Thank you Chase for introducing denial and cognitive dissonance into this analysis. That has been my feeling about her reaction.
I think SS hinted at/ implanted the idea of helping him out with a base so she would offer it.
I also think he would made make her feel paranoid about getting enough sleep and not setting off a Bipolar episode both implicitly and explicitly.
I think it’s very possible that SS turned her against her own intuition.
It’s possible he was drugging Jenn as well as Maddie because he was googling if certain sedative medications would show up in a blood test (medications he had access to)
I also think her mother is a “told you so” type of mum and she did NOT like Stephan so while the realisation of what Stephan had been doing to Maddie and the likelihood that he had killed her was dawning on Jenn- she was in a deep denial because as well as wanting to stave off the the absolute HORROR of this reality,
she is simultaneously awakening to this revelation that she had no idea who Stephan was and that she had been in a relationship with a facade rather than a person- essentially she is hiding from her own feelings of guilt and stupidity for having brought this man into their lives and trusting him.
I think all the above is compounded by the fact that she anticipates and fears her mother’s reaction which will be blame. As well as from the police and the rest of the world.
I don’t think her reaction is as much to do with involvement as most of the witchunters want it to be. I think she’s preserving her psychological safety on many different levels as the layers of cognitive dissonance are slowly unfolding, yielding to reality.

What struck me is when she quotes herself, "I said "I asked her 'please, no I need a good night's sleep'". This indicates that she is pleading with Maddie to sleep upstairs with SS, which also means that Maddie did not want to, which is why JS had to beg her to. That breaks my heart, Maddie wanted her mom there to protect her.

I agree. Jenn Soto’s reaction to that horrifying photo depicting the SA of Maddie (by Stephan) is somehow even MORE disturbing than the act itself, given that it goes against all societal and cultural norms for a mother of a young, vulnerable child to NOT have the maternal instincts to want to do everything in her power to try to protect their child and keep them safe from would-be predators. Panel brings up a great point. She wasn't checked-out about her daughter. A rule about 'no sleepovers,' was established. When the interrogator asks her why it was established, she says 'because of previous sleepovers.'
MEANING: she knew about him previously assaulting Maddie, which is why that rule was created. As if that would stop the SA from happening. She knew about it. She chose a man over her child. We've seen MANY, many women do this, to one degree or another. Male-centered women are a Danger; to themselves, to others, and to their children. Do not let these type of women into your life. And watch out for the children in theirs. She is such a prime example of this. And this is beyond upsetting.

Fun fact! Hey Chase, Jenn was pulling and playing with her *drawstring aglets.* An aglet is the hard sheath-like thing usually made of metal or plastic at the end of drawstrings on sweatshirts and/or shoelaces.
Aglets are usually placed there for one or both of the following reasons:
    1. To prevent cord unraveling
    2. To make it easier to thread the string through eyelet holes.
Aglet comes from the French word aguillette, meaning "needle/pin."

What mother lets their daughter have "sleepovers" with their boyfriend? ... It's so weird and dysfunctional. Imo, I think she knew and she's just playing dumb. She said SHE had a rule for "no sleepovers" because SHE didn't trust men, but in the next sentence she says she can count on one hand how many times it happened. She didn't care to expose Maddie to him. She saw him as a babysitter and someone to keep Maddie occupied while she took care of herself. Imo, she didn't care if Maddie got hurt by a "man", Jen just didn't want to get hurt by a man.
EVERYTHING IS ALL ABOUT JEN! She didn't even go to her own daughter's 13th birthday party.
IMO, Jen has a huge disconnect when it comes her relationship with Maddie...I have a feeling, I can only describe, as Jen having resentment toward Maddie. Was she jealous? If so, Jen would, probably, fight to be the center of attention, and she would see Maddie as a rival and competitor. This also means that Jen would want to please SS and give him what he wants. I think Jen knew, but didn't care as long as SS was happy, IMO. It was all about Jen's happiness, first, then Stephan's, and Maddie was always last...

She’s not only bipolar, but also PTSD, ADHD, and anxiety, and past SA, loneliness, emotional detachment from her mother. Mental illness is individualistic. Experiences and symptoms are very different for each person, even though the diagnoses are the same. That’s is a very isolating experience. Feel intense loneliness, can be traumatic, painful and crippling. What they fear the most is being left alone. Sexual predators sense that in weak women, use it to work on to fully control them, gain access to their children, hampering self defense mechanisms to save themselves and children. How they groom the single moms into their control, in order to get full access to the children. Often they are masters of psychological manipulation and control, hide their predators side so well, can fool many people.
Behavioral Panel left out the key factor of GROOMING. Sterns groomed her and Maddie. Explain odd behavior, strange choices…she was born with a weak psychology….SS was not like normal adult man - he had TBI arrested his development - he was a man-child, liked toys, games, immature child like, non threatening. He groomed Maddie to like him, and be quiet. He got Maddie to ask Jen she wanted to be with him. After once, twice - nothing bad,…then maybe just this one night when I really needed to recuperate my mind, it would be ok. Unfortunately it was not. It’s all because of one monster - he is responsible, and now he’s in jail. Justice is served. Let Maddie rest in peace. Jen to grieve alone in peace. Everyone be at peace.

