Some of these are examples of how your life can be destroyed by addiction. It's extremely sad when people are unable to stop themselves even knowing that what they're doing can destroy everything they have.

I think what's worse is culturally in the USA it's hard to convince people *even while armed with facts* that helping homeless at a systemic level is the only way to get people back on track and earning money, healing from their addictions, and participating in greater society once again. It costs us MONEY to NOT do anything because we lose the contributions these people could make had we helped them.

This vid reminds me of a story my parents told me. A guy set outside the local mall with a "will work for food" sign. The local news did a story on the guy, he was making hundreds of dollars a day by people giving him money, so he wouldn't do any work since he was making so much by sitting there with a sign.

My grandfather gave a guy named Chester a plate of corn muffins to paint my grandfather’s chicken coop in 1906, and Chester never did it!

We have a homeless person on our block where our shop is, we hire him to get rid of trash, sometimes have him give us tools, but we give him money not food, sometimes we give him food but we normally pay.

Some of these feel kinda preachy and puts a lot of it on the homeless person, like a layoff isn't "your failure" it's a failure of management. Management couldn't manage the business and didn't adequately preplan for business difficulties, now they need to get rid of people to balance the budget.
Also, like depression, I think it's super weird that people look at a situation that sucks and are like "Oh yeah look how they have substance abuse issues" of course they do. What else is there to do when life sucks and you're just trying to pass the time. "Oh if you just avoid everything and make every day feel like a week maybe eventually you'll be able to string together enough luck to get to be someone's minimum wage slave and in exchange for doing what they say when they say it maybe you can earn the right to live inside"

As someone who was homeless when he got a job. And who has had a friend who is homeless well he got a job. My friend that is, I can attest to mine and his work ethic that we would go in and work our butts off to make sure that place was clean spick-and-span. Because we had something to prove that we were more than what our co-workers made fun of us for that we were one of the best workers there. And I've had some horrible jobs but I will say that the jobs that I went in giving 110% at and while being on the street. And my friend did the same we made sure those jobs were treated as if they were our careers. We'd show up open up weed clean everything within the ace inch of our life you could eat off the floor essentially that's how clean it was we made sure the trash was taken out everything. If a homeless person came in and was throwing a tantrum or whatever having a bad psychological aspect so we knew how to talk with them from their viewpoint and get them to calm down relatively quick without incident and agree to leave after apologizing to everyone. then we've seen other homes people get hired one of the job and completely destroy their life a tall is a perspective of the person and how they viewit.
