Great OS but it looked so damn hideous. There is a reason why xp modding scene was so huge, with hundreds of good looking alternative themes and replacement icon packs(many of icon containing system .dlls and even explorer.exe were unsigned for this reason).. I mean when even MS made several better themes for xp, you know the default was so ugly.

Its just a cheap-ish 8th gen core i3 Asus netbook I got in 2018 or something. The thing is about it though, Its running on a semi outdated version of Windows 10, so it doesn't have all of the latest security updates, and it runs entirely on an Administrator account which means you run just about everything as administrator, giving anything access to changing things on your computer, but a good antivirus helps against this. Also setting up your own user account breaks the operating system from what I've been told as well.
@@MiniGramV That's slightly annoying about the user accounts. Does it run the same as normal when it comes to installing applications or is it locked down?

Omg, I'm so impressed by this. It brings me so much joy to know people still care enough about Windows XP to do this.
I am disappointed because this is nothing but rose tinted nostalgia, that praises the worst aspect of windows xp, which was it's default cartoonish look. Windows xp was the ugly duckling of an os. Great OS but it looked so damn hideous. There is a reason why xp modding scene was so huge, with hundreds of good looking alternative themes and replacement icon packs(many of icon containing system .dlls and even explorer.exe were unsigned for this reason).. I mean when even MS made several better themes for xp, you know the default was so ugly.
i work in the it and i get to work with people that aren't that well with computers and change. mostly elderly people too, if this is a near flawless windows xp copy but with the security updates that win 10 provides. i could recommend these people to install this so that they dont have to cope with change as much. Thats my reason for being interested in this stuff , just thought i should share haha
Impressive and nostalgic!
Nostalgia is a helluva drug. Makes people create stuff like this 😂
I remember the dude who made this posting it in a discord, always wanted to see how it actually worked. Very accurate.
Haha, are we all in this comment section? Only person I haven't seen from the community by now is Travis himself. I saw Aubrey, nwin, and now you!
Very cool! I wonder if there are any similar conversions with the win 9x style.
Just saw one a couple days ago, although IIRC it was a linux rice? Not sure.
@@MrTrollMedic Linux has Chicago95 for XFCE.
There actually is one called "Project 2k"
@@Luadewi thanks, I should check it out
If Microsoft made a Windows XP Remastered, it would be the best selling OS in history.
1:28 Oh! A short flash of XP-ness in the Win10-y startup sequence!
Say that again...
I can’t wait to do this to my computer, I’ve been rocking a 4K upscale version of the background
Hey, thanks for the video!
I was expecting you to go through the task manager and show us what's actually running in the background. I was wondering if that modification actually gets rid of any of those useless services and background apps. I was also curios to see the ram and cpu usage while browsing.
This is what would probably matter to me the most if i'm installing this modification because most of us hate all that useless garbage running in the background!
Again, thanks for the video!
I used to run pinball in Windows 10 and had the same issue and I had no custom theme added.
Would love a Windows 2000 Professional theme for Windows 10. Win2k was my jam for many many years.
SimpleClassicTheme
There is one, its called Project2k
they removed it with win8 because on 7 you can still activate the "classic" windows shell
@@emaneko22 it's still in windows 10 but it's in a slightly buggy state (as it's only kept around for apps that don't use uxtheme and it's only maintained for that purpose)
I've used a VM for Win2k, and it's a delight. It's just so.. snappy and practical.
God damn that is well made. For some reason I expected another XP mimicking theme full of inaccuracies but this is amazing.
this is so cool. i would love to see this done for vista
This is amazing. I've been trying to do this for years!
This is the actual reasons why I decided to stay on Windows 10 rather Moving on Windows 11 or Refuse to update to W11.
I love how every now and again The Algorithm blesses my feed with a MJD video I haven't seen yet.
I wonder how they created this?? I would love to see a Windows 10 with a classic shell down to the details.
Michael Mjd, I watched your video 2 months ago on February 20,2023. I like this transformation pack, and thanks to Travis, and thanks for exporting this video.
Its a "sleeper" OS.
This is impressive. I mean, I couldn't tell a difference in the look of the start menu till you did a side by side. Not only themed to look like XP but has all the default junk with it. Very impressive.
I still genuinely think that WIndows XP looks the most appealing to me. Nostalgia or not, I just love how it looks. And I might really daily drive this (if it's viable for that, ahven't watched the full vid yet)
This Video Just Brought Back A Cascade of Nostalgic memories in Front of my eyes....Life was So Simple Back then.
Michael dont know if you knew this but the same creator who made this XP "MOD" also made the same version but in a windows 7 style. Its windows 10 but it looks like windows 7 and its really good lmao
no he didnt
@@mlg_killer_hd nah i swear I saw someone do it even have it on a virtual machine my bad then tho thought it was the same dude
got a link to it?
Ojas =/= Travis
OMG, I need this for my time traveling. Don't want to be conspicuous at the LAN party.
I really hope that we get a version that is fully winXp'd so it could be properly viable as a usable OS without many bugs
Oh wow I low key wanna install this on my fun & games pc and actually use a 4:3 lcd monitor with it and some blue-gray early 2000's logitech keyboard and mouse combo. The idea of a sleeper build just got very alluring.
Holy absolute crap, this is INSANE.
Huge congratulations to this guy. This is beautiful and I so want to find a use case for this.
❤ This is so beautiful. Windows 10 Professional is amazing,I love it the way it is the best, just like Windows 7 was. ❤️ I also liked Windows XP Professional back in the day,it was great and innovative.
would love to see one for Vista or 7, but I bet that would never happen
I absolutely loved the Vista theme, I changed my 7 to look exactly like Vista, even with the indented start orb. Actually used it up until 2017.
Vista Ultimate is still my favorite ❤️
Reloaded7 exists now, so...
@@enkephalin. yep it eventually happened and I am happy as a clam
Now we have Modern XP. I can say Goodbye Ugly flat theme and say hello Windows XP
cmd.exe seems to be the actual xp version of cmd, which explains the version number (cmd.exe reports the windows version on its own and doesn't actually check it against any centralized APIs)
5:43 I've run my windows 7 in 2011 and windows 8.1 in 2014 laptops without ever updating them, for 3 years each.
Never had an issue. They died because of physical issues. Never got a virus or any other malware. Never got hacked because alleged vulnerability.
Muh security updates is actually just pebcak. Older systems are fine.
remember a few years back how microsoft release a skin changer program for windows 10 or whatever it was called? it had stuff from all the way back to windows 1 but all it was, was a few backgrounds, sounds and icons? this is what i was hoping that was going to be. a full conversion to the user side of windows that made it look and feel like older versions
ngl windows modders are insane lmao
Like I could probably show this to someone who actually has used Windows 10 and XP before (and are well familiarised with it), and let them use it for an hour and they could probably think it is windows XP
It's really easy to tell by the file explorer. It doesn't work like the XP one at all, the options on the left don't work at all, clicking anything just brings you back to "my computer"
@@aKuBiKu Shhhh I'm working on a C# recreation of the XP sidebar that's fully functional. It should be in the next release of Windows eXPerience ;3
@@kirasicecreamm holy balls that's awesome
@UC_OjTTKYKbR54MmP_6r14tA Yeah it's really cool already. I already have the injection working and it looks identical, so I just need to work on shell integration and then polish it. I wish I could post screenshots in TH-cam comments haha
I loved flying Strike Fighters: Project One on XP. What a great setup that was. This looks really cool.
Imagine this plus AME(Ameliorated)... could easily convince older people and run on crappy hardware no problem. Absolute looker! What I wonder though is, what is the "bill of materials"? I might not want the full thing, but would love to know about the individual components. Like just getting the Luna theme would be pretty awesome ^^
this is insane.....going down memory lane...just download it and will install tomorrow....delicious stuff
its actuly based on windows 10 ltsc 2019 (1809) witch gets updates until 2029
The only things that break eXPerience are:
-bootscreen. It's already possible by modifying both ntoskernel and bootmgr settings, so it'll look exactly like Windows XP.
-logonUI. While logon prompt looks okay, anything else is Windows 10.
-some minor issues like pinball borders already mentioned in this video.
-sfc /scannow. Running this command will break any files mods.
Otherwise, very impressive. More impressive than any other mod I've ever seen.
I actually use this on my laptop for work and school. Its really nice to have something that is Windows 10 but I know basically EXACTLY where everything is!
Does it work well enough to use it daily? I’m really considering installing this on my laptop for school because I love the look and few of windows xp
How well does it run on your laptop and what's the specs as I would love to set this up and running for college. ^^
@@MiniGramV hmmm i think I’ll have to give it a shot myself then. It seems very promising though
Really Awesome!! Hope to see this in the newest version of 10!

