    The bloopers at the end of a Jackie Chan movie are great fun to watch themselves. Really highlights how he did his own stunts, especially on movies where he does injure himself doing them.

    Jackie Chan has made a LOT of movies. They've gone through various phases as he's aged. He's still making movies but doesn't crank out constant hits like he used to.
    This phase in the mid 90's to early 00's when he started making movies in Hollywood is the one Americans know best but he was already in his 40's. (Also because of various union and safety laws, they couldn't *let him* go full out on his stunts.)
    *In his prime* in the 80's and early 90's he *revolutionized* action film-making. The ones you REALLY need to see are:
    Police Story I - IV (Police Story III AKA "Supercop" Police Story IV AKA "FIrst Strike")
    Project A I & II
    Armor of God I & II
    Dragons Forever
    Miracles: The Canton Godfather
    Drunken Master II

      Yup, well said. IMO he hit his action-movie making stride with his Hong Kong movies in the mid-80s, when he had more creative control and his own stunt crew to work with. Mary mentioned 'dance-fighting' -- JC and his team have their own rhythm for action scenes that even other good stunt performers and martial artists find hard to adapt to.
      Also, he did a lot of really dangerous stunts in that period, that Hollywood would not let their stars do (except if you're Tom Cruise and produce your own movies). Broke countless bones and was probably uninsurable!

    • @nirfz
      @nirfz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Always liked that at the end of his movies he always had bloopers included, where you could actually see him really doing the stunts, and that life isn't a movie and not everything works the first time.

      He does MOST of them, but there are some he doesn't. For example, in Dragons Forever, during the slow-mo kick he does against Benny the Jet, you can tell it's very clearly not Jackie. Also during the fight under the train in Drunken Master 2, if you pause you can tell it's not him.
      He does the vast amount of them, and definitely the most dangerous ones, but it's not 100%

    • @cherylcohen5700
      @cherylcohen5700 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      During the fight scene filming in Dragons Forever, both Benny and Jackie got pretty beaten up & both were doubled in a couple of places. Jackies ankle was injured so badly (again) that he couldn't flex it without excruciating pain. It was either halt production & put people out of work or let someone else who could make the kick look good on camera do the job and keep the cameras rolling....the scene was obvious and it dorsn't look like they even tried to hide it...This is what happens when you DON'T let ego get in the way.

    • @cherylcohen5700
      @cherylcohen5700 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Most all his "doubling" was done was usually due to injury, mundane things that wouldn't show his face anyway (back of head, etc) or something he wasn't trained to do that might injure someone if done incorrectly (the motorcycle stunt riding through glass cases in Police Story). A proffesional mororbike rider was used because Jackie wouldn't risk the life of his stuntguy doing it hinself

He's been diagnosed with ADHD, OCD, PTSD, and a slew of other mental & emotional hangups. It's amazing how he deals with them on a daily basis. James Bond is a good one to watch from the beginning (Dr No 1967) because you get to watch the evolution of "cool" and big-budget action filmmaking, and get to see how the iconic "man's man" develops from the 60's through today.

    • @ieyke
      @ieyke 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      While true, I think it's smarter to start with Daniel Craig's movies and sort of see the fully realized potential of the franchise, and then go back and watch a subset of the previous movies and watch the evolution of the franchise.
      But unless she's super into James Bond, 28 movies is an awful lot of movies to watch.
      It's not like the MCU where they're all tightly connected and you need to know anything that happens in them from movie to movie. (Aside from the Daniel Craig movies, which are all very very connected.)
      Like the MCU constantly makes the investment in watching everything worth it, but watching all 28 James Bond movies.........there are just some that aren't worth watching, and they don't really pay off later on either.
      You can really trim out about half of them.

    One of Jackie’s movies that really surprised me because there wasn’t much comedy in it. Something of a dramatic role for Jackie Chan with his iconic martial arts as well. “The foreigner” is what the movie is called. It is much more recent of a film than many of his classics. I dont wanna describe the movie in terms of spoilers, but it’s also probably considered a crime/thriller. It surprised me because what it showed is that Jackie still has all his skills even after all hes given us in his lifetime, while also showing us he has some serious acting chops with comedy not part of it. Not discounting the comedy action roles, but i just loved seeing him acting and not necessarily relying on humour. Thought id offer another movie for the pool of suggestions : The Foreigner

    Also, regarding James Bond, I'm an old Bond buff as far back as the 1980's so I recommend:
    1 'From Russia With Love' - skip 'Dr. No', you can go back to it if you become a fan
    2 optionally 'Goldfinger' - the most famous Connery movie, but doesn't really do anything new. Watch it if you want to see 'Austin Powers', it'll establish some jokes
    3 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service' - the 2nd Bond actor, establishes the foundation for the most recent Bond movie, 'No Time to Die'
    4 optionally 'Live and Let Die' - if you want to see the 3rd Bond actor, Roger Moore, who was *the worst*
    5 optionally 'Moonraker' for some peak silly Bond and to inform 'Austin Powers' movies if you watch them later
    6 optionally 'License to Kill' - for a sample of the 4th Bond actor. Or skip Dalton altogether.
    7 optionally 'Goldeneye' - 5th Bond actor, hasn't aged well, personally I prefer 'Die Another Day' for a Brosnan pick, but the Bond franchise was suffering by this point. You can safely skip Brosnan too.
    8 'Casino Royale' - must watch. Best Bond movie.
    9 'No Time to Die' - great Bond movie but you must watch 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service' first or the emotional impact will be much weaker.

