Since I'm pretty sure you're solid and can handle "The Metal", I'll go ahead and recommend "Tenacious D In The Pick Of Destiny". It's utterly ridiculous and a Rockin' good time. 0:29 Well, I think that settles it then. The Lady loves "The D" and the Lady should receive "The D" in all its Power and Glory!!!🤔 🤘 😛🤘
'Nachos Libre' (2006) is very amusing and touching. J.B. plays a Mexican Catholic friar and secret lucha libre fan who moonlights as a luchador (masked wrestler) to earn money for the orphanage where he works.
For early Jack Black I would recommend The Cable Guy. That was the first movie I remember seeing him in, and he stood out to me. Which is pretty hard to do when it’s a Jim Carrey movie.
A passionate teacher can change anyone's life, not just a band teacher. I have spent 45 years in a career that I got into because of a High School teacher imparting his passion for the class.
They had a School of rock reunion with the cast members about 10 years ago. Because of this reunion, 2 of the kids who hadn't seen each other in years, started dating and are now engaged. Throughout the movie when you see the kids laughing at Jack Black, that's their genuine laugh. The behind the scenes said he used to make the kids laugh hysterically and they would use those shots in the movies. The drummer, unfortunately was killed riding his bike in Chicago by a hit and run driver around 3 years ago..
There is a senior leader at my work that said Jack Black in this movie is a leader she tries to emulate. He identifies all the kids strengths, understands their needs and makes them feel valued, gets them to believe in it, and executes something amazing.
As someone said before, the true hero of school of rock is the promoter who got a packed club of people for a battle of the bands on a Thursday morning
Jen, to hell with the haters. I'm here to see you sing along to the soundtracks in these movies. --------- Your energy and joy is the best. Never stop being Jen and giving us joy.
One subtle part that i love about this movie is the song they play was written by Zack about meeting Dewey and what it meant for him. But also, he's the one saying "I may not be the perfect son, but you'll be rocking when I'm done". And as he starts his solo, that's when his father, who's been criticizing him all movie, really gets into it.
This movie never gets old and it's a nice go-to movie when you want to watch something that makes you feel good. One of the things I've always liked about it is that Dewey never second-guesses any of the kids and lets them express themselves in the way they want. When Fancy Pants wants to be the stylist, boom. Done. When Turkey Sub wants to sing and she demonstrates she knows how, boom. Done. And on top of that, he's always building them up with they have self-doubt for whatever reason. Really the only thing he pushes back on are those first few band names, and... rightly so, lmao. Otherwise, he pretty much rolls with everything and helps guide them without being overbearing. Then, when it's finally game time, he puts his money where his mouth is and plays Zach's song and wears his uniform like a champ.
“I’ve just been informed that all of your children are missing. So…” I love the way Joan Cusack delivers that line so casually like it wasn’t a big deal.
The line when she says "I used to be funny" seems like a homage to 'Say Anything...' where she says the same (almost) to John Cusack about her responsibility as a parent. And Mike White (I think) was also an uncredited writer on 'Grosse Point Blank' and 'High Fidelity'. Could be a subtle call back or I could just be clutching at straws!😂 Either way Jen, if you're reading, 3 excellent films which haven't had the reactions they deserve.😉
Andrew Lloyd Webber turned this movie into a Broadway musical, which I was fortunate enough to see. Before the curtain, there was a pre-recorded announcement played from Sir Andrew himself, saying something along the lines of "Everyone always asks if the children on stage are playing their own instruments. They most definitely ARE." Which was so great to hear, because you were assured the kids on stage were making music together in real time. SO talented, and such a fun theater experience.
I was in a regional theatre production of it this summer. Fantastic show, super fun. But per the licensing agreement, the kiddos must play live and be under 14. We had some very talented kiddos rocking out.
Jack Black hams it up mercilessly in a role that was absolutely made for him. Right from the very start when he tries to jump into the non- existent mosh pit you know this is going to be great. Being a musician myself, and having been around guys like this even makes it more fun. Some great bits in this film especially when he can't spell his name on the blackboard, and he says to the kids about Led Zepplin 'don't tell me you guys never got the Led out'. Sarah Silverman is great as the the nagging girlfriend, and real satisfying ending. Just a great fun film.
