The comparison with the S10e was exactly what I was waiting for. I'm still using my old S10e and it has been hard to find a replacement that is not HUGE...I think this will be my next phone even if it comes in a bit higher price in Europe (compared to USA). Great clip!
Same!
Same here Amigo
I switched from the S10e (my all time favorite phone) to the Zenfone 9. Trust me it's the best investment you'll make in a phone and you won't be disappointed. And now that the Zenfone 10 it's worth it.
S10e owner here too. 3.5mm and wireless charging sold me.
Love my S10e! Hopefully mine will last another 2 years or so. Zen is still too expensive for me!!
Damn the pricetag of Zenfone 10 in the US is 699? I have to pay much more for that in Germany. ASUS is giving preorder discounts(50 eur) but still it stays at 799 eur. Meanwhile pixel 7 and pixel buds pro bundle sells on Amazon at 599 as prime day deal. The price difference is just too hard to swallow
US prices are always given without taxes, EU prices include taxes.
@@TheChiraagGand the US prices are still almost always lower
@@QuellTheHeresy this is definitely true but when you factor in the tax the difference isn't quite as drastic.
I am from Germany as well and decided to go for the Zenfone 10.
Coming from the S10e every other newer Phone just didnt feel right in the hands, no matter how nice they looked. I want everything the zenfone 10 offers, so in the end it wasnt a tough choice to make
it's the same price in Switzerland I just looked it up, 799 CHF. Wtf? Might get the Zenfone 10 for black Friday or Christmas because my Pixel 6 has God awful battery life and the quality of the camera isn't enough for me to keep using it while it doesn't have fast charging and the battery will drain in hours.
It's a shame that this isn't releasing in India 🥲
India has enough phones.
You can always import
wait, they said that they will go global!? 😭😭😭😭😭😭
@@ClaxtonBay123didn't ask
Is Romeo dialing really a thing in India?
Andrew, since this is the first non-Pixel phone you've used in a long time, have you found yourself missing any Pixel exclusive software features while using the Zenfone 10?
I used to miss some Pixel features when I moved to OnePlus, but actually now I prefer ASUS's base UI + QOL tweaks over Pixel, even if some neat features are missing
I also have this in mind. I like the Pixel 3 because of the size and the performance is just enough for my daily tasks. Now looking at this Zenfone 10 for my next phone. Do you guys think the 2 year(?) OS update is a deal breaker?
@@km08 not for me. I usually like my OS as I buy it as sometimes some companies ruin usability with os updates. The security updates (4 years) is more important.
@@TheChiraagG Totally agree. I experienced this on the OnePlus 8T. OxygenOS 11 on it is absolutely perfect, but no longer receives security updates, but OxygenOS 13 is absolute garbage. They ruined the whole experience.
@@docmars exactly that! My 7T Pro remains on oos 11!
I was looking for options and it is not just the size, but also weight. I don't need additional 20g in my pocket when i replace my current phone (yeah, i know, not that much, but i am used to such weight). And it still has killer battery. Just great. Stores here only have ZF9 for now. I think it releases in July. So maybe in a few months will arrive here.
I personally think S23 is the best small phone (the one with ufs 4.0)
Came here to comment this. I bought the S23 because of its size.
It's amazing how these youtubers don't consider the S23 a "small" phone simply because Samsung doesn't advertise it as one.
It has a bigger screen in a smaller package than this phone, and an additional zoom camera, and a more premium build quality.
@@kb24theMVP considered it but went Zenfone for the battery life (stellar so far) and the UI (I don't enjoy Samsung's, purely a personal preference thing). In addition can't get the S23 in 16/512 spec unless you go for a bigger one in the range. There's definitely some compromises though, but overall I'm happy with it so far.
S23 is > $1000.....
@@iabuchanno it’s not 1000 bucks .that was price at the launch. its around 650-700 rn
I was sad the 9 was only available on the Asus store. If they would get it into carrier's stores, that would be amazing! I'm a T-Mobile user, and having it available through their store online would be an instant buy for me. I'm still heavily considering it when it's available in the US. But if I could get it by upgrading my current phone, I'd do it in a heartbeat!
Right, people don't even know it exists. My Zenfone 10 just came a week and a half ago and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. I think they discount how many people actually want a smaller phone with a headphone jack that's fully featured
Zenphones may not have support for a number of LTE bands. It will work if you don't travel abroad. If you do, issues may reveal when you don't expect them.
