    Many automatic machines don’t deliver a dark espresso shot. This one does. And, the milk is nice and hot. Have owned this machine for about 3 years. Still loving it, as do friends and family. For its current price it may be the best deal around for a fully automatic machine.

      @@Wholelattelovepage Sure thing, Marc. I always enjoy your videos and benefit from your expertise. Interestingly, I just looked up how long I have owned the Anima Prestige, it has actually been OVER 7 YEARS not 3 as I initially thought. Can’t believe how time flies.

      @@MarkMphonoman Well thanks for the kind comment! The lost Covid years? 7 years is wonderful and expected with good routine maintenance. We get regular reports of +15,000 brew cycles with nothing more than that. Any guess as to how many brew cycles on your Anima? I did my first of 44 videos on the Anima in November of 2015. You must have been among the first to own the machine!

      @@Wholelattelovepage Ha, that is a tough question to answer. Thousands of espresso shots because I have at least one shot a day. Not much on milk beverages because that only happens when family and friends request them. While I have had the Anima Prestige for 7 years, I also have a Gaggia baby from the 1990’s and about every other year it comes out of the closet and finds its old home on the kitchen counter for a few months. Must admit, I also periodically use a Nespresso machine for shots. So, while the Anima has been going strong for + years, and I truly love it, it does share time with other machines. Tell you what, I am eyeing the new Jura models and like what I see. Lol. Guess I just love and enjoy a variety of machines and coffees. Mark

    Very proud to have ordered my Anima Prestige yesterday. After much research - 90% on this channel - I decided that this was the best value for what I need at home. I try not to make too many milk drinks ... I do have co e up with my own “café con leche” - just 3 ounces or so of milk. After that just Americanos and an espresso early afternoon. Just live mine.

      We were at Jura's North American headquarters a few weeks ago (see video link below) and sampled coffee made with and without PEP on their new Z6 machine. It seemed to produce an espresso with more crema and richer body/flavor. Of course a lot depends on the coffee being used. Here's the video which goes over the new PEP process: th-cam.com/video/cU5MMO4urwQ/w-d-xo.html

    I'm torn between this machine and either the new Jura D6(limited reviews because it's new) or the Jura Ena Micro 9. Seems like these machines are a little nosier than the Juras based on the video reviews. Can you offer any help in reaching my decision. Is changing the grind size tedious for beginners with the tool on Gaggia machines as opposed to the turn dial? I'm upgrading form a Keurig so I know taste is going to be substantial on either machine. I've done a lot of research and my head is spinning.

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi TT, These decisions can be difficult! What drinks will make the most. If doing mostly milk drinks, I'd go with the Gaggia as with the carafe it's more convenient. If mostly coffee/espresso I like the Jura ENA Micro 9 - It's what I have at home for coffee and espresso. As you mention any bean to cup machine will make a much better coffee than a Keurig. Also save you a bunch as whole bean coffee is far cheaper than the capsules! Sound wise the Jura may be slightly quite than the Gaggia but it's a subtle difference and not one I'd use to make a decision on. Changing grind size is not tedious with the tool.

    How would this compare to the Jura E6. I'm looking for a super automatic machine and have narrowed it down to one of these. I mainly do espresso, with only the odd milky coffee so that is not a big deal. Any chance of a comparison video of the Anima and the E6?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Chris, We do not currently carry the Jura E6. Believe it's a model only available in Europe so cannot do a comparison video :( I did look up the E6 and it uses Jura's PEP: Pulse Extraction Process. PEP pulses brew water through the coffee resulting in a fuller/longer extraction.

    How much coffee do I put for the expresso/cappuccino/ and latte macchiato.
    I have extra coffee left over in the machine?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Gina, A typical single espresso is 1oz/30ml. A cappuccino is usually made with 2oz/60ml of espresso and 4oz/120ml of frothed milk. Latte macchiato typically made with 1oz/30ml of espresso. If desired, you can go into the menu of the machine and reset to factory setting which should deliver these amounts. Hope that helps!

