I think his MO of buying old junky equipment which he repairs on a need-to basis ties in with his life’s plan and purpose of cutting his cloth to suit his clothes ie his start-up years requires fine budgeting, discipline and AC definitely has way above average perseverance and discipline.

    A little tip on cutting the water heater hose. Use a band clamp snugged down on the hose. Just tight enough that it doesn't move easily. Align one edge of the band clamp on the cut line of the hose for a guide. Then use a sharp box knife and cut using the band clamp as a guide.

  • @TheSubatomicCheese
    @TheSubatomicCheese ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Probably wiser to back it up hills next time, so that it's pulling the drum and you have more control, rather than driving it uphill drum-first and having it slide all over the place. That, and having the skidder pulling it for safety. The weight of that machine, the lack of traction and the smooth drum when leading make that a death trap running it up hills of frozen dirt and ice. No ROPS could mean things go bad fast if it starts to slide off one of those mountain hills and flips.

    I was wondering the whole time how these tires can still hold air.
    They are driven down to slicks without profile, they are very old and worn out,
    and they have intense dry rot on them everywhere.
    Two chains mounted together with the new tires would be very useful,
    but i think I remember Andrew mentioned that in one of his videos too.

  • @bruceadler-9410
    @bruceadler-9410 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    The reason the winch cable failed at +56:20 is that as the cable gets shorter the snatch block that the roller is chained to is pulling the cable sideways. As the cable gets straighter (and the snatch block is pulling more and more sideways on the winch cable) that causes the tension in the winch cable to rise exponentially. Pulling sideways on a cable can even cause the tension in the cable to exceed the tension that would be caused by just lifting the roller straight up off the ground. For example, when the angles between the roller, the winch, and the anchor tree are all equal (ie 120 degrees each) the tension in the cable is double what's actually pulling on the roller. The first set up at +55:30 (with the snatch block chained to the anchor tree, and the roller pulling inline on the winch cable) was in fact the correct setup, you just needed to use an anchor tree and chain that could withstand twice the force of the pull exerted on the roller.

    Next time, if you put that hose into hot water, it is much easier to manipulate it onto the rigid fittings.

    Great video.
    My take of what not to do.
    Never trust your life on a hydraulic anything.
    Brake flare, only could see the flare tool being put over the split clamp I didn't see the insert that makes the bell part of the double flare, all hydraulic brake flares must be a double flare.

      Yeah, I’ll talk to Andrew. As long as he doesn’t want to film it, I can.