My only concern are the update schedule. I need 3 years of updates
Buy an iPhone. At least five years (with cases up to seven or eight years) of actual *meaningful* software updates. You buy one phone, and feel like you have a new one every year for a few years straight.
Why do you need 3 years? Curious
Same though. BUT, for myself, I don't usually change phones. My Pixel 3 now, still has the Android 12, and still good for me. Is there a downside of not having more than 3 years OS update?
I "upgraded" from the Note9 to the s10e. I'm done with big phones (which, may I remind everyone, used to be called phablets).
Also, I think it's messed up that there's a subsect of people who prefer smaller phones (like my aging parents) but they literally are running out of options.
You’re in the minority with that size preference. It is what it is. But you got this and the Pixel 7A. Perfectly fine options.
@@stephen_sezs 2 options, very generous. I don't think "it is what it is" is good enough. Does every single variant have to be profitable, or does it make perfect sense that the sellers subsidize the ones don't sell?
And to clarify, I don't necessarily care about me. I don't like it, but I'll deal. But after I tried to unsuccessfully make my parents use the newest, hottest tech, I tried to see it from their perspective. They had SE's and then one day they broke, and they were forced to change their workflow, or rather lifeflow.
Just a reminder, the first iPhone was 3.5".
@ch3burashka phones are used for way more than what was available at the time of the first iPhone.
Also, yes, those are companies, not charity organisations. If the small form factor doesn't work, they have any right to not make any phone.
And btw a lot of people always complain about not having small phones, but then they don't buy them
@@ch3burashka"does every variant have to be profitable"
Uh, yeah, that's capitalism. lol.
@@ch3burashka sounds like you want a Lightphone II or maybe a Galaxy Flip. But the world has moved on from small phones with poor battery.
I have been dailying an s10e for the past 4 years and this is the first phone I've even considered upgrading to.
Dude i miss Asus Zenfone. My first Zenfone was Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 and Zenfone 5 from 2018, and dude till now im still using it. Durability of this brand is superb, Battery, Functionality is probably some of the best. Its a shame that ASUS PH now only focuses on Laptop.
Love the form factor. But how long will be the software support? that is my only long-term problem with Asus Zenfones, otherwise I'd already have one (btw, the support for Samsung S10e was pretty good)
Same concern, that's why in the end I went with the iPhone 13 mini instead of the Zenfone 9.
Thanks guys! If you have nothing major negative to say about the Zenfone, I am ordering it right away! Thanks for discussing it honestly and making the ever more difficult decison which phone to get a lot easier!🤩
"Small phone" is now something that can be put in perspective on a yearly basis. I have an iPhone 13 mini and absolutely love it for its form factor, whereas though this phone is a great "small" android phone. For perspective the Zenfone 10 has a slightly larger screen size than the iPhone XS (5.8 inches iPhone vs 5.9 inches Zenfone), which was never really classified as a small phone when it was in Apple's line-up. Because the new standard size of a flagship phone is relatively large for both iOS and Android, the perspective is significantly different than it was even just two years ago.
The Zenfone 10 may be considered a "small phone", but at least compared to the size of my 13 mini it's hard to truly say it's a true "small phone" when it should be more labeled as a compact phone when compared to the Pixels and Galaxies on the market.
and it's not even that compact compared to Galaxies. Zenfone 10 is almost the same size as Galaxy S23 even tho S23 has a 6.1" screen.
@@dimglow Indeed, the Zenfone 10 body could easily fit a 6" screen if the bezels weren't comically large.
I'm looking at upgrading my SE to the 13 mini before new models come out. UNLESS Apple comes out with a 15 mini... Take my money.
@@guillaumemuller-greven1425Yeah, forget about the Zenfone 10 and get the iPhone 13 Mini, if you want an actual small phone.
@@JohnSmith-gb8hd The battery life of iPhone 13 is abysmal though. Highly recommend carrying around a portable MagSafe battery and keeping it charged each day.
Eager to buy this phone!!
Iphone mini is the best small phone of all time, it’s a shame they discontinued that model
The iPhone 13 Mini is still modern, still being sold, and will get updates for longer than a future Zenfone 12.
@@JohnSmith-gb8hd it is still an older generation, apple should be upgrading it year to year like other iPhones
Agreed
I bought one and it's a great phone but has one big problem - BT connectivity, and specifically with earbuds. I've tried with various Sony, Pixel, Technics and Samsung buds and all suffer audio dropouts unless there is clear line of sight between the two. Just popping the phone into a pocket or trying to use in a busy area causes signal drops. For me that's a big issue since I listen to a lot of podcasts and audio when walking and commuting. Hope it's a firmware fix. For reference a Pixel 7 and S23 Ultra are fine in the same situations.
