Your video is so true. The vast majority of uploads in YT concerning freelance copywriting sell only the benefits and not the detriments.
Getting paid can be a big problem for freelance work. You might not get paid at all and if you get half up front, they sometimes can burn you and not pay the other half.
Many TH-cam videos romanticize freelance work because they are selling you a dream of being your own boss, working on a beach, and lots of money. Why do they do this? Because they are usually selling a course on copywriting that’s not cheap.
People cannot simply hang a website with a portfolio and think “Field of Dreams” we build it and they will come. Prospecting for clients is tough and requires cold emails at a minimum and like 25 a week for weeks before landing work.

    Love the video Jackie!
I completely agree with you on your points, especially the point about referrals. Nobody talks about the discomfort when turning down referred clients. I've been dealing with that and it's extremely, extremely uncomfortable.
Thanks for keeping it real, as always!

Thank you for the video. I paid for a very expensive copywriting course earlier this year, convinced I would be a freelance copywriter. It was all these factors you mention (that I didn't fully consider) which derailed that plan. I did learn a lot, however. I'm currently working in an unrelated temp job and planning to apply to copy/marketing jobs within a big company once I get some work in my portfolio.

Hi Jackie I love how you are real with us and don't glorify the freelance career, great content

Great video. I'm very interested in getting into copywriting, however I'm concerned about the AI issue. If you're already an established writer and have a nice portfolio to show your work, you'll likely be fine. However, what about new writers just entering the market? If I'm looking to gain experience and I'm willing to work for cheap (or even free), why would a client choose me over an AI program for the same price? I have a feeling that once AI takes off, it's going to be harder to gain entry into the field, but I could be wrong.

Are there slow months because are drops in sales periodically so the compensation will dry up occasionally as a result?
