As someone who has fooled with friction rigs for the last 35 years, it is astounding to me how well that old Bucyrus walks!. I don't think people realize how rare that is. Beautiful old iron man.
Thats a fact brother.
Yah hands down the best one I’ve got! It travels like new
@@DieselCreek DC your like a piano virtuoso working that Bucyrus handles and pedals
I’ve seen old cranes not able to go 10’ without Someone Hollering Whoa! One of the Six Men Walking with Her Watching them Rails Closely as not to Deal W/ That. That is the very Best Undercarriage on a Cable Rig I’ve ever Seen.
Yes and add to that the sound of an E9500 pulling it is GLORIOUS.....
Not everyone has the money or the room for a D8 or your Bucyrus in their backyard. Bringing your iron to the show makes you a hero to many. Continued success.

@@gerry-p9xyeah that's ridiculous, a guy who I listen to on a podcast was saying he had an old classic car in his driveway and the home owners association in his neighborhood told him to move it he was furious and I don't blame him. I can't understand how that can be if u own your own house.
I just hope someone else appreciates how glorious the turbo on the 8 sounds….
Nice whistle to it, music to my ears!
Yeah I certainly do, the first truck I ever drove was a Mack superliner, back in the 80's in Australia, that old superdog was imported into Australia from the states by the owner, and I took it around the clock, clocking up almost 1m kilometres on it myself. I certainly miss that old dog, with the 600 ponies under the hood.
Sounds great, I just love hearing it screaming.
But now it's missing that melodious chime it had.... 😂
36 turbo sounded better than the 46
Wow the Blade on the d8 Came off super Easy Matt impressive 2:14 @Diesel Creek
It’s good to have a friend like Sam. I imagine that you both help each other out a lot. Good friends are a blessing.
Win win relationship!
That's crazy sounded like you hit the REV limiter wen you fired up the old girl..... 😆 That motor sounds vary strong....

They probably don’t live too close to each other but mid Midwest country we Collett neighbors. Something I grew up with try to impress on the younger generation that moves in Into the area.
We are having our "Field Day of the Past" in Amelia county, Virginia Sept. 15,16,17, 2023 and they have basically everything under the sun from the early 1800's steam, to all types of sawmills, steam plants of all sizes, hit and miss everything, gas engines, heavy equipment, from all decades and lots of cool vendors. Come on out, the temps. are forecast to be in the upper 70's and no rain that weekend. There is accommodations in Farmville and Amelia courthouse. Farmville is just a few miles from Appomattox Courthouse where the Civil war ended.
When I was a very young boy, I played with thos old, steel, Tonka Toys. I had a grader and s big dump truck.
You guys just got older, got bigger Tonkas, and have the time of your lives! I really, really aporeciate these videos...
100%! The only difference between men and boys is the price of their toys lol
@@alanbierhoff6831That's the truth! I moved up from Tonka to operating and wrenching on CAT iron for a living, and owning some older iron of my own to mine with on the weekends.
@@Porty1119 Mine? Yah means to play with! If the truth be told! Eh?
So it’s not heavy equipment but I just bought 1989 Mack CF688FC Fire engine I’m picking her up on 9/1/23, I got the confidence from watching your videos that I can restoring her back to her full glory again… Thanks for your videos!
Every time you run your beautiful D8, I am blown away by how quiet it runs, even under load. It really does purr like a kitty Cat! What is it about that massive engine that makes it run so quiet?
BTW - I LOVE your trademark limerick: "Come with me, and you'l see, an OSHA violation!" It never gets old!
still laughing on that one, he needs to do a mocking satire song with his band on that
Couldn't tell ya, but I periodically have to deal with an old CAT 3304PCNA that is has a similar quiet purr at idle. It sounds great but unfortunately smokes like a train and the machine it powers is an ergonomic disaster.
It only seems quiet, unless you are comparing it to other videos of similar machines. They were very loud when I was a kid and would see them. I have run new machines and they are so quiet they can sneak up behind you like a car or pickup truck. The Jackson Brothers have two D11 dozers. th-cam.com/video/mxB9i_U1OTo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Ix192GopQboOb6Ix The big equipment has big engines and big engines don't usually spin as fast and they make tons of torque. I think the engine in the D11 only goes to 1800 rpm for normal operating range. They sound quiet because they spin slower and with such a narrow rpm range, they don't have to be revved high for full power. You don't hear the sound change as much as a small machine like a skid steer.