I have one and haven't had any drop outs for any of my Bluetooth devices, even from rooms away
@@Yoda0VGs There was a software update today which claims to improve stability and so far it does seem a lot better....
Favorite thumbnail so far
Andrew, I have the 9. I'm having security issues with contactless pay. Is that because it's not released us? Do you have any issues? I'm thinking I got a software that had been tampered with.
It's the best phone for someone like me who's using a phone for all Phone-ey things like texts, social media and casual TH-cam at max and throw in a few games here and there. Otherwise for proper games and media I use the Mi Pad 6 and for work I use my 14" Laptop!
I wish it was available in India would have been so great 😅
May I know when the phone is available to buy in USA?
just bought this phone and it's coming in the mail today. I was waiting for something that I could one-hand for such a long time and I'm really excited to have it back. So sad that Asus is killing this line tho.. :(
asus made an official statement & said there not killing the zenfone line
699 USD isn't that crazy to me. compared to the 799 S23, this doesn't have a telephoto, has somewhat noticeable and uneven bezels (not a big deal to me, but it's there), selfie cam isn't great, the plastic back is cheaper (even if I much prefer the look to S23), capacitive finger print scanner (not worse, but it is cheaper), very minimal-to-no-marketing, and, here's the BIG thing that actually matters: only 2 years of updates. 3 of OS and 4 of security should be the minimum imo.
Having the Pixel software features on this hardware would be amazing.
Pixel should've stuck with the snapdragon chip. I have the Pixel 7 and the battery life is eh. I would say it's a 7/10
@@DJ_S-3-R-G maybe when they release the fully custom tensor chip (with the pixel 8?) it'll finally pay off.
Chocolate colour would look great
What do you recommend , the Zenfone 10 or a Pixel 7 ?
Bummer that it doesn't work with Verizon still. Glad it finally has wireless charging though!
how does the base galaxy s23 compare to this?
Great review and analysis as usual Boys. Good job!
This is the obvious replacement for my S10e
Mine is also the flamingo pink!
Are you all using the 8G variants or did Asus send you guys the 16GB versions?
No green 8gb ram option
Its a shame that it lacks a sd card slot. Hope that Asus would fix that issue.
I've been using the Pixel 4a since the last 3 years. So, if we rate pixel 4a as a 6/10 phone considering camera, battery, overall performance & experience - which phone would be a good upgrade for me withing 40k and be rate at 8/10? Kindly keep in mind, I'm used to pixels camera and user experience so definitely would want to top that + beast battery life
Many thanks & good luck
I wonder what a bigger version of this phone would be like?
It would be the total flagship killer that would completely take the market by storm.
It is the exact size as the galaxy s22 and s23 witch is 6.1. So its not the smallest flagship. The bazels are to big. Only thing i like is battery size and headphone jack. If the phone was as small as the display, i would get it. For now. 13 mini is in mt cart
If they make sure that all large cell providers in my country support it for wifi calling my next phone will almost definitely be a zenfone
S23 should be better right? How come you don't mention it?
They don't know. As a tech youtuber he should be ashamed
They do this on purpose.
The battery life on the s23 (regular version) is a joke.
@JesuMaita I have the regular s23 and I got 7+ hours of screen on time yesterday
Over 69mm straight disqualify as compact.
And stop complaining as we hold phone by vertical, not horizontal
How the fk 71mm on s23 considered as compact
Has anyone tested how bright the flash is? (For torch use)

I am literally fuming that they arent releasing that gorgeous red on black model in Australia, we're not getting the whole model line-up unfortunately. Then again it is really hard to pass up the ZenFone 9 at $599 AUD (roughly $400 USD) right now.
It just needs 4 years security support on the next model and I'd buy it
Zenfone 10 is fantastic. It's really not that tiny, either. Very workable size.
I've loved my Zenfone 9 with the exception that google assistant frequently is unresponsive and I have to close the google app from the app info settings to get it to reapond again.
Otherwise compared to the S21 FE and even S22 I've loved this guy.
The zenfone 10 is like 2mm narrower than the iphone 14, the default iphone is just as small so not seeing why the se and mini were compared here
Yea lol the 14 and 14 pro are more comparable to this thing
It’s cause any bit smaller is uncommon and impressive these days tbh
I've been looking for a while now for a phone to replace my galaxy s10e. I believe this may be the one 💍. Well done, Asus
This phone seems custom made for me! I think it would sell more if it was around 600 - I got the 9 at that price thanks to the new model coming out.