Know this - You Are Not Childish when you sing along to music. Please ignore whomever says this. It's untrue and imho very rude. One of the many reasons I love your reactions is because not only do you react to the movie but to the music as well. Keep being you!! 🩷
God I love this movie. One of the main reasons I took up bass at like 9 years old. All these years later my friends and I will randomly quote this movie to each other
"I've just been informed that all of your children are missing!" God I love Joan Cusack, that vocal and physical delivery was so funny! Lovely film overall though - never gets old, so glad you enjoyed it Jen. :) One of the great things about your reactions is that you really appreciate music - especially the symphonic orchestral scores. Whether you knew it or not, that music teacher you speak about prepped you for that, if you knew it at the time or not! It's all good! :)
Fun fact: I find it funny that the Battle of the Bands director is the “What,” “Say What Again” guy from Pulp Fiction. The actor who plays the lead singer of Ned’s old band is actually professional musician and singer, Adam Pascal, who was in the OG/original cast of RENT, and is also in the RENT movie. He kinda bares a resemblance to Jon Bon Jovi, in his younger days with longer hair. They even have a similar vocal tone. He’s from the Bronx NY, not too far away from JBV’s New Jersey hometown.
Anyone that goofs on you IS a goof! The fact that your reactions always leans into the music or sound aspects of everything you watch is part of what makes you stand out from everyone else in this space.
The actor who played Ned (Mike White) wrote this with Jack Black (his neighbor) in mind. Mike went on two film two seasons of The Amazing Race with his dad as his partner, and then he also was a contestant on Survivor.
You do such a good job of balancing the clips from the movie with your reactions. Genuinely feels like im watching my favorite movies alongside you and experiencing your genuine reactions. Great channel
I actually remembered seeing Jack Black posting on Twitter (back when it was still called Twitter) about how it affected him hearing about Kevin's death
Jen, this movie was beyond perfect for you. I love how you reinforce all of Jack Blacks requests with principal Mullen. -------- Even though she was drunk and distracted. This was so hilarious.
Yes, that was them playing. I heard Joey Gados, who played Zack, play a set in a bar near me years ago - before his life took some unfortunate turns. Don't know what became of him recently.
I saw Joey play a set with his dad's band at a restaurant bar in Michigan. This was only a year or so after the movie came out, and my daughters took pictures with him and got his autograph.
Jen, I love your channel and everything you do. Singing, laughing, imitating instruments...your awesome. You’re infectious. ❤️U. Never listen to those that put you down. You are the reason why we watch. It’s not the movies. It’s all about you. Rock On!
Im so happy you reacted to this!! im 34 now but was 13 when this movie came out, and at the time I had already been dabbling in playing drums for a handful of years cause my older brother played and had a kit and would show me some basic stuff. But it was more just messing around. But when I saw this movie in theatres it totally changed my entire mindset and playing the drums instantly went from something id just mess around with to something I was passionate about and obsessed with to this day. I give this movie tons of credit!! Great reaction as always! Your passion for music in all the movies and shows you watch is one of my favorite parts of your reactions!
I havent seen this in the other comments (nearly 400 by now), there are real schools of rock all over the country that really do this, teaching young kids rock and roll and putting on concerts. I caught one by accident at a hard rock cafe in chicago. they had two groups, under 10, and 10 +, i think, and they were so good. it was a nice surprise extra for my dinner that night.
"Put on Odelay!" I was right there with you on that one, and wasn't much older than the kids in the movie when that album came out. Coincidently, 1996 was also the first time I encountered Tenacious D, who make a brief appearance in the movie "Bio-Dome".
Hey Jen, I was working at the Columbia records when Lauren Hill first album came out. ------- I heard it 3 months before release when they were still mixing it. ------- i couldn't play it for them, so I tried to tell folks what I was hearing, especially since she sounded so different from the Fugees. ------ Those were simple times when an album could change the world. The same happened with "Thriller" came out.