Not his trademark, but still funny!
12:30 That Mack starting to haul ass, reminds me of the sweet sound of steam, starting out and then working her up the grade.
Greetings from Estonia 🇪🇪! Add some more info: I've been watching and following Matt's actions for a long time. Seeing these machines makes me nostalgic, because when I was a boy they were the main working beasts. Even in the Soviet Union, the hard work machines were similar. Yes, they diligently copied them too 😀 In any case, good job Matt and you will be watched even in the far corners of the world :) Good luck to you!
Hi and welcome
Greetings from my bathroom.

Hello from Ireland 😊
Greetings from the Missouri Ozark
ya know i work with an old loader operator (formerly a yarder man) and he's told me about how he thinks knowledge of line and friction machines is going to disappear, i dont disagree with him but now that we're laid off for the wet season and i'm leaning into the DC channel (harder than the booze, thank god) i've got some faith, the old timer does too.
" Temporary, unless it works " is always in my toolbox. Great video !
Always!
epic fix BTW you wear ear earplugs on those monsters?@@DieselCreek
I've got several "temporary" fixes around my house that I did like 15 years ago. When they break again and I have to fix them, that's when the temporary ends, and a new temporary begins.
@@DieselCreek takes me back to being a six yr old and dad bought me a tonka grader dump. Dozer...many hours. Playing road construction with my buddies...great mems
I believe he said sometimes but most often he's using bluetooth earphones and listening to podcasts and stuff. What we see as a 'quick' half hour video is hours or even days of work for him, just wrenching away or troubleshooting.
I'm an old school operator, but love the new stuff, working on pipelines got a chance to run old D8 and D9 sidebooms, livedraw works, coolest things ever, seeing your old school dozer reminds me of the good old days
Thanks to guys like you and Sam these old machine will be around for generations to see how America got it done when it needed do-in. Good on ya! And for all those “Carbon Footprint” naysayers out there, there’s a Bucyrus-Erie model 1850-B electric shovel on display in SE Kansas that-at one time was the largest ELECTRIC shovel in the world. Ironically it dug coal in a strip mine back in the 60s and 70s.
Big Brutus !
Yeah, I've been there to see that thing 2 or 3 times. It is really a brute. They said when it would load up on a big bucket full the lights would dim in town. 😄
I need to make it over there.
Any petroleum powered engine wastes a lot of energy and requires the cost of maintenance, electric just plug it in and work it! The torque of the motors is amazing.
@@gregbridges2365 Yes!
Great vid!!!...DC, everytime you drop that start lever on the "8", and that pony motor coughs, then white smoke starts belching from the main engine....the smile on your face is PRICELESS!!!...😁👍👍👍👍

Totally off topic ADHD moment, but every time I watch the new intro to your channel, I can't help but acknowledge how absolutely perfect the roof of your new dream shop looks. Your builder should be proud of their work, it is obvious that they took pride in their workmanship.
Being a retired Union Carpenter/ welder they ought to take pride in their work!
I known I did😋
Edgell Construction they do awesome work.
ADHD/autism confirmed! I was literally about to say something similar about just how perfect the roof is last week lol. But decided that wasn't the weirdo I wanted to be that day 😂.
I'd like to see the drone fly through it.
@@zyebormAmish don't have autism, nor ADHD. Nor anti depresents, or anti anxiety drugs. They didn't get the vax.
Watch Wes Work is another never miss channel for me. And Matt referred to one of my all time favorite lines....it's temporary....unless it works. 😂 Pretty much sums up my life. Thanks for all your content Matt. Always enjoyable.
I'm a huge 'real Diesel power' fan as none of this modern Common Rail stuff interests me or even sounds the same, terrific videos as usual, Matt, you have a great natural style with clear narration and easy for us British viewers to understand ! No fuss, no drama just.. pure entertainment..glad to see you put a proper exhaust extention on it ! those fumes will do your lungs in eventually!
All great videos . Some of ur vids have helped me . Thanks.
Thanks so much!
25:20 That was me, in the late 60's early 70's. On board of one of my grandfather's D-6's. He was the operator and, I was the apprentice/tool box warmer. Best summer vacations I ever had.
