I have to say... I watched a number of reviews... and I would definitely encourage vendors to give you hw for review... you manage to pack a lot in a short amount of time. So thank you.
Was also thinking about your comment about siglent products over time... i have to agree, i have seen some serious improvements as time passes, and their UIs in general are quite thoughtfully done.

Thanks Scott, Was about to press the button on a SDS1204X-E from Rob but now I have size envy. That big screen would look good on my bench.
    Cheers Dave.

Thanks for the look inside, Scott. Funny to see the Rhode & Shwarz ads throughout the video bringing us a Siglent review!

Thanks for the inside look and careful teardown. Bode plot demo LOL. The internal AWG provides a stimulus for the DUT which is also used as the scopes reference and another channel is connected to the DUT output to analyse the stimulus output and then provide the Bode plot result. At some stage we'll get together and explore the Bode plot feature so you can see how it's done. :-)

I should have probably been less lazy and actually hooked it up to something to demo the bode plot, my mind at the time was focused on showing that it had the feature rather than how to do it. I'm pretty sure I said in the video it will be showing gibberish because I didn't have it hooked up to anything.

@@TheDefpom You did say that - in fact, so much so that it was annoying. OK, that's just me being "funny." But you did say it a couple of times.

Re the issue of not knowing which channels are active, the boxes at the bottom left of the screen show this. The backlit buttons only show which channel's menu is currently selected. Not sure if the R&S or Keysight work in the same way??

I just bought one of these and I'm excited about it, but I just saw the video on the new rigol 800 series The super-thin brand-new scopes. What am I supposed to do?

Have they added ASCII decode in the meantime?

    • @TheDefpom
      @TheDefpom  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

They have had ASCII decoding for ages, my old SDS2000 even has it.

I think it was only in the MSO where it was missing, using UART etc does have it.

Did you note the bridge rectifier connects to ground? That means Active feeds to ground on negative cycles.... lovy way to make smoke if someone actual has a power converter hooked as per that diagram. The ground of that diagram is the negative side of the converter NOT real ground. Could easily create serious problems for anyone not 100% competent. Agilent had similar issue for sometime.

I do not like this channel controls arrangement. I much prefer separate range offset controls. I know they try to save panel space, its just more awkward while working

    • @arnotek

I am not too keen on the idea of having to take the scope apart to change that battery. If the seal breaks, there goes the warranty. This is one reservation I have about the scope. The battery should be accessible without taking the scop apart. I assume it is used to maintain the time/date setting of the real time clock. How long do the batteries last? Hopefully longer than the warranty period.

Topics Trace rate is important as the non captured intervals lead to loss of infrequent events
Segmented memory importsnt for detail view of short event signals with large gaps. No memory depth solves absence of segmented capture
Special trigger modes can be important for soecific purposes, for example various video trigger modes, especially for digitital video
    Types of persistence modes
Modes of trace storage, capture for presentation, png, bmp, excel etc
    Reference traces, how many
Math processing , single level or multi level ( math on math function) measrement option on math traces capable to store math trace as reference
Only real sample rates or virtual, meaning trace rates limited to say 10ns/div for 1GS/s or 10ps/div in virtual mode where trace is built on repetitive traces by time shift sampling
Auto probe scale selection, ability to set other than 1x, 10x, 100x probes
Ability to label channels with signal names
As you can see there are many areas where scopes can vary

    • @tautech8196

No probe detection on these models but user definable and preset input attenuation, otherwise everything else you bring up is adequately catered for in this scope, Segmented memory too and a History more that doesn't have the blind time Segmented memory does.

@@tautech8196 segmented memory is INTENDED to throw away periods without useful signals. Typically narrow widely spaced pulses or for example to capture many serial decode messages with longish gaps in between

@@helmuthschultes9243 There are several ways to use these deep memory DSO's for extended captures and both History and Sequential memory are just additional tools to allow you to scroll through captures. The History buffer is some 200Mpts and when used with a slow timebase results in zero missed events but as always the trigger and its wise usage is the most powerful tool of all.
