I loved how taking just a small bit of length off of the back of Christines hair immediately took the attention away from the chin and lifted her face. I initially thought the blonde was better, but the darker shade did give more definition and highlighted the eyebrows, again, subtly lifting the face, 50/50. Thanks for sharing.

Love the well-groomed facial hair! It changes your face shape and also balances and sort of “integrates” the darker skin tones created by your body art to form a pleasing overall look. And I do like the contrast of your pastel shirt with the “darkness!” You can definitely rock the beard! Secondly, all the small changes you made in Christina’s hairstyle really add up to create a more flattering shape and add overall polish. I like both the blonde and the darker colors, but like you, I gravitate towards the blonde for her. I always enjoy your videos, Justin; I learn something new from each one. You definitely have the “educator” gift!

The trouble with going dark at this age is that if at some point you decide to stop coloring your hair and just go with your natural gray it's going to be a lot more of a hassle to grow out. Something to take into consideration once we reach a certain age.

First of all, I love your facial hair!! It just fits you with all the tats. Next, it amazes me what shortening the nape does to bring the whole face up and I've watched you do this over and over and it still amazes me. (It's time for my hair to change.) I actually really like the darker color on her which is different for me because I tend to think lighter is better as we age, but in this case. I have to agree with you that it's so much richer on her. I know you ultimately chose the warmer blonde color but you asked for our opinions and that's mine.

Just going to the salon today for color & deep conditioning. I've been growing out a pixie cut for 3+ years now (decided it wasn't for me). Todays video confirmed a few things for me and I'll have the back of my hair shortened a bit. Like "they" say, getting older's not for the weak. *PS Keep the beard if YOU feel good wearing it. Personally, I think a well groomed beard is very attractive.

The two suggestions I would add is perhaps do some wispy bangs so her forehead isn’t so prominent. I like your suggestion of the darker hair color but would add changing to edgy eyeglass frames to add to a youthful look.

I agree with your comments & recommendations. The problem for many of us is two-fold: One- thin, straight, stringy hair. This is very difficult hair to cut & style nicely. Two- Living where there aren't any really good hair stylists. I live in a small town & 99% of the hair dressers are from the "beauty college" up the road. They all cut hair exactaly the same. regardless of the photo, magazine, etc, that one brings in to show them. At 70 years old, I can't drive an 1 1/2 hours (one way) just to get my hair done every 3 months or so. Therefore, we just put up with the cut we get & I've come to accept that I will have unattractive hair until I finally exit this life. I'm certainly hoping God has something miraculously gorgeous for me in heaven after a lifetime of kitty fuzz.

I like your beard! I also love the reddish brown tone. I went from an ashy blonde to a dark reddish blonde for the same reasons you mentioned (skin tone) and it makes all the difference in the world. I'm 70 years old and it took several years off my appearance. I know gray roots are an issue but the Everpro powder root touch up takes care of that perfectly.

I agree with the changes you suggested for Christina. The shorter length in the back and the fullness on the top sides both accentuate her head and face shape. The warmer blonde color is my preference for her coloring but the darker brown is not a bad choice either. You made a comment early in the video that really struck me today--about seeing our hair style from different viewpoints, from the back, in profile, not just straight on. I know I am guilty of forgetting that so thanks for the reminder! Your facial hair looks awesome!

I agree with the alterations suggested for Christina’s hair. Immediately, I thought the back was too long and the front too flat. I would shorten the back even more, so it angled upward at the naoe of her neck, added fullness at back, crown, and swept away from her face. Would layers help to create more volume and movement?
As for the color, I agree with warming the tone and going a bit darker. Some variation adding high or low lights would be pretty.
Not being a hair stylist, I don't know if my vision is compatible with the texture of her hair.
I've not seen you before, so I can't comment on your beard, however, it's nicely groomed, which is the only way facial hair looks nice, in my opinion. 😊

  • @charlesdavis2165
    @charlesdavis2165 2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

Wow! Major improvement with just a few changes. My wife was curious to see how the look would change if a long top layer was cut, then blown upward, out, around with a very large roller brush. That layer would end about where the top rim of her glasses begins. Hope that makes sense...something to add more height to her face where it wouldn't appear as if her hair and glasses were all one piece. Maybe not possible since it appears she has fine hair. This lady has a high, wide forehead, and a long rectangular face shape, as does my wife. Maybe adding a little extra height might add a little extra spark??

