The Chosen does a good job with Mary and Joseph's portrayal. They are parents who show the love, compassion, and protection that loving parents do. Both know Jesus is Divine and they follow God's guidance in dealing with all this. Thanks for another great video Brandon. Stay safe.
Just a thought, maybe Jesus as a child spoke & taught about the Jewish Scriptures showing knowledge, understanding & insight far beyond his age, but was all within their belief system. His actual ministry which commenced around age 30 brought His new message which superseded the old ways & teaching, & of course his claim to being who He was. This would have been thought of as blasphemous & threatening to the religious community as it also highlighted their bureaucracies & prejudices as well as challenging their perception of Scripture.
One of FAVORITE parts of this episode was seeing that the actor who plays Joseph in The Shepherd is the same man. I'm SO VERY GLAD they never changed him. He did a fantastic job. I love seeing his brown skin and natural hair (even if it was actually a wig).
Yesterday, I watched old movies about Jesus, 5 min to watched it, I shut down the movie. The way they show Jesus, he was looking angry, the production and writing was not good❤ Thank you Dallas for making amazing true life of Jesus, Mary, Joseph, It is real, joy ,love to watch Chosen❤ Those people don't like Chosen, Because you don't understand Bible And Jesus❤
I think The Chosen does an excellent job portraying the characters. I love how when Jesus is 12 he says to Mary the exact thing she says to him when the family is out of wine. The Chosen writers are wonderful in putting things like that together - the bookends!
Had to laugh at the end when you talked about Jewish grandmothers. I've known a lot of Jewish grandmothers myself, having grown up in the North Miami Beach area where a lot of upper middle class Jewish people lived. Many of them came from New York (Brooklyn) which added "flavor" to their words. I remember this one Jewish grandmother who came to the deli section of the grocery store in NMB, and she walked up to me where I was working and said, "Miss, I vant a pound of shredded ham." I asked her if she was sure she wanted to buy pork, and she said, "The rabbi said if it's shredded, it's kosher!" LOL. I'm serious--she said that in a Yiddish accent. Another Jewish grandmother said at a funeral "Mister, give him some chicken soup!" The funeral director said, "Madam, it won't help." She said, "It vouldn't hoit!" (Again, Yiddish with a little Jersey thrown in.) Oh, the stories I could tell! Jewish grandmothers are hilarious--but Mary seems more subdued.
I noticed that when Jesus went back to visit His mother, in Nazareth, that the subject of two of this brothers came up. It is a refreshing change to hear this series acknowledge that Jesus had siblings.
I just had a crazy thought. I wonder if one of the Pharasee's listening to JESUS in the temple was Hilliel, maybe it's what gave rise to his wanting to be a little lenient in the understanding of the laws? Just a thought 😊
Hillel would have been very old and the House of Hillel was very established by the time the 12-year-old Jesus was in the Temple. Hillel died only a year or so later. Gamaliel, his son, took his place. It's more like Hillel was already more understanding of Torah before Jesus was in the Temple.
Brandon, I heard this part differently this time around: "When your best friend is the mother of the groom..." thinking of it the other way around, with Dinah as Mary's best friend. When your best friend is mother of the Groom. (As a second meaning for putting in the line, not to erase the reason she said it to Dinah in the first place.)
I wonder whether any of those scribes and Pharisees who heard Jesus as a boy were still in Sanhedrin when He was an adult… I bet they were… is it even plausible that nicodemus could have heard him as a kid?? Wouldn’t that be a cool backstory about why Nico was so open hearted!
I don’t like how the chosen portrays Mother Mary. It portrays her as a sinner and she is not a sinner she is the Immaculate Conception. This show doesn’t portray her in a way Catholics view her; which is what I am.
Wouldn't it have been cool if they could have afforded the technology to de-age Vanessa Benevente in The Shepherd or even in the flashbacks with Lazarus and the bridle?! If they were able to age the other actress who plays young mother Mary, i think that couldve been cool, too, but of course that would mean that we would have miss the great acting from each of those women
In The Chosen, He cannot say "my hour has not come" bc I'm the show, he has already done miracles. I'm Scripture, the wedding is the first miracle therefore, it is more appropriate to say "my hour has not come". This saying implies the start of His ministry.
I'm sorry Brandon but I thought I recalled Mary being surprised that Rafi and Dinah were in Nazareth for the New Years festival and that Rafi remarked that Dinah decided they would come to Nazareth for the festival. That had me believing that they lived in Cana and were visiting Nazareth. Amen I wrong?
No it’s not exact, every Biblical scholar agrees on this basically. In the chosen Jesus would be 33 (and crucified) in 30 AD. This is a very viable date.
A.D. does NOT stand for "after death". It is Latin..."anno Domini", which means "the year of the Lord." It is the years, in the Gregorian calendar, from the time they guesstimated when Messiah Jesus was born, and that time is carried forward. Now days, the woke crowd uses the term "C.E." which stands for "common era", for the time after Messiah Jesus was born, and "B.C.E.", which stands for "before common era", as the time before Messiah Jesus was born.
The King James version, is how they spoke English in 1611. Some words, in that version, from that day, have different meanings today. Words such as "suffer". In 1611 "suffer" could mean "allow", and not necessarily mean mental, or physical pain.
The finding at the temple was Mother Mary’s foretaste of the Resurrection. Seems like an odd Gospel story but if you look at the connection to the passion and Resurrection it makes a lot of sense. Jesus is missing for three days after the Passover and this was needed because Jesus needed to be about His Father’s business. Three days or so later He is reunited with Mother Mary. In a way, Jesus was preparing her for that separation of sorts. As a Catholic, I love The Chosen’s portrayal of Mother Mary. At the very least, other Christian denominations can see why we love and venerate (not worship) Mother Mary. She had a special and unique relationship not just with Jesus but also with His apostles and disciples. The Wedding at Cana episode highlights this very much as Mary can be seen as a great helper and even a reconciler. What the chosen does great is that while it attempts to stay away from the doctrines to avoid debate, it purely focuses on Jesus’ and Mary’s love for each other which is amazing. This last season, I couldn’t help but notice the costume change of Mother Mary. In season 4 she’s wearing shades of purple, which in Catholicism-the colour purple is associated with Lent, a time of sorrow, reflecting, pondering and suffering as we approach and commemorate Christ’s passion and death. In a sense, Mother Mary wearing purple mirrors her inner feelings and thoughts as we approach the passion arc. She is feeling the weight of it of what is to come. Absolutely well done 🙏
If Mariam (Mary) is merely "venerated", then why does a catholic church, in South America, have an image of her hanging on a cross, instead of Messiah Jesus?
17:39 "When your best friend is the Mother of the Groom, you'll be early for the feast too!" No doubt my friends, no doubt! I like how they slipped that in there, heh heh heh. Wish our Protestant brethren would realize this Spiritual Reality too!!