microsoft should just release the ability to theme your computer based on old windows versions
Windows XP was my childhood! so cool to see it being brought back like this
Man, watching this warms my heart so much. It's a feeling that reminds me of the times I fired up the first version of Mafia, or FIFA 2003, or wrote stupid things on message boards. It's like I'm 13 again. I guess this is what is called nostalgia. It doesn't make sense now to use Windows XP, but I would love to do it.
I'm watching this because I heard about it on a Twitter thread quite recently and wanted to know a combination of 1) how usable it is as a main OS and 2) how relatively safe it is to install, since I don't trust other ISOs.
Either way, might use it in QEMU in the future
Edit: 1809 is honestly...mildly acceptable for KVM + QEMU but not if I'm running it with no virtualization, so rip
It'd be great if Microsoft just had themes like this available. Like not a complete overhaul but like the ability to make windows 11 look like an older version if only aesthetically
It's Windows X....
P.
This is my cup of tea. Thanks for shout out to this wonderful custom win 10
This looks familiar……
dont look at the mirror
Travis has recently released Windows eXPerience Freestyle Service Pack 1, and he is planning on making eXPerience R2, based on Windows 10 Version 1903 instead of 1809 like Freestyle SP1 is.
Easy to find where to download. He said it will be the last release and very well finished unless there is some discoveries but I hope he continues to improve it. Like changing the setup elements or the boot up and login.