The beard: it definitely works for you. A neat, short beard can be very enhancing!
Christina: The dark richness: is a little too dark. Maybe try color half-way between the blonde and the dark? Or do it more gradually, over a few sessions, to lessen the “shock”?
The modifications to back- look great.
The modifications to the side- to me are iffy- ? a smidge too much cut off? I like option of brushing hair a bit forward OR back, this doesn’t leave any option.
I can relate very much to Christina’s style, except that my hair is baby fine, thin, straight-straight, and is definitely high maintenance, which I hate/ DESPISE. And boat-hair or ski-helmet hair becomes an overwhelming challenge. I’d love to get your thoughts on managing those types of conditions!

The subtle hair cut changes and styling made a difference and she does look more attractive. Loved this video, and the facial hair - it works! I have lived in Portland all my life, so I understand that the beard/facial hair experiment hits most men here at some point in their life. While I’m on the heavier side, and my face puffier (is that a way to convey more weight in the face & neck - ha!), than the model here, my hair cut has a lot of similarities. You really helped me understand why my stylist, Nina, cuts the back shorter than I requested. “It’s all about the line, silly!” I’m also going to use the other suggestions, but Nina has my blond color with low lights spot on! Sorry to disagree with you but this guy certainly does not "know his stuff"
All her cut required was shaping into the neck a bit in the back, layering the top to give it body & movement & feathering at the side's & fringe to make the cut lighter & younger. The dark colour was hideous, a warm honey or caramel beige/blonde as a base, cool vanilla highlights throughout with extra added through the whole front section would have had a lifting & brightening effect to her face.
You should find a stylist you like/trust & are happy talking to, have a few trim's/blowouts & treatments with them, get used to how they work & allow them to get to know you & your hair.. when you feel comfortable with them start discussing "new look's", collect pictures of styles you like & talk to them , see what they like/dislike about your choices & together work out what style/colour suit's your face shape/ age & lifestyle
Be prepared to step out of your comfort zone, they may possibly recommend a style that you'd normally not consider but that turns out to be exactly what you need.
Remember hairstylists work in the service industry, they want you to look your best & be happy with their work so SPEAK UP if there's something you're not sure of or happy about 👍👍😘

I love my silvering hair! I was born a towhead (white), it turned light brown, then deep auburn. Now in my later years, my silver ‘threads’ literally glisten against the rest, adding dimension better than any expensive salon highlighting could do. The most important part, my hair naturally matches my coloring as time goes by, and actually brightens my profile. Though hyper wavy, I can style it any way. I did start taking Biotin, a vitamin supplement. Now, if I could just figure out how to fight humidity without flattening it all with heavy products!

I am probably in the same age group and have roughly the same color as Christina and similar hairstyle. I feel, for me, and perhaps for Christina, that if she were to go with the darker color but have a few more blonde highlights it may make her more youthful ( I got a lot of compliments when I made this change). I know as we get older, our hair should go lighter however, blonde hair can look lackluster and dry. I am glad that my hair meets the better hair choices, not longer in back or flatness (am a 70s girl, need to have fluffy hair especially since my hair is fine). However, the sides of my style do frame my face a bit and I have a "smaller" face so will explore playing with the sides to pull it off my face more and see how that goes. Thanks.

I am also mindful of my color choices in my clothing and in my jewelry which I prefer to be golden. There is no much to consider when aging, and I don't mind aging because I am thankful to be able to say I will be 72 next year; I look 10-15 years than my age and it is entirely due to my family genes and yes I will admit, I do excercise, eat healthy, and take care of myself.

When adding low-lights, you went to far on each extreem. I would hit for a blend of the color changes. Otherwise, basically the blond with a little more contrst. 2. I was itiching to get in her hair and fluff it up all over and then smooth it in style. This would give her more feminine and get away from the dowdy plain look. She needs some colored moisture foundation with gently shades of blush. Very suttle. Of course, the gently eye, only a hint, and gently color with lip stain/mat color. Her glasses are plastic and old/heavy on face. She needs a lite weight titaniumn. Maybe a crystal of some type some where on them. I would like to see her as i described and it sould be low-keyed and inexpensive, and sutle.
What do you all think? I believe that all women can be beautiful--no matter what.
Don't underestaemate the value of skin care keeping w-masking, and moisturising daily. Cheer ~~~

Such a great point Shelby! This is when the consultation should go a lot deeper. This is when we, as stylists, need to learn what you've had that you liked/disliked, how you style your hair, what you do for work, things you wish your hair would do, struggles you've been having with your hair etc etc etc. This way we can come to a style together that works FOR you as well as looks good ON you.
