@@danw9464 Well him rolling his eyes at the beginning certainly indicated his displeasure at doing the interview. But I realize many of these interviewers ask such, well, less than stellar questions. The best interviewer in my opinion is Rick Beato. Though I’m not sure Rick would enjoy Mr. Tillman.
When you are a music fan aged in your early 60s, it becomes very difficult to find new music that appeals to you. Father John Misty is one of the very few modern day musical artists that stands out and stands beside the greats of the past.
this is a great interview. kudos to Raina for making FJM feel more comfortable as the conversation went on too. some genuinely great quotes and moments throughout this.
Wow a very down to earth human interview. I love the way his career is all playing out. It's nice to love something these days. Mahash is coming at the right time.
What a great interviewer ! I really enjoyed your questions, the investigation and the comebacks for every answer! Really well done! It's a joy to hear Josh talk about the process !
I really enjoyed that. Fascinating insight into how songs come to life. And aliens. And the Viagra Boys! I didn’t like the ‘last record’ comment though - say it ain’t so, Josh. Interviewer Raina does a great job too. Loved it.
Wow this is the first time I can really tell he's getting older. Time really does make fools of us all. I dread the day when the same can be said about his counterpart Mr. Pecknold from Fleet Foxes.
GREAT INTERVIEW. great questions:) loved this:)) and love the Album!! Hows.. JT " this is my last album". also JT.. "We''ll do this next time" hahah hope its not.. also... scream land is not 1 note.. it's 3 chords and about 4 melody notes..( not including bridge) ( incase anyone is taking him verbatim and tries to write a song with just one note..and is wondering why it doesn't sound as amazing as this track ;) the point they're making is simple is good. what a great song!!
10:53 is every songwriter’s experience when they have nothing to say. J Tillman can always muster up something. Play above all men J. Stop being “ashamed” or whatever. Those J Tillman songs meant more than you know
She Cleans Up is the best song on this album. This is his forte if he can continue this way. The video of this song is the best of all of his songs with video. He said he likes satire in his songs. Ramp it up a bit. Rock it out a little more, jazz it up, hip hop it more, whatever. Stay away from the slow dragging story telling songs. Tell the same same stories with some up beat. It will go a lot further.
@ Yeah. I mean there many fans here that adore him rightfully. His music is very good. But I used the word pretentious in my original comment, then erased it. I thought it might offend folks. But yes, that is how it feels listening to him. A bit too self absorbed for me but I think perhaps that’s what makes his music so good. So I’d rather listen to his songs than chat over breakfast.
@@RUNLONG88 I'm not sure if you meant to make light of it, but from what he's said in past interviews, his childhood actually was quite traumatic. He was estranged (possibly still is?) from his parents.
Finally he decides to come back to interviews
You can tell he hates them 😆
I've been waiting for this moment for so many years.
Sure, he's gotten older, but that stone-cold snark hasn't aged at all.

@@TheGreatConstantini Beato and Tillman is probably the least likely collab to ever happen 💀they would hate each other
Rick doesn’t like new music lol
Mr Tillman, good to see you again...
There's a few outstanding charges just before we check you in
I haven’t seen an interview with him since high school

He’s our internet-poisoned Leonard Cohen/Warren Zevon hybrid
A beautiful album - one of his best so far.

Any musician will tell you that talking about aliens is the most important part of recording
This is the most normal interview he's ever done.
Great interview, it fleshed out what I was feeling about the album, thanks to your questions

Been waiting for his interviews more than I've been waiting for his albums. Love them, tho
P.S. Great job interviewing FJM, by the way

Great Interview Raina!
love the album made me smile for ear to ear on a listening walk.
I am enjoying this new album.
Great interview! Enjoyed watching this!
The new album is great.
What on Earth is going on with the editing here? The endless “um”s “like”s and “y’know?”s are the best part of Josh’s interviews.
A “disgusting freak” who put out yet another genius album. Hats off! 💿🤍

He asked them to release the cut where he said “it’s not my last but feels like it” more or less. It’s on twitter
@@bobby8737 do you have the link by any chance?
I think she meant the chorus is "one chord," it's definitely not "one note" XD
Mahashmashana, all is silent now

Father John Chillin’
aweshomeeee
I'm excited to see FJM on Joe Rogain next

How tf is screamland a one chord/note song?
it literally isn't
I think he means it’s very simple and just worded it oddly
Yeah he’s just trying to make it sound slick like that Lou Reed quote. Might be my favorite song off the album though
No please no. He said this sixth album feels like his last.
The man is pure genius
Therefore Aliens do exist
This album is destined for greatness
I so hope that it's not his last
I thought he cut off all his hair
