Tip during taper week: I try to remind myself that running is a privilege. Several people don’t make it to the starting line healthy. Treat any race like a party/celebration
I know right. Other than the different colour outsole the other way of telling them apart is the gradient of the plate being sloped on the edge's ff turbo black and yellow sticker on the front of the midsole vs the sky which isn't sloped.
I tried both the Edge Paris and the Sky Paris at my local running shoe store. I went with the Sky Paris. Apparently, that was the right choice because it got me to a BQ two Sunday's ago.
Great review, thank you. My cousin is in Japan and is bringing me back the Edge and Sky. I'll have less than a week to decide what to use, before the London marathon! Good luck with your marathon on Sunday 🙌🏽
I ran a recent marathon in the Edge Paris - loved it, similar time to my previous marathon in the VF3. Edge had a bit more protection up front. Still looks like new - I think they may be more durable than they look.
My best race week tip is to make a list of everything you need to take with you on race day. Have everything on that list laid out the day before with the list sitting next to the laid out items (I set mine pile of stuff on our kitchen counter). This has helped reduce my anxiety over a race because I can wake up, go through my normal routine, and get ready without thinking of what needs to be taken to the start line.
Thanks for the insight, useful and relatable for me having some of the shoes. Noted the narrow heal in the ASICS….Enjoying the content - this is your best to date, excellent overview of the super shoes and nailed it. 👌 I have the Hoka RX2, I’d be interested in where you would sit it in the mix…
@@supwellno prob man, just happy you got to try the shoe! Hope you can get your hands on a pair of 11s 🙏 and thanks a bunch for the shoutout! Very cool of you 🤙🙂
Love how you lined up all the shoes to categorise into aggressiveness vs stability! Very helpful.🙏🏼 I’m going to try on some super shoes this weekend / might buy one. I’m a current adizero sl user looking to try out plated running shoe. Eyeing off adios pro 3 and Saucony pro 4, but a lot will come down to the best fitting shoe for me
as a forefoot to midfootstriker, I much preferred the feel of the sky. I increase both my stride length and cadence as I speed up, but when I ran in the edge with the rocker, I felt like my toes were right on the ground and it felt very unstable landing on the forefoot. I went with the sky and felt much more supported on landing.
Night before race, pizza. I don’t know. I cannot explain it but once I ate some pizza before a night before a race thinking it might be a bad move but oh well, and I felt great race day. I tried it again and I did what I wanted to do again. Now I’m just convinced it’s a law, I have to have pizza day before race.
I have a question. I struggle to find a shoe that equals or even comes close to the nike vaporfly next% version 1. Did you ever run in them? And if yes which of the sky series would you pair them closest to? Thank you.
@markoljustina i run in them. They are not the same. In fact i would say they are very different. I currently use the pro 3s for workouts. Race 5ks and 10k in vaporfly but the next 2 and 3 just not the same. There is a noticeable difference. The foam was different wasnt like squishy. And then the next 2 bit firmer. Not as propulsive. Whatver they have done i dont know. But iv been searching. Endorphin pro 4 is squishy mess. Returned after one run.
@@PDARUNS you have to accept that you will never find them; i remember when i try VF2 when i still have VF1, they feel firmer; but now they feel soft to me; i buy them after AP3 and EP3
@markoljustina fair enough. Oh yes its accepted i have to move on with the times. Endorphin pro 3 just dont feel like a race day shoe to me like when you put on a fresh pair of vf1. Liked the vp2 for track work sessions etc. Anyways. Just wondering to get one of the sky series since i train in the novablast 3. So thinking maybe be a good move. But edge or sky
Been waiting for this one. I can’t justify having both the Edge and Paris. Based on a short try on in store, I chose the Sky Paris for a sub 3 marathon attempt. The Edge Paris’ more aggressive rocker felt like a better option for shorter distance races for me. Curious if you feel the same, looking forward to your detailed comparison.
Race week tip: Calmness comes with experience, no way to force it. Only when you have shown to yourself that your daily condition does not matter and that you ALWAYS have it in you, only then can you let go of thinking about it all the time and actually getting some rest. Then you realize what it means to believe in and rely on your training. The race begun a long time ago and it's almost over, raceday is just the victory lap.
