I have been dealing with this issue for 2+ years and your video mentioned the exact symptoms and to change out the sensor. That did the trick. I changed out the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (it is so easy on the ’05 5.3L engine), waited till 3:30pm in NC for the outside temperatures to reach 90+° F and took a test drive. Once the coolant reached 200° and I drove for a few miles, the AC output stayed cool, and the computer did not shut off the compressor nor did it turn up the radiator fans to max. More testing to come to ensure full malfunction issues are gone. Thank you so much for your video!

wow this video sucks!!! ive replaced temp sensor and thermostat cleared codes and it works for 20 secs the the po118 code pops back up and the temp gauge drops back to 160
So why does the video suck sir? Do you have any air pockets in cooling system due to losing fluids? Did you bleed the air out of the system afterwards? Sorry about the inconvenience caused by this situation . This video has helped a lot of people. It’s possible that the sensor is faulty from the auto parts store? What brand of sensor did you purchase? Is the plug all the way secure and seated ? Did you put electrical grease in the connection? Are the pins not damaged? There’s a lot of variables that can affect everything sir.
This video sucks apparently because our boy Andy Olsen has no troubleshooting ability and feels ripped off that a free TH-cam video did not solve his problems that would otherwise cost him $100-$200 per hour for a highly skilled and certified shop to diagnose. What a rip off huh!? Your video is helpful, I have one that is very intermittent right now and I am unable to duplicate to find root cause so knowing what others are doing will help me give customers options. 1. Pay me to continue to attempt to get this issue to happen while I am checking it to pinpoint the several inputs that could cause the concern. Or 2. Replace what a lot of others are replacing and if it fixes it, I save him the diag time and if it doesn't at least he doesn't pay me to spend a bunch of time re inventing the wheel on a potential known issue. Thanks and see clowns like this guy for what they are.

I changed the sensor and after 1 day the problem is back 💔. And i see some people in the comment changes the thermostats and still have the same problem. Is there any advice (i reset the code)
What did you end your finding?

Had this issue with the fans staying on, but I also have to replace the smaller a/c line. Replaced the sensor, and thermostat, the fans still kicked on right away.
Did u ever figure out the issue.
@@wyatgann445 Yes, after I installed the thermostat and heat sensor, I only turned it on for a few seconds, thought it would work right away. I decided to take it for a drive half mile down the road everything kicked in and temperature kicked up to where it should.
Glad it worked out
Unfortunately, I replaced the sensor and thermostat, and now the temperature is high, and there is pressure in the radiator hose, and the fan is spinning slowly.7:11

How do you clear the code
Unhook battery or scan tool
I have a 2014 Silverado with 4.3..same issue with fan going to high speed.. replaced sensor reset computer was good for about 2 wks.. doing it again so aggravating if I disconnect battery for few minutes it will work right for a while then go back haven't found anything yet 🤬
Need to try resetting code with hand held computer
I have all these issues, my ac is not working. I replaced the sensor, my temp gauge started working again, the fan is not running continuously. How ever my ac is still not as cold as before. My check engine light never came on. What can I do next?
The condenser in these models were defective. I had to replace mine.

Okay, changed the temperature switch with a Delphi, also new thermostat housing. Disconnected battery for 15 minutes. Test drove turn on heater to burp cooling system..4.3 runs at 205°..the AC is off... no engine codes..Fans are still roaring anybody have any other ideas? computer reflash to fix ?
What all did you replace?
I'm also going through the same thing on my 16 Silverado
Well sir this should resolve your issue with your Silverado as well! Thanks again for your time and support today
Please help as I'm still paying for it
Unfortunate that is happening! Thanks for watching, please subscribe
I have a feeling these trucks have an grounding cable issue
Recalled in 2016 for that issue
@@jginnovationgaragellc mine is a 2018.. I replaced both thermostat and temperature sensor.. as soon as I unplug the battery, plug it back in everything works fine.. could be a week, could be an hour.
@@jginnovationgaragellc I noticed if I turn my radio on after it's been reset, it will come on shortly after that. The longer I go without using something electrical in the truck the longer it works
@@timleineke1997 screens have a recall as well module goes bad
Thank you
Thanks for watching and glad it helped you!
Hopefully you will subscribe and stick around!
I changed both and the fan is still running what can I do?
Did you reset the codes ?
No I don't have that machine I did take off the battery cable .. it went off now hopefully it doesn't come back on ... thanks for the video!! And especially responding
Clearing code then driving it will let the pcm re learn everything
How do you reset the codes?
Have replaced thermostat and sensor and the fans still stay on, also replaced the fan relay 40 amp fuses.
Try the ambient temp sensor, it's a small sensor that is located by the grill (inside the grill)

What did it end up being? I have the same situation
Had it in a shop 3 times and to the tune of almost 2grand
That’s unfortunate youre still having issues!

It’s your thermostat temp sensor! And buy AC Delco.
Thank you for your reply. Yes sir it was my temperature sensor which fixes it 98% of the time but it’s always good preventative maintenance to change the thermostat as well , because already there. And parts don’t really matter much unless you get them
From dealership because there’s 2 types of AC Delco , part house line ((autozone ect ) and dealership line .. ask me how I know ! Put ACDelco wheel bearing assembly from
autozone AC Delco 3 times on my other vehicle lasted 60 days max ! Went to dealership bought AC Delco from dealership same part just one number different. No issues at all have lifetime warranty and labor warranty.
Same bearings assembly at autozone $98 each ac Delco but same part at dealership $389 each just last number was X
So thank you sir have a blessed day
I just unplug my battery. Happened about 3-4 times now
Still ?
@ yea happened this morning which is why I’m back on this video. Just uplogged the battery and plugged it back in. Worked fine. Truck is starting to act funny when we get cold weather spurts here in Florida
@ codes ?
It's probably low tire pressure
Thanks for watching, please subscribe
If it’s not the sensor it probably is the thermostat
Agreed , This may be the case so since your already there, might as well just replace both .
Thanks for your input and feedback , hit that subscribe button please thanks again
Same… sensor and thermostat replaced. No effect. wasted $100 so far
$100! You got robbed btw no where that much for those parts
I replaced my sensor 2 weeks ago and it's doing it again
Thermostat ? Or gauge sensor? Did you clear codes ? Is there an air pocket in your cooling system?
@JG Innovation Garage LLC changed the sensor and it worked fine for 2 weeks gauge didn't show any overheating. Shut the truck off and the fans kept running with the gauge stuck at 160. No check engine light or codes
@@codyfolsom365 thermostat stuck open ?
@@jginnovationgaragellc hadn't checked
@@jginnovationgaragellc it was running about 180 when the gauge stopped working
My sensor was a 20mm

Thermostat
And or sensor
Bleed down ac
Not sure if I follow? Thanks for sharing and watching, please subscribe
wow this video sucks!!! ive replaced temp sensor and thermostat cleared codes and it works for 20 secs the the po118 code pops back up and the temp gauge drops back to 160
So why does the video suck sir?
@@paulkelley86 thank you for your reply and input. It’s fairly easy issue with these trucks have fixed about 3 dozen of them. I will agree dealerships charge $125 per hour for electrical work. I am aware of this as well Master ASE , ICAR , Instructor, Shop Owner and PPG . So to help the masses dyi to help them save their money.
Is helping folks , can’t please them all!
I replaced the sensor and the thermostat, disconnected battery to reset and its still doing the same thing. Any ideas what else?
Ive had 4 mechanics look at it and each says something different
My truck is doing the same thing man, did you ever figured it out? Please help!
@@ricardogomez213 no, I am beyond frustrated with it. I've spent so much $ trying to fix it and nothing has worked.