    Hi, I’m wondering if it’s possible to make a chai latte with this machine, and how you’d go about it? Just cut open a bag of chai tea and put it in the place where you’d put pre-ground coffee? Thanks.

      Hi mg, Thanks for the question. Can't say as I've tried that. Water would not be in contact with tea for very long so not sure it would work. The machine does produce hot water out of the spout on left front of the machine. Could use that to brew your tea.

    After watching many of your comparison and review videos, I purchased a Gaggia Anima Prestige . Having recently found myself short of funds, I had to get a used one that is not quite in perfect working order. Everything works as it should, except that it does not eject the puck. I must remove the unit and push up on the plunger mechanism from below, which does not seem to offer an excessive amount of resistance. Any idea where I should start troubleshooting? It's not obvious to me how the mechanism is activated (no spring or other mechanical pusher). Is it activated by vacuum from above or water pressure from below? If all else fails, do you sell just the brew group? Disassembling now...

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi UTRB, You might start here with an in-depth video which goes thru deep cleaning of a brew group. Group in the video is from a Gaggia Brera machine but is very similar to thr group in the Anima: th-cam.com/video/HGmfnGN_JQA/w-d-xo.html
      This video demonstrates how to remove a stuck brew group on a Brera - also shows the proper position of various parts of a brew group. Might help in the off chance something is out of position on your group: th-cam.com/video/KxcZzpyu4Fw/w-d-xo.html
      We do carry replacement brew groups. If all else fails give us a call at 888-411-5282 and our tech support staff can help you out.

    • @UTubeRangerBob
      @UTubeRangerBob 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the super quick reply. Sorry I wasn't around to do the same. But I did order a new brew group from youse guys, and at a pretty decent price.
      I had seen the videos you mentioned, and a couple of dozen more. No help.
      The new brew group solved the problem and now I can see what was wrong with the original. It seems that the ears on the black connecting rod (part number 996530001452, BLACK CONNECTING ROD BREW UNIT 8GR) are about 3-5mm too short, so they weren't catching the nubs on the interior sides of the brew group and forcing the puck up as the brew unit container came down. I'll have to take it apart again to see if the ends were broken, worn, or a manufacturing defect.
      You might let your techs know that this is a possibility for failure to eject. The person I spoke with seemed to think that the puck was ejected by being held to the plunger by vacuum, which was also one of my assumptions since I saw no mechanical mechanism for it in my brew group. All other guesses involved wet pucks, wrong grind setting, and cheap/oily coffee.
      Anyway, again, great price for the replacement part. We'll be doing business again.

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Kelley, Thanks for the question. The lungo button can be programmed for larger cups. I believe the max is about 6-7oz. Depending on how strong your husband like his coffee you might be better off programming the lungo for 4oz (or more), pressing the button twice and the machine automatically runs 2 brew cycles. I use Gaggia machines (mostly the Accademia) like that to make larger travel mugs to go.

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Adi,
      It's okay to use the finest grind setting - the smallest dot. Occasionally, when using very dark roasted beans the finest setting can choke the machine causing a slow or no flow condition when brewing. Also, as with any super-automatic machine refrain from using beans with oily surface sheen. Beans with oily surface may cause the grinder to clog.

      fupa you’re welcome! In order to make a proper latte or flat white it’s espresso in the cup first then milk froth over top. Not many machines that’ll do that order. Machines in past always did milk first then espresso. With those in most cases you ended up with the macchiato look of espresso layered in the middle. Sorry for the delay in response. Had a big project last week and usually go offline for weekends. Enjoy your new machine! Marc

    Is there any restrictions when using the ground coffee function on top? Can I use the ground flavored coffee ? I know you say don’t use flavored or dark coffee beans because they are too oily. Does that apply to the ground coffee?

    • @Wholelattelovepage

      Hi Bob, Thanks for the question - it's a good one! When using preground coffee via the bypass doser of a super-automatic machine it's okay to use darker roasts but we advise against using flavored coffee. Flavored coffee often contain added sugar which can gum up the brew unit in the machine.

