If you are into hilarious martial arts, I highly recommend Kung Fu Hustle. I also highly recommend IP Man - even though it is not funny, it is a martial arts movie with very good storytelling.
One of Jackie Chan's first roles is as an extra in a Bruce Lee film and Bruce accidentally hits Jackie for real with nunchucks or a bo or something. They finished the scene and Bruce rushed to Jackie apologizing but Jackie took it as a badge of honor. That day Bruce Lee validated Jackie Chan. Legends!
It was a hard wood staff yeah. Jackie wasn't hurt (because he was knocked out on his feet, so there was no pain). But he played pretend he was hurt because Bruce was holding him and obviously Bruce was a hero to a lot of Chinese people.
If you’re impressed here, Jackie Chans stunts in his Hong Kong movies are FAR superior compared to his American ones. Jackie use to talked about how much he hated the production for US movies cause they’re so rushed and edited poorly. Also him and Chris Tucker were not the best of friends in real life either during the first movie. Chris Tucker would always show up late, crack jokes and improv during scenes. Jackie wasn't use to that or Tuckers hyperactive-ness. Plus Chan's english wasnt as good back then.
In all fairness, no American insurance company would cover an Asian style Jackie Chan movie, so his martial arts scenes are toned down considerably in American movies.
Fun fact: While filming the bar fight scene Jackie was completely unaware of the history behind the N-word. After recording the scene he asked Chris Tucker why everyone would be so mad because the scene wasn't making sense to him and after Chris Tucker explained he was ashamed and vowed to never say it again and that he wouldn't do anymore Rush Hour movies if he had to use that word again.
Jackie Chan actually barely knew English during this movie. He said he literally only knew his lines and that’s it and he still managed to give a great performance
Chan was in a movie in Chicago called The Big Brawl in 1980 and he also did another movie called The Protector which was filmed in NY and Japan 1985 with the late Danny Aeillo and his English was pretty good
If these stunts and martial arts impressed you, you should see Jackie's Hong Kong movies. He literally almost died in one of his films _(Armor of God)._ And in another he literally jumped down a three story pole without a net _(Police Story)._
@Randy White well if that were true than we would have actual comedy again. We wouldn't have people say "well that didnt age well" over a joke that has to do with rice and asian people. We wouldn't have people constantly try to cancel south park because its "offensive". Trust me dude there are more people who get offended than people who complain about people being offended.
Jackie Chan was already a martial arts/movie legend, but this trilogy really put him in Hollywood. And Chris Tucker is at his best in this movie trilogy.
Fun Fact: The cab driver who pulls a gun on Lee and Carter is Gene LeBell, famous martial artist, stunt man and wrestler, who also worked with Bruce Lee, as did Jackie.
Nobody does Jackie’s stunts. That’s the beauty of his acting. He comes up with and choreographs almost all of his moves and has broken pretty much every bone in his body including his pelvis which is why he runs a little funny. He’s a master of his craft.
Compare the choreography in this to the Jedi fights in Star Wars. It's embarrassing. And some people think those were good. Any bargain basement Asian movie has better fights than Star Wars. Lucas wasted a great concept
Jackie’s films are known for their outtakes during the credits. Although the ones on the RH trilogy are funny, his Hong Kong films are more of him getting hurt doing the stunts. 🤕
Mary, the Rush Hour trilogy is where most Westerners saw Jackie for the first time. But true fans know his greater films and stunts, which he made starting in the mid-1970s.

Especially his earlier work from Hong Kong. You might want to check out his other movies, Rumble In The Bronx and Mr. Nice Guy being two really good examples.

Jet Li and Bruce Lee are both phenomenal, but Jackie Chan just has a charisma that the others lack, at least to his extent. It's the humor, I think.
