I can say he is very mystical man, he's in another level of consciousness !! that's why i love his music and lyrics, all the unspoken notions and feelings..
yeah you can tell that he, and the rest of the crew, are very humble. I guess their success was sort of accidental, but you can definitely tell that they're in it for the MUSIC and not for fame. I love them :)
although he makes some of the most beautiful music i've ever heard, he still feels insecure about his work and himself. thats human beauty at its peak. never turn into a self confident prick, robin.
I think Jian Gomeshi does a wonderful job by keeping up with Robin and asking follow-up-questions so that the interview almost becomes like a conersation rather than Q&A all the way.
I just can't get over the fact that one of my all time favorite musicians just referenced Michael Crichton, my all time favorite author. Truman Show Syndrome, here I come.
Really nice to see Robin speak , he seems very humble , but I don't like the questions the interviewer gives them , he keeps talking about sales and succes , and you can tell Robin isn't in music for the succes.Helplessness Blues was such a personal album, I wish he would have asked the meaning and origins of some songs and musical ideas (like the free jazz saxo on The Shrine/Argument) anyways it was really awesome to see Robin answer all these questions, I hope there next album is just as good
I remember reading their spin article, and the rest of the band members almost had to make an intervention because of Robin's constant revisions of helplessness blues.
They would go on to a indefinite hiatus after their second album because if all the noise the album created. They just got tired of becoming the popular kids really fast and dropped everything after the tour. You can see Robin talk about this towards the end of the interview not knowing the popularity of their new album would be too much to endure forcing them into a hiatus.
Good things take time. Listen to Robin how he talks about this stuff. He won't release music just for the sake of releasing it, and personally, I think that is great. BTW he's posted a photo of him recording songs on Facebook, so he's not idle. I'm sure there will be a new record at some point, whether that is in 2 years or in 10 I really can't tell.
they are so amazing, best band in a while! They definitely do sound like CS&N, and even though Grizzly Bear is different then them (more electronic) they are awesome too...
Their interview mabey slow, but they are definately not boring individules! They are pure humanbeing who are faithful to what they are with sparkling souls...
@mattyD2341 Animal Collective, Grizzly Bear, and Fleet Foxes use a lot of vocal harmonies And fleet foxes and animal collective cite The Beach Boys as a major influence. I like all 3 bands, but I think Fleet Foxes is my favorite.
I have come to think that Jian Ghomeshi is one of the best all-around interviewers, and especially with musicians. So I take criticisms of his questions with a grain of salt, as a method in interviews is sometimes to take a tack that the interviewer does not necessarily agree with but is used to draw out something from the interviewee.
i don't understand why interviewers consistently waste so much time asking successful bands what it's like to have made it. I'm pretty sure no one finds that aspect interesting anymore, especially people who like this type of music.
COULD YOU IMAGINE A CONCERT WITH FLEET FOXES AND BON IVER AND MUMFORD AND SONS AND CITY AND COLOUR AND LIKE SUFJAN STEVENS COULD YOU IMAGINE HOW CRAZY THAT WOULD BE
The same is often said of Sam Gamgee for Frodo. Same thing, I think. Just a couple of awesome dudes who are super super close, to the point of it maybe looking homosexual.
i'm extremely fond of their music, but this video is kind of painful to watch. but whatever, it is their good right to be really tedious and reluctant in interviews!
for such a wonderful songwriter he is unfortunately very inarticulate as an interviewee. Sky can't seem to talk without looking at Robin to make sure he is saying the right thing. still BRILLIANT band. wonderful music.
I can say he is very mystical man, he's in another level of consciousness !! that's why i love his music and lyrics, all the unspoken notions and feelings..
justin vernon and robin pecknold are going to be the people my children grow up listening to, as I grew up listening to dylan and young.
yeah you can tell that he, and the rest of the crew, are very humble. I guess their success was sort of accidental, but you can definitely tell that they're in it for the MUSIC and not for fame. I love them :)
Not to take away from FFs, but Jian is a damn good host
he asks really good questions
adam smith He did a great interview with MGMT who are pretty bad with interviews.
I think he made them unconfortable
He's got a laptop from 1998
although he makes some of the most beautiful music i've ever heard, he still feels insecure about his work and himself. thats human beauty at its peak. never turn into a self confident prick, robin.
So stoked to hear that Robin's big on Pet Sounds, Smile, Odessey and Oracle as well!
23:50 maybe this question scared Robin into a five year hiatus
You can really tell he was about to be done
5:26 «The Beach Boys' «Pet Sounds» changed my life»
24:38 «Radiohead, the best band ever»
Respect, Robin!
I respect Robin and this entire band so much. Mad props
So rare to see them give an interview. Thanks a ton.
I think Jian Gomeshi does a wonderful job by keeping up with Robin and asking follow-up-questions so that the interview almost becomes like a conersation rather than Q&A all the way.
robin hasn't changed his shirt in months... I saw him back in july and he was wearing the same shirt!! he is still the man!
gosh, i feel like the interviewer wasn't really understanding what was robin was saying sometimes but i totally understood!
That "couple of solo EPs" Robin mentions...
I know of St Vincent St. Is there another I'm unaware of? I need to hear it...
either this is actually a really old interview or robin pecknold's hair grows freakishly fast.
I just can't get over the fact that one of my all time favorite musicians just referenced Michael Crichton, my all time favorite author.
Truman Show Syndrome, here I come.
I hope there IS a next album.
4:27 "it was one time" LOL
Really nice to see Robin speak , he seems very humble , but I don't like the questions the interviewer gives them , he keeps talking about sales and succes , and you can tell Robin isn't in music for the succes.Helplessness Blues was such a personal album, I wish he would have asked the meaning and origins of some songs and musical ideas (like the free jazz saxo on The Shrine/Argument) anyways it was really awesome to see Robin answer all these questions, I hope there next album is just as good
dO yOu LiKe BeInG fAmOuS?!
