- ☀️ WELCOME! ☀️ I EMPTIED MY SCRAP BIN! ♻️ With no set design plan in place, I simply started sewing scraps together: first by 2s, then by 4s, and continuing. I ended up with a BOLT of scrap fabric ready to be used in future projects! ✂️ The finished bolt is 24 feet long, and the average width is 16 inches. (7.31 meters by about 40 centimeters). Total project time 19 hours, 40 minutes (of which round one along took 9 hours).
I hope you use this idea to have some FUN with your scraps!

I sew my scraps together each MONTH. I can't stand to go longer than a month. It makes me not want to go into my sewing room if I have stuff looking at me in a pile. LoL. After i sew it monthly I cut it into 12 inch squares. I have made several lap throws for the elderly in my church. I leave them on the pews and if they wish to they can take them home. If not after a month or so of cold weather I bring them home to wash. Year round I leave about 10 of them at church. The congregation knows where they are if not on a pew. I have made many for a local nursing facility as well. It's my self mission I will continue as God allows me to sew.
Wow that is so beautiful to hear! I love this! ☀️❤️✂️ I wish I didn't procrastinate, but I do, so I end up with a bunch at one time most of the time!
I love this idea for church services and gifting! Thank you for loving on people!
You are a true blessing.🙏🏻
That is so sweet!!! ❤
That's beautiful, thank you for sharing! 🥰
Oh my....you are making me cry and cry....a young lady gave me a box of tiny scraps and said pick two and sew....add another and sew....I MADE A QUEEN SIZE RAG A SCRAP QUILT....I WAS SUPER PROUD....then she said....cut that into ten inch square!!!! I WAS ANGRY I LOVE MY MASTERPIECE...so I ended up with two quilts...one with ten inch squares with beautiful two inch framing AND MY MOST PRIZED QUILT THE ONE THAT WAS JUST SCRAPS SEWN TOGETHER....thank you for your detail video....although I had tears of great memories learning how to make my VERY FIRST QUILT AS A GROWN ADULT...so today I make messy quilts and eat chocolates AND EVERYTHING IS SWEET AND PERFECT
What a treasure! ❤️ I am so happy you were able to watch this video! ☀️.
I love the continuous builds much more over the conglomeration of square blocks!
It is my plan for my crazy quilt-no blocks!
@@SledDog5678 it does create more scraps when this is the method. But, we all have to corral our mess the best way we can. I would love to see your no square crazy quilt, cuz that should look awesome.
Time lapses are so satisfying🥰. Your work is lovely.
Such a perfect way to deal with scraps, so satisfying. I just need to start, you have given me such a boost. Thank you 😊
Just finished using all my scraps, took all winter. Made 8 inch squares with black edges. Finished looked like stain glass!
That sounds amazing! Thanks for watching my video! ❤️☀️✂️
I was going to do this and started to with my scraps. I realized I was finding no joy or satisfaction in doing so. I decided to donate my scraps to the local senior center since they make quilts for children in the hospital. I feel good that they are put to use for something positive not wasted and thats the perfect usefulness for my scraps. The only scraps I keep are strips now. Keep having fun , otherwise what's the point.
Hi Ivie!! ☀️. You are exactly right! Life is so short, and we shouldn’t spend any of our limited time making ourselves miserable! I’m glad you found a good cause to donate to.✂️
I sew my scrap together and cut them into 12x12 squares and use them in my backings for my scrappy quilts and bags.
Oh how fun! Scraps are just the best! ☀️
I grew up in TN and this would be called a "crazy quilt". It's my favorite kind of quilt!!! Thanks for detailing your process!
You’re very welcome! ☀️💕
8 yards of scrap fabric???? What a complete treasure! Can't wait to see what you do with it! I'm going to start sewing my scraps together on each and every Sunday evening.... I have subscribed to keep myself updated on your scrap progress (As well as other things!). I just found you--so glad!
Hi Lynda! So happy you have joined us here! ☀️☀️☀️. I love love LOVE scrappy projects! But I do tend to procrastinate. 🤣✂️ -
Don't we all!!!! I am getting better, tho'!
You threw out alot of little scraps, but still ended up with an enormous piece of fabric. How great.
It’s wild!! ‼️. I saved some of the bigger cut offs. I only pitched the ones I didn’t think could be sewed to something else. 💕☀️✂️
Could you use the small scraps to put inside a pillow as stuffing? Make a pillow form and fill it up.😊
There’s a lot that can be done with tiny bits of fabric, down to threads.
