- So... back when quests were a thing, you all might remember that we we given a bunch of choices that never really seemed to lead to anything. Well, here's a theory on both what they represent as well as what all of it will lead to in the end. Maybe you knew this stuff, maybe you didn't but I wanted to put my thoughts out regarding all those choices...

I know some of you are gonna be like... WTF is he talking about here but I gotta tell you, this was one of the most fun videos I've had the chance to make. These are all just theories mind you, but... This is one of my favorites, one that actually spawned from discussion with you all in the comments!
Cant really call this a theory, its really spot on... kina inspired me to play back the quests back to back
If you haven't played the quests in a while I HIGHLY recommend it. They all look different with the visual refresh and there are certain little things that REALLY stand out now. The new shadow rell is really well done...
Who does the voice, “hey kiddo” belong to? Perhaps a piece of our selves that we fear has been cast out of our mind and is now roaming about, trying to return

I honestly prefer corpus over grineer for one reason when you support them they ask sort of nicely but the grineer just demand you help them or die

@@LordRixuel I kind of think the Grineer are just enacting their revenge from their time as the lowest slaves of the Orokin and its no better than how the Corpus keep that old sin going as they stuff themselves with riches like the Orokin and trod on fellow humans and profit over conflict.
So I can't fault the Grineer because most of them have been brainwashed by their hatred while most of the Corpus are self serving and fully aware of their actions.
But Steel Meridian's great though, they manage to do a lot for just about everyone and I think their's is the true strength of the Grineer.
So glad I choose almost all neutral *expect I let Teshin kill the queen because I felt like it*

Yeah I'm also neutral, but I did make some light and some dark choices. One of the dark choices I made was also letting Teshin kill her. I felt like he suffered long enough under her and deserved his revenge.
This is an amazing theory and would benefit the game in so many ways. Imagine the amount of veterans returning if this actually became a thing. Fighting a villain that we created based on our own decisions... Your videos just keep getting better and better!

Probably gonna have to grind 10 tenno relics to get the control orbs, so we know the 5 slot combination to take out our tenno, yaaaay sounds like fun!

HEY DUDE! Somebody came into my Discord today telling me about your video. Unfortunately, I have never played Warframe, but I watched through your whole video!
As you will see... the more you investigate Jung, the more you see his theories apply to the world around us. Here, you not only see Jung's archetype of shadow, but you also see his theory on the necessity of opposites. Warframe seems to have a psychological sophisticated morality mechanic... maybe I should investigate it more.

I’ve been choosing with how I personally felt during the quest and letting my emotions decide my choice. My dial is almost completely shadow now and I’m starting to realize that maybe it is already too late for my space boy.
Guess you'll have to spare The Lotus/Natah to try to make up for it. Or you could go full dark and deal with the consequences.
I went full shadow, deciding ruthless pragmatism was more fitting for my character and being willing to live with the potential consequences. If this does actually have an effect on gameplay or lore, I do think they should give us the opportunity to change our choices however. From a lore perspective it doesn't make sense but this type of game doesn't fit a permanent consequence like this.
the dark and light aren't good and evil, it's yin and yang. Your space boy just needs to find a counter balance :)

Lore was the only thing keeping me playing destiny 1. When destiny 2 came out I came to Warframe and couldn't have been happier. There is so much lore to search for just like a Fromsoft game! (My favorite is Bloodborne) and yes I've played every game up to sekiro lol.

My choice thing is almost all grey with 1-3 light/dark and my "Man in the wall" my void demon almost every time pops around corners but usually saying "Hey kiddo." and nothing else as if shy but has built up the courage to say hello.
Weird my “man in the wall” had a full on conversation with my operator I think I remember it went like this:
“Did you kill isaah”
“No”
“Did umbra kill isaah”
“No, we did”
I feel so good about my tenno being a filthy centrist now lmfao

Malcolm Low I think the man in the wall is a representation of the void that the tenno created in there mind to cope with there reality of there situation and that over time it grew a mind of its own and started trying to guide the tenno to there most powerful self. Just think if you chose the moon choices in TWW the tenno recalls a time there dad called them kiddo. The man in the wall that appears on our ship calls us kiddo all the time. Our tenno created the man in the wall and then over time we gave it a form. It’s almost like the man in the wall is a parental figure.
Its even said that the tenno are “blessed by the void” and Onkoo even said “the void seems to love you”.
@@MykeThaOrphan0209 I know it sounds stupid, but I still believe that our "dad" got absorbed by the void as being a conduit to our minds and to become its "personafication" (since we don't ever really know if our father was also killed in the Zariman, in fact, we don't know much of him at all) and that's why he always talks to us as "Kiddo"

