    Thanks for the detailed review, Scott. I guess the old saying "You get what you pay for" applies here. Putting out reviews like this is really helpful to individuals new to electronics.

    Thank you for sharing. I am about to acquire a 100MHz scope that is the same as this and your video is going to be most helpful to me. Stay tuned as I am still learning but I am happy to hear that my choice is a recommended one. Thanks again for this helpful video.

    I wish that I had a scope like this back in the mid 1970's when I started in the electronics hobby. They are what they are and are built to a price point to make them useful and affordable to the hobbyist and designers that are starting out on a tight budget. If you want laboratory accuracy R&S will be happy to sell you a 200 MHZ scope for around $6000 USD. As will Tektronix or Keysight. You have to ask yourself how often have you had to make a very precise and accurate measurement at or around 200MHZ using your scope. For me, I can say probably never. ATB Doug.

    People get angry when I say these are toy scopes. You can't really do serious stuffs with them. If you see their official demo video, they use like 10kHz sine wave!

    Looking at the manual the observed very jittery behavior and the low number of samples seems to be due to the active real-time digital acquisition mode. This mode is active, see the selected first option in the acquire menu (15:08). Changing the first option in acquire menu to the equivalent sample mode could provides a (repeated) sample rate up to 25Gsa/s. For repetitative signals this should improve the observed quantificaton issue for high frequency signals.

    You have to give the Chineese a big hand they can make stuff shitty and sell it for a profit and provide the consumer what they want for the money. They are very intelligent folks and I love thier approach to selling products to the world market. Most people would buy this type of stuff before they would buy Sigalent or Tektronix.

    Got one of these some time ago, $NZ325 from ali. I contacted Hantek and got sent the latest firmware as I found their website and firmware info on the scope hard to make any sense of. I still cannot reconcile the numbers in the scope with the ones on Hantek's website. For what I need the scope is overkill but was a great price.
    Hope the lockdown is not stressful for you. Cheers from chc.

    Well I see you found the same problems with this scope. I have the little brother 100mhz and it's really may be 45 to 50 mhz. It's very jittery scope and that can cause you to look for problems that aren't there. It also resets setting on it's own and when I would use it I found myself having to double check setting all the time. But for me it's just too jittery to be of any real use. For the $$$ I would say just save a bit more $$ and you can get a much better scope that will be much more useful.

    you have its set to 1x in the scope... you need to set it to 10x .... . i have the same model and it does NOT do this at all, 1gs/s is quite sufficient, maybe you could try upgrading the firmware

    • @TheDefpom
      @TheDefpom  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are correct that I forgot to switch to 1x after hooking up the BNC cable, it wouldn't cause any difference apart from the voltage readings on the scope being out by 10x. I will have to check to see if there is a firmware update.

  • @cookieboi4449
    @cookieboi4449 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why didn't you use the cable which came with the scope? The EU plug had an adaptor for Aus and NZ grid supply. It was a two pin plug, i.e. no ground to the bnc. I guess the scope is double isolated, although I didn't see the sign showing such. Without the ground pin, and using a RCD / GFCI the scope should be safe I guess,,, without the ground pin... would that be correct ???

    With a 1GHz sample rate and a 200Mhz signal it's actually only 5 samples per cycle of the waveform, that's where the wobble comes from.
    They probably interpolate to get the extra points for the display.
    How does this compare with a Tektronix TBS1202C, it's apparently the same spec although the Tek has only 20k point record length?
    Thanks for the review, I'm looking to replace my old Tek analogue scope that just died!

    Hi! I'm trying to decide between the hantek dso5102p which is the 100mhz version of this scope you're reviewing, and the siglent sds1052dl+, which is 50mhz bandwidth and 500 megasamples per sec, as my beginner scope. Here in my country they cost almost the same, the hantek being slightly cheaper. I can't afford a more expensive scope, these two i'm mentioning fit in my budget and they're on sale on Amazon. Which one would you recommend me? I need something robust and durable 'cause i will carry my scope around, to college and to field practice, and i've heard the hanteks are kinda fragile and cheaply built than the siglents. On the other hand, the hantek has wider bandwidth and more samplerate. I'm taking the build quality and robustness as the main criteria in my choice between these two scopes. What do you think? Thanks for your advice!

    • @TheDefpom
      @TheDefpom  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I can’t speak for the exact Siglent scope as I haven’t used that particular one, but my gut instinct is to go for the Siglent, the ones I have used were far better than the Hantek.

    • @TheDefpom
      @TheDefpom  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As I have said MANY times, I intentionally show how someone will find it when they use one for the first time, it gives a much more accurate demonstration of how someone will find the equipment, rather than having a rehearsed and kind of fake demo.