This is random but what kind of jacket (Robin’s) would that be called? I like the look
How does the interviewer not understand "lost world to Jurassic Park"
I want to hear more about why he felt more interesting in the health food store.
I remember reading their spin article, and the rest of the band members almost had to make an intervention because of Robin's constant revisions of helplessness blues.
I just found this band... Lovin em... Vocals remind me of jim james
@130leviatan Nope, they were just in studio to chat. Next time, for sure.
I think I don't notice he's being vague because I've gone numb to it because of too many Alex Turner interviews.
adam smith Chill, m8
Skye and I have the same mickey mouse watch. Rad.
Robin is clearly a wise existentialist and the host coudn't hardly make efforts to aknowledge how genius the frontman is.
They would go on to a indefinite hiatus after their second album because if all the noise the album created. They just got tired of becoming the popular kids really fast and dropped everything after the tour. You can see Robin talk about this towards the end of the interview not knowing the popularity of their new album would be too much to endure forcing them into a hiatus.
love you forever Robin bby
awwwww they are so cute
The Jurassic park metaphor is dead on
Thanks for the recommendation, Robin. Midlake is amazing; like if Fleet Foxes, Fleetwood Mac, and Radiohead had a musical 3-way...
I feel like Robin is basically saying he's not willing to sell his soul to the devil to get ahead in music.
Imagine how bad that would be if that happened.
“if he started rock climbing it’d be wrong” - 6 years later they wanna start rock climbing together 😂
Max Ramsden I thought of that too!
lead singer is cuteeee
he thinks of the hardest possible way to answer a question.
Good things take time. Listen to Robin how he talks about this stuff. He won't release music just for the sake of releasing it, and personally, I think that is great. please put the entire fist bon iver interview up. PLEASE.
Two years waiting for an album
i find the tension between these two fascinating
My two favorite boys :D
Ahh yes, Pet Sounds changed my life as well. One of the most amazing, meaningful albums ever made. I guess I just wasn't made for this time.
love these guys sooo so much :D
15:05 omg yes!! Perfectionism is debilitating. I feel ya, Robin.
"I felt more interesting working at the health food store" XD
they are so amazing, best band in a while! They definitely do sound like CS&N, and even though Grizzly Bear is different then them (more electronic) they are awesome too...
I think Jian asked some pretty insightful questions. Enjoyed the interview.
Their interview mabey slow, but they are definately not boring individules! They are pure humanbeing who are faithful to what they are with sparkling souls...
Charlie Kelly.
IMO Robin Pecknold sounds better singing than talking.
@mattyD2341

that laptop tho...

your world just got a whole lot better my friend
THIS IS GREAT
touché
I have a laptop like that I still use.
if it ain't broke...
it's insanely slow though.
I would hardly call songs like Minnesota, WI artificial or un-organic...
Both artists are excellent without mirroring each other.
R.I.P. Robin's beard.
i don't understand why interviewers consistently waste so much time asking successful bands what it's like to have made it. I'm pretty sure no one finds that aspect interesting anymore, especially people who like this type of music.
is there a performance??
Okay ladies, just out of curiosity-- Robin or Skye, who's the most attractive?
Robin!
He seems as lost for words to express his feelings as me
@thismarginalia I looked for that and totally agree.Good catch.
COULD YOU IMAGINE A CONCERT WITH FLEET FOXES AND BON IVER AND MUMFORD AND SONS AND CITY AND COLOUR AND LIKE SUFJAN STEVENS COULD YOU IMAGINE HOW CRAZY THAT WOULD BE
was this before or after J Tillman left?
What's the band Robin compares Fleet Foxes to at 20:07?
can't even look at jian anymore
skchalivetlnd That's the thing with accusations though. it taints someone's image forever.
Finally another band that plays not for Money, but the music
come back ):
real musicians
The same is often said of Sam Gamgee for Frodo. Same thing, I think. Just a couple of awesome dudes who are super super close, to the point of it maybe looking homosexual.
still don't see it, sir. Robin's just left a longtime relationship with his girlfriend..
Scott looks so much like John Paul Jones!
Two bands, actually.
"Midlake or The Bees."
YES THEN I WOULD DEFINETELY SHOUT IN CAPS LOCK FOR THE WHOLE SHOW
That is a valid point, but I still love 'my boyfriend' Jian ;)
thumbs up for pet sounds
I kind of feel like Skye has a thing for Robin.
Or they are just good friends
8:00
i have a feeling it's because the interviewer isn't really that into their music. otherwise, he'd have better questions.
watch the full video.
@greenheart136 like mumford... our fallen soldiers :(
i'm extremely fond of their music, but this video is kind of painful to watch. but whatever, it is their good right to be really tedious and reluctant in interviews!
Midlake or the Bees (A Band of Bees)
you know..... like....you know....
Why does green jacket look sad af
for such a wonderful songwriter he is unfortunately very inarticulate as an interviewee. Sky can't seem to talk without looking at Robin to make sure he is saying the right thing. still BRILLIANT band. wonderful music.
Skye is so cute.
yeah but musically Mumford cant even touch fleet foxes, fleet foxes transcend any mainstream due to their shear musicality
how so?
Grizzly Bear!
I didn't know that these two guys were gay before this interview. I don't care I'm just kind of surprised.
They aren't.
I know Robin, i know.
he shaved?
It's called a "face for radio" for a reason...
jurassic park
Are they a couple?
what do you mean?
+Andrew Isaiah Tamayo I mean are they gay? Judging be the talk. No offence
+Aniket Kapse ok, i see
they're best friends. they have been since they met the last day of 7th grade. Neither of them are gay
***** Thank you.
