      Explaining in common terms to one’s hair stylist can be a challenge. What are the best words to describe what we want in a particular style? Photos are good, but what is the best way to make your stylists understand what they want?

      @@deberabaileyschroer1637 Great question and topic idea! It's tough because I typically say to always rely a pics since words have different meanings to different stylists. BUT, this does force me to think about some more universal terms that you may be able to use. Thanks!

      My question is, how to grow out a too short bob…..and still have it look good at the various stages. I went from mid back length hair to just above shoulder length bob which I LOVED. But my next trim my hairdresser went way too short and I hated it! Now I’m trying to get back to around armpit length, but I’m stuck at this length where my hair flips out and looks silly! What can I do to ease this transition, while I wait, and wait. And wait?!!

      My question is related to LOWLIGHTS. So I've let my hair go grey and I quite like it and I realize that all-over colour is harsh in older women. But after over four years of being totally grey, I'm kinda yearning for a more youthful look. So what are LOWLIGHTS, what's the grow out like, will they give me a younger, fresher look and will they look natural?

  • @mary5827
    @mary5827 ปีที่แล้ว +46

    I love these videos. I get a lot of ideas on how to style my own hair and how to talk to my stylist. So many women just sit in the chair and let the stylist decide. I know, I was one. And I'd smile at the mirror and thank her and get depressed as soon as I stepped outside. Did I want her to wave her magic scissors and make me beautiful? Yes, of course! LOL! But the biggest part of being beautiful doesn't come from your hair and makeup. It comes from within. And if you feel beautiful, well, that's the first step. Your stylist truly does want to help you get there. But they can't read your mind. You may look great in a bob, but as Justin has said, if it doesn't make you feel good, then it won't really make you beautiful because you won't be feeling it inside. I'm taking too long here, but I think many of us share the same feelings. Hopefully, watching these videos and looking at the possibilities and listening to Justin's advice will help us to better communicate with our stylists to finally get the look we've been striving for. ❤

  • @3SeasonsUSA
    @3SeasonsUSA ปีที่แล้ว +17

    I'm really upset with all the so called "anti-aging" styles! I feel very sorry for the ladies who submitted to their haircut methods. When the hairdresser is finished, they look older and less feminine. One lady's expression when seeing the final style said it all. I commented on this treatment and was shot down for speaking out. I wasn't the only person who said it.

    Thanks for another great video, Justin! The best piece of advice I got from you is showing pictures of what I like but mainly what I don't like in a particular haircut, which is exactly what I did 4 years back when I went from a waist length hair to a pixie cut. I wanted to do that all my life, the hairdresser was so grateful for explaining him what I did NOT like apart from what I liked, the result was wonderful and I owe it all to you, so thanks! Now though, after enjoying my pixie for 3 years, I'm growing my hair out again. It has just reached collar bone length and God, I hate it. It is exactly the dreaded triangle bob hair, puffy at the lower sides, no volume on top. Most of the time it looks like it's one length, although it's not. It's slightly shorter in the back but you can't really see that since my hair is thick and a little bit of wavy... they tend to curl in the lower ends but stay flat from the top till just under my ears. Plus the front layers (remember it was a pixie) have just reached my chin. What to do to fix this mess? I would gladly go back to my beloved pixie, but it WAS high maintenance and I really want to let my hair grow longer now. Any ideas?

    You always explain things in ways that I've never thought of before but it makes so much sense! I had a pixie for a short (pardon the pun) time. One cut was great and one time was not great. If I had had your tools to describe it to them, it definitely would have gone better. I grew it all out and now have PTSD about going short again. LOL. Thanks again and have a great day!

      Thank you so much! I always appreciate your feedback! I hear that a lot, people go short and then can’t find a stylist that will re-create the cut. I don’t think you’re alone and it’s unfortunate. I totally understand how short haircuts are hard to do exactly the same twice, but there should be some consistency within the shape to the extent that the client still feels great about it. I’m not sure exactly what happens there. my only thought would be that the stylist doesn’t remember what they did last time. However, at that point questions need to be asked to reaffirm the desired outcome.

    Hi Justin. Great video, again! 😊 I love the look of pixies and bixies, but guess I'm scared of me looking old in it. Probably cause my mum is having those hairstyles since ages. 😂
    I have medium-long fine hair, slightly layered. Looking for a style that's easily maintained, without too much styling involved in the mornings.
    I tried telling my hairdresser a few of the points you were always mentioning in your videos, like guiding the eye upwards etc, but I always come home with a very similar cut, and I feel bored by it. Very flat in volume.

    Here are two hair problems where I could use some advice. The first is I have different hair textures on different parts of my head. The back is thick and wavy and the top & front are thin and limp. It's hard to tame the waves nearing the nape of my neck and I can't get the top/front to hold much wave or volume.
    My second problem is I'm getting older and looking for hairstyles to minimize my sagging cheeks, jawline and neck. I find it hard to choose a style and length which suits my round face, short neck and hair texture that won't drift toward the shape of a tent as is grows out. Any suggestions are appreciated and thanks for all you do!