      One more question. I'm still confused about the aroma or strength button that highlights the beans on the front. I had 5 beams highlighted and the coffee was kind of strong that it upset my stomach. So I lowered it and highlighted two beans...what happens now? Do I get more water in my coffee now which makes it weaker?

    How does this machine compare to krups superautos or to the breville barista in terms of beverage quality? Especially cappuccinos

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Hernan, Here's a side by side Specification comparison of the machines with pricing: www.wholelattelove.com/product_comparisons/show?products%5B%5D=breville-bes870xl-barista-express-in-black&products%5B%5D=gaggia-anima-prestige-super-automatic-espresso-machine&products%5B%5D=krups-barista-ea9000-super-automatic-espresso-machine
      Here are my thoughts...
      The Gaggia and the Krups are super-auto machines. The Gaggia has a milk carafe. Attach it to the machine, push a button and it makes a cappuccino or latte start to finish with the push of a button. When done, put the carafe back in the fridge and it's ready to go for next time. It's quick and easy! The Krups is a little different in that you put milk in a glass place it on the machine and a steam wand extends down into the milk to froth. Then espresso is added to complete the drink. The Breville is completely different in that it's a semi-automatic machine with a built in grinder. Frothing on the Breville is a manual process using a frothing pitcher so more labor intensive. But, with the Breville you have more control over both the espresso and the milk froth. This comes at the expense of convenience but in the end you can make a more refined drink. A good example of this is the froth. Now we recommend a frothed milk temperature of 135-150F for best flavor. But, some people insist on having it hotter. If that's you then you will be disappointed with just about every super-automatic machine. They all froth to the "sweet" temperature range. With the Breville and manual frothing you can make the milk as hot as you want. You'll also have more control over the quality/density of the froth so you can make a super-fine microfoam for a latte or a much airier froth for a cappuccino. Be aware that manual frothing like this does take some user skill. Super-autos do a fine job of producing froth for cappuccino and layered lattes. They do struggle a bit in producing a microfoam appropriate for pouring latte art. Really takes manual frothing and user skill to make finely textured milk. Hope this helps!

    How would you rate the reliability of this particular model (it seems it is a newer model) compared to Jura ENA 9 or Impressa A9?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Sann M. Naing Hi Sann, Gaggia machines have been very reliable over the years. This machine features an updated brew group so should be even better. We like the Jura machines as well. One basic difference between Gaggia and Jura however. Brew groups in Jura machines are not removable for maintenance while Gaggia brew groups are. Not a big deal with Jura machines so long as you keep up with maintenance using the Jura cleaning tablets which are applied through the bypass doser.

    I've read that to change the grind setting the grinder myst be running, however with this machine the grinder will not run if the lid is open. Thoughts?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Rick, Thanks for the question. Although not stated in the manual it's always okay to change grind to a coarser setting without the grinder running. Three options when adjusting finer.
      1. Hold any old magnet near the sensor that the lid would contact if it were closed. Do that and the grinder will run.

    Will it make a regular latte besides latte macchiato ?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi AC, Thanks for the question. Most Italian machines do not put "latte" on the menu. If they do, it's just for frothed milk. As you may know in Italian latte means "milk". To get a latte (technically a caffe latte) use the latte macchiato. When complete, stir gently to combine the lower milk layer with the espresso layer in the middle and you have a standard latte!

      Very similar machines in capabilities and functions. A couple of key differences: Price with the Gaggia Anima Prestige typically available for about $200 less. Other is the bean switcher on the Saeco which shuts of bean flow making it easier to switch out beans.

      I talked with our tech support. This is an occasional issue with super-automatic machines. Here in the US we are supplying a free "boiler valve" replacement part which solves the problem. It's fairly easy for the edn user to replace. I would have your dealer contact Gaggia for the part. The boiler valve is behind the removable brew group in the machine. It's held in by 4 screws with 2mm allen heads. When you remove the brew group it's the part with 2 red rubber rings. Here's a link to the Anima Parts Diagram: wiki.wholelattelove.com/images/1/10/ANIMA_Parts_Diagram.pdf
      The part you need is in Table 5/6 of the linked pdf file at POS1 in the parts list it's "BLK PIN FOR BOILER VALVE 4BAR ASSY."
      Hope that helps!