    Jackie's American films are entertaining, but the 80's and early 90's Hong Kong action comedies that made his name are all-time classics. The comedy and action choreography in films like POLICE STORY are simply mind-boggling. Hollywood Jackie is Jackie at half speed.

    C4 is an explosive. I’m no expert, but my understanding has been that the whole thing about C4 is how stable it is. You’re not supposed to be able to set it off without a detonator. You should be able to fire bullets into it all day long without anything exploding.

    "Rush Hour 3" is worth the watch, but IMHO...that one lands more on the silly side.
    As for Your Question about where to start with Bond Movies... Most people will (no doubt) insist that you start all the way back to the 60s, with Sean Connery's "Dr. No." But honestly, 25 movies later is quite a long investment! These days, I'm finding that most people are particularly drawn to whichever actor was playing Bond at the time they were born. Knowing that you were a 90s kid, I'd recommend that you start with Pierce Brosnan's "GoldenEye" ('95)! I myself was an 80s kid, and so it was Timothy Dalton's "The Living Daylights" ('87) that first made me the fan I am today!

    I don't know how well they'd do as reaction videos on TH-cam, but his older stuff is where the comedy action fighting really sings since Hollywood made him take more precautions. But I think the block between most people and those movies is that they're often either subbed or poorly dubbed. After getting my dipping my toes into his movies with this series, The Medallion, Forbidden Kingdom, and the Shanghai series I bought a boxed set of 8 of his older top classics and thoroughly enjoyed most of them. I can't remember which bits were from which movie, though, as I binged all of those movies over like 2 days so they all kinda mush together in my head lol.

    Please watch all James Bond movies. However, you should skip 'Casino Royale' (1967) and 'Never Say Never Again' as they are not part of the official James Bond movie series. You can watch them in any order, although the Daniel Craig movies should be watched in order because there is a small continuing story line.
    As a general comment, the safest choice to watch any movie series is the release order.

    Jackie Chan is amazing have seen a lot of his movies english and his native. there are many good movies to watch the Project A movies, Police Story, Rumble in the Bronx to name a couple he does his own stunts and they're usually shown in the titles including the mis-haps. he has broken every bone in his body he even has a plate in his head after putting a hole in it jumping to a tree.

    2:50 I've been studying Mandarin for about 7 months now - the film's subtitles are kinda wrong here, he says "when you go to America, you will make many many friends". But I guess they distilled the subs down to "it'll be okay".

    In the scene where carter talks to sang about the ransom money, he says “Do you want any fives with that?” It’s funny because it sounds like fries, but also makes sense because they mentioned 50s, 20s, and 10s. Five dollar bills were next

    Jackie Chan started out int he late 1960's. He didn't really hit it big outside China until the 1990's. For much of his career, he used the same actors in various side roles. Some good ones are "Rumble in the Bronx," "Drunken Master," "Armor of God," and "Supercop." He usually gets hurt, sometimes seriously. He also did a comedy western called "Shanghai Noon."
    As for James Bond, start with "Dr. No" to get the full experience, or "Casino Royale" to get the Daniel Craig movies that sort of share a common story line. The older ones are all stand alone movies apart form the odd recurring character.

    Might I recommend the film Supercop (otherwise known as Police Story 3)? It stars Jackie Chan and Michelle Yeoh (auntie from Shang Chi, etc) and is great fun. Don't worry about it being part 3, you don't have to see part 1 or 2 to understand the film. That said, PLEASE react to Everything Everywhere All At Once. It is honestly in my top favorite films ever, and I have high hopes come Oscar time. ETA!!! Michelle Yeoh does her own stunts in Supercop, and kept up with Jackie every step of the way. She's a badass.

    Both Addams Family movies are on Netflix. They're both perfect for this time of year, and they're more funny than scary. Addams Family Values is a popular movie to watch during Thanksgiving in North America because Thanksgiving is celebrated in part of the film.

      Love those Addams Family films. Rare case of remaking an old property and doing it WELL and becoming iconic in their own right. As much loved as the 60's sitcom still is, those two 90s movies may actually be more popular and for many people the definitive version of those characters, particularly Christina Ricci as Wednesday.
