Nowhere to go but down? Little did they know that Helplessness Blues is a work of genius!

I think it was pretty daring of him to take that chance by living Fleet Foxes. The fact that gave it all up to do what he wanted to do is great. Instead of playing it safe and riding the gravy train, he took a chance, and, luckily, it worked.

Yes. I've been thinking that for a while now. I think Helplessness Blues is a modern day Pet Sounds.

after watching this and other interviews, and reading peoples posts on here, i have to say that i dont see where the preoccupation with comparing them to the beach boys comes from. all modern art is influenced by it's predecessors. fleet foxes music is simply the future of music. their songs are so unique and progressive that other bands should be compared to THEM. the only comparisons i make to fleet foxes is to compare their purity and emotional impact to joanna newsome, and beirut, my two (previously) favorite new artists.. although after listening to helplessness blues, i realize that joanna is one artist, who outshadows her band. these guys compliment themselves perfectly, (on the album at least. in the live shows, robbin attracts all the attention, but there is still an amazing vibe. it just seems to be a tough album to play live),and beirut, who my homie met and said they were jerks and it ruined them for him, (somethign which i have mixed feelings about) seem pompous and traditional compared to fleet foxes, although they are nothing but. they are a different style entirely but just as progressive. contrary to other peoples opinions, i found their third album, the rip tide, to tbe the best album i had heard since newsoms have one on me, and much more upbeat and energizing. BUT NOW, an album like this, that both contains the slow , beautiful touching moments of have one on me, and also the indie pop excitement of the rip tide seems the perfect album. but the thing about great works of art is that they shine in their own way, and though one can be compared to another, it cannot be said to be better than anything else. it just is what it is. those three albums are just my favorite recent albums, and they stand out for me, and i compare them because they are all three "organic", old yet new in style, and a unique part of a new wave of music in my opinion, where indie kids are picking up real instruments and making real music that is both like the old stuff but also wonderfully new.

I like the slides and remarks Robin slips in about drugs, making you so "far gone" that you find some sort of "new" influence/sound, while continually looking over at J, who is blatantly his true target audience.
New Black Winter Hymnal for J, "I was in the public eye". Lol

Micah Smith I could but wrong but since this was in recorded in 2008, I think he barely knew Josh at the time and I don't believe josh got super into psychedelics until a couple years later.

I kinda felt the same way after listening to Fear Fun and I love you Honey bear, then Pure Comedy came out and I didn't like it as much as the other two on the first listen, but then it grew on me you know. However, months after I got kinda tired of Josh's music, and found out that Crack-Up was coming out, and honestly, it blew my mind away, best FF album so far, and imo a better record than PC. Over all, two of my favorite artists along with dem radioheads

I don't know. I think they're both great for different reasons. I'd personally take Helplessness Blues and Crack-Up over any FJM record.
