Hi Hannah. I have in the past year been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease so my life has changed dramatically. One thing that I do bring is a a small extension cord. My heating pad. My eye mask is a huge must have.

Hi Hannah! I also have a hospital bag. You mentioned bringing your own toilet paper. I also bring my own box of tissues (a small box) - softer, aloe vera tissues, because the box by the hospital bed-side just feels so rough against your nose if you use tissues a lot. My hospital bag is already partially packed, and I have a list taped to my desk of what's in it, and what else would need to be packed at the last minute. Obviously I can't keep a bag fully packed all the time because I'm using a lot of the stuff! This is also handy in case I've gone into Emergency, not expecting to stay or not knowing how long I need to stay, then I can give my partner (or could be friend or family member) easy instructions to grab the bag and I can text them to add in anything on the list that doesn't have a tick against it. (I know, hyper-organised! But that's what life with chronic illness teaches us).
In my bag I will have: tissues, wallet, phone, earphones, phone charger (with extra long cord!), toothbrush (and charger) and small toothpaste, floss & piksters, dental mouthwash, earplugs, eye mask, sunglasses (hospital lights can be too much, and I get migraines), hairbrush & ties, deoderant, underwear, socks, slippers, singlets, pyjamas, jumper/sweater, book to read, notebook & pen, a little container of my own teabags (green tea, chamomile - great to have some home comforts that they might not offer), menstrual pads (regular & overnight), my own pillow with flannel cover so the cold on my face doesn't wake me up during the minimal sleep I'm getting in the hospital anyway, aloe vera & vit E bacterial wipes, medical appointment diary, a printed list that can be given to any doctor at the hospital (list of my main conditions, main pathological abnormalities, allergies, medication list, doctors contacts as I have a big team), book of poetry, a little wooden puzzle, crossword book, medical folder, a tiny plush wombat :)

Hey, Hannah! I'm expecting a lot more hospital visits in the future as my health gets worse, I was thinking about getting a snuggie? The infomercials were awful for it, but it's actually super helpful for people in wheelchairs. They're easy to take off and can be used while wheeling yourself around, and don't get caught in the wheels. I think that would be a great thing to bring since there might be some rolling around in wheelchairs during the visit.

Oooh! Bring some Poo-Pourri in addition to the fragrance. It's a spray that you spritz on the toilet water before you go and it traps the smell. There's also Unicorn Gold, which is made by the makers of the Squatty Potty, and they claim to be better. Try both!

I have been hospitalized a lot (before this year I was only getting hospitalized once a year for a week each because we were able to manage my problems in clinic and at home) since the beginning of the year due to my GI issues getting very severe (all conditions being caused by my EDS and Dysautonomia) . The first was for 5 days in January of this when I got my NJ tube and then for 5 days after my pylorplasty. Then I had a two day break and was sent home literally being able to keep nothing done and was back two days later which turned into a 17 day hospital stay and me coming home on TPN and NJ tube feeds. Then I got my first central line infection In the last week of July and luckily that was a direct admit, so I was able to pack. I only go to the ER when I think I need to be admitted so usually I pack a very small bag when I go to the ER of a charger, toothbrush, and toothpaste. That will get me through the night until someone can bring me a bag the next day. I usually pack a bag before I leave the ER so someone can just grab it from my room. So I pack the rest of my toiletrees, my clothes, and a laptop in that and if I get admitted they go home get it and bring it to me that night or the next day. I don't bring it to the ER because I don't like to assume I am getting admitted. You are so lucky cleanouts work for you I have failed 7 cleanouts (2 in hospital; 5 at home).

I don't have a chronic illness but I am in the hospital A LOT because of my immune system and I can agree that all of these things are pretty much necessary
Edit: I actually just had to go in the hospital so this comment was like foreshadowing my trip

I also bring ALL my fav condiments(travel sz) like, butter, Stevia(Splendas not gd 4 u but they pass it out) sesame seeds(I put them o on everything! Lol)so I can make the meal palatable! Or if one dumb Dr decided I can't have salt for the high blood pressure I I DON'T HAVE SMH. T they LOOVE experimenting on u!