As someone who's also passionate about music (especially rock), this is one of the most heartwarming comfort movies for me. Jack Black didn't even have to act much because you know he's just genuinely that passionate about the music too. The way his character boosts their confidence and helps them hone in on their strengths gets me emotional by the time they play the battle of the bands!
To my knowledge, Jack Black's breakout acting role was a memorable supporting character in *High Fidelity* alongside John Cusack. It features several cameos you'll recognize. From a book by Nick Hornby (see also About a Boy). Another fun Black project is *Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle* with The Rock, Karen Gillian, and Kevin Hart.
Nooooo, I DEMAND a "Best of Jen Song-along moments video! Come on Jen all the recording is done just needs editing and it's guaranteed to blow up TH-cam 😂😂😂
The band who backed up the kids and Jack Black on the soundtrack recording was *The Mooney Suzuki* . The lead singer co-wrote the song "School of Rock" with Mike White. The character Zach Mooneyham was named after the band.
Love this film and Richard Linklater as director. He has such a chill vibe, yet has a clear vision for how his films are gonna go down:) Slacker and Dazed and confused have that magic touch as well:)
Jen, a music teacher from *Langley, British Columbia* is indirectly responsible for this movie. In 2001 teacher Hans Fenger organized a music project for elementary schools in the Langley School District. The resulting CD was what inspired Mike White to write the screenplay.
i 've been rubbing my hands waiting for this one this is so right for this channel i love how Jen was so into this , and Jack Black was born to play this part cranking his performance up to 11 🎸🤘 despite many struggles up ahead for me i'm just grateful to enjoy this reaction and i am a singer and drummer too ! rock on 🤘 Thanks for rocking my night Jen !!
I love your knowledge of the great classic rock music. All the kids in this movie actually do play the instruments and there really is a School Of Rock around the country. They even have a TH-cam channel.
Hey Jen, interesting fact for you: The actress who played the blonde back-up singer and one of the actors who played one of the roadies actually became a couple IRL
I immediately clicked on this because I absolutely love this movie. So heartfelt, especially when he talking to Tomika about her weight. Like you said, a great soundtrack also. If you ever decided to stage dive, I would catch you. 😉
First film I remember seeing Jack Black was as basically an extra in the underground scenes in Demolition Man. Always makes me chuckle to see him just pop up for no reason in that film, and as a pilot for a couple seconds in Waterworld.
I don’t know which came first but there is a School of Rock. They have a TH-cam channel. I’m Subscribed. They’re awesome kids playing awesome songs. On a side note, don’t listen to comments with no appreciation for the arts. You have a talent for picking out hard to hear instruments and rhythms in movie and television scores. I love that about you. Rock on! 🤟🤨💕🎵
Jacks major film debut was in the movie HIGH FIDELITY with John and Joan Cusack (they're friends) Tim Robbins, (Shawshank) and Lisa Bonet (Lenny Kravitz wife). He also made appearances in other films and tv shows before this role.
Yeah, he had a small role in Mars Attack years earlier and I'm sure plenty of other stuff around that time. Outside of film he was in an episode of The X-Files. I think his actual on screen debut might have been a commercial for Pitfall on Atari he did when he was a kid, which you can find here on youtube.
I've been waiting for Jen to do more movies with a music focus. No other reactor I've seen can pick out so many of even the tiniest details when it comes to music. e: I speak from experience, and if there is a tenth circle of hell, it's substitute teaching.
Yeah, I've been badgering reactors to do music themed movies for years. They avoid them like the plague. Basically it's School of Rock and The Blues Brothers. That's all they'll do. (I guess you can count Scott Pilgrim too).
I'm.right there with you! We can't go back, but we can hold tight to those musical memories. I xould always tell how musical you are when you point out sections of the soundtrack to whatever filmed yoyr're watching. I love it! Nicr to kniw I'm not alone with my appreciation. _Love your reactions!_
I had a professor in college that had us bring in a song, play it for the class, then the class would discuss the song afterwards. I brought in Rage Against the Machine's "Know Your Enemy".
Came hear to comment after listening to you say that some folks complain about you singing. They can go to hell! Dont know why people even bother watching someone do something that they dont enjoy. Losers. I appreciate what you do and thank you. Stick it to the man Jen! 🤘
School of Rock is an absolute gem. I could watch this movie over and over again and never get tired of it, Jack Black delivers one of his best performances.
