Spooky
It's crazy that after a century trench warfare would return and somehow become scarier than WWI
Well it's a whole new, or back to an old, world out there. I mean my grandpa probably fought there during the beginning of the Polish Soviet War in 1919.
People never learn.
I went from watching, "Plok boss theme", to, "how to bandage hemorrhaging wounds", in less than 5 years.
Instructions unclear. HOA pissed with my new training trench
Clearly you don’t have enough barbed wire to keep the HOA out
🤣 I see what you did there
Training trench🤣 bruh that was not in my expected vocabulary for today.
Harden your location till HOA is repelled
Resist and entrench even more 😂
"Putting holes in people bringing them down like sacks of shit" That's the most british commando line ever
Daisy chained through wood blocks eh mate. Russians are still shooting out at the other trench and youre cutting corners and taken em down

He sounded like a freaking psycho for me at that moment
@antonkovalev4151 yes. But war is hell
I’m a civilian but a hunter and I loved the way he admired the stopping power of his rifle. Nothing like bullet diameter and kinetic energy.
In my 8 yrs in the infantry (88-96) I went from trench and bunker assaults to air assault maneuver warfare to COIN operations. Now it's back to trenches, with the added spice of drones! This was a fascinating presentation.
I was in 84 -90 infantry prince of Wales div I question the validity of these guys Walt’s with BB guns in the beacons ? Just don’t seem to cut it ?
@@davebarber9510all the BB gun stuff is gun but as you know well, it's skills mixed with discipline, grit and determination you need, pulling that all off when cold, tired, hungry and scared. Airsoft doesn't prepare you for that.
No kidding! Aside from seeing “saving private Ryan “ and such I have had the privilege of living a long life absolutely devoid of any sort of violence. We are blessed here on the home front.
Trench warfare is always the worst, spend more time digging mud than anything else. But them shit days on on them static defensive exercise’s might pay off
@@c.jthompson4611 Stage 3 trenches on SPTA, basically 10cm of soil then you are chipping away at solid chalk, head to toe in white dust and looking like a ghost / clumsy baker. However, it is definitely good practice to learn the skills and drills.

@@Nowhere888 As a Ukrainian it gives me some hope to see people like you realizing the threat it actually carries
Quick Summary:
1. Kit
a. Body Armor and Side Plates due to artillery.
b. Lots of Admin and Dump Pouches.
c. Microfiber cleaning cloth for Optics fogging up.
d. Foam padding for protecting NOGs
e. At least 2 fragmentation grenades and smoke grenades for trench warfare carried on person.
2. Drones
a. Defensive positions need top cover with heavy reinforcement and netting to prevent drones from flying in.
b. Offensive assaults need to immediately seek concealment under brush if in the vicinity of a drone. Retreat immediately if spotted to avoid artillery strike.
c. Old school shotguns with bird-shot to shoot down any drones.
3. Mines
a. Single file patrol formation for the mine threat.
b. Spacing 5 to 10 meters apart to mitigate threat of exploding ordnance.
c. Look down for un-buried mines and up for drones.
d. Use rigid stick to detect tripwires in a cross, i.e. up down side to side, movement
4. Trench Fighting (it's back)
a. Assault by closing with the enemy quickly, i.e. run, and using fire superiority by blasting everything in sight using up all your magazine's ammo.
b. One group assaults and the other provides suppressive fire when assaulting a trench.
c. Cover corner, throw grenade, and then approach corners.
d. Trenches booby-trapped with radio detonators (so use Thor jammer).
e. Don't risk taking prisoners due to conscripts having no valuable intel in trenches; take prisoners for intel if able.
f. Safety rounds, i.e. shoot any enemy body you see to make sure they are dead. Russian are playing dead then throwing grenades.
g. Speed, surprise, aggression.
5. Weapon Setups
a. 308 for rifle.
b. Optics for short and long distances.
c. Don't use lasers designator to avoid being shot at by a tank.
d. Night vision and thermal absolutely essential for fighting at night. "If you don't have night vision, you are phocked."
6. General Advice:
a. Enemy quality varies tremendously.
b. Enemy probing to locate your position with conscripts then followed by enemy artillery fire or highly trained SVR in gillie suits.
c. Tape up camera lens so not visible to IR detection and subsequent tank fire on your person.
d. Use ponchos to view any electronics due to IR signature and subsequent tank fire on your person.
e. Aperture detection, i.e. cover up the end of your optic with tape so only a small slit (so a sniper doesn't shoot you or a computer shoots a laser in your eye) with the Killflash Anti-Reflection Devices" product.
7. Artillery
a. Heavily used and detected with sound signatures.
b. Fragmentation consistency is poor compared to Western rounds.
c. Get prone immediately if hit with artillery, i.e. hit the deck, (by wearing knee and elbow pads that allow you to drop immediately and repeatedly).
d. Constantly look down (for mines), then up (for drones), and around (to remember the nearest piece of cover in the event of artillery).
8. Words of Wisdom
a. Get trained and take the training seriously.
b. Basic training ensures survival.

