- Welcome to a guide on how to make Windows 8.1 look like Windows 7. If you are still running Windows 7 and looking for an upgrade, I recommend doing this if you really want the UI of Windows 7. This is almost and exact copy of Windows 7 and it is impressive how much you can do to Windows 8.1.

I used a taskbar skin for classic shell and added a 15 pixel show desktop button that is close enough to the real one in my opinion. It works best with a 1920x1080 screen resolution

I guess it makes sense that the "United States" theme is replace with the "Mexico" theme on mexican Windows 7 releases, and I imagine there's a different country theme for each region.
Never really thinked about it until now.
Indeed, there's a diferent theme for everywhere. Notable examples are the Russia theme and Brazil.
In czechia we got nothing. All the themes except the regional ones
UK has its own theme
Some wallpapers even go by different names. In Portugal, the Bliss wallpaper from XP was named "Alentejo", which is a Portuguese region with lots of green prairies.
apparently i don't get my Mexico regional theme (running Windows 7 SP1 still to this day, pc won't boot)

Note : AG Blur Tweaker is not really nessecary, because it makes changes to the registry. Specifically at HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\DWM.
You can make the same changes by adding DWORDs.

The only missing thing is that the title for open programs in Windows 8 are centered where as in Windows 7 they are all the way to the left.
windows 8s theme is programmed like that and its also a core component for windows to run so you cant change that
same with the logon screen its programmed and made differently thats why you cant replace it like windows 7

To make it a little less tedious, install an icon pack instead of manually changing the icons one by one.

You can replace multiple icons at the time in CustomizerGod, just select the ones you wanna change with Ctrl and replace like usual.

Microsoft has now changed the way how windows theme are working now, suddenly dwm.exe was also eddited so much and it holds more than half of the operating system UI (even cursor won't be displayed without dwm in windows 11 for example where in windows 7 it simply disables aero theme) and in a simple words windows 10 and windows 8.1 are two opposite windows now...
and thats the reason I hate TrigrZolt@@Windowz98_

I installed Windows 8.1 on my good old PC and it's just turned my PC back into a beast! Insane performance! It was on Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit when it came, and then I updated it to Windows 10 32 bit, and after that to Windows 10 64 bit through clean install, and when performance became worse day by day, I changed to Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit on 2020 (that was the BIGGEST mistake lol) and had bushels of problems like GPU driver signature, etc. And after HEAVY lagging, frustrations and pains, Windows 7 updated to it's latest version and it was at least usable after that. Hence, I saw TrigrZolt's video on comparing 5 Windows versions, in which Windows 8.1 won. i was astounded, as Windows 8 was hated by my cousin brothers a couple years ago, and I thought Windows 8.1 must be no different. I was WAY TOTALLY WRONG. Installed Windows 8.1 two weeks ago, and got great performance. Snappiest experience possible, lowest boot time. And with a good combo of Windows 7 transitions and Windows 10 Metro theme. Had ABSOLUTELY no issues. No Telemetry, forceful creation of Microsoft Account, preinstalled bloatware and Cortana crap.

The icon in the sidebar of Windows Explorer is different because it's a different icon alltogether. You have to replace that icon in the Drive Icon tab.

if you want to use the windows 7 basic theme just kill dwm :)
all modern or metro ui related apps and stuff including the start screen wont work until you start dwm again so uh heres your warning
im surprised that more of the windows visuals and shit now depends on dwm while windows vista and 7 only needed it for aero

Nah winlogon.exe will restart the dwm
But basic theme has in windows aero 8.1.1 but not exactly look. But yes.

For win 8, you need to download the win 8 version of aero glass, and during installation you need to select both options

CustomiserGod isn't glitchy, its the icon cache. After deleting the cache and a restart, it should appear. Although, on Windows 10 it is VERY glitchy.
I never thought Windows 8 start menu was bad but when I upgraded to Windows 10 I got nostalgic thinking about it

This is almost exact with just a few minor differences. Windows 8.1 can really look nearly identical to Windows 7! It's a shame the same can't be said for Windows 10.

Well the new rtx graphics cards only support windows 7 or windows 10. Also the new call of duty modern warfare only supports windows 7 or windows 10.

For me, it's almost a protest. I'm going to 8.1 simply so I can postpone going to 10. Maybe in three more years, some Linux distribution will be able to run everything I need, or maybe my needs will change and I can suffice with Android devices. I'm really glad TrigrZolt made this video.
@@OldyOldLandOldOldy It's the same reason as Vista. There some programs that run on XP and 7, but not Vista, just like the ones that run on 7 and 10 but not 8. It's because these OS' have been "marked" as bad and that means not a lot of people uses them.

You must have a beasty machine to have 12.1GB of RAM in the VM lol! I want to install Windows 8.1 in Virtualbox but when I turn on Intel Virtualization all my other virtual machines don't work! What am I meant to do to make them work? I should mention I get a Hyper V related error with them.

Had the same glitches with the customizergod that you mentioned (Glad I backed up my computer because it literally didnt open start menu after changing some icons) and because im really lazy to find any solution so just didnt do anything with it. It doesnt bother me a lot anyways. Really liked the end result, It literally is SO similar to windows 7! And your tutorial was nice and simple to keep up so thanks! Now im gonna enjoy my new windows 7
Also I know you said to not ask about it, but if you know any solution to the customizergod can you share it? as I said when I tried putting an icon it didn't display so I tried using the restore button. Bad idea. It wouldn't let me open start menu and all the icons were gone. Tried a second time but didnt nail it so instead of doing the long procces of restoring to another point I just did the /SFC SCANNOW on cmd. Works pretty well to restore corrupt icons if you ask me. So do you know anything about this? I searched a little but no solution. Thankss!
@Jookie27 Actually I dont have customizer god installed.I had to update to Windows 10 because of some high school stuff. Also even if I had windows 8 still I didnt have that app installed... andwhy would it break my computer anyways?

Tbh, the only two reasons I use win 10 is because I have a windows mixed reality headset, and because Windows 7 isn't getting security updates, and actualy, if win 7 supported wmr headsets I might actually consider going back.
My favorite theme always was Architecture

A long time ago on w8.1
My pc didn't properly shutdown and I hit task manager
The window border was w7 style and then I opened cmd as a new task and hit explorer
A buggy Windows 7-like UI showed up, taskbar and all
Start menu was unusable but it let me shutdown properly
Was cool
And scary I'm too poor to get a more up to date computer lmao
Is there a higher resolution version because the arrows to go back and forward on the folders is outside of the black "8" that goes with the theme

I use Stardock Start8, it's easy to transform windows 8.1, except for aero theme, must edit system files

Ye,windows 8.1 was like a failure cuz of start screen,so not even after a year,Microsoft developed Windows 10 and gave up making more systems because of all the hates were coming with the 8.1
I think the reason (which actually could be the real reason) why 8.1 is so underrated is bc of Windows 8’s failure and people who used it a bit downgraded to Windows 7 and told others to ignore and avoid it.
you can just press the spacebar (or any other key) to lift the lockscreen on pcs - otherwise good tutorial
idk about yall but i like windows 10 just fine.. but this is really useful on my other pc. it has windows 8.1 and this does help alot.

If you disable fast startup you don't lose that much speed and fast startup only causes problems anyways.
