I buy the hole running vehicle for the swap , then I part out the vehicle. I don't make much profit but the engine n Trans cost less ,plus I meet a lot of people that buy the parts from me , some fun .God bless yall real good.
That's what we prefer to do too. We reuse a lot of parts from the donor vehicle, and part out or scrap the rest. They're getting hard to find! Thanks for watching! 👍
Great video, I didn't think you could get both in at the same time, but you did it ! Nice job ! Another video I'd like to see you make is swapping the Vortec truck intake manifold for a LS1 or LS2 intake which is lower in height and fits smaller cars' lower hood better . Thanks for all your great videos .
I sure enjoy your videos! Very informative. I like to see things done right! Plus, it’s pleasing to see a couple working together so we’ll!! That’s rare!🙏🏻🙏🏻
You need an A frame overhead hoist. That would be a good investment for these engine swaps. Great job on this one though. What's going in the top end of this build?
That really would be nice. We are working on another section of the shop and that would be a great addition. Definitely make life a lot easier. This is going to get a regular 5.3 intake with electronic throttle control. Nothing to fancy. Am going to keep the original battery location and a different air intake but other than that pretty standard. Thanks for watching it. We appreciate it...
The engine and transmission is picked up at a point where it is balanced in the center like a teeter totter. It takes very little effort to lift the nose of the engine up at that point. Thanks for watching.
You have a lot of faith in that engine hoist having motor and transmission hanging 5 ft in the air and working on it like that personally I'd have it much lower for all that work and sat on a milk crate or something instead if it did fall it would not fall very far in comparison to where it's gonna fall from now
I prefer to get them up there. Absolutely take every precaution to do my best to make sure it is safe. Just a matter of what your comfortable with. I do like to get them down to the ground asap though. Thanks Glenn
The stock pan sits about a inch below the k member. The owners of this truck did let me go ahead with the low profile pan on this truck. I wish we could do this on everything we work on but the cost adds up really quick. Thanks for your question. We appreciate it...
Can you fit the OE style AC compressor with these engine brackets? Do you need to trim the frame rail? Can you also use the OE fan clutch assembly? As far as the oil pan, does this setup require a low pro oil? I bought sa 2002 Chevy 2500 Truck with 72k miles on it and I'm planning to swap the 6.0 and 4L80E into it.
Hey Rubicon! Jerry makes a bracket that keeps the AC compressor in the OE location but moves it in clear of the frame rail. Here's a link to a video on that: th-cam.com/video/8uzU0dikeu8/w-d-xo.html Yes, you can use the stock LS mechanical fan clutch. At stock ride height, the stock oil pan is fine, but if you ever plan to lower it, you'll want a low pro pan. 👍 Hope we answered all of your questions! Keep them coming! --Emily
What are you all using to see gear shift indicator on the dash? I am installing a Dakota digital gauge cluster with a 4l80e and a 6.0 LS with a standalone wire harness to power those..
Thanks for watching! We wanted to use a Dakota Digital dash, but they weren't available in our timeframe for this one. We used the original shift linkage, so the stock indicator works. Here's a link to how we hooked up the shift linkage, if that helps! th-cam.com/video/jh7UkYNqVqk/w-d-xo.html We used a Dakota Digital adapter for the speedometer, oil pressure adapter, coolant temp adapter, and wired in a check engine light lower on the dash. It's pretty cool that there's no sign of an LS swap until you open the hood! 👍
Thanks for watching! That's a great question... We work on daily drivers through the week, so the LS swaps tend to get done on nights and weekends. If we didn't have anything else to work on, I think we could have a swap done in a couple weeks.
Hey Don. I went to just using the Holley low profile pan. We went with the cheaper ones a couple of time and I did not like the baffle at the bottom of the pan. It would not fit around the pickup tube without the transmission being slid back from the engine block or modifying it. Have had no issue with Holley's, so I just stick with them. Let us know what you go with and how it goes. Thanks. Jerry
What are your thoughts on the 4L60E vs the 700R4? I've heard that the 4L60E is just an electronic version of the 700R4 and from my personal experience I find the 700R4 to be a highly unreliable transmission.