@@user-yg9pe6fz3rYes! We used to do that in 1" channels so it'd be washable n not lumpy😂
When I have a project that is busy like this, I like to over dye it! The fabrics dye differently, but blend well.
That's a great idea!
What an excellent idea! What dyes do you usually use?
Please explain. I am new to this
@@janim1249 essentally theyre using fabric dye on the finished sheet of fabric. since its made of a variety of fabrics, they wont necessarily dye to the same shade, but will end up within the same types of colours, thus creating a more uniform sheet of scrap fabric
I sewed my scraps and crumbs together into 4 1/2" squares (found this smaller size to be quite handy). Then I sewed them together into curtains - WOW are they ever BRIGHT!
Oh that is pretty AWESOME!!! ☀️☀️ The brighter the better IMO!
I just want to make a beautiful maxi skirt with this fabric……it would be super gorgeous…. I would wear it everywhere!!!! Maxi skirt, two denim patch pockets in the front….yessss I see it. Awesome work!!!
I had a skirt in high school that was made to look scrappy and it was my favorite. Had just enough twirl to be so so comfy. You should make it!
If you can dream it, you can make it happen! I love that idea🤩
What a great idea!
Franken-fabric! I love it. Great idea. Thanks for sharing.
You're so welcome! ☀️
My scraps I keep are color coded. But I think a mini bolt of them in the same color way would be awesome!
That would be cool! ☀️✂️
I sort my scraps into colour families and make log cabins and then quilts out of them. I didn’t know that anyone else did this. Thankyou. Lovely music 💐
Thanks so much! ☀️
Thank you for doing this for us! I have made some crumb quilts and it's an amazing way to use up the smallest of pieces. Anything bigger than 1 inch by 1 inch gets used up. I recently made 41 pillows for the homeless (approx. 9 inches by 15-18 inches) with straps (often from pant legs). The stuffing I used was leftover batting, pillow stuffing, fabric that I couldn't use, cut up old socks, even the smallest pieces of thread - nothing to the landfill! It was satisfying - and very well received! I'm looking forward to getting back to my scraps; thanks for the encouragement!
You’re welcome!! I loved hearing about your project! ☀️
Instead of using a wrapping paper roll (it has acids in it that can damage the material if it takes years to sew the roll) I went down to the dollar store and bought pool noodles to wrap mine around. They can be used over and over. I get the wider ones and it cuts down in wrinkling of the scraps.
I love the way you did this video. And your music was wonderful and really relaxing!
Thanks so much for the compliment! I made a different bolt last year and used it all up. ☀️. I've had others comment about pool noodles too! Great idea!
i made a headboard for my bed using this method, it looks great!
Wow I bet it is beautiful! ❤️☀️☀️
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️🥰. What more can I say. I’m heading to my sewing room NOW. Thank you so much….
Ha! You made me laugh! Love it! Have SEW MUCH FUN! ☀️🌸🧵✂️
Thank you for the wonderful video. The music was perfect too. Very enjoyable. I make from scaps crazy quilt squares 15cmx15cm, which relaxes my mind as I don't have to think of any order but what my eyes and soul want 😊. I have already made a single bed quilt for my daughter, a cushion (which I filled with all the tiny leftovers, just like my grandma did 😊) and I'm in the process of making more squares.
Love your idea ❤
I am so glad you watched the video! Scraps are just beautiful! ☀️
I just love this technique! ❤ When you get to that little pile of waste when you trim your bulk and shreds; you can save those and use them to stuff pet bedS. I save all of mine for that purpose. Thanks for the excellent video.
You’re welcome! I’m glad you are making pet beds! 😻
WOW, that's a lot of sewing! I think what I will do is work on my scrap pile by taking one handful out of my bag every day or every time I sew and sewing them together. IDK. Maybe that will work? Thanks for the video and for keeping track of the time. I find that interesting and helpful.
Hello Paula! I'm glad this got you thinking about it! And yes, breaking it down into small handfuls might work well! Maybe I should try that! 🤣♻️☀️☀️☀️
I saw a nice idea somewhere - maybe Karen Brown? - to spend a few minutes at the start of a sewing session with your scraps, as a kind of warm-up. Whatever works for you. 😊 Deb x 🤗
Came for the advice, stayed for the music. Great video. Thank you.
Awesome, thank you! ☀️
Awesome. Never thought to do a bolt. I do my scraps in 10 inch blocks. 6.5 inch blocks and 6.5 x 12.5 rectangles. Then make quilts from those. It is amazing how they add up. Thank you for showing this version. I might try it sometime
Thanks so much for watching! ☀️🧵. I had one 11 inch square block that I didn't put in the bolt! It will be part of an orphan block project ❤️⭐️
I must say I wasn't sure how this was going to turn out... but it's pretty when you got it all together! I'm impressed!