Hi Brandon, first I want to thank you for your help in explaining these things to us, I love all your videos. This one part saddens me and I know I am probably wrong but, I just feel that Jesus was not ready and didn’t want to start what would be “ the beginning of the end “ for him. I know it was “ written “ and had to happen, but it broke my heart when he said “ Father I am ready “ , because he wasn’t ready, his Mum made him do it!! I kinda resented her for that. I wonder if anyone else felt like I did? Also the disciples explaining how the stone was cut and there was no turning back. Just made me sad. 😔
No Jesus was born before the AD/BC switch. Yes this is confusing 😆. I do think this date is wrong for the chosen timeline, but Jesus is 12 here in this scene.
@@TheChosenSleuth Huh! Didn't know that. I always thought AD started at Jesus' birth. Guess I need to educate myself on AD/BC more! Maybe a topic for a future Snipelife video?? ;)

@@TheChosenSleuth I invite you to watch a video posted by the St. Paul centre, on 12th July 2024. It's entitled '7 verses every Catholic should know.' Dr. John Bergsma explains beautifully the teaching of Mary's divinity in his 5th scripture. I know it's a hard teaching. I myself chose to move away from the Catholic faith at some point. But after prayers for revelation God impressed the truth of this to me in very real ways. Not asking you to change your beliefs but just to be open to understand why this is a solemn truth for Catholics since the 30-40th century. As a man of faith holding an influential office through this channel, I pray you will take this on as a responsibility and keep an open heart. God bless you and your ministry. Really appreciate the work you're doing on this channel.
Some faiths venerate Miriam (Mary) more than others. They also pray to her, to intercede for them, to Jesus...not Biblical, but some faiths put their own traditions, and edicts, on the same level as Scripture. Jesus warned about that, when He said they teach as doctrines, the traditions of men.
Love Raj Bonds Joseph. So handsome and humble. Perfect for this character and plays him beautifully ❤

Yeah! The makeup artists are really good at their craft too!
For sure! Subtle aging signs and worry lines! Great work!
I’ve always wondered why the priests in the temple were awed by 12-year old Jesus’ teaching, but they hated adult Jesus’ teachings.
More open hearts i suppose. Maybe they approached him more humbly because he was a child
