As a swim instructor and a lifeguard I can tell you the most important thing is to remain calm. Most people are buoyant and will float so long as you relax. If you don't, your muscles will tense up and that is what causes you to sink. If you have no confidence in your skills, remain calm and do not move. Wait for someone to come get you. Deep, slow breaths and please relax.
I do 5 km lake crossings alone each day during the summer in Switzerland and although I know that it is dangerous at age 61 I can't not keep swimming. In Thailand I did a 6 miles swim with a partner but without any preparation in terms of checking the currents...this was very unwise. I sometimes feel scared in the middle of the lake but then re-compose myself. I think that it is a form of acting out and playing Russian roulette with fate. I do have a Bay Watch float trailing me on a string behind me and I cheat using fins. I was pushed into a pool when I was young and also saw three people drown in the sea in France and was very scared of swimming. I think that there is a transcending element in my behavior.
I learned when I was maybe 13 years old because I wouldn’t go swimming often and had my own drowning experience. I think the way I learned was by practicing the same movements in the shallow end as a kid. Then moving on to the sides of the pool. Always have someone who can swim with you and try your best to not freak out because you’ll only lose energy and possibly make it harder for someone to save you. Im 19 now and pretty confident in my swimming ability but I would never underestimate any body of water.
@@zZz-ye4fq yea but when i try those steps i need to take a breath right coz if not im gonna dead so when i kick and hold my breath and amy arm swimg goes through the water i need a breath and when i do it im drowned so if you have any options or a tips please tell me :)
Tips from me 1 - When your lungs are full of air your body will float on its own. 2 - When you are doing the legs make sure the legs are bend only 10% and you have to also point your toes. 3 - If you took a dive in deep water and your body isnt going up or down and your stuck in middle, start moving your legs and push the water down wards so you can come up. ( Your coach will tell you how to do it). 4 - If you are scared of diving, tell your coach when it's your turn to push you or tell your friend, and if your diving like in 6ft make sure before jumping put your hands up then jump, this is because then people will know that you can't can up. Thats it :)
if you are diving and are in a really deep water its important to watch were is up and where is down, in the water it is complicated to notice the direction where you are going

This is highly dubious. These are only suggestions. 1. Do not breathe under water without breathing apparatus 2. Yeah I don't think that's how you swim. What my big sister taught me was to put your hands on like a board or on the side of a pool and kick you legs. You're legs can be bent a little bit and you always need to point your feet. Then when you are okay, make sure to use a board they use at indoor water parks or pools and bring your arm under and then over the water and then put your hand back on the board and then keep repeating that until you feel ready to swim. You're whole entire body should be flat in the water.
last year i went to the beach with family and i have already watched this video before hand and i dont know how to swim in deep water but to save myself i had to remember the things from this video and it went well, i was quire nervous because i was drowning but then i remembered this video and it saved my life
Today my father saved me from drowning,i had gone to learn swimming in the canal and suddenly my stamina hesitated and got into 12ft deep my body was filling with water and had lost the hope but at end my dad came saved my life
It took me forever to learn how to swim. But i can barely do it. But if i had to jump or was thrown in deep water i can get out. I just want to learn how to tread water, swim underwater and not tire out quickly. But i dont have a pool and i dont want to go to a public one
I'm a brown kid. I was taught swimming by my dad. I learnt swimming by swimming and drowning and drinking water through nose (not dangerous though. My dad was looked after me carefully)😂😂 Anyone with me? Just me? Okay.😂
Nayel NYL meh, but not by dad , by coach but Similar condition tho! 😂..It's my 15th day im done with it but just breathing prob somewhat u must know! 😅
When I was little I would just jump into the deep end because I wanted to swim so badly. My mom notice before I did it and saved me. I did this multiple times, you’d think I’d learn my lesson. I was too short for the shallow end so I learned how to swim on the stairs of the pool. Edit: I thought this video would be about life of death situations when your stranded in the middle of the ocean.
I feel like in the video, some information wasn’t too clear with tip #2. As a lifeguard, it’s actually not good to hold your breath underwater or do multiple laps underwater. When doing so, you might hyperventilate before going underwater, which can be very harmful and many deaths have occured in military trainings and even well-trained swimmers. You can still do one lap underwater if you’re well trained but don’t hyperventilate before, just take a big breath before going underwater. If you force yourself to stay underwater you can faint and then drown... please be careful
Easy for you to say. I was spooked when I was little. I have dyspraxia a coordination problem. My lovely father threw me into mother's beach (beach water comes in but no waves) at Marina Del Rey in Los Angeles when I was about 5 years old not knowing THEN that I indeed had and still have dyspraxia. Next thing I knew, someone rescued me-from this day til now-I trust nobody to teach me how to swim and float. However I do like getting into a pool and take a deep breath and dive underwater even opening my eyes for a short minute while having my feet planted on the floor of the pool. Huge pools scare me-I get panicky-cause I fear someone trying to drag me into the deep end. If someone could cure my dyspraxia, maybe it may change me. With this condition I don't know how to ride a bike as well as this too requires coordination.
When I was working in my dad's subsidary company in RAICHUR district (A place in KARNATAKA state) in INDIA (country) as a SOLAR Engineer Trainee, I went to a nearby fresh water lake along with my colleagues. I remember that I was literally drowning at one point in the lake where my colleague quickly noticed and saved me. I'm very much thankful to him for this. From that day the fear of water increased for me and it took me almost 2 years to get rid of that fear when I went again for swimming along with my MBA friends to a resort. But seriously, I agree that we should get rid of the fear of water and should get trained properly on swimming. I'm planning for this in next month.
I'm having so much anxiety trying to watch this and to better myself or to overcome my fear but i just cant - ill come back again, mark this date 5/19/19
❤I am here too 👋🏽 I have tried several swimming classes, because they tried to drown me when I was a kid, and the last one seems to work well for me after a half decade 😜 I appreciate every single tip, these are very useful and will also help me to overcome my fear, hopefully 🙏😘