Definitely 0.5 size up. I tried both Sky Paris and Edge Paris briefly jogging in a local ASICS event right before general release and to luck the only pair available was US 0.5 size up from my usual size and I thought it was the right size for me. I liked the fit of Edge more with a bit more midfoot width. I also liked the pop I was getting and the rocker was much more functional than the Sky. Personally, I found Edge is more comfortable. I think out of all these shoes Endorphin Pro 3/4 are the most decent value at $225 and ASICS is now offering a great super shoe by keeping the price at $250. Nike increased the price of VF3 by $10-20 in the last year. In fact, you can find Endorphin Pro 3 as low as $160-170. During the last marathon expo, the sellers had various sizes at that price. Amazon also has Endorphin Pro 3 at lower prices. I bought green colorway as few months ago as low as $145 (my second pair). Even if one doesn't race they make good training shoe.
Will add that one to the list for later in the spring/summer! But from what I know about the shoe it's been described as on the softer and less aggressive side, more similar to the pro 4 and sc elite v4 than Vaporfly and Metaspeed Paris shoes
Love your videos man! I’m a slower runner and the Endorphin Pro 4 looks the best for me after all your analysis. I have a burning question though….WHAT SHOE ARE YOU GOING TO RUN IN? Haha! Get excited for your race. Be grateful, trust your process and when you get to that starting line be present in the moment. You’re ready and the training will get you those results. Have fun!
I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on the Edge vs. Sky because they're basically the same shoe except for plate placement. Most of the big brands are doing something similar; they just aren't framing it the way Asics does. Adidas AP3/Evo 1; Saucony Pro 4/Elite; Nike Vaporfly/Alphafly, Hoka Cielo X1/Rocket X2. This could also affect the experience in the plated trainers. When you get to your marathon, you're going to have 9,000 guys and girls rooting for you. I do like the Paris colorway. I got the Superblast in that color.
Half Marathon distance, 3 x 5k at MP warm up mile, rolling recovery and lightly jog it out... Im nowhere near as fast, just gives me confidence in the foundation..

I have a plethora-nay, a veritable myriad-of last sharpening quality sessions for race week. Mainly because I’ve gotten bored with the usual 3*mile or 5*1000 or whatever. All of my race week tuneups add up to 5000 meters. It might be my new favorite racer for half marathons and under. I could take it for a marathon, but I think I’d rather go AlphaFly 3 or Endorphin Elite for that distance.
My tried and tested taper routine for a marathon or longer race: 3 weeks at 80%, 60% and 35% volume. Schedule remains the same, but workouts get significantly smaller: you can’t build additional fitness anymore, so it’s maintenance. Long runs go down to 23 km with less than 10 km tempo work (2 weeks out) and 16-18 km with 4-6 km tempo work (1 week out). Small speed workout in first taper week (about 50% volume, shorter sets) and even smaller in second taper week. Just some pickups with 2 x 1 km tempo in the final week. Biggest challenge for me is cutting down on the eating during the last two weeks 😂
Me when you brought out the marker : Noooooooooooooo *slowmo I like that you went for it though and did the big letters. Also, that marathon shoe rundown was great. Maybe should be a separate video for non subscribers to find💯
Fellow Dukie, My final speed workout before my '86 Oly Trials bid was 3 days prior = 5 x 2 min at c. 5k pace with a 1 min jog on dirt. Obviously, science has advanced much since then. If I was to do it now, I'd go 4 days before the race and tone it down some, like on grass 1 x mile at goal race pace; equal time jog; 4 x 200m at 3k to 5k pace with 200j. Just enough to maintain form and turnover a bit without taking a chance on any soreness or leg fatigue. Really nothing you do the last two weeks will enhance your fitness (other than raw speed, which doesn't really matter for a marathon); you're just trying to rest and keep an edge on. Best wishes!
Sorry if I didn't mention this but Pro 4 and SC Elite v4 are both great options for midfoot and heel strikers. I'm an aggressive heel striker at 6:50 mile pace and slower and love the endorphin pro 4 for that pace range