Thanks!
Your brain makes it all work out at the end
This was a fun video to watch. I did a small scale of this project. I used up my scraps from all my mens shirts that I had cut down. There was over 50. I made my yardage 30 inches wide for the main piece and around 26 long. Then I made strips about 6 to 8 inches wide by 36 to 40 inches long. The main body I cut out a deer head and appliquéd to a large piece of material. The strips will be a wide border for a quilt I am making for my husband. It gave me satisfaction knowing I used all my material possible. You are right about the bulk and seams. I made my stitches shorter about 2 and my seam just over 1/4”. The other important part for me was the pressing. I wanted my material flat as possible. I couldn’t do my chain piecing without having my blade saver. It is definitely a game changer when working with scraps.
Thanks so much Connie! ☀️. I think your shirt project sounds so neat! A deer head out of hubby's shirts I bet he will love it! ❤️
Loved seeing you create this 'bolt' of fabric. A quick math conversion - 24' = 288". 1 metre approx 39". so that makes approx 7.31 metres. Well done - looking forward to seeing your future scrappy projects 🤩
Thanks Lesley! Have a great day! ☀️
That was a stitch and save marathon well done
Thank you! ☀️☀️
Thank you. My brain could not comprehend how to do this. I thought I would be cutting pieces for days before sewing. ❤❤ Thank you.
You are so welcome! ☀️
Done this twice now loved it got fabric 18 inches wide by 6 1/2 yards will use it to make items for charity, it’s mindless sewing and good for clearing your mind, but my scrap pile was no way the size of yours. That pile was impressive!
It was some kind of crazy for sure! But I have seen worse! ☀️☀️☀️. All in all, just love working with scraps, and making something cool from the leftovers.
I’m doing it at the moment 18” wide and I have about 3 metres so far. No idea how I will use it. Someone suggested making a quilted jacket. 🤔 I love it when the smaller pieces all come together to make bigger pieces.
@@Deelovesgoldens Hi Dee - Here's an idea! I made a different fabric bolt over a year ago, and this is how I used the very end of it: th-cam.com/video/tZDSpkkoCsU/w-d-xo.html. But the sky is the limit! I thought about making a quilted vest for myself this time around, but not sure yet. ☀☀☀
I admire what you did! It totally inspires me! Thank you so much!
I'm so glad! ☀️
I got so excited when i was scrolling and saw your video! Your bolt is beautiful. I love this idea so much. I was just thinking how if i had saved my scraps over the past 35 years, and did this with them every 3 years or so, the ever-growing bolt would be a beautiful woven tapestry of memories.
There's no time like the present though, so I am going to start doing this with my scraps.
I love the zero waste of this idea. I also thought, like some of the other commenters here, that the trim cuttings could be used as stuffing for 100% zero waste.
Thanks for the inspiration and all the details you included like time invested and how you went about connecting them.
I am glad you enjoyed this! Any scraps that were big enough will get reused in other projects, so no worries! Have a great day! ☀️✂️🧵
This 'task' is what I call sewing meditation! Now this type of "fabric" works well for sewing shopping/tote bags that you can gift your friends. Keep an eye handy for sheets in good shape for inexpensive liner. I have several of these "scrap bags". When I go to the store, I always get comments. Plus, they are a nice reminder of prior projects.
Nice tip! I like to find old vinyl flannel backed tablecloths for grocery bag liners! I too get lots of nice comments on my cute grocery totes! Here's a link to my bags playlist if you like! th-cam.com/play/PLNgJsWBvdLlFDoBSDeScg5ocNAxu0whwV.html
what an amazing idea!!! it will help to get rid of ALL THE Fabric clutter!!! thank you!! :)
I'm so glad it was helpful! ⭐️ You are very welcome! ☀️✂️
This isn’t a terrible pile, it’s an exciting colorful pile of anticipation! Love it. I still would be picking out the bigger pieces. I’m sure if I closed my eyes and shoveled them into that pillowcase, they’d finally be gone. I can only imagine how you’re going to use your new fabric.
Hi Cindy! You made me laugh this morning! ☀️☀️☀️. Thanks so much, and I look forward to using it up too! 🌸
A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. ……!!!
You are quite brilliant!
You have inspired me.
Wow, thank you!☀️💕
WOW what a happy scrappy memory quilt this will make. I really love this. And one foot is 30,48 centimeters, so in all you had seen together almost 7,5 metres of fabric. Well done.