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Miguel Rosa With milk from the fridge we measured milk froth in the 140F range which is what we recommend for best milk flavor. When combined with espresso you can expect overall capp temp to be in 150-160 range. Here's a video in which we discuss milk temps and flavors: th-cam.com/video/KdfCBMobz_M/w-d-xo.html

      I love drinking coffees hot (like burning tongue hot) and the cappuccino temp was not hot at all. I had the highest (hottest) setting. I'd say the drink temp was warm but it seems like they're meant to be tolerable to drink once said and done.

    I’ve got a gaggia anima prestige (few months old) and I’ve noticed that I can no longer get the spout to stay high without holding it (keeps sliding back down to lowest position). Has anyone else encountered this problem? (I can’t seem to find anyone with the same experience online) Is there a way to fix it? (I know it is only aesthetic and doesn’t actually affect functionality)
    Any input will be appreciated.

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi AM, Thanks for the question and wow... your timing. No kidding I was shooting videos right about the time you left your comment on how to fix the issue. Video is not posted yet but here is the quick fix (this and a more involved fix will be demonstrated in the video):
      Pull the spout down. With a firm grip and sharp forceful motion pull down on the spout to basically yank it free of the machine. With the spout out you will see 2 tabs at the top on either side of the spout. There are black rubber rings around the top of the tabs. Using pliers or similar gently bend each tab toward the center of the spout assembly. Be gentle and don't bend too far as that could break the tab. You just want to bend to slightly decrease the distance between the tabs so they create more friction. Once bent, re-insert the spout into the machine. Make sure the track lines up when re-inserting. You may need to use a little force to push the spouts back up. If after you re-insert the spouts slide repeat the process and bend the tabs in a little more. That should do the trick. Hope that helps!

    Great video. Can this machine make a regular cup of coffee?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mike, It technically makes a long coffee. It uses the espresso brewing process in which water is forced through finely ground coffee. In Italy, that is a regular coffee. To compare, most would say a Keurig machine makes a regular cup of coffee. Keurigs also use a form of the espresso process forcing water through pre-ground coffee in a plastic cup. Coffee made from fresh ground beans blows away that made from pre-ground!

    The problem I can see with this machine is that it only makes 11 grams single shots. I like my lattes with a double shot espresso ~17 grams and this would not work for my taste
    unless you just run an extra shot inside your drink but that defeats the purpose of super automatic.
    Is there a machine similar to this that will give you a double and single shot and you can choose between them?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi im, Thanks for the question. Yes there is! Check out the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige or Cadorna Milk. Here's a quick video on those machines: th-cam.com/video/jrAQQdug3Sc/w-d-xo.html In the video I cover 5 features of the machines. Feature #5 highlights how these machines will make a flat white (basically a standard latte) with a double shot. Machine uses 2 grind cycles to make the flat white so depending on your coffee strength setting you could go up to a true triple shot in a milk based espresso beverage. Also does the milk espresso prep order the right way with espresso first then milk but can flip that prep for macchiatos. Also does true Americanos! Check out the Cadorna Prestige here: www.wholelattelove.com/products/gaggia-cadorna-prestige
      Hope that helps!

    Can you make a Filter coffee with this machine?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi ZA, Thanks for the question. Technically the higher volume coffees made by this machine are considered "long coffee". Espresso machines like this one use a finer grind than what you typically use for filter coffee. They also use pressurized brewing that's not part of making filter coffee. That said, I use this machine and similar to make long coffee and came from decades of drinking filter coffee. For filter coffee drinkers looking to take a step up in quality and convenience this machine can work. Many (myself included) coming from filter coffee find they love Americanos. It's simply espresso brewed normally then hot water added. You can do that in two steps with the Anima. Or, the Gaggia Cadorna models can do it in one step. I use the Cadorna in the studio for 2 Americanos everyday. The Cadornas feature and updated and power color display. If interested check out this video featuring the Cadorna machines: th-cam.com/video/dVQTikx5Ypc/w-d-xo.html
