When i saw this in the theater, everyone was shocked when tom cruise's name popped up in the credits. For me, that was a highlight of the film. It was the first, and arguably, the only movie he played an unhinged, foul-mouthed character. So unexpected and refreshing.

@@derikk3215 I've had the experience, plenty of times, where I watched a movie and had a recurring, nagging thought someone reminded me of someone else, either because of their bone structure or their voice or their mannerisms. This was one of those cases where I brushed it off, like my brain had cried wolf too often, where I was like, "Man, this new guy really sounds like Tom Cruise!" but didn't want to commit to it mentally 🤣

If you were alive and watching his movies in the '80s, he's considered an iconic actor in your brain and you're more likely to recognize him -- but, if not, he's just another actor so your brain hasn't dedicated the same amount of space to him.

As the vid went on and Mary didn’t seem like she was recognising Tom Cruise, my anticipation kept growing for the end credits! Such an brilliant “Wait whuuuut? I need to watch the whole movie again!” moment 😂
Cruise so owned that role, and it was essentially his own creation. Stiller approached Cruise to get his opinion on the script, and Cruise said that it needed something extra - a studio executive or something that was putting pressure on the production. Stiller agreed and the role of Les Grossman was created especially for Cruise. All the physical appearance, mannerisms and dancing were 100% Cruise, and he even insisted that he not be mentioned in any of the pre-release publicity or opening credits, to preserve the surprise. I feel like this movie was a massive boost to his career (especially after all the Katie Holmes stuff etc). And Robert Downey Jr., man… damn. He’d spent so long out in the wilderness and he was just making his comeback with Iron Man, and he took this on. Hell of a risk, but it worked!

Never seen so many expressions cross your face during a reaction before. This is gold! Thanks for choosing this film... its given my Thursday a lift I didn't realise I needed! Radio 1's Ali Plumb did an interview with Tom Cruise, Cruise said to Ben Stiller, he would only do the role if he could have fat hands and dance! 😂

The story goes that Ben Stiller had a small part in the Steven Spielberg film Empire of the Sun, which starred Christian Bale, as well as a bunch of other stars, and began with said stars going to boot camp. He says that the false camaraderie and stolen valor that he saw on that set is what inspired him to make this movie.

Tom Cruise actually demanded to have big hands and a solo dance scene as conditions for him appearing in the movie and that's the most Tropic Thunder part of how Tropic Thunder was made

Tom Cruise based Les Grossman on a real producer. Everyone that knows them, has said "Yeah... that's him."

I'm so glad there's at least 1 other who didn't know it was Tom Cruise until the credits. I saw this in theaters and had no idea til then either. Everyone else who reacts seems to spot him right away. It ma-ma-ma-makes me feeel bad.

Tom Cruise had two conditions for accepting the role, he wanted fat hands and wanted to dance to Flo Rida.

Mary is in a league of her own! She by far had the greatest line.... "Their were alot of units sucked in the making of this film" I literally spit out my drink when she said that and was laughing so hard 😂 🤣 Glad you reacted to this and laughed, also didn't cut the fulness of it either

2:52 That's very much like an actual movie called "Name of the Rose" with Sean Connery but...uhm...without the man love 🤣It's actually a really good movie I'd recommend, as is "The Man Who Would Be King" with Sean and Michael Caine.

I loved this movie. True all-star cast. And I loved how RDJ did almost the whole commentary as Kirk Lazarus and once he dropped the character, he never picked it up again.
Also...and I'll be the hundred-thousandth person to ask this....WHERE IS OUR LES GROSSMAN MOVIE??!!

This movie is actually kind of tough for someone who didn't grow up watching movies. Alot of meta humor based of hollywood-isms and movie-isms. The start of the movie with the fake previews being a prime example. Hopefully you still found a lot of those reference heavy moments humorous, even if you didn't quite catch the context.

Yeah, unfortunately a lot of people who do movie reactions haven’t seen a lot of movies, so they miss quite a bit of the humor. I think most of them still enjoy it, but big movieheads will recognize how brilliant this script is.

Hi this was my very first video I’ve seen on your TH-cam Channel so hi it’s nice to meet you.
Also, when I first saw this movie I died laughing so hard. 😂😂😂 I was wheezing. I was like “I can’t breathe I can’t breathe!!!” I couldn’t breathe cause I was laughing so hard. 😂😂😂 I was especially laughing so hard at the whipping part @17:22-17:28 and when he threw the kid off the bridge @26:46-26:50. 😂😂😂