Thanks so much! ☀️
Amazing mosaic cloth ❤
Thank you! 😊
I made a huge tote bag with my scraps 2 yrs ago today im still hand sewing things and charms flowers i find along the way I call it my curly sue tote bag
That’s a super cute idea to add little embellishments to your tote bag! I might steal that idea ha ha ☀️💕
It shows how much one can waste if throwing scraps away. I keep all my scraps and now I know how to use them more efficiently.
So true Sharon! ☀️
It's Art. Bravo Madame
Thanks Marie! ☀️
You've inspired me to tame my scraps. Thank you.
I love working with scraps. Creative and fun
Scraps are FUN! ☀️✂️🧵
Brilliant! Love this idea! I made a 10 yards snippet roll once with my smaller scraps. I was able to get numerous projects out of it- including fabric bowls. ❤ I so want to try your idea out. Thank you so much for sharing!
Thanks so much, Stephanie! ☀️. And you’re very welcome.💕
WOW. Now for me to follow this advice and do similar project. Since I enjoy making crumb squares and use in charity quilts, I was already panning how to use my unique bolt of fabric. Thanks for your video, well done, you
I appreciate your kind comments, Peg! ❤️ THANK YOU! ☀️☀️☀️.
My grandmother was a master quilter and I haven’t been able to bring myself to toss her (massive) bin of scraps…I normally make clothing and don’t use quilting cottons much but this would be an amazing project! I especially like the idea of using the fabric for insulating curtains
I hope this idea was helpful to you! ☀️☀️. It sounds like you've got some ideas to try out! Good luck!
GREAT WORK AND I SHALL TRY THA TECHNIQUES, MANY THANKS.
I’m glad you enjoyed this! ☀️
Thank you so much for posting this! I am not a great sewer. I love little projects using scraps that I was given. I love this idea of sewing them all together to have them ready for future projects. I look forward to new videos on how you will be using this.
Thanks so much Patty! ☀️❤️ I made a "bolt" over a year ago, and here's the video of using the very end of the bolt. It was so satisfying! ✂️ I have made quilts zip bags, clothing and all kinds of things 🧵 from the scrap leftover fabric! th-cam.com/video/tZDSpkkoCsU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=iceszbr4zI22qRga
Lots and lots of tlc work. I have a thing for scraps too! I created a bunch 100+ of 5” squares and 5x7 size. Now I am piecing them together with 10 x2.5 navy strips.. to create a quilt! I should have done what you did! Ha. Next time.. thanks for sharing!
That sounds like it will be gorgeous! Thanks! ☀️💕
I’m so glad to see you sewing your scraps again.
They never end! 🤣
Love this idea!, so many things to make with scrappy fabric,
Thank you for the inspiration to do more with scraps. I save all sizes of scraps and know I will enjoy sorting them in various sizes and stitching them as you have shown.
Hi Alice! ☀️ i’m so glad it was helpful!💕
The video i didn't know i needed. Im in thr process of renovating my sewing room, and reorganising my scraps in order to make quilts for each of my kids and grandkids.
Oh wow! That sounds so awesome, and I'm glad that you saw my video at the right time! I hope you let me know how your kiddo quilts turn out! ❤️❤️❤️
Neat concept! I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have any hair left after that project! I almost didn’t make it through going through my scraps and cutting them into squares and strip sizes I use a lot. But now that it’s done and everything neatly organized I am so happy I stuck with it. It’s amazing all the things you can do with scraps. I recently went to a by donation garage sale. O my goodness I absolutely made out like a bandit there was so much there in fabric I found a box of 21/2 inch squares hundreds of them. I can’t list everything I got but the jewel of the day was a shoebox full of quilt blocks with the pattern and all the fabric needed to finish the quilt for $2. I ended up with 2 trash bags full of fabric and most of it vintage. I was just in heaven with that haul. Your channel is fun!
🌞☀️ thanks so much, Liz! I’m glad you enjoyed the video and the channel. I love sharing a little bit with others. I am so jealous of your garage sale haul. I have found a few neat things at estate sales and garage sales but nothing like you describe! That’s the dream, isn’t it.? 💕
Wow! All I can say is Wow!
Thanks so much Kathy! ☀️
I would love to see the projects you make from the scrap fabric.
Stay tuned! 🎥 ☀️
Well done Annette! That was quite a challenge but you came through it and look what you have to show for it. I can’t wait to see what you make with it x
Thank you so much, Frances! ☀️✂️
Thank you for this video, I'm so inspired. Like you said, I also once started and got discouraged midway and I left it. I'm definitely going back to it.❤️
You got this! ☀️💕 Thanks for watching!