Through NVGs you can see peoples phones very clearly in pockets and under other pieces of clothing, it is extremely bright. I also recommend taking very good care of your NVGs, there are a bunch of different ways to create faults in your intensifier or cause any misalignment. I am sure you can find a declass publication describing different intensifier damage and how to identify it. Also take time to ensure everything is adjusted, especially your collimation. I love when people know exactly what they are talking about and Garand Thumb never misses.
Maybe you can explain why we're using thirty year old image intensifier tubes and the entire industry hasn't advanced any since I was born?
Can you? Because I used NVGs for four years and I never could see someone’s phone in their pocket. Nor could I with IR binos.
So question for you then, if phones are so easily visible under NVG's, what's a good way to actually conceal that, so your phone doesn't give you away? And is it an issue with those chest phone mounts when you're under NVG's?

For tripwire detection, you can also modify the stick method with a 3-4 foot length of paracord or flagging tape. Let it hang down from the end of the stick and watch for the flagging to begin to bend as it catches the wire. Flagging is super light so less likely to set off the wire.

Mike, I want to truly thank you for this information. As you said this is invaluable. Tho I love your entertainment videos, I feel like this may have been your best video ever given the information you have provided us with.
🙌
Imagine the amount and intensity of FABs, lancets, FPV drones and artillery cannonades being dropped over there. Terrifyring
Don’t sound fun.
Lotta bro vets met their end to that.
Don't need to imagine, there's plenty of video of it; both sides have gopros and surveillance drones ... It's almost like battle footage is being censored in the west ..... You know like all those images of dead Gaza children you dont ever see in the news

It’s safe to say the average combat vet in the US hasn’t fought against a peer enemy like that in a very, very, long time.
Solid video. Thank you GT.
Really impressive work you're putting out. Thank you for offering all this great information for free.
"Extra love" has a new meaning for me now. Thanks for showcasing this stuff. Invaluable knowledge, that might be free to us, but it was purchased dearly originally. And we would do well to always remember that.

Wow, best show ever! Guys that was fantastic thank you!
These dudes admit to being Geneva convention war criminals from 52:40 to 54:00
I was an army infantryman during the 2010’s. I served with several Ranger battalion and SF guys. Based on my experience, I gotta say after watching the live fire these guys are good. Very good.
Well, you guys lost to the Taliban, and these guys are losing to the Russians, so evidently neither of you are *that* good. 🤷
Yea but Patrick the career used car salesman from Ohio said these guys were clueless and Russia has conquered Ukraine 4 times in the last 2 years.
@@AndyAdventuring
Patrick sounds like a cool dude. Not like those loser NATO stooges who just lost Avdeyevka. 😄
Getting first hand perception & experience from a modern conflict is absolutely priceless!
Unconventional warfare & tactics always seem to return to the basic principles of combat training.
Lots of "Gold Nuggets" in this video, however it ultimately returns to mastering the basics with training.
Mad respect for sharing!
Unconventional warfare is basics, thus never goes away.
Most of what is happening in Ukraine the US military anticipated or was already doing decades agao. Just not on this scale since the US has the best airpower in the world, bar none.
Imagine the mouths salivating from the MIC & military leaders who get to use it as a testing ground/ rat maze for their new weapons and tech 😂
I highly recommend yall look into pro apto anti thermal imaging ghillie suits and reov camos soon to be released anti thermal poncho.
Also remember these guys have resupply lines. American citizens during war will not. So having alot of ammo of 11 plus mags is key
@callsignjoker2686 what are you talking about, why wouldn't american soldiers have resupply lines? That's warfare 101. Establishing and protecting supply lines.
@@callsignjoker2686 I stock up a bit more than the average person but what war should American citizens be prepping for might I ask ?
Good vid brother, and good interview with these 2 gentlemen, picked up on things I didn't know and expanded on topics I knew but could improve on, god speed gents and beers on me, oh to the bro that loves Warhammer *cheers i see you are a man of culture and taste, im a kriegsman myself.

