  • 555 timers are one of the most popular and versatile ICs on the market. In the previous lesson, we learned how 555 timers get used in circuits. There are three main types of circuits in which they are used, monostable, bistable, and astable. Astable circuits are likely the most common use for 555 timers. In this episode, Karen shows how to create an astable circuit using a 555 timer. Follow along as she uses resistors and capacitors to create an RC circuit to affect the timing of the circuit. Karen’s final circuit uses a 4-position DIP switch to allow for the use of 4 different resistors and therefore 4 speeds to control the flashing of LEDs. While Karen uses this circuit to create flashing lights on a headband and a hat, the uses are endless. Try your hand at making the circuit and use it to make art, on decorations, or create warning lights. Come up with other ideas for how to use this circuit and post them in the comments below! bit.ly/2SOLFI0

Im 66 years old retired living in Venezuela, and ultra fascinated doing my first steps discovering throught your videos the "world of electrónica". So far, I'm learning the basics elements of a circuit, hope no far in time do an small proyect. Many thanks

O geeze lmao! I'm so used to working with trimpot's that i never thought of using a rotary switch with many outputs as an acurate resistance switch! I'm gunna build that lmao! Thnx. 😎👍🏻👍🏻

    Hey mam thanks a lot
I have always found electronics as a difficult subject
but your teaching techniques are very simple and interesting

Great video and I really like these modification videos. One minor "toe may toe" vs. "toe mah toe" issue: I prefer to call the 555 "the five fifty five". - I'm old school. "Let's solder it up!" Needs to be in every project video moving forward. :)

My friend adds CD4017B to this schematic. CD4017B sends signal on its leg one after another from the first leg to the last. This way led blink one by one. Can microcontrollers do better? Sorry to ask you a question abouti microcontrollers while you have tought NE555.

What about building a stereo amplifier using 1x NE555 as a master clock and 1x NE556 and 2x TL030 OP-Amps for the error amplifiers that feed the CV pins of the NE556 and 2x BD131 power transistors for the output transistors, the audio channels connect to the non inverting inputs on the TL030 OP-Amps the output going to the CV pins on the NE556 the output feeds back to the inverting side of the TL030 via a LP filter the output from the NE556 will drive the output transistors that drive the speakers, if you don't know what I am getting at then google NE556 audio amplifier.

I also made a flashing led circuit using the 555. On my channel. The coolest way i like to doit is with npn transistors. Lol that is cool! Luckily i have those switches to. Really cool video! ❤😎👍🏻

Hey element14! I love your channel! Awesome video! I was really excited for this video! Can u guys do the op amp chips next and op amps. Like the 386 n 1458 n 741. That would be awesome! ❤❤❤😎😎😎

How can this circuit be modified so that the lights pulse or fade in/fade out as opposed to just on/off blinking?

Reckon it might be small enough to wire into the end of a dragon staff, and you can see that by searching @lostlighting on insta. Good pix! He uses ws2812b lighting strips, but I just use dumb leds. There's a whole spinny world of lighting out there...