I use mine and other people's scraps to make fabric to make other projects with. I have made bowl cozies, casserole cozies, casserole hotpads, and I plan on making myself some overalls.
That’s great! ☀️👍
How enlightening! I've never considered such an obvious thing to do! Love your channel, talents, & tone of your voice so encouraging & soothing.

BRAVO!!! Good on You.

Awesome! ☀️
Thanks for sharing this wonderful scrap-busting idea!!

Beautiful......i love crumb quilting....love what you have done here. i usually do it for about one yard at time and then cut to what i'm making...(bag or whatever)....
Very cool! ☀️. I procrastinate, so end up with way too much! 🤣
I admire you! I did this the last 2 days and thought I was crazy. But did enough to make a bag with. Could never do that much at a time! Wow!!! Great job!!!
Hi Brenda! ☀️☀️ I have sworn that I will do a small batches of scraps. But I am a total procrastinator, so I never do. I let them build 🆙 until I have so, so, SO many. 😂. When I used up the end of my last bolt, I did make three large grocery totes! th-cam.com/video/tZDSpkkoCsU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=p83dFAIcuXrbVWG0
Well done, thank you for sharing 😊
My pleasure 😊
Awesome can't wait to see some of your projects please share
Thanks so much! I will for sure! ☀️☀️
I admire your patience to put all those pieces together 😮! I don't know if I could 😊.
Thank you Mirea! ✂️ I just love the look, so I keep doing it! The last bolt I made was a year ago, and it was fun using it up. ☀️
My brain has tried to visualize this many times. So YES! YOU ARE truly an inspiration to JUST DO IT! Your product is awesome and I see quilted bed jackets in my future. I live in Arizona and in the summer one needs a cozy jacket in Summer due to air-conditioning. I wear light sweatshirts or a second over shirt but someone gave me a quilted jacket and it's quite colorful. I wear it continuously. I even get sick of it. So since my scraps are sorted by color, I can see myself making different colored scrap jackets to be indoors this summer; easily slipped off to go out in the garden. Love your narration and concise delivery of this information. THANK YOU.
Thank you so much Yvonne! ☀️ I think scraps make gorgeous clothing projects for sure! Have SEW much fun! ✂️⭐️🧵
I loved watching the process - thank you for sharing❤️
You are so welcome! ☀️🧵
So many lovely fabrics! I even spotted a couple that are in my own stash/scrap boxes. This is such a great use of bits & bobs of cloth. You could even incorporate those pesky quilt blocks that didn't turn out quite right, but that you can't bear to throw away.
Thank you! ⭐️ And yes, so true, the orphans and the wonky blocks could be paired up here! ☀️

I have yards and yards of my scraps sewn together. I have huge sheets of them, 10 inch, 5 inch squares and 23 inch squares. Crumb peicing is very therapeutic and I dissassociate from the stress in my life.
Oh that is so neat to hear! ✂️❤️. And I totally agree about stress relief! ☀️☀️☀️
Awe Inspiring. I applaud your diligence. Tks for sharing.

Addictive to watch..I love scrapes😂I have done 2 crumb quilts and 2 strip quilts with scrapes like this. Most fun I have ever had! I listen to books or watch/listen to old movies while I do this mindless sewing❤❤ difference with me…I’m a crazy ironer. And starcher..so add a lot more time to my “bolt”! Plus, one box of scrapes bought at a yard sale, took we 3 wks to wash and iron to get them ready to sort and made my “scrapes”! (KH)
Thanks KH! ☀️. I binge watch shows while I do this chain piecing too! SEW much fun! 🧵✂️♻️✂️
Thank you so much. I've been working on a scrap quilt for my aunt, and I am so happy to see this method of scap sewing. I wish I had seen this a few years ago. I work on the quilt from time to time. She wants a king-size quilt. I ran out of scrap Fabric.

This video was amazing to watch. I've never thought of making a bolt of fabric with scraps. What a cool idea and how amazing it came out. I'm sure those 20 hours was worth it. I cannot wait to see what you do with it. You can easily make it a quilt top just how it is. Put the pieces together to make it whatever size you want. It would look awesome. Thanks for sharing. I really enjoyed it ❤
Thank you so much! ☀️💕 I made a different bolt about a year ago. I made a quilt, some zip bags, and some grocery sized tote bags. i’m not sure what I’ll do with this one. Yet!
