I had the same problem. Replaced coolant sensor, thermostat and finally the ambient air temperature sensor behind the front grill. Only $7. Fixed the fans staying on no a/c and flat line temp gauge issues
You replace the sensor to fix the temp gauge in the cluster or if you have a CEL code. I dont know why you replace ambient temp sensor, it has nothing to do with the radiator fan.
After replacing the sensor it was not an immediate fix. After some driving 2 miles or so, it did fix the issue, I figured maybe computer and it needed to take time?
On these type of trucks the thermostat will go bad and then it causes the temp sensor to go bad. That is why the fans kick on as soon as you start the car. If it were just the thermostat (even if stuck open) the high fan would not cone on. The high fan is controlled by the thermostat temp sensor. If the sensor is working right and the thermostat is stuck open the high fan won't come on until the engine begins to overheat. When you are driving in cold weather your engine may never get hot enough to engage the high fans because all of that cold air passing through the fins of the radiator. Throwing parts at a car instead of taking the necessary time to accurately diagnose the problem can and likely will cost you more money and aggravation than doing it the right way.
If you let the engine cool down you can then remove any pressure that's left over by removing either the radiator cap or the coolant system reservoir cap whichever application your vehicle has. When you get a burnt light was on that video you run the risk of contaminating electrical connectors and or causing a short on other electrical items.
Thanks for the video. I have a similar problem but I also have a Check Engine Light too. Could these be related also does it have anything to do with cold weather?
If you replace the fan sensor or the sensor by the Thermostat housing. Unhook your positive cable on your battery. It will reset everything. I didn’t have to replace the thermostat. Went up to right temperature fan stayed off. Turned off truck fan stayed off too. Took the truck for a drive, no overheating issues either.
What if you replaced the bad sensor, the fan no longer blew hard, the gauge went past 160,you drove it for a month with no problems, but suddenly it started again? What could be the issue?
If the fan stays on when car is off, its a bad thermostat. Replace it and clear check engine light. This fan has 2 speeds, low speed and high speed. Low speed on idle and high speed when the car hit temp or with ac on. Either mode doesnt work, check the fan relay, replace the fan if needed. If the coolant temp gauge doesnt work properly, replace the coolant temp sensor with oem sensor. If you replace it with oem sensor and still have same problem, either computer is bad or cluster is bad (wiring issue).
Accept he was wrong. The problem was both the thermostat and the temp sensor. Thermostat went bad which cause the engine to overheat one too many times period as a result the temperature thermostat sensor went bad thereby causing the high fan to always take on as soon as you turn the car on. If it were just a thermostat the high man would not turn on until the engine got too hot. It is the temperature sensor that controls that high fan. FWIW, yes the temp sensor wiring harness is connected to AC compressor and defroster. That's WHY THE HIGH fan kicks on when you turn on the defrost or a/c.

Back on the road, thermostat was probably stuck closed.

i have a 2015 silverado with the V6 and i'm driving the other day and glance down at the temp gauge and the thing is pegged all the way to hot so i kinda freaked and had a mile to go so when i got home i popped the hood and nothing seemed wrong or over heated but the fans were not running and i had no idea the thing had electric fans i thought it ran off a belt like the old days, that's how out of touch i am with cars. so i let the thing cool off for a few hours and ran it again at idle for 30 minutes and nothing happened with the temp gauge, no check engine light and no message on the dic however the fans would only come on for 30 seconds and then shut off , the outside air temp was 30F. i brought the truck to the local garage whom i trust and they found nothing wrong and to keep an eye on it but i hope the thing doesn't leave me flat some day.

What of the cel is not on but the gauge was not ready and the fans were staying on?? I changed the thermostat, thermostat sensor. But the gauge still isn't working and the fans are staying on after I turn off the truck. Should I disconnect the battery? It might reset?
@@edwindelrio1254 If you replace both parts with oem already, then clear the cel before starting again. Fans running, could be the coolant system is not completely bleed air out. Could be clog somewhere in the coolant system thats not allowing coolant to circulate. Not enough coolant. Thermostat is not opening. The gauge is not working, coud be defected thermostat sensor not reading right. No power and ground going into the sensor (check for broken wires or damge connector). You must replace the parts with oem, aftermarket parts could be defecteive and pull the fans fuses out to see if it reset itself.
A fan pulls the atmospheric air in that's why in the heat of summer, in traffic jams you will see cars overheating. You have to have atmospheric air for the motor to turn. Air, water, and fuel.
So, just when I thought the problem disappeared. I reset the code. for a minute, my fan didn't go on, which sounded good now. I have code P0532. What should I be looking for?
P0532 - a/c low refrigerant, means low on freon (a/c won't be as cold). Check the a/c lines and valves for leak. Check a/c compressor for leak (green color dye with special neon light). If everything is good, go recharge the a/c system.
Check if the thermostat connector, make sure the wires are good no damage (check for power and ground, if you know how). Check for any leak if coolant is not enough, both upper and lower hoses are evenly hot, thats mean the thermostat is opening. If the coolant system is not completely bleed, air still trap in the system. Maybe radiator could be clogged. "Key On Engine Off" pull the fans fuses for it to reset, and clear the code before restarting engine (even if theres no code showing).
Because you replaced the wrong part. Replace there thermostat and coolant temp sensor, clear the check engine light (even if there's no light on), this will save the problem.
Yes its bad. If the radiator fans stay all time, it could drain the battery, burn out the fan when its too hot, the temp gauge could be going up to overheat. Fix the problem, clear the check engine light before you drive.
Yes it is still ok to drive but as long as theres no coolant leak, make sure the gauge doesnt reach up to HOT, and make sure the fan doesnt stay on when you turn off the car.
Disconnecting battery doesn't solve the problem, it turn off the check engine light for now. The problem is still there, will come back sooner or later because you didn't fix the problem. The check engine light code will be save as memory code. You can disconnect the battery if you have fixed the problem.
