I can maintain back floating for days, it takes little to no energy. It's the first thing you should learn in the pool as it is the only thing that can save you for a long period of time when out in the deep.
I finally learned how to float on my back today. Unfortunately I have no friends and pool toys such as flotation devices are not allowed at my pool. It took a whole lot of getting water up my nose so I want to share my experience for those who might be in a similar situation. Stand in the water (I learned this in the middle of the pool with the water up to my shoulders but go where you feel comfortable) Bend down and put your chin in the water with your mouth and nose above the surface. Most important thing is to submerge both ears and look up at the sky, for me it helps to tilt my chin backwards as well. I have better buoyancy with my head at that angle than if my face was parallel with the sky. Take a deep breath Now lean back still while looking up and keeping both ears submerged lift up your legs and make yourself as pointy as possible. With your arms either put them at your sides or you can do a starfish thing but keep your palms facing up. Push your chest up, arch your back and lift your hips this will help to keep your body as close to the surface as possible. If your like me and your legs sink just kick them lightly you dont even have to do this continuously at least I dont but light kicking will keep your legs close to the surface You should be floating hopefully just relax and take controlled breathes like Chris said. Pretty much my entire head and face is underwater but my mouth, nose and eyes are above the surface which is what matters most. I know this was long but if you read the whole thing I hope I helped in some way :)
Man, you fixed it for me with your first instruction: "The first thing you need to think about is that you have air in your lungs, and it is this air that helps you to float in the water. If you breathe out all the air in your lungs, you won't be able to float. So when you breathe, you need to only breathe out a little bit of the air you have in your lungs. So you use short breaths. Do not empty your lungs - then you will sink like this." This is the most profound - maybe basic, but still, a profoundly fundamental - concept that I haven't seen in any other swimming/floating instruction, and certainly not from anyone who ever tried to teach me or correct my floating, in the 44 years I have been struggling with it! And I can relate to this because I have done a little bit of Scuba diving and one of the first things you learn there is that you go up by breathing in, and go down by breathing out - breathing is how you move up and down! So, I could immediately relate to this, and I tried it in the pool today after watching this video this morning. And it worked! I was able to float for an extended period of time - I actually ended up "floating" to the other end of the pool, because of how I was kicking my legs! Yes, now I have a new problem to solve - how to stay in the same place while floating!
Your teaching technic conformed with my technic in learning my skill 54 years ago the only thing is that I do my practice on the river, I am from Philippines, am not a swimmer but I can do floating on water without stress, I can stay afloat on my back comfortable for a long time without movement, I can ride on big waves floating like a log. I have learned the skill of floating on water when I was 9 years old, and now I am 63 years old still doing it to show to my grand children. Larry Braganza (Rodriguez, Rizal, Philippines)
I’ve been at the pool everyday for the past week practicing how to teach myself to swim. i’ve got the fundamentals down, now I’m watching videos to help me brush up on things I need to work on
Its gettn over fear. I'm blk. And from the ghetto. I was swimmin since I was in elementary. Get someone to put their hand under your chest, stomach lightly holding u up while u lay straight. Kick ur feet close together and try to only slightly kick only feet like ur feet is a motor. Do the swim motion with ur arms and you'll move forward. Go across and back once with someone holding u up using only their hand on ur chest or stomach. Do it again with them , letting go and holding again every 3 seconds let go for 1 second the hold u again. By the time u go back nd forth 4 times do it again without the person holding u at all. Only keepin their hand underwater near ur chest or stomach but never touching u. Then go yourself. You are welcome. I taught 11 ppl how to swim in less then 5 minutes. Ppl who were scared of water. Ppl who had swim classes. Learned from me in 5 min. After u learn how to freestyle swim. Which this is. U can do anything else and wont be scared