@@nicolina4050 Thank for your reply as well. May I ask if you have dealt with or treated victims of groomers, in particular single mothers whose child was SA by the groomer? Also I wanted to paste information about grooming here to give you some basic knowledge.
The classic stages of grooming can roughly be summarised as:
      Groomers target/profile the victim(s)
Groomers deliberately use words, promises and actions to gain the victim’s trust
They identify a need in their victims and fill it - or pretend/seem to do so
They desensitise the victim, often slowly, so that their normal guards/filters fail
Groomers often then isolate victims (if they're not already isolated) and/or make them complicit in wrongdoing or in their own demise.
They then often, but not always, sexualise the relationship. This is sometimes the end game for adult sexual groomers, who later disappear/'ghost' their targets
Groomers establish/maintain control over the situation and/or the victim's behaviours, often using 'gaslighting' techniques to make them doubt their own instincts

@@patchlindy Jenn is a victim, too. I feel for her and believe her emotions are most likely subdued due to routine, helpful medications. However, some boundaries should exist. It was not OK for her to send Madeline to sleep with a grown man alone (and in her interview, she seemed to know this). Grooming is real and terrible. However, someone that is groomed should still possess some limits; maybe not "enough" limits, but some, yes. Is it Jenn's fault Stephan and Madeline spent time together outside of the bedroom? No- not if she did not know about the abuse. However, diagnoses (even many) do not make it "OK" or even understandable to send one's daughter to sleep alone with a man. If Jenn were my friend, what would I do? I would hug her and support her, of course; however, if I knew she sent her daughter to sleep with Stephan, I would immediately intervene and speak with her. Grooming can cause one to be less vigilant and too trusting- but to the point of sending your child to sleep with a grown adult?

    • @nicolina4050
      @nicolina4050 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@patchlindy I am very aware that mental illness is individualistic - due to personal and professional experience. I need not expound. Notably, using the word "illness" is not helpful or positive. Having various mental disorders does not make sending your child to sleep with an adult understandable. Madeline and Jenn are both victims. However, at a minimum, Jenn should have refrained from sending her daughter to sleep with an adult man.

Maddi Soto was unalived and reported missing on a Monday. This interview with her mother, Jennifer, took place on Friday that week. I don’t see how her voice is not incoherent, how she doesn’t break down and lose it. She is not the absolute mess that an innocent, unsuspecting mother would be.

E eryone always says, She's medicated. OK and?? I'm medicated but if my teenage daughter was missing I would need SO much medication to make me as calm as she is. I would be out in the streets screaming for my child. But here she is, all calm and relaxed like nothing happened to HER child.

Yes when the kids are babies and toddlers. There should be no reason to get your sleep interrupted when the kid is 13 (obviously different sicknesses and emergencies excluded).
It's such a bad excuse for her (them) to call it sleepovers etc 🤢🤬. Jenn's mental health had affected Maddie long before SS came into the picture.

Period. She CLEARLY prioritized SS and clearly was trying to protect him over her own daughter. After being shown the photos of him SA'ing Maddie she called his Dad to get him a lawyer NOW. Then when meeting in person (as he picked her up from the police station), she not only acted totally normal but she went on to explain that SS was sexually frustrated and they hadn't slept together in a long time! As if she was defending his behavior.
There is NO excuse. Everything points to her knowing more was going on between them or that she was highly suspicious, but she didn't care because she was selfish and liked SS more than she did Maddie.

A SINGLE bed at that, while she got her "needed" sleep in a king by herself, with the dog. Maddie actually needed sleep to get up the next morning for school; Jenn didn't work for the next 2-3 days. She had an entire day of naps ahead of her-- how exhausting! 🙄
She didn't care. She said she didn't trust men at all. Ever. Not even her dad. She was taught to never trust men. But what does she do? She sends her CHILD to sleep in a SINGLE bed with her bf in a room with a door that locks x3. She said she was "being selfish". Understatement of the century.
She was being selfish & disgusting bc she knew exactly what was going on. Why else would a "Woody Allen situation" be her "biggest fear"? Anyone who buys this woman's BS anymore is a walking 🚩🚩🚩 to me. And I hope to God they don't have kids!

@@LilyPedals 1:19:37 and Jen says she wanted SS to have a lawyer because Maddie could have been abducted and still missing, how disgusting for her to act worried about Maddie being missing and being mistreated when it had been going on in her house for years!
She said in one interview that she had only been working for about a week, before that she lived on disability. So she was home ALL the time. How would it be possible for SS to abuse Maddie and have all the pictures from a span of at least 5 years, yet Jen had no idea?
This case is just so heartbreaking. As much as I loathe SS, I hope he tells all and exposes Jen for her involvement so she can face life in prison.

The way she says "no no no, no no no" is a red flag for me. And immediately follows with, then they really wanted to watch a movie and i was really tired "or something" so she said okay go ahead but "this can't happen often". I don't know why, but that whole diatribe strikes me as odd.