The light (sun path) is passionate - emotional, with less logic. The middle path: a mixture of emotion and logic ... Neutral. The dark moons path (moon), Logic over emotion. This concept made more sense to me, than morality.
The vengeance choice with umbra in the sacrifice, and a choice from the war within kind of counter this though.
Me: *sitting near neutral with a tilt towards sun*
Me: "Yeah, I'll take that. That's fair. #relatable"

I have never noticed it in mission (probably because I am too busy slashing away), but when I played the Sacrifice (first time btw), I had that weird thing on my operator... even though I have chosen neutral for everything. I also thought it was a video glitch.

The recent devsteam showed a clip that shows their "Work from Home" staff and interestingly provided an audio voice character from Neewa. So i guess Neewa will come back somewhere in Warframe universe possibly thru a quest. 🤔

Igotta say, my take on this one is veeery similar to this one, ad is something that has always been bugging me too...
As a Star Wars The Old Republic player too, i've been constitantly "challenged" in wich i would want to follow, either the ligth or the dark side of things, and as a person that I myself want to believe I am, I always cling to ligth, something i also started to do when the meter fist appeared in the quests, but my take on this, is sligthly different... What I gather from this is, if you tryllu follow your own principles instead of seing if it will give you euther ligth or dark side affinity, you will always find your self in the said shadow, the ballence between light and dark. Think about it, if you start with folloing compassion and kindness from every dialogue without looking at the metter, you'll start by following the light (or either, the sun), but progressing throw the story, and once again, following your filosophy and not looking at the metter, you'll actually start to also kling to the dark side even if you're choosing kindness and compassion. The same will happen if you choose the start by being the edge lord, you start by going full dark (or moon), and evetually, even though you're clinging to "dark emotions", you'll also start to cling to the ballance. Etiehr way you choose, the only one that's actually keeping itself the same with options and metter, is the ballance. My take on this, is to make us realise that (once again, make sure the metter doesn't exist when your choosing your answers) the way it is suppoused to be, is ballance, not light, nor dark, since we all have both of them in ourselves.
Just a little side track on this one, how the hack does the Helmith knows wich path we're taking??? (if you don't know what i'm talking about, open the helminth door with nidus, that use transference and get your tenno inside that room, the Helmith will say stgs about not understanding how you're awake, but will also tell you if your walking on the light, the dark or in between them. Also find it interesting the fact he also calls us "demons").
If DE does follow through on your theories then we could potentially see this as a game mechanic similar to the Kuva Lich except that your void demon hunts the player instead of you hunting it if your choices lean more toward the sun side of things. If you're neutral then your interactions with the void demon may turn it hostile or friendly for a particular mission, and if you're more on the moon side then your void demon could repress some one of your operator abilities for a mission? Man that sounds annoying at face value actually.

I had noticed that, when my gf played the sacrifice and met with Umbra, her image was distorted. Which I found weird because it didn't happen at all when I played it. So it turns out that it's because I'm perfectly balanced (yeah, I know, as all things should be, I said it) while she was going towards the sun a little. That explains a lot, thanks.

then I had my choices done as I am in real life being on verge of balance but tipped to the dark side "the moon" and now thinking about it everything makes sense not only in warframe but in life too

Also the ghosty boy in your mission has never happened to me ever, I do see the guy in my ship sometimes but it's extremely rare

I picked neutral and he still shows up occasionally. I didn't even realize it was the man in the wall. I Thought warframe was just being buggy lol.

He can show up on the reliquary on the railjack. First time he spooked me in YEARS

I've actually had an interesting experianc.e. Starting out as mostly Sun (with the sole exception of letting Teshin lopping queenie's head off.) Then with Glast gambet being 'waaitaminute that's her choice, not ours.' And on and on sliding further into balance. Not always pickign the moon option, but seeing 'sun' as being willfully blind to the way thigns are and wanting to impose 'our' will on the situation.
That said? My choice to Ballas was to tell him the cycle was Broken. because He cannot hurt us anymore. We have moved past his moving us about like a Go stone, and he can't enslave others to do his dirty work.
Aaand then eh got all sentientified.