I told my wife after a very long time (15 years) of trying to teach to swim that she must first really learn how to float. I tried before but this video really clicked with her and we will practice it as she has a trauma from learning to swim as a kid. Wish us luck! Thanks for the video, it gave us new information I failed to communicate!
I learned how to float today. It’s very easy. This video makes it look hard. You go on your back and push yourself back and lift your legs first. One leg first then other and once your doing that you inhale big and fall backwards slowly and you feel yourself floating and you slowly exhale and inhale again
I have a question. Does being skinny greatly affects to float or to swim? Cause I'm skinny and having a hard time floating will these videos help me how to float effortlessly?
Been doing this about an hour every day during the summer, just relaxing and reflecting on things, traveling with the waves. Only downside is it blocks my ears for days after.
I already knew how to do this, but I don't need the side of the pool, while swimming I just go on my back and make my body stiffer, but this is a really good tutorial
Exactly, the only thing i did wrong as a kid, was not putting my head in the water, when i did, all went fine, my spine could be straight enough to float. this floating lesson lasted less than this video.
Hahaha yeah when i was little i do not want to put my head on water because i thought that the water will be on my ear then sand comes in and get stuck *Forever*.
Amazing.. I try this and just this morning. I already learn now how to float. Just try first floating kick board.. Then try without it after few hours. Boom mm. I got it now.. I really thank you bro.. Your the best channel... Keep it up.
Bro, why the heck am I just being told not to breathe out all the air if I don't want to sink? I used to breathe out completely and then breathe in. I can't wait to try this tomorrow and see if it helps me float
I learned to tread water and float on my back back in High School... I "mastered" it in a sense, at least for our training portion at that stage of expertise... but man, watching this still gives me chills!
I remember easily floating on my back when I was still a toddler and I still do today. Even I'm confused on how I'm able to do it. So I had to watch this tutorial to understand my own capabilities.
Thanks for the video. I learned to float today after watching this. Took me about 1 hour to get it. I skipped the putting my legs on the side of the pool (I couldn’t find my balance) and the having someone support my back since I was practicing alone. But I used the flat floating thing and at the need I could float on back for the first time in my life. I love water so perhaps that helped. Thank you once again.
I find that not breathing fully feels really uncomfortable and a little bit scary. So I constantly sink. Is it just about getting used to not letting out your air? I sometimes feel like I’m hyperventilating.
Watching this right now to practice since floating in water is one of the tests’ in my countries Navy. Like palms down in front of you, then turning sideways etc... it's too quick here, only a couple of seconds, and it's hard to keep track of. Thank you very much! :)

I did a TH-cam search but couldn't find any video from your channel with that title. If you have already made one, can you please include the link in the description box? Thank you!
Most just block it with their hands. I can do it with the muqueous membranes intuitivly. But i understand the pain, when we did underwater pirouettes, this don't work.
I can do the same. I think it relates to how well you relax. I feel totally relaxed in water and could probably fall asleep back floating. You are probably relaxed too.
This is the first thing I learned,I would suggest learning it early on so if your in the position of say getting a cramp, you can do this with very little energy
I wonder myself, i had this teached for like 5min, how to float, and the only think i had to change is to move the back of my head deeper so my spine is flatter, i was too curved, water got over me. But once you're straight, and doing the star, aka extending limbs, you're just floating easily. That's even fun to relax.
When i wanna learn floating my friend always say for me to straighten my body and relax it and this is always the outcome 0:29 but now this ia an understandable explanation thank you i can now float than swimming in the water OuO
I can maintain back floating for days, it takes little to no energy. It's the first thing you should learn in the pool as it is the only thing that can save you for a long period of time when out in the deep.

hiiiii... can u make a video on How to Dive?? thanks in advance
Christian. I can float on the surface of water without moving. Is this unusual?
I can do the same. I think it relates to how well you relax. I feel totally relaxed in water and could probably fall asleep back floating. You are probably relaxed too.
It is because of this video, now am learning how to float in water
Stomach floating is easy but this is hard. I can't keep kicking my legs
Today my friend teach me 4times I got perfectly 😍😍😍😍😍 I'm so happy
I can float in reverse without moving. I don't know how. But I can do it.
This is the first thing I learned,I would suggest learning it early on so if your in the position of say getting a cramp, you can do this with very little energy
Idk how but my body suddenly float on its own when I'm 9 back then without any effort. now I'm 22 still can do until now.
then why u watching

I wonder myself, i had this teached for like 5min, how to float, and the only think i had to change is to move the back of my head deeper so my spine is flatter, i was too curved, water got over me. But once you're straight, and doing the star, aka extending limbs, you're just floating easily. That's even fun to relax.
thousandth comment here! nice video