how'd you expect me to stay calm when I drown. i will freak out so I will never float 😨😨
Just hold your breath while on your back and wait to go above water then exhale quick and take another deep breath and after a few seconds repeat.
Sniping Noob21 she commented 2 years ago I don’t think she saw it lol

@@arthurmorgansaddler5915 maybe this is why little Johny Marston can't swim
Thanks for teaching me how to swim
I have started learning how to swim but I am having swimming class tomorrow, so I am here to learn more.
Me: walks on the water surface and just moves hands
I CAN SWIM YAAAY!
Slips.....

I’m a slow swimmer and idk how to float in deep deep water😂
I know how to swim but I just wanna know how to float in deep water
What you have to do in order how to float is you have to go on your back and shape yourself as a star.
Mario Torres I’m a slow swimmer and can’t swim at all
Same
Floating in deep water is the same as floating in not deep water
last year i went to the beach with family and i have already watched this video before hand and i dont know how to swim in deep water but to save myself i had to remember the things from this video and it went well, i was quire nervous because i was drowning but then i remembered this video and it saved my life
I always teach how to float and take a timeout from swimming to reduce / eliminate fear and build confidence in over your head water.
Today my father saved me from drowning,i had gone to learn swimming in the canal and suddenly my stamina hesitated and got into 12ft deep my body was filling with water and had lost the hope but at end my dad came saved my life
whats your age
that's why most videos out there says do not swim alone
and you probably hyperventilated

I literally watched ur video i jumped into 10feet nearly dying but my friend saved me
Watching this just after drowning yesterday 😰😰 ain't getting back in that pool ever😒😅
zaynab y is it
zaynab y come on take baby steps.
It took me forever to learn how to swim. But i can barely do it. But if i had to jump or was thrown in deep water i can get out. I just want to learn how to tread water, swim underwater and not tire out quickly. But i dont have a pool and i dont want to go to a public one
Adam Benton just relax and you will float to the top, once there get in a horizontal position and swim to safety.
jogmas12 im not afraid of water or swimming just not good at it. I swim like maybe 2 times a year total if that.
Well the only thing that is hard to me is to hold my breath in the water 😂 but now I can because of the tip you guys gave me so interesting
very imp and useful info 👍👍
I'm afraid of everything. That's why I stay inside and live my life vicariously through the internet.
Laughing while drowning in water...water is a very good friend remember to laugh
I have one more rule, don´t smoke 2 packs a day like I do ... you won´t last long in the water.
lol
you won't last long in the life too...
The Spark
Well, you won't last long anyway
Thank you very much for Reminding all these techniques.
I'm a brown kid. I was taught swimming by my dad. I learnt swimming by swimming and drowning and drinking water through nose (not dangerous though. My dad was looked after me carefully)😂😂
Anyone with me? Just me?
#6 be a fish
lolz

If I was a fish I would be a clown fish...No actually I would be a box jelly fish!
No #6 be Aquaman

"feel the water support yo-" wave crashes ontop of me, *I go tumbling down and get knocked out by some rock and drown*
Watches 30 mins before actually going to the beach 💀
Glo Lopez lol
@I that's sad condolence
I watched 3 mins before swimming 😂
Sandra Bullocks afraid of water... explain bird box🧐
She was blindfolded the entire movie
Rabi cgi water
I don't know how to swim one because one time I drounded

Swimming can help you in a natural disaster! Mostly included when you are drawning
❤I am here too 👋🏽 I have tried several swimming classes, because they tried to drown me when I was a kid, and the last one seems to work well for me after a half decade 😜 I appreciate every single tip, these are very useful and will also help me to overcome my fear, hopefully 🙏😘