Garand, thanks for showing and teaching. You may keep some of us alive in the future. Hopefully we won't get there, but this type of information is crucial for everyone to know.
Man, couldn’t thank these dudes enough. So bad ass
My great grandpa said the same thing about artillery during ww2. Those guys learned the different types of guns that were being used against them just by the sounds. And when the whistle was louder you better find some cover. Great video!
I'd think it's harder in Ukraine than in WW2, since they are pretty much using the same soviet weapons...
Until you get differently fused ammunition fired at you.
@@PrograError He's talking about what caliber and at what distance and how far the round is hitting the ground from you, not the enemy or friendly. A missfire from behind your own line is probably very noticable and the same principles count.
...imo its pure luck. Theres no way anyone could tell wether a shell is going into his proxymity while there's combat noises all around.
@@dimitri-petrenko the problem is the lines are messy and with ops running all the time you probably can't particularly tell if that's a rusky bunking 30 m Infront or your mate bird shooting...
This channel is chaotic in the best way possible. We can go from irl video game trick shots to the cutting edge of modern trench warfare.
The only reason we've gone back to trench warfare is because it's well-armed white guys versus well-armed white guys again for the first time in 70 years, except this time it's in open fields unlike the majority of WW2, where trenches were pointless by virtue of the Axis forces having equal (and sometimes superior) air power... Following WW2, we fought nothing but poorly trained (in comparison) men weilding poorly maintained Russian-made rifles in the tropical forrests of Asia where trenches were pointless for a completely different reason to WW2. Trenches exist when both sides have respectable weapon systems, but almost no air support, and it's not simply an asymmetrical Turkey shoot against compariatively untrained, illiterate religious zealouts who have been promised 72 virgins in the afterlife.
Outstanding. Great video
These guys, unlike a lot of so-called subject matter experts, have actually been involved in an honest to God war
GT hasn’t.
Most GWOT vets myself included, had to worry mostly about machine guns, rockets, mortars, and IED’s (occasionally vbied).
We never had to go against tank columns, attack helicopters, fighter bombers, cruise missiles, batteries of artillery, and of course, 10,000 drones per month.
Which is why the US is paying close attention to this invasion because the next war will be so much bloodier than the whole of GWOT.
Same for Vasquez and Nance
@@N7mudkipand the true reasons probably escape most. Hint hint it’s not saddam or osama but an evil cabal
This is the first real war since WW2. There literally hasn't been anyone who COULD have experience like this. Don't harp people for not experiencing things that didn't exist
More content like this please. Maybe turn it into it's own series. Interview modern warfighters/contractors and have them explain the dynamics of war and how they're changing.
Big takeaway from this video for me is how FPVs and Overwatch drones sound different. That's big information for me. I greatly appreciate you garand thumb.
@@SteveSherman-ij5gm you're daft if you really believe war hasn't changed.
@@SteveSherman-ij5gm stop trying to be a pseudo intellectual, war is constantly evolving and changing.
If you go in the russian version of youtube, there is a news channel called Zvezda. They have a video talking about the FPV drones. Of course it's in russian, but you can still see what they were talking about. FPV drones being really fast and a great threat.
@SteveSherman-ij5gm nothing about war is changing? Drones have completely changed warfare forever.
Russia won.
How is this tactically helpful?