I'm loving the software, the size, the build, the looks, all the asus features.
I'm only not seeing good battery (I'm still in the first week though), and I can't get the double tap to work.
S23 is the same size as the zenphone 10 why not one compare them both
They aren’t the same size
S23 is 6.1 inch not 5.9 inch like the zenphone
@@nafeeahnaf6296 dood you are confusing between display size and divice size even though device size is same s23 have bigger display because it has smaller bezel
Should I buy Zenfone 10 or pixel 8?
You convinced me to buy Asus! Thanks!
It has almost the same dimensions of the Samsung Galaxy S23. The most small phone should be Samsung Galaxy S23 in 2023.
Almost the same dimensions 😂
73mm width is almost the same As 69mm.
Nice joke from s23 users.
@@fantasytky28 it's 70.9mm wide, but Zenfone 10 is much thicker and even a bit taller. If not the banana blur issue of S23 I would've got one.

What I want too
I don't really care for wireless charging but I'm sad no sdcard slot
For the algorithm. ✊
Such an endearing phone
We want to buy it in India , but it's unavailable here
If they support Qualcomms Satellite Messaging announced earlier this year I'll be sold.
The lack of long-term software support is a bummer. Only 2 years is so low and not mentioned enough when talking about these phones
Does it really make a difference? Because even if your phone isn't supported with the latest Android version, it would still run perfectly especially with a Flagship chip. Are we overhyping sofware updates?
Review Lava Agni 2.
S23 for me.
I sold my S23 Ultra and bought a S23. The compact size is refreshing.
alright! i can now afford to buy a zenfone 8 😅
I'm trying to decide between the Asus Zenfone 10 and Nothing Phone 2 as my secondary Android device. They seem to cost roughly the same, any recommendations on which to go with? I'm mostly interested in a 'fun' phone to use and am looking to mix it up as I replace my Pixel 6 Pro.
Same here. The nothing phone 2 would be a more fun experience with the glyph and all the software features designed around that. The zenfone 10 is more of a traditional android experience, no bells nor whistles.
A thing that has me leaning a bit more towards the Nothing phone is software support. It will have 3 years of os updates vs the 2 on the zenfone. And Nothing software updates improve their phones' performance quite a bit over time.
At the end of the day, it all depends on your priorities when using a phone. The Zenfone is a better value for your money imo but the Nothing phone is more fun to use.
Between the two, camera is deal breaker on Nothing phone 2. On Asus, it would be the 2 years android os updates only. So pick whichever one isn't a deal breaker for you. Also, nothing is 6.7" vs 5.9" of Zenphone.
S23,13mini
I really like waveform/mkbhd/the studio over other tech channels and podcasts because they are less snarky about tech and more earnest and positive generally. It is very refreshing in a space that thrives on snark and negativity.
Podcast 🥱 storyteller talk
My Pixel 5a bricked ao I'm planning on replacing it with the Zenfone 10 and with a different carrier . Im on Verizon and they don't carry Zens . I had an Alcatel ASUS fone as my first smartfone and thought it was so powerful for a really cheap fone .
tbh you say you hate the window splitscreen but you using it for a month. it takes time to get used to those things and like it. i had it too with my xperia 5ii the splitscreen mode. it felt so weird but i did see some positives from it so i kept using it and at some point it was so nice.
the s23 is smaller than this and has the same chip what is going on 😭
I like smaller phones but the iphone mini was too small for me. Can you still enjoy watching videos on this?
the Oppo Find N2 is actually the smallest Android phone, for every dimension except thickness. It actually beats out the Galaxy S10e and iPhone 13 Mini on dimensions, and is almost as small as Sony's (r.i.p.) xz_ compact line. It is a damn shame that the next iteration is getting a size increase
That phone is a folding phone, no? No way it's smaller than this phone / 13 mini
@@manzinin1070 I'm talking about when its folded closed. Everyone calls flip phones "compact" because they fold into a small square, so Oppo Find N2 while folded is game. And it is smaller than the Galaxy S10e and almost reaches Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact size. It is also only .5mm taller than the iPhone Mini, but is also comfortably wider, only by a smidge.
for EU at 800€ it's just expensive but great device nonetheless
they should make Zenfone 10/11 Plus, so more people that want bigger screen could get into ASUS, so they could continue make great compact phones
Porbably it would even outsell the Standard Version :D
The S23 is about the same size and packs a bigger screen and better cameras
Looks like they have never heard about that device :/
but the battery is trash from the S23 that's why I'm going for the Zenfone10
Have both s23 and zenfone 9, s23 wins in camera and battery is actually good too. Really love the Z9 but the audio when using a Bluetooth headset is horrible.
