    Windows 10, has a lot of Windows 7 embedded within it. The big question is how to resurrect it from the depths of Windows 10, so you have the advantages of both Operating Systems in one. Microsoft could have easily given Window 7 users the option of a Windows 7 UFI for Windows 10.

    Thanks for this, mate, I'm gonna have no choice but to upgrade to 10 when I get new hardware, I hate when that happens, it was bad enough when this happened to me involving XP quite a long time ago (and at the time, freeware skins wasn't really a thing...or I wasn't tech savvy enough back then to install them on my own, take your pick)
    ..I'm with Scytheblader Microsoft should release official skins for this, if it's profit they're worried about they can charge for it, I'm sure people would pay for it, I know I would.
    Improve customer relations and earn some extra profit, how is that not a win win for everyone?

    67 years old, not a computer geek at all. But with the slowdown of Windows 7 over the past year, and the obnoxious behavior of Windows 10 (which I used for 2 years before going back to Windows 7), I did several hours of research and figured out how to get rid of Microsoft altogether, and installed Linux Mint.
    My 1.6 gigahertz 2gb cheap computer actually works, now.

      @Apollox44 Pollo Microsoft updates are practically meaningless. If you know how to use an antivirus program and avoid doing sketchy things online without a virtual machine, you can safely run an un-patched Windows 7 until it becomes impossible to find software workarounds.
      Fact of the matter is, Microsoft has no idea what they're doing right now and they've turned Windows into a hideous mess with a bland, butt-ugly UI, anti-user limitations, and more bugs than should EVER come from a project with their kind of resources available to it. If free products like Linux can be more stable and have more features, they have ZERO excuse.
      I'd rather have a fast, clean, private, and stable OS that lets me change how it looks without fighting me every step of the way, and take the risk of MAYBE getting a virus and MAYBE having to restore a backup IF it's bad enough.
      10 just completely fails the sanity test.

    • @VirtualAxiom
      @VirtualAxiom 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @Apollox44 Pollo I know they're not tailored to each specific OS (at least outside of which of the three OS types they run on between Win/Mac/Linux). But most if any exploits that Microsoft patches with security updates won't impact an average user, so it comes down to malware as a security concern, which a decent AV will protect you from in most cases. Double up if you're really paranoid.
      Microsoft's virus protection has always been mediocre if not completely worthless, so combine that with potential security threats not really meaning much to most people, and you've got a situation where updates are less important than dedicated protective software.
      I haven't updated this 7 box since April, don't run any AV, and do all of my pirating of movies and music in a Lubuntu VM. Haven't had a single problem, and I've got an up to date full-drive backup that I can restore in minutes if anything goes screwy. All of my files are on externals and backed up on a cold storage external.
      If you're not entirely certain about what you're downloading, you should be doing it in a virtual machine. Never on the host machine unless it's a Linux host, or even a Mac. Even with decent protection, that's asking for trouble on Windows. Microsoft's updates won't do anything appreciable to help that, and AV can only do so much. Always sandbox when pirating.
      In my experience, 10 has gotten buggier and less reliable with each new release. I've had inexplicable bluescreens that were completely unrecoverable and forced me to do a clean install, memory leaks that make just about every program I depend on unusable and that persisted across multiple machines with different hardware configurations but didn't happen on older versions of Windows with the same version of the software on the same machines, etc. And most of my customers come to me with similar stories.
      10 is also considerably slower than 7, actually. It's doing a TON of completely unnecessary things that bloat its resource usage and drag it down. As in, more than twice as much memory usage on a clean install, and negligible difference in boot times. I tested both on the same machine with the same NVMe drive, and 7 zips right along while 10 hitches and drags. Even on Ryzen and Kaby Lake, which 7 isn't even supposed to be compatible with.
      Sure, you can debloat Home and Pro or use LTSB, but you shouldn't have to go out of your way or ignore the consumer product just to meet the bare minimum requirements for a functional OS.
      I wish I could like 10. It would make my life so much easier. But Microsoft really needs to get their shit together and completely rebuild it from the ground up to be a more modern 7 clone instead of the unfocused, poorly coded disaster it is right now. As it stands, their 10 year old product runs circles around their current one to the point where they have to lie and manipulate the market to artificially push it into obscolescence. And that's just embarrassing.
      Also, privacy isn't all or nothing. There are concessions to be made, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be a concern at all just because we accept some things that infringe on it. 10 far oversteps its bounds in ways that 7 just doesn't with what it looks at and phones home about.