I really do believe that our choices will have an effect on how we INTERACT with the man in the wall. But your theory that it will actually change the Man does seem plausible

I devoured the darkness to become stronger myself, I am one of the "moon people"... I didn't expect that this theory would make me believe that I made a mistake but in the long run it does feel like that. This doesn't mean anything negative though, I will see the end of my path and enjoy what's there for me in the future!

Yo back when I was doing all the quests and I made my decisions I looked for the most complete way to deal with the situation at hand witch to me was neutral and I don’t see any void ghost or anything and I rarely see the man in the wall in my shop either maby by picking that choice stops the demon from even manifesting
Check through the comments of this video and I think you'll see that it might be the reason. You're definitely not alone.

Well I feel the man in the wall always existed but it’s the things he says that make him a trickster god or a deal maker .........it is chaotic ( in our eyes) but always with an endgame or with purpose..........I always knew that the man reminded me of a beloved cartoon demon bill cypher.......it is the things he said in the war within “ have you for gotten ...you owe me” deal makers are a true evil

I'm thinking of Neewa's quest line here, the Glast Gambit. We could give her back to the colonists, where she would be sacrificed to allow everyone to live with the infested. We could let her choose. Or we could just save her. Although it's their way of life, it doesn't sit easy with me that a whole society would groom a child to be a sacrifice, especially when that sacrifice is so they can live with the infested. Do they really have to? They survived an infested attack, but there should have come a point where the society decided it would have been better to leave, and make plan for it. Instead they got complacent, and just kept a cycle of sacrifice going, passing a death sentence from kid to kid. I couldn't let her go back.
I could give her the choice, but she has the weight of an entire people on her mind. When they've raised her to be this, and nothing but this. Saviour, they'd call her, at least it's not me they'd think to themselves. She is not in a state of mind to be able to choose, she's too young and doesn't know everything. She never asked to be the Triuna. It's unfair to give that choice to a child. I made it for her. I had her cured. I was put in the position of being able to make the change, with as little consequence to Neewa as possible and the Myconian colony will just have to adapt. Perhaps think about finally moving away from an infested ridden home. They have the support they need from the Tenno for that, if it's a matter of credits, I'll go rob (I mean play) the index a few times. And I get that there is a culture there, that could be lost, but they didn't always live with the infested, who were they before that? What was lost then? What could be regained? Is it possible they could live without condemning an innocent? Yes, yes it is.
I went full light with my choices, to see what would happen against a friend who has gone half and half. Kind, but vengeful. Thinking about it, that's kinda me in a nutshell. And if that means I'll have an annoyed shadow coming after me at the end of it, then all I can say is bring it.

I'm really enjoying these type of videos, often what I usually hear while playing is about rivens, cheesy builds and complaints. It's nice to follow a channel that can step back and look at the grander scheme and nuances of the tenno story
That's all you're gonna get here... Well that, some opinion videos if I feel strongly about a thing or funny stuff. Builds, what's best in the game, I couldn't even tell you...
I dont even care about the game to this level but holy damn your voice, the topics, the depth and the concepts are just amazing. Especially in this video, the concept really is captivating as the psychology and morale of the Tenno is interesting.

Eventually I'm going to do each of the quests so keep your eyes out for that. I don't think enough people get what's going on the game, so you're certainly not alone.
i absolutely LOVE videos like this. i love it when game devs take real-world psychology stuff and integrate it into a game so smoothly. I'm no psych major, but i do hold quite a bit of interest in what makes people tick!
ill be honest with you, at the end it felt almost as if you were talking about in game as well as irl. it was crazy, because i could see myself in all the situations, what my life could have been or will possibly end up being, and it put me through some deep thought, and kinda scared me a bit. the good kinda scare though, the "hey your on the edge, dont keep walking forward" kind. or in another way of putting it, a "come to jesus" moment
Of all your videos I think this one is the best one yet. I think the entire Warframe community is curious about “The Man in the Wall”. I think you actually nailed it with this theory. It also makes a lot of sense. I mean think about what the void really does to people. It basically brings out their desires. When you play through the game and read the content related to the void I think a constant theme is that it bends to the will of the person interacting with it. I also, loved your talk about “The Shadow”. This video was great so far as game discussion but also personal growth as well. Thanks.

