daily driver with manual transmission. I've made a rear (hard) brakeline swap on my '02 Focus, after a proper brake bleeding the brake is way more effective. The factory brake lines (iron..) have a tendency to be completely rotten and like to leak brake fluid out of the brake system (air into the brake system..) New CuNi lines work fine.
If you're looking for an easy interior upgrade you could look at replacing your seats. If you want a bit more sporty seats, the ST170 seats are nice. In some markets there was a TDCI Sport trim that came with the same ricaro seats as the ST170 half leather but with the blue cloth replaced with dark grey cloth. Personally I think these seats would look great in the silver focus. Other options would be the full leather ST170 recaro seats, or the full leather (futura trim) seats. Do pay attention when buying the seats as the back rest of the rear seats of a station are different than that of a hatchback. I think (not 100% sure) that all other models have the same rear seat setup.
Thank you mate. I'd love a set of ST170 seats but they are super rare to find over here. I also tried importing a set of leather recaros from the UK, but the shipping cost was crazy (more than 3x the seats)... I'll keep looking though 😉 looks like an interior upgrade would be something popular for this channel.
The shift length is one thing I would like to change on my 2014. I have the MTX75 5 speed as well though I can't say I've noticed a lockout when I've had the boot and surround off. Nice upgrade.👍

The car is in such good condition and your having luck with it as a daily. Other than general maintenance, I’m not sure you could do much else other than appearance interior or exterior. Some window tint, a rear spoiler maybe?
Thank you, I appreciate that. It's been super-reliable (knock on wood), and I'm pretty happy with the way it sits right now. There are plenty of other mods that could be done, but they are BIG, and most of them outspend the actual cost of the car. It's a great daily as is.
Great video, an upgrade that would be worthwhile without ruining its dailyness would be an interior upgrade, maybe an st170 leather seat swap or something like that.
@@Horus_Works Or maybe some mondeo seats or from a later focus/fiesta. Maybe there is even a way to fit som aussie ford stuff. Fords usually are quite easy to mix n match parts between models and generations.

Cool video dude. Question regarding reverse though. What fail safes are there, to prevent inadvertently going into reverse, if you ‘forget’ you don’t have 6th gear? Is the billet collar only there for aesthetics or does it actually do a job? I’m amazed that Steeda didn’t supply fitting instructions too. Your channel is very helpful too. A worthy find from here in the UK.
Hey Wayne, thanks for commenting mate. Steeda does supply instructions, they're just a bit universal because these shifters can go into a couple of Focuses. The lift ring on the factory shifter lifts a notch on the base of the shifter for reverse, but this is removed with the Steeda shifter. I was worried about going into reverse too, but reverse locks out at the trans side somewhere once you're moving, so no risk at all of going into reverse. Have been using this for a while now and have never gone into reverse. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching 😊
Yes bud, good stuff. I have a request for a job. I’ve recently had issues with my core/Freeze plug, the bugger has popped a hole and filling up my sparky well. Fancy a jobbie?
Another cheap upgrade for any car is to add some sound deadening. Even if you only add it to the back(in the wheelarch area) will massively cut down on road noise, which makes the engine note more noticable.
Will this resolve the massive side-to-side play I have when in gear? I heard there were some bushing that I might have to replace. Not sure if I can access from this location.
Hey Jake, this won't necessarily fix the side to side play no, it would just make it less obvious (shorter throw). The bushings in this setup aren't necessarily typical rubber bushings, more like plastic inserts that work with the black plastic gaiter housing itself (the black piece of plastic I'm holding at 9:18 in this video). The mechanism can be accessed easily by lifting out your gear shift leather boot, and taking a few screws out as seen it this video. Once it's all out you will see how it all works and what bushings are in play. Should be a fun little Sunday exploration project, and once you get the bits together I doubt it will take much to fix the play in your gear selector. Have fun man, and much appreciate you watching.
@@Horus_Works really appreciate the replies and advice. Please keep providing us your projects on the Focus! Just replaced my fuel pump and fuel tank pressure sensor by cutting holes under the rear seat. Good times. :-)
Very nice! I have the same Focus as you, MK1 Zetec 1.6. Looking forward to keep tuning it and make it as cool as yours! Also, one question: Have you ever experienced any "choking" when driving uphill on any gear? For me it happens with every single one 1-5), on a "medium" speed, even though the RPM is at 1.600/2.000/2.500. Obviously when we go uphill, and with not that much speed, we need to shift one or even two gears, but it always happens when I shift from one to another, and need that fast acceleration to shift again, and it feels like the engine bumps up/chokes when trying to accelerate. Maybe something with the spark plugs (which were changed recently and did not result) or even a clogged up gas pump/catalyst. Well, I'll head up to the mechanic next month, but it's always good to hear something for other Focus owner! Thanks a lot and keep up the good work! Cheers!
Hello Gustavo, thanks for supporting me, I appreciate it 👍 I think if my car was choking on acceleration, I would definitely have a look at fuel supply (fuel filter, injectors) because when you accelerate, what happens is that the car is trying to send more fuel. If it can't send more fuel, so the throttle opens more but no more fuel, the car will choke (not enough fuel). Also, have a look to see if you have any vacuum leaks (air leaks) around the intake or Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor. Usually the MAF sensor can compensate for tiny leaks, but when you accelerate maybe it's too big an air leak for it to handle. That where I would start 1) fuel 2) vacuum leaks. I hope this helps you, best of luck with finding the problem, and appreciate you watching 😀
I'm sorry but your transmission will be different to mine, and this shifter will not fit your car. But try to find a short throw shifter for your transmission, and you should get similar results 👍
@raghu1451 No problem mate. I've never owned your car so I don't, but try the usual suspects in the US and UK - FSWerks, Steeda, PumaSpeed, Burton Power, there's lots of tuning shops for the Focus, you will just need to do a bit of hunting. Best of luck and thanks for your support 👍
Hi, maybe a dumb question but would it be possible to cut the original shifter and just make new threads for the shift nob? Or would the results be different? I’m new to this 😅
Yes you are 😁 no the new shifter does more to the other end of the ball pivot. To be honest it would be more work to do what you wrote than to just change it out. Very easy to do, and nothing to cut and rethread.
Yeah I think the 6 speeds are slightly different, although if I were you, I'd have a look at the instructions on Steeda's website? They do mention cars with no lockout function (that may be your gearbox...) In any case they have a few shifters to chose from.
@@Horus_Works Oh, you can get a shortshifter for the Getrag gearbox in the ST170. I was more envious of the MTX75 as it's a much better gearbox. Better ratios and single mass flywheel. You can install them into the ST170 and many do.
@@LincolnRobinson I see, now I get it sir. It is a very good box I must admit. I have a friend with a Mini Cooper S and BMW used the same boxes in those cars. He's running 350hp with no problems. But he did remove the factory dual mass flywheel and installed a single mass Valeo unit.
@@Horus_Works Yeah, the gearbox is solid, but the ratios are terrible in the ST170. You can throw the same LSD in it as the Mini. Single mass flywheel will probably address most of the ratio problem... maybe... probably.
