- Hello and welcome to the Granny Square Along! We are starting today!
Come along and have some fun with me this summer celebrating the humble and yet beautiful Granny Square three different ways:)
All summer I'll be adding to my crochet tutorials that I have already done and I'll be showing you different ways to use your granny squares...lots of fun projects!
I'm also hosting a quilt along using my second quilt book called
"Great Granny Squared" where you can make the quilt on the cover or any project in the book...I happen to be making a scrappy granny quilt using the 6" blocks in the book.
And last but not least I have a freebie cross stitch for you that I designed for a summer of Granny Square stitchy fun:)

I learned to crochet when I was around 11 - my aunt taught me. We always counted stitches on something that was already crocheted. She couldn’t read patterns, so would visually copy things. Miss my aunt Magdalene. ❤️
The way I choose my Lori holt yarn I put it all in a bag I close my eyes and I get one out and they always come out different and always so beautiful because they all match

I am planning to do the crochet and cross stitch. I love this so much. I just received my yarn today and I am planning on doing my granny crochet squares in fall colors. Then do more summer colors when fat quarter shop gets more of your yarn in. Thank you for your amazing talents!

I was intrigued by the yarn ball winder you used! I found one online and had so much fun winding balls that I did 40 balls for my granny square afghan! They are all so pretty and uniform and entertained me making them. Thanks for sharing your love of crafting and inspiration with us all!
Love the granny challenges! I’m going to be using beachy colors to crochet a granny square blanket. I’ll also be using patriotic colors to cross stitch a row of squares for framing and making some small pillows. Thanks for all the inspiration 🐝♥️

So excited about this. I learned knit as a child but have never been able to learn to crochet. I have all of the supplies and made the bags. I have watched your videos, but I think the chart will be the key for me.
I have started the afghan using your chunky thread. I have 6 rows done already and am loving it. I also plan on doing the cross stitch. I want to do the sew along also but might have to wait until the fall because my daughter and two grandchildren who reside overseas are coming to visit for 6 weeks. I love the GGS quilt square! I've made 22 blocks using my scraps to make donation quilts but I love them so much I don't want to give them up! So I'm doing this challenge, for me, using LH and similar fabrics. For inspiration I use just value (dark, light, dark, light) or my color wheel. My GGS Christmas pillow will be in my local quilt show this week.

I plan on doing the cross stitch and quilt Great Granny Square along. On their Flosstube Jeanette mentioned about stitching on 10 count aida and making it into a pillow. I may try to do that along with a small stitch on 14 or 16 count aida. This is going to be fun! Thanks for all your inspiration. You are so creative and talented.

I’ve been crocheting my squares and I have the Great Granny Square book. I’ve cut all my 2 1/2” squares and made June 3rd block. I printed Kimberly’s chart for each week and am matching colors. But not necessarily the fabrics. I have so much of your series of fabrics, that I am just using what I have.

I've been making the GGS 12" blocks... before I knew a SAL was coming. When I saw your book, I knew I had to make it! Such a fun block!
I have about 15 made and love them. Slow going now because I'm watching my new granddaughter, full time....but I'll keep working at them! Love them all! Thank you, Lori! ❤️
I will definitely be doing the quilt along. I got all my fabrics just need to get them cut and start sewing. I will probably do a few granny square crochet too. I downloaded the cross stitch but will have to see how far I get!

I just finished my first ever granny square today, started on a second one, my first go at crochet. Just using 'practice' cotton yarn while I wait for my chunky cotton colours to come in the post. I will see how many squares I can make before deciding how to put them together, and whether to make one bigger project or a few small ones. 🪡 Thanks for the inspiration. I've always had it in mind to learn crochet 'one day' today is as good as any other day 🌻
Hi Lori! Thank you for these fun challenges! I will be working on my Chunky Thread Granny Squares - ooooohhh I love, love, love this sweet and soft yarn! I think I will try to make a Great Granny Square quilted table runner. I bought the pattern ages ago when I first began to quilt and I made a table runner then. It was such a challenge for me then, but I think I have improved and it will be easier this time. I love the bags so much! I think I will try to make a set of those - and all of this in my spare time from working in my yard. I can't seem to drag myself inside these days. Maybe sometime you could show us your pretty rose garden again? I would love that. Thank you for everything. You are such a sweetie! Patti

So, I will definitely be crocheting granny squares, and I plan to do the cross stitch. I also hope to try some pieced 6 inch great granny squares. I have tried the 12 inch and really enjoyed them. You give so much of your time to bring us videos, tutorials on your blog, beautiful fabrics, quilt patterns and cross stitch patterns and yarn! I just want you to know that I greatly appreciate it. And thank you to your daughter for filming she does a great job! Thank you also for the inspiration on how to choose colors. I love the idea of taking the crocheted granny squares and using them for fabric color choices for the pieced blocks.
I love granny squares!!! I have not dove into your chucky thread yet as I am in love with your fabric!! I am working on the Chicken Salad and then came the Great Granny Squared SAL!! waiting for fabric to get here to start. Thinking I need a little yarn too.
I don’t have plans right now to make any of them ( too many other projects in the works), but will watch and. encourage.
I do want to make both the crochet and quilted version in the future.

I already have the book n hope I get time to make quilt squares. I have a bunch of blocks my mother made n didn’t know how to put them together. You videos will be great to finish this 80s project.

Love all of the different ideas! I have the Prim AuriFloss so I am excited to start making the squares. I have tried twice to learn to crochet so I will watch your video and try again LOL My Grandmother taught me once, gave me a handmade case with hooks in it and I never really kept up with it. She passed away years ago so I need to make a effort to learn it again.
I’m going to work on quilting the great granny quilts and pillows. Working on my cutting so I can get started this week. Grabbed colors I already have in my “stash”😁

I'm doing two, quilt and cross stitch. I've started the cross stitch. I love both. I'd do crochet but I have an allergy to most yarns. So I don't do any. Love you afghan.

I've heard your name a bunch but haven't taken the time to check you out and MAN OH MAN was I ever missing out. This video is so amazingly done. It almost feels like you're talking to me. I cross stitch, crochet and sew in that order. Thank you so much for giving us the time and care to ensure we are comfortable with our understanding. I plan to do some of this. I am a very beginner sewist so I don't know if I can do the quilt but I will do the cross stitch and crochet for sure. Again. Thanks so much. ❤

I’m determined to learn the crochet Granny Square, I will try to do the cross stitch. I think just four squares would be very cute framed to put in my sewing room. I would love to do the quilt as well, but I’m still thinking about that one since I have so much on my plate already. Knowing me I will end up doing the quilt because after all it is a Lori project. 🤣