Mat, & Sam, are classy guys. They know it’s the viewers that are making their adult Tonka Toy dreams come true & they’re gracious enough to bring the old iron steeds out for the public to enjoy.
Good on ya both! 🇺🇸🏁
When I started watching your channel, you went to this show as a spectator and spoke about your dreams of one day b we ing a participant. Now, over a few short years with hard work, you are there with your friends. Last year you showcase the beautiful Galion that you affectionately call Christine. Oh, and that beautiful F-450 too.
❤❤❤I love this.. in this age of computers and electronics I celebrate the dedication you all have to saving these mechanical wonders of yesterday.
I live in Portland OR. And attend the Brooks Steam Up every summer CAT has a museum of old equipment that is wonderful. Plus many other displays etc. including a steam driven production saw mill.
With all of that said, I’ll believe your TRULLY preserving and important part of industrial America.
Warms the heart to see all the 'big machines' working again that I loved watching work as a kid!
Thanks @DieselCreek!
👍🇺🇸😎
I’m really enjoying seeing Sam involved more and more on your videos. He seems like a good friend
Definitely!
Heh - down the turnpike to 37A and down the Mon-Fayetteville past California. You are taking me back to the diversions of my youth. What a cool place that steam show appears to be. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Matt we really enjoy watching you play with all your big boy toys, jankey and all🤗😎🤗😎
I love how you point to yourself when you're telling us your name. You look like a little boy playing with his toys when you're on your machines - too cute!! Great videos - so interesting & entertaining!! I appreciate that we can watch with our Grands & not have to worry about words we'd rather them not hear!! 😍👍 God bless you and your family! 🙏 ❤️👍

OSHA regulations is really only intended to protect the employer and uninformed/untrained/(less protective of themself) employees.
Thst old mack superliner is Gorgeous Matt 10:30 @Diesel Creek
When ever I see this shovel operate, it reminds me of a book I read as a kid..."Mike Mulligen and his steam shovel".
I think I still remember the words after 70 years
NICE Video!! I liked the back of the Tee shirt with the Olds hit and miss on it, that's what I collect, about 70, of the hit and miss engines, and have went to most shows here in the Midwest around Mo, at one time or another. I didnt get a picture of a old shovel at the Montgomery City, Mo show this weekend, or a good look at it , had rubber tires on it, and UTIL or partial lettering on the boom, dont think I had ever seen one like it, others were saying the same. Been watching you work on the D 8, especially stringing rope, it brings back a memory as a kid, 65 now. But I was about 5 or 6 years old, and the neighbors where having a 2 acre lake built, next door, and Mom would let me sit by the fence watching the EARLY D8 pulling a rope pan, and a D9 pushing dirt, one day the man running it, named George Clinton, noticed I had been watching a couple days, and stopped, and walked over, and told me, IF I GOT a permission note from my Mom he would give me a ride on it!! YEAH BUDDY that was cool, for about a hour, then the rope to pan broke, Dad had got home from work, and came looking for me, and offered to help George out, to rerig the pan, George only had 1 arm!! He kinda got offended , he could do things with only 1 arm, from the elbow down and a hook on left, most men with 2 arms could do in less time!! He came over the next day and kinda apologized he wasnt used to anyone giving him a hand! Dad had a Lincoln/ Wisconsin welder, and was good with it, that I still have, and done some welding for him, in the fields on another farm next door, he was clearing, and broke something, and became good friends with him, as Dad had a old skeleton Ford backhoe he started out with. That backhoe of my Dads I missed getting, after 50yrs not knowing what had happened to it, when he bought a NEW Massey Ferguson, with the slide hoe, JUNK, we later got Fords 4500,s, as I seen it go by my house on a private road, and talked to the guy that owned it later, and where it had come from!! Never knew he had it BUMMER. Try running that D8 with just your right arm, and imagine just a hook on your left sometime! a Helluva man he was. Glad some younger guys are saving these to, I used to know where a lot of old draglines and cable operated stuff was, in my hunting days we would run across a few, most were scrapped out later...
That Mack is truly beautiful, thank you Matt and Scrappy. Have a great weekend.
12:50 In response to the concern viewer about the mack sounding like it isn't firing on all cylinders. I’m from Denmark and i have grown up listening to old Scania v8 motors and the v8 in the mack and the v8 in the Scania sound alike and that is just how a disel v8 straight pipe sounds like. And I really like the raw v8 sounds. So there is nothing wrong with the motor.