@@aronmagnusson7713haven't been paid to shill it, you mean.
It’s really sad that we have gotten too the point where an almost-6” phone is now considered “small”. It’s not. It’s bigger than an iPhone X which I got rid of because it was, in my opinion, too big. The only small-ish smartphone on the market still is the iPhone mini and SE.
The Zenfone 10 is actually as tall as the 6.1" phones, due to the huge bezels.
It’s not bigger than the iPhone. X it’s taller by 3 mm but it’s 3 mm less wide. and width is what really matters for holdability
Asus could have made this the same size as the S23 added a telephoto lens and this would have been the best Android phone out!
Absolutely amazing thumbnail xD
When it comes to android, especially at this price point, what's the point of getting anything but a Pixel ?
The Zenfone 10 does look like my ideal phone - and I’m a fan of MKBHD however does anybody else feel that this video feels like the Asus Shopping channel - Was it sponsored?
Baffling that there are not many other small phones. If one wants a small phone, it is either this, or the iphone mini.
2 years of android updates is a bummer tho
You get 4 years of security updates however.
No complains? Only 2 years of updates? Total dealbreaker.
These techtubers only think from their own perspective. They switch phones all the time so updates don't matter at all to them.
Shit this is hard i might want this instead of the pixel 8
Only 2 years software updates tho. That's a bit of a deal breaker...
I've been thinking about going back to Zenfone..
699?! In Europe it's like 800 euros :(
My only issue is the 1080p screen
1080p is actually perfectly fine for medium-small phones, you don't notice any difference switching to 1440p because the pixel density is already high.
Even the steam deck with 800p looks sharp enough
@@ark14700 you know what that's a good point, I didn't think about PPI.
RIP
The only downside is they don't have more than 2 years of support and update 😢😢😢
S23 is small phone too ? in some area better than Zenfone h2h comparing wold be perfect :D
Also iPhone 14 and 14 Pro
Anything over 69mm please stop calling them compact or small phone.
Disqualified as compact in the first place.
Under screen finger print sensors are in my opinion the worst "innovation" in modern smartphones. They are slower and are harder to find when taking it out of your pocket than other solutions
Coming from a Pixel 7 I have this zenfone 10 now for 3 days. Instantly loved it. Compared to the Pixel everything works perfect. The overall performance is better, batterylife is better and my favorite: that goddamn fingerprint sensor works fast and precise. I registered two fingers twice to make it even better. Hated that on the Pixel. Multiple times a day the fingerprint sensor won't work correctly and several apps don't like that at all, disabling the biometric unlock feature automatically. Very annoying. Got some meaty hands but the size of that thing is perfect. Absolutely usable with only one hand. After being very disappointed from Pixel 6&7 and trying an S22 in the meantime I'm now finally happy with my phone.
Hi, I also have the Pixel 7 currently since last year and I am kind of feeling let down by it. Software experience and the camera are amazing on but the fact that I can't go through a day without charging it is crazy. I barely have apps installed and with very moderate usage it can't go through a day. Modem is still bad and I get connection issues. It really seems like google still hasn't figured out the hardware on this phone. How do you like the Zenfone 10 compared to the pixel after some time? If the cameras are at least decent then I would switch instantly.
@@danielmocanu2848 the camera could be a bit better. But overall I'm very satisfied. It feels like this is the best phone I owned for a very long time. Nothing that annoys me, everything works.
I have the pixel 7 now and I've been thinking about trading it in for the zenphone 10. I miss my pixel 5 size.
Watching this on a Zenfone 10 😎
I never understand about small phones ,phones should be ergonomic ,fit in your pocket easily portable ,if you want something big get a tablet
$1000+ in Canada 😢
Again, like all the cool phones coming out recently, this doesn't work on Verizon. I really regret signing up with Verizon.
I wish we got it in South Africa, it would be the perfect upgrade for my mom, which is using the s10e
It’s a shame it isn’t supported on Verizon 😭😭😭
If you don't care for wireless charging, should people buy Zenfone 9 instead for the camera?