Loved it. Every time I see it. Good laughs, Jen. A blast to watch along on this one. 🎧 🎸 🎹 😊 I remember my own Music Teacher in school. He had the same passion. So really kool.
thankfully, i grew up listening my grandparents music… who were teenagers during the 50’s. my grade school teacher had us play the song “Tequila” but renamed it “Orange Juice”. just to make a lame joke when we played the song for our parents. i taught myself how to play music in my 20’s 😂
This movie was awesome. I was in a band in HS when this came out. I had all kinds of musical influences at the time so this was soooo fun to watch the first time.
Holy lack of intro Batman! Love when you jump right in Jen! School of Rock is pretty beloved. Great tunes, talented kids, and good humor. I really enjoy Joan Cusack as the principal. She's so uptight and repressed it's really fun to see her cut loose at the end.
Alright, gonna settle in for a bit of mayhem from Jack Black. Cheers and Happy Monday to Jen & Her Serious Girl Spectacles, and to all Y'all out there around the World. 👍🥃☮❤ 0:11 Speaking of Richard Linklater, you simply must watch "Dazed and Confused" (1994). You'll love it, and I suspect it'll be a solid draw. 6:31 Wait...Jen had a band? Is there footage of this somewhere because I am immediately intrigued. 8:03 And Jen knows "Sunshine Of Your Love" by Cream? She's killin' me....😻
Please keep singing! Your musical comments and additions are unique and appreciated! Surprised you haven't seen this, it's the most Jen movie I can think of. Another Jack Black movie that would work for the holidays is The Holiday. A very different role from this, but another good one.
Hey Jen, raise your goblet high in a toast to the Gods of Rock. -------- Cause we ride tonight, to the guitar bite. And to the GODS OF ROCK. WE SALUTE YOU.
Marvellous reaction 👏 I honestly cannot fathom that anyone would leave a negative comment on any of your reactions! Whatever film you are checking out, its the most calm and relaxing hour or so of my day! Loved you reactions to the LOTRs trilogy
What other Jack Black movies should we check out?

"Shallow Hal" is an underrated one
'Nachos Libre' (2006) is very amusing and touching. J.B. plays a Mexican Catholic friar and secret lucha libre fan who moonlights as a luchador (masked wrestler) to earn money for the orphanage where he works.
For early Jack Black I would recommend The Cable Guy. That was the first movie I remember seeing him in, and he stood out to me. Which is pretty hard to do when it’s a Jim Carrey movie.
There's a JACK BLACK asks permission from Led Zeppelin to use Immigrant Song.. really funny ❤
If there was ever a movie made for this channel, it's School of Rock. So happy you are reacting to it :)
A passionate teacher can change anyone's life, not just a band teacher. I have spent 45 years in a career that I got into because of a High School teacher imparting his passion for the class.
Yes those kids actually played and sang for this movie. There is a video of them coming back together years after this movie also!
The actors playing Marta and Frankie (Caitlin Hale & Angelo Massagil).
that reunion was amazing, i hope she has seen it
Think it was Philly but still sad
As a "rocker/metalhead", I gotta say.. This movie is a love letter to rock.
Tenacious D is a love letter to rock, as well.
I would recommend High Fidelity. While Jack Black is not the leading role, he really showed his talent and personality in his acting.
I'm actually surprised Jen hasn't already seen this. This is right up her alley. Love you, Jen.
Joan Cusack is such an underrated actress in my humble opinion!!!!
Rest in Peace, Kevin Clark, AKA Freddy Jones, who died in a road accident in 2021, aged just 32, when a car hit his bicycle.
Aw man I didn't know that, that's so sad
So he would’ve been 14 in the movie but playing a 10/11 year old.
its also his birthday today. rest in peace kevin ❤
I only found out about it in the comment section of their reunion show.