Your Bucyrus runs really well. An early memory is seeing a steam shovel at work. That took some skill. Best from the UK
Hi 'ole tool team. Watching from Australia as I do for both you and Scrappy. 67 retied earthmover and trucker n just love the memories. Keep it going as you are loved by many many folks.
Just an FYI, there is also a steam engine show in Portersville Pa every year. We used to go to it when I was a kid and it was amazing. I need to go back, and should since I only live about an hour away from there.
Great stuff as always Matt, thanks for posting. Would love to see a nice chrome exhaust stack on the old D8.
The glorious sound of an E9 is there anything on earth better when they crack on with the job . I remember going up a hill watching one with side cooling panels instead of full bonnet could see the red hot glow if the snail putting out the hard yards .😉
Sam's the man, Always good to have a friend that has the same interest as you. Understandable that you were very busy at the steam show. But sad for us because you didn't get to video 😢 😊 Thank you for sharing!
One could easily assume Scrappy's truck has a dead miss by the sound on video, but the best way to tell for certain is to do a IR temp gun check on exhaust manifold ports. If you got a cold port, you got a miss. (or crack each injector line and listen for changes, or unplug if electronic)
You really enjoy playing with the D8 That's easy to tell ,And I can't blame you ,what a awesome line up of heavy equipment you are amassing and the best part is everything works 👋👋👋👋
The tow job at 28.40 reminded me of my day. I used my JD GX345 to tow my VW bus backwards around to my side yard 👍
Matt, you keep adding items to my bucket list. Now I have to attend the Steam Show and operate a cable-operated piece of heavy equipment before I move on. I also noticed all the lush greenery where you've thinned out the trees on your property. I bet that little buck friend of yours is really enjoying your free salad bar!
Yep, Big Brutus in West Mineral, KS is a sight to see and a marvel to walk in to! Worth the trip!
That mack sounds fantastic as for ur d8 that whistle from the turbo as it spools up is a sound for all to hear and enjoy
Thanks for the tag along video Matt. Nice to see all your efforts in getting old equipment running come to fruition at the show. As for breakdowns and oopses, well that’s just part of it. Fun video to watch.
It's one thing to resurrect old iron and tram it back and forth for a few minutes. It's quite another to run it hard for a couple of days - you'll rapidly find the weakest links!
Oh sweet another national Pike steam Show video Oh yeah Matt 😎 1:00 @Diesel Creek
Never realised how big that blade from the D8 was until you put it on the trailer, thanks again for the great video
Hi Matt
Every time I hear the mac truck, it just takes me back to a child again. Such a sweet sweet ride. Those whistling turbos 🫶
Best channel on TH-cam... thanks Matt
Appreciate that
Had to smile -those last minute jobs and breakdowns seem to be a 'normal' for any of these types of exhibitions of vintage machinery. Excellent coverage of the preparation and return.
Glad you enjoyed it
Nice aerial shot of the yard. Looking good!
Good morning Matt. Having been born and raised within 20 minutes of Brownsville Pa. I know exactly where the show is held. There are many sights to see in that area of the state. I have been to the steam show in my younger days and it's amazing to see these machines at work. I always try to guess which roads that you take to get there. God bless and have a wonderful day.
You just need to build you out a loading area with millings & you can give Mrs Diva Creek a Concrete or Blacktop Driveway 👍🏻😊
Greetings from England.
Recently found Matts channel , been laid up from work so have been over indulging in Diesel Creek videos.
Gotta say firstly, nice to see a ‘youngster’ looking out for the old big boys toys, and i am absolutely in love with Autocar , i’d love one, I suppose the closest thing here would be Scammel or a couple of Leylands.
Matt should put a couple of holiday cabins on his farm, he’d be permanently booked up.
Great video. I really enjoy the times that you and Chris from letsdig 18 get together.
Matt you are an awesome man. Bring back old machines back to their former glory. And one thing I like is your osha violation sound. That puts a smile on my face.
Nice video as usual.
It may be pretty warm now but fall and cold weather is not too far away, what are you doing about your wood powered boiler for the new shop ? That warm floor is going to be nice this winter.