This analysis mostly jibes with my conclusions when I first encountered the choices and the evolving plot...but it was the mention of Raziel that really made me smile.

I'm glad someone thought to bring this to light. Ballas said "We believed everything to be of two parts". Reaching into eastern philosophy, yin and yang have to be equal to bring balance to the world...something the Lotus reminds you you need to do while invasions are active for example. This philosophy is throughout the entire story and I love it. It goes really well with the ninja vibe.
this theory is very believable, especially after your ordis video last week where you discusses his shadow form, his former self. again a pretty good video! why do you have so little subs? your videos have good content, are well structured and your voice is easy to listen to.
Because I'm not a very good youtuber. I just like to make videos, you know? I don't ask for subs or likes cause I want people to want to sub, not feel like they SHOULD cause I'd like them too, which is a terrible way to TH-cam. So, I'll probably never have a huge sub count. But... if the people that do sub like what I do, that's all that really matters. Also, I'm bad with schedules and my video editing skill are average at best. I'd say that has a lot to do with it too. Maybe more than the first thing, I don't know, lol...

For me my alignment is in the middle with little bit of the moon because for me I picture myself in the tenno place when it comes the those sun,neutral,moon choices

Max is fantastic at summarizing deep psychological themes and academic opinions on the topics. He is such an underrated creator, has a gentle and inoffensive voice and speaking manner and occasionally a dry sense of humour. I'd love to see him tackle some of the more psychological parts of Warframes story missions someday.

This is so interesting, I really enjoyed this and I hope you are correct. I love carl jung's shadow concept. I actually have complete neutral alignment in warframe though I picked those before I learned about the shadow concept and till watching your video didn't even make the connection. I just found your channel a few days ago and have been binging on it. I'm a founder in warframe but I play off and on with sometimes years in between. Watching your videos, and getting a deep dive into the lore/overall story has breathed new life and appreciation of warframe for me. Thank you for that.
Edit: also I wanted to say I hardly ever see the man on the wall. I mean extremely rare and was surprised you see that shadow with you. I never seen that. I wonder if that is due to alignment?

I choose the darkside because i vision myself in the tenno, instead of just shrugging everything off, i instead come into acceptance. Like with the Kuva, i consumed it.
You gotta be you, right? Understand that... any choices made were made way before the questions were even asked, because you set a precedent for your character and nothing can or should change that. I'm just helping you understand the choices, nothing more.

This is one of the reason why I love the game - it gives each player enough pieces to form their own version and story. It's not linear like most games and (this is just my opinion based on the video) I think the storyline will continue based on the players' interpretations. Maybe DE has other ideas, but I believe there're enough external enemies (grineers, corpus, infested, etc.). What made me appretiate the game in a new way started with the Sacrifice quest. We not only found our character is not a machine, an empty shell, but a strong yet fragile child, who is also filled with internal struggle. And Fears. The Man on the Wall might be just another fear that we need to overcome. But it'll be different based on player's choices and actions. Which makes the game even more intriguing. It makes it very close to reality. Тhe Operator is not just another character, it's a reflection of ourselves. And we struggle, fight and grow with him.
I centered my channel around the lore of this game. That should speak volumes regarding what I think about it.
I always saw the white as heightened passion and decision based more on emotion, whereas the dark is peace of mind and acceptance - a decision based more on logic made in that peace of mind.

I must say this is a interesting video I have always wondered about our decisions but I've never heard of that ghostly operator, I'm neutral so I've never seen one myself but be interesting to see how this plays out
I am very spiritual and these aspects play a major role in my day to day life and my overall outlook on things. Also, during psychedelic experiences I've dealt with what seems to be my own "Man In The Wall" if you will and I'm honestly beginning to feel more and more empowered by the current state my mind is in.

I've just found your video's and I like and agree with a lot of your thoughts. I do support your thoughts in this video and I've come to similar conclusions. I think this is further supported by the only character in the game that is aware of your choices. Go to the helminth room in the orbiter. The character there says interesting things if you park your frame by the door to open the room and enter with your Tenno.
This whole theory is... amazing! At first I always chose the Sun yet there are times where I have picked the Between as I thought it matched more. Realizing that maybe, just maybe, my choices have this much of an outcome makes me comprehend that I’m doing more harm to my Tenno then good. Asides from that, this is really good of a theory on what could be happening; and maybe it is time I don’t fear balancing out the Sun and Moon... the shadow and the demon we’d create.