    I got into computers when xp was "The Big Thing", got into Windows 7 and really liked it a lot. Resisted Windows 10 mostly because of rumors, but once I upgraded and gave it a week or two I would NEVER go back to any older version of windows. Windows 10 just works well almost all of the time, and Microsoft with their New editions, vs Service Packs of updates makes reinstalling a breeze. There is enough customization that I never grow bored.

    Windows 10 looks like a poor knockoff of a Macintosh. After a year using 10 I am still confused about doing previously easy common tasks on Windows 7. However I am afraid that this shell would inject new complications into 10. Add-ons always do.

    • @MKFishing666

      I agree! Adding those add-ons will make Windows 10 worse. By now, I don't look at start menu, task bar or other features that's one day differentiated Windows 7 from the following OSs; I just look for a tool to get my job done or to fulfill my entertainment when I want. It is just a tool.

      I mainly use my PC for my DAW music studio and I don't really want any of my CPU usage or any other resources going elsewhere. Yeh it's nostalgic and all that but at the end of the day I don't really spend my time in the start menu or pissing around with the task bar, so after giving it some careful thought and after reading your comment I think I'll give it a miss.

My PC has hardware locked Windows 7 system restore discs, but in order to install it properly I would need to get a retail copy. The ones I've seen listed online have tons of reviews saying there's was a fake- that it worked fine for a few months but then it didn't. And they can't return it because it's out of suppliers warranty. I don't have $100 to $300 to discover a fake. I don't need the support. I can do Windows 7 all on my own. BUT- all to say that if you have a legit retail copy I would be very interested in purchasing it lol

      Windows 7 runs with modern CPUs just fine. The only problem is the drivers (or rather lack thereof). You only need to use a motherboard with a correct chipset (namely Z370 - this one has Windows 7 drivers and supports Intel's 9th gen CPUs).

    There is so much hate out there for Windows 10 and a lot of it is simply due to people not wanting to learn a new GUI (myself included). There is zero reason that Win 10 can't look and feel EXACTLY like Win 7 in every way. The average user doesn't care what's happening behind the scenes they just want their computer to work and for the user interface to remain familiar and usable. Microsoft reminds me of George Lucas. Each of them thinks they know what the customer wants when in reality they don't have a clue and end up ruining what used to be a good product.

    • @dlarge6502
      @dlarge6502 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree but dont think learning a gui is the issue. Its just the flat feature less and boring UI is crap. It looks horrible and confuses everyone. I hate not knowing which window has focus without checking the colour of the window title font, yes THE FONT, hate modal dialogs stealing focus but not responding to keyboard shortcuts till you click on the dialog even though it stole focus, hate different parts of the application not being separated from other parts clearly, hate buttons not looking like buttons and needing you to investigate them with the mouse just to see if they do anything or are just text, hate playing click the pixel to try and grab the scrollbar that someone decided it would be great for it to auto hide, hate the File menu that does not act or look like any of the other menus for no reason, hate playing hunt the pixel again just to try and resize a window.
      Flat UI design seriously only works on small screens. It falls totally "flat" on its face when using a proper computer. I studied HCI (human computer interaction) in Uni. These interfaces break long established rules just to look cool and are scientifically proven to damage productivity by at least 22% even in so called "digital native" kids. Newsflash, I was a digital native before the kids were even born and I have to use those skills to survive the clunky horror that is the flat win 10 ui.
      I pity any one kid or adult coming to a computer for the first time.

    The real only problem with Windows 10 is Microsoft went way to far off the beat with Privacy issues. That's the reason everyone like Windows 7 better. It's not the interface, it's the crazy personal monitoring in Windows 10. It cause us not to Trust Microsoft even more. Windows 10 personal monitoring is the worst public relations debacle they could have done. They need to reverse that part of the Windows 10 and promise us they are reversing their attitudes in that area. They should even go as far as have independent monitoring of the code with the monitors sworn to secrecy concerning enterprise secrets but not to privacy concerns.

However the video should have been about how to make windows look better than windows has ever looked before not how to make it look like something it has already been before.. i can think of lots of concepts that would look way better than win 7. i don't want to revert i want more customization especially appearance wise. for starters changing font color throughout the entire OS. also let us style menus with slanted, rounded or any other shape of corners we prefer our menus to have. custom dark mode through out the entire OS. types of colors such as matte, gloss, metaillic, pearlescent , or irridescent!