They are virtually the same transmission aside from the 60e being controlled by the ecm. Both of them have their week points but as they got a little older in the production of them a lot of their issues were weeded out. You can build a 700r4 with some upgraded parts and have a really reliable transmission. The only thing I don't like about 700s is the throttle vacuum cable. When I buy 4l60e's I try to buy them later on in their production date. 2004 on up. Thanks
do you have to change the oil pan and windage tray like you guys did? i have an 88 chevy c30 dually that has the same style front crossmember and the motor is planned to be put in 6/13/2023 and been getting knowledge from you guys on what is needed
Nope, that's optional. The stock pan does hang a couple inches lower, so if you plan on lowering the truck it would be something to consider. Best of luck with your project! We appreciate you watching! --Jerry and Emily
@@UglyTruckExperience awesome. and thanks for your reply so soon. its a service truck and am hoping to increase mpg. traded the original tbi 454 for an 03 avalanche and am hoping to have it going asap lol. again thanks for the reply and the content. its been the most helpful out of all the videos i have seen.. keep up the good work
@@UglyTruckExperience would you guys happen to have a video on how to hook up the stock hydraboost and steering box to the 5.3 power steering pump and (optional?)cooler?
If you're at stock ride height, the original pan is probably fine. I have an OEM pan on my 70 C10 with no issues, and it sits lower than a squarebody, but if you ever wanted to lower it, it could be a big issue. Check out this video... This is an 85 C10 with a stock pan, so you can see how low it hangs. th-cam.com/video/TO7AwQB-2Z4/w-d-xo.html Thanks for watching, Jason!

Hello Dave. On that truck I ended up moving the motor forward one notch on my motor mounts to clear that lip. It was a close fit for sure. Thanks. Jerry
Ideally you want that 3/4 inch of clearance at the yoke with the truck sitting on the ground. If you have 1 3/4 inches now you might end up with a little vibration. Jerry
Hello Metro. You will probably have to have your driveshaft shortened. Here is a link to a video we did on driveshafts. Thanks. Jerry and Emily th-cam.com/video/hBGIVLHMeh8/w-d-xo.html

Have you ever looking into different motor mounts? There’s 2 different companies that make some really good motor mounts for these squarebody swaps and allows you to run the factory truck pan with it being level with the crossmember! One company is Tejas and the other is gowenmountain speedshop. Tejas scoots the motor 3” forward and lifts it up. The gowen mounts also lifts it up the same amount but their mounts are completely adjustable forwards and backwards. Tejas is $100 shipped to the door and Gowen with hardware and shipping was around $130. I originally started with the ict ones and the threads stripped out super easy and I got aggravated and ordered the tejas mounts and found out they had 3 week lead time so I also ended up ordering the gowen mounts because they can be here in 2 days and the owner is sending me a powder coated set for no up charge. Downfall is you can’t reuse the factory driveshaft which I wouldn’t advise anyways
We are well aware of these motor mounts. When you raise an engine say one inch up in the front, you also have to raise the tail of the transmission up another inch in order to keep that angle. If you have a body lift on the truck you can do that but when working with stock stuff it is just not possible. You have to take the driveshaft angle into account. Thanks for your comment. Jerry
@@UglyTruckExperience thank you for the reply Jerry! That is definitely something the manufacturers do not mention. Both manufacturers make their own cross members as well but don’t make any mention of differences in angles. How would you solve this other than lifting the transmission? Adjust pinion angle?
If you do not have a body lift on whatever truck you are working on there is not enough room to lift that transmission tail up that high. You really are doing yourself a favor by buying a low profile pan or keeping the stock pan if you are not lowering the truck. Keep those lower mounts as close to stock as possible. The drive shaft angle is a very big problem when you are trying to build something as a daily driver.