Maybe the best vid in guntube. Massive knowledge transfer. Thank you.
Can i just say how incredible it is that we get to watch over an hour long video from 2 real combat veterans of Ukraine talking about all the shit to look out for in modern war and how to survive? Idk how you could get any more reliable and honest information than this...
Judging Freedom, you’re welcome. These two mercenaries fled a corrupt failing military they should’ve never been part of without wearing swastikas.
They should interview some Russians. Would be interesting to see if their experience is any different and what they learned, especially since the Russian way of war is a bit different.
Honestly, the way you guys create atmosphere with the audio in your edits is a subtle but impactful detail! Really brings the overall edit up to studio level!
That is because its entertainment not actual information, 😊 just enough to get the views from the viewers

Great video, and even better info
That was a good video Mike! All things noted. 🤙
These guys are smart, articulate and legit rewriting doctrine. Best content yet.
Wtf u talking about. They literally said they "found out" doing all the shit they made fun of in training turns out to work lol. If by "re writing" doctrine you mean writing exactly what was already written about conventional warfare, ok... WOAH turns out TANKS AND ARTILLERY KILL INFANTRY! This is groundbreaking stuff! Turns out trenches protect you from explosions and shrapnel/spal? Crazy.
haven't been to the channel in a while and i am absolutely blown away. The production of these videos now are incredible. you should be proud
Eddie Munster......haven't heard that name in a while. Grandparents, grandfather mostly who would call me that all the time.
And yeah, Grand T has been doing some good work for sure.
What started as a great channel has become even better as he’s been able to spend more time on it. I don’t think there are currently any other TH-camrs doing hour plus videos with current combat volunteers in Ukraine, gotta love it.
Loved the video!
Exceptional content, thanks.
I was an operator on "Grad", in Russian, Grad means hail. The weapon although obsolete, in the hands of a skilled crew is absolutely devastating. We drilled to the point where it would take us 60 seconds from a tarp covered and packed to go truck, to put it into a firing position. The cadences of fire were 0.5, 0.7 and 1.0 seconds. It means that a "packet" of 40 122mm rockets could be sent in 20 seconds, lower the barrels and go away. Maximum range for our Grad was 28km, at that distance, the spread of the packet covers 1 hectar of land (100x100m); kill radius of a single rocket is 50m, or that's what was considered effective fire on target. Our battery consisted of 3-5 systems, whereas Russian can be 10-15....so yeah, if you survive that, you can have yourself another birthday.
yeah but reloading with one rocket per wooden box must have sucked
@@zeroxception It does, a truck pulls up with loaded crates, the rocket itself weighs 66.6 kgs, with the crate it's 100kgs. The barrels have to be angled, one of the guys climbs behind them, he is guiding the rocket into the barrel, the other two, usually bigger guys, carry the rocket and push it in, then the guide holds it at the end for the final push where in most cases other two guys are pushing his elbow because he can't (in most cases) push it in himself in order for rocket to click into the place. The final live fire when I was in training took in February 2012, it was -20 celsius, we stood there for hours before they finally fired the damn thing. The other problem was that with that temperature, you still had to open the soviet metal boxes that had metal discs that go on top of the warhead, and since they've been made at least 50 years ago, they've been sitting wrapped in a greasy paper, waxed, all that time. Naturally we had to scrape off the wax which at that point was like hardened plastic. Taking off the gloves got my hands stiff pretty soon and it was hell to get that shit off the discs...
@@jogadosthe poetic irony of the rocket weighing 66.6 kgs is amazing. Great info mate, cheers.

@@Cheesusrice69222 XD I'm actually surprised that somebody didn't assume earlier that I'm Russian, and I'm not. You might find it somewhat unusual(well, to you at least), but there are NATO member countries that operate Grad platform systems... ;)
Intersting how things come back around again. When I was active duty Army as an 11B, we always procticed trench clearing, then it was dropped from training. Now here we are.
I thinks its because the more tech we have the more ways of countering it we find, therefor we always go back to basics. This is why i dont believe that we Will ever have full autonomous fighting vehicles or even soldiers.. to easy to counter tech