So…” I love the way Joan Cusack delivers that line so casually like it wasn’t a big deal.
she deserved an Oscar nom for this role lol
Yeh hes great in this
Joan Cusack has been kickin’ butt in movies since “16 Candles” ❤️
The line when she says "I used to be funny" seems like a homage to 'Say Anything...' where she says the same (almost) to John Cusack about her responsibility as a parent. Either way Jen, if you're reading, 3 excellent films which haven't had the reactions they deserve.😉
She definitely reached the 'ah, fuck it' stage, where it couldn't get any worse so why worry lol.

My favorite Jack Black movie, such a classic. No one else could have played this as well. It helps he's really passionate about music in real life.
And ruining his career over the Trump comments
Kyle Gass said it, not J.B. While not being a supporter of Trump, Jack thought the comment went too far.
Same, my favorite Jack Black movie. ❤
Jack Black hams it up mercilessly in a role that was absolutely made for him. Right from the very start when he tries to jump into the non- existent mosh pit you know this is going to be great. All the kids in this movie actually do play the instruments and there really is a School Of Rock around the country. They even have a TH-cam channel.
Hey Jen, interesting fact for you:
The actress who played the blonde back-up singer and one of the actors who played one of the roadies actually became a couple IRL
JB was born to play this role. Such an awesome movie. Great reaction, so happy you loved it
Jen + School of Rock = an epic reaction 😄
I immediately clicked on this because I absolutely love this movie. So heartfelt, especially when he talking to Tomika about her weight. Like you said, a great soundtrack also. If you ever decided to stage dive, I would catch you. 😉
Funny thing is the kid playing Summer has at least 2 albums out. She is a good singer
Don't listen to the negative comments. You're the Queen in your channel, anybody with negative opinions can **** off
"Freddy, what do you like to do?"
"I don't know. Burn stuff?" 😅
"Orange County" with J. Black and Colin Hanks was the first thing I remember JB being in. I don't remember it well but he was hilarious in it.
I PLAYED THE CLARINET. STARTED IN 5TH GRADE . WE FORMED A JAZZ BAND. HELLO FROM PA USA 🇺🇸 ❤❤❤❤
School of Rock is the perfect movie for a Jen reaction! You rocked it Jen! 🤘
"I have a hangover."
"Does that mean you're drunk?"
"No, it means I was drunk yesterday." 🤣
Anything with Jack Black is awesome!
"Read between the lines Leo. Read between the LINES!" 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
Rock on! 🤟🤨💕🎵
Such a feel good movie. What a fantastic cast of kids.
Jacks major film debut was in the movie HIGH FIDELITY with John and Joan Cusack (they're friends) Tim Robbins, (Shawshank) and Lisa Bonet (Lenny Kravitz wife). He also made appearances in other films and tv shows before this role.
What you mean to say is- It was his breakthrough role...the one that got him noticed. (He was in major films before that.)
Lisa Bonet was one of the Huxtables on the Cosby Show.
I bet filming this was absolutely amazing. Jack Black was so good interacting with those kids.
Thanks for all the hard work on these videos!
Ballsy choice
Music is math. So true! Times and frequencies. All numbers.
Ms Jen with interest, appreciation and taste in music/score just so good. keep it going, the only reason I like this channel !
I really enjoyed this! Thanks for making one of my all time favorite movies even more fun. 🎉🎬🍿🍫🎼
At 8:54 😄A bass guitar isn't the same thing as a cello at all. A bass guitar is tuned E A D G and a cello is practically the reverse: C G D A. 🎻
Alright, gonna settle in for a bit of mayhem from Jack Black. Cheers and Happy Monday to Jen & Her Serious Girl Spectacles, and to all Y'all out there around the World. 👍🥃☮❤
0:11 Speaking of Richard Linklater, you simply must watch "Dazed and Confused" (1994).
Your conversation about music teachers and your nostalgia for your music class tell me you would love the movie "Mr. Holland's Opus".
"and thats a magic numberrrr"
Been quoting that for 2 decades lol
Marvellous reaction 👏 I honestly cannot fathom that anyone would leave a negative comment on any of your reactions! Whatever film you are checking out, its the most calm and relaxing hour or so of my day! Loved you reactions to the LOTRs trilogy
This is a gem of a movie. Loved it.
When you see the anniversary jam they all did that is on youtube...it will warm your heart.