    Love ALL of your videos! You truly provide great information and visuals. My questions about my hair involve a baby fine texture (but a lot of it in the back) with a good bit of curl. It is less dense around the forehead and ears with cow licks on each side of my forehead. The front tends to fall forward in the center of my forehead making it hard to keep it out of my face and get volume in the front. I have had bangs for years, but lately I have been attempting to embrace a layered bob without bangs. I have tried multi-directional drying in the front and having doing off center part, along with many different products to increase the texture. The front always seems to separate and reveal my forehead with my crazy "Mickey Mouse Ear Cowlicks". Got any styling tricks for me?

    Thanks Justin, so well explained as always ❤. What recommendations do you have for hair style and length as it relates to the person’s overall height and weight? Keeping the proportion or scale as complimentary as possible while still addressing preference for a certain look. For instance, I’m 5’9” and feel like I need longer hair or my head will look disproportionately small compared to the rest of me. Thanks for the great content and being so willing to address our questions and concerns!

      Although this is not a particular concern that I have, I definitely see the relevance when I look around. It's not something that's discussed very often but it seems that either up, down or sideways, the size and volume of hair should be in balance with body size.

    • @MissMolly75
      @MissMolly75 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I like this idea! I've always been self-conscious about my body proportions compared to my hair style. I'm short at 5'3", only 115lbs, BUT I have broad shoulders. I have a woman's swimmers body. When I see pics of me with long hair, especially from the back, I feel like it makes me look HUGE. But pics of me with my pixie can do the same. I have very thick hair that tends to poof out when it's long, so that doesn't help. There must be a happy medium that won't make me look so weird proportionally.

    My question is whether this concept can also be applied to us wavy heads? I’ve been playing with slowly going shorter but it is really hard…going shorter hasn’t made my curls stronger. In fact, I’m really bordering on very wavy now that it’s just above my shoulders. I’m rather surprised about that and don’t know why this has happened. Any insight you can offer when you do your next segment on wavy hair will really be appreciated. Thanks for listening 😊 PS: sometimes I’d like to blow dry my hair straight but it then wants to frizz. Why is it some women can do both? Thanks!

    HELP! Please do a video on communicating about bangs with a stylist. I really like the numbered steps you used in this video.
    My stylist has always done a great job with color and the rest of my hair but I have never been happy with bangs. I try to ask for side part, side swept off my face and with a little lift at the roots but I walk out with baby doll bent under bangs that look so dorky at 65 years old. I don't think my bangs would be appropriate on anyone older than 7. I cringe doing errands then rush to wet them down and re-blow them as soon as I get home. I love my stylist but feel that I just don't know how to communicate what I want. Please break it down into parts (pardon the pun) like you did in this bixie video. Such a good video! I have learned so much from your videos. I love short hair! I had a pixie as a child which spoiled me forever! I grew it out into the obligatory 70s style, long, straight and parted down the middle then cut it into a shag when that became popular and have never looked back. It has taken me years to figure out what you have covered in this video and a previous one -- that a longer softer nape is more flattering on me and that width at the sides makes the top appear flat. I would like to know the difference between mousse and thickening spray and which to use for various styles. Thank you Justin!

My fault somewhat, I didn't bring a picture (and walk out, when I got bad vibes that we weren't communicating). Trust me, I'm nor a bad customer. If you have any tips for people with fine oily hair/scalp that would be appreciated. Even with only conditioning the ends, using dry shampoo and a weekly scalp cleanse I am 'lucky' if I can go two days without needing to wash it. I went with a shorter chin length cut a few months ago which I enjoy, but that also meant I could no longer pull it up to extend the time between washings. I understand repeated washing is not ideal, but neither is the oil. We all have our dilemmas, this one happens to be mine. My apologies if you have already covered this and I missed it.

    Great value video, Thankyou Justin....Thought I wouldn't mind a Bixby, but realize maybe not yet, as I enjoy wearing my hair up, now and then, sort if giving me that look anyway. Love your explanation about considering the different options for necklines. A very helpful video 😊

    What haircut will highlight and take advantage of my wavy hair?

      Wave and curl is definitely something I'm going to talk more about this year!

      Yes! And what about medium length hair that is wavy at the bottom but straight from the roots to about half way down?

    Thank you for another great vid, Justin! Always fun and informative to watch your vids. I have fine thin hair and always have probs trying to figure out which hair style is best for me! I did give my hair a perm once just to add volume but it turned out frizzy! So I decided to just let my hair grow out to slightly below shoulder length and soft bangs on the front. Been having the same hairstyle for donkey years now! I would really love to change my hairstyle but am afraid to end up in the wrong one! I wish you were nearby!!