I used to work with a guy that never got off of the tow motor, just like at 3:26 when you pushed up those bars. He would even push buttons with the forks to open and close doors.
The world of OSHA violations cracks me up every time I hear it! Matt, you and Sam should do a livestream together.
The National Pike Steam Show in Brownsville is a great venue and I’ve had a wonderful time every time I’ve attended it with my dad and uncles. It’s down home fun and I know a few of the guys who demonstrate in the blacksmith shop.
Cheers!

Thanks for singing the OSHA violations ditty...We been waiting for that...!!!
Sam I never get tired looking at your beautiful SuperLinner. LOVING THAT V8 MACK MUSIC!
Matt is a little kid in a sandbox full of big toys😂
I was thinking the same thing. Man-size sandbox, I love it.
I live close to Bucyrus, OH where half of Bucyrus-Erie originated back in 1880. They moved their headquarters in 1897 to Milwaukee & in 1927 merged with Erie Steam Shovel. Some heavy equipment came from around here including Marion OH where Marion Power Shovel originated from... they were eventually bought by Bucyrus-Erie. Cool to see these old machines still moving. Keep it up!
Sure curious to know how the power gets from the engine to the tracks on that shovel, even how the house rotates. Someday we'll need an in depth tour.
Sam has a good video on that
I'm so glad I learned about the Steam Show from you. We had fun and was nice talking to you there.
I love the sound of Turbo in the morning!!
Idea for an episode. You may already have this in mind, but I thought I would suggest it anyway. On the “incredible driveway” you built a couple years back (you do have some gear parked alongside there) OR back along the back side loop around driveway (which the bride may prefer since you want to build your house at the end of the main driveway) you build 45 degree parking pads (nicely gravelled) for each of your treasures. Will keep of the grass and mud while not in use and would be a wicked display. Finally THANKS for the OSHA jingle - long overdue. Thanks for sharing. Ps can we get a nice high view straight down to re-familiarize with the farm layout?
Awesome, I was almost ready to go be productive but now a cup of coffee and Matt.
l like the startup on the lorry at 30:45 and I like the idle on the lorry as well
Matt, I love the way you drive that truck, I wish I had one
Man that D8 brings back memories of visiting my uncle. He cleared land with a cable lift with a v blade. I have ridden with him hours and hours when I was a kid. Thanks for saving the old iron
I think a good name for your D8 would be SnaggleTooth 😉
Didn’t Paul Wintchel do the voice for old Snaggletooth?
That red superliner is one sweet sounding v8 mack attack❤
No its not missing!
And they pull like a freight train them v8 bulldogs.

Both of my parents are from Brownsville and were married in St. Peter RC Church. I spent a lot of time there as a kid both dinner visits and summer vacations with relatives. Then visiting and doing chores for them as an adult. I have a lot of great memories and fondness for that historic area.

Don't you know that beautiful old 8 is happy to be doing a little something. Everyone loves her.
Great 👍 content 😊. Wish I could have seen more of the show 😉. Thanks for sharing ☺️.
Shuttle Vehicle will be nice to have when you park Dozer & Shovel at show. Hope you meet some old timers that will give you some hot tips on servicing , restoring , & operating dozer & shovel. They might even know where to locate parts you might need. A little Brown bourbon might get em talkin . Been a lot of Heavy Equipment Bought & sold that way . Good Luck & have a good one
I love the intro music you play at the start of your videos. I never knew old HD machinery could be so interesting. You do a great job Matt. The gaffs and mistakes just make you seem more human and interesting. Love and a God bless from a fan from Norway!...
Reminds me of the D8 we had in Vietnam stationed on the DMZ in QuaViet. We absolutely could not get parts, so we stole one for parts and boy was the General pissed. He sweared if anyone was caugt near it they would go to Long Binh jail. It is probably still buried on the DMZ somewhere. Your antique D8 is similiar only no seat for the shot gunner.
That CAT D-8 is a Beast! Shot blast and a paint ,VOILA! Perfection! READY FOR ANOTHER 60!❤ this channel!!!
That COSCO container (as well as the one on the other side) could use a fresh coat of paint on the outer wall and then a giant "DIESEL CREEK" logo professionally applied. Just imagine how that scene would have looked around the 19:25 mark! Toss in a "SUBSCRIBE" for good measure.
