None of my cables are loose like that at all on my dd2, especially the power cable like yours !! Struggle to get it out!! Add a small bit of lithium grease on the shaft, had a bit which came with my v3s and works a treat putting time on off
You should not use the grease from the Brake Performance Kit - this is Lithium Grease and is not suitable for the rubber sleeve. Fanatec recommend silicone grease.
As a console player i am happy to see the first DD wheel for ps4! I hope that there will be more competition in that nish and hopefully the price will decrease. Are all buttons functional on PS4? Is there information if this wheel will be compitable with ps5?
Fanatec is the Apple of simracing - they lock you up in their ecosystem and your f***ed for life. But seriously it's reassuring and convenient that my soon to be CSL Elite F1 rim will happily run on the Podium base in the future. Concerning longevity I'm currently still rocking the Fanatec GT3RS V2 and it's the seventh year of abuse and it's still going and all the buttons work. I'm actually amazed by that. @@slatanek yeah! My new favorite car is the 488 GT3, which were near impossible to drive with the Porsche wheel! Currently waiting for the podium quick release so I can do some vintage/rally stuff with a round rim.
This is the kind of product that seems painfully expensive, but if you know you're gonna be using it regularly during the week for over the next 5 to 10 years it's actually really not such a bad proposition at all It's one of those outlays that hurt at the time, but you're always glad you did while using it some months / years later.........Just keep it's price on the DL from the missus ;)
well if you say its pretty much a small mige with more natural damping, then it can't be so bad. I'll wait to see what Barry says before deciding. SC2 seems to require much more extra rig work for me unfortunately, whereas the fanatec will bolt right on.
Lol the rattling noise was my keyboard moving , i Need to tighten down the bolts on my rig a bit more :) I found with the fanatec DD the FEI setting is best put to around 90 and I just use it to remove some of the higher frequency FFB effects you get in some games.
"If I grease up my shaft, I can pull it off much easier". "That's great Mr Muscle, but are you going to pay for those tea bags now?" Said the Lidl shopgirl, nervously.
Very happy with my DD1 - even happier for the fact that I originally payed 971€ and then got a 350€ voucher because of the delay, bought a rim I would've bought anyway. So could say I payed 621€ for the base, so almost HALF PRICE of what it is now! :D
Thank you for the video. I am thinking about jump to DD in the future and it has been useful. Hope one day can do that. And of course I will use your link. Best regards.
GamerMuscleVideos i own the same DD1 set and use it on PC, and its not bad by any means apart from the usual Fanatec terrible quality control, disgraceful security, and virtually non-existent customer support, but i do find it rather hard to take these sort of videos as "unbiased reviews" from the likes of yourself and particularly Sim racing girl, due in large to the fact getting such an expensive item essentially free is an instant bias, youre going to be a lot more critical of an item you had to actually pay for and especially if it is £1600. I do enjoy your videos though, some are quite funny to watch :)
redSKORPION50 I view it this way: if a reviewer says: "disclaimer: I got item X for free" it basically translates in my head to: " look out I'm gonna be slightly biased. I'm not gonna lie when there's a serious issue but I might unintentionally let something slide". That's human nature 101. Unless you're Barry Rowlands - then you're gonna take the sucker apart no matter who send you what. God bless the man!
slatan slatanek couldnt agree more really, Baz is a top fella, and i do trust his reviews and his knowledge. The man knows sim racing. Some youtuber sim racers i watch their videos and just shake my head at times... This isnt one of them, but when i watch one that says "im 44 seconds down but im 15th in the world..." Ummmm really?? I was 17 seconds down on the same stage and 362nd in the world... You gotta wonder...
I think it's a shame the CSL Elite won't work with the Clubsport V2 pedals plugged into the wheel...i've run out of USB ports and have to do a dance to plug stuff in!
@@GamerMuscleVideos +1.. I have one from the first batch and still dont feel its setup correctly after countless hrs of fetteling. (nearly brought a mad cat.) Pls make it more than just going thru the menu or recomended settings from fanatec as i feel they are lacking.. Cheers..
If you buy this and run it under 50% you're pretty much throwing your money away. If you run it at 40% (8nm) you would just be better off buying a Fanatec Clubsport v2.5 for a 3rd of the price, maybe even cheaper on Ebay because it can do 8nm max. And if you run it at 30% (6nm) then you could have gotten a Fanatec CSL elite for like $300 and just run it on max settings (6nm). The point is DD wheels are more for simulation and would probably benefit someone who's training to be honest. If you like to race for hours on end without having your arms feel like jelly or like they're about to fall off in 15 minutes and actually enjoy the game just get the Fanatec Clubsport v2.5. It's all the power you'll need for gaming and it has great FFB and is also smooth and quiet.

The reason the wheel was so hard to pull on and off was because you had the gold ring as tight as it goes if you loosen the gold wheel its much easier to take off.

After 4 years of Accuforce I thought to give one of the new DD's a go anytime soon, so I tested the DD1 and Simucube 2 both twice at the Expo. Long story short: the Accuforce might have another four years until SimXperience releases a new wheelbase.
@@2Old4Forza Yes, the FFB was IMO not even close to the Accuforce with my Sim Commander settings. Not just the missing engine- and road-vibrations from the telemetry made the others too lifeless. The dampening feels more natural with the AF and much better car & tire connection in four different Sims. It's likely Sim Commander which makes the big difference here and they and I had four years time to tweak the settings, but the most important are not available with any other wheel anyway. I'm just trying my AF without Simvibe and motion if my impression was just coming from the other devices, but no, my FFB is better at least for me and by a landslide. I could order the S2 and Fanatec DD tomorrow if i want, but that's not going to happen.
m currently stuck between buying csl elite f1 or the dd1 for ps4..i mainly play f1 but will be progressing to other racing games..im thinking of homding out for ps5 before buying dd1..any opinions thanks
Choose the CSL elite + for the start. Can explain you why Easyer handling because less FFB, Lower price and you can possibly sell it faster because a DD wheel is highprised. And until no ps5 combatibility is confirmed its possibly a good choise for the start. Pro for the DD1? Its a DD wheel that meams you have more FFBs and and and, you have a base combatible for all racing games in the past and future, a long live setup for the next 5-10+ years in the DD class.
So does this wheel offer full analog gas and brake using just your hands? I'm disabled and my legs are deader than dead. So many wheels out there but none offer hand controls for disabled folk. Any chance of doing a demonstration video with this wheel using the paddles as gas and brake? Thanks for reading this. Cheers...
Question; I'm an Xbox user primarily. And i think it is wonderful that there a wheel for the Playstation. But i would like to know what an additional "rim" is. Because i am interested in purchasing this product even if i have to purchase an additional rim. But i have no idea what that is.
If you go on the website and chose wheels from the options you can filter by compatablity and then choose Xbox one all those will then make it work with xboxone fanatec.com/?FAP+Banner&GAMERMUSCLE&General+Links&a_aid=GAMERMUSCLE Most of the Xbox wheels also have the Xbox logo on them as well 👍
Back off that locking ring all the way when taking the wheel off. I have no issues taking my wheel on and off. Expensive unit but this is a game changer. In Canada this will end up costing 2,720 dollars. After the US dollar conversion, shipping costs and duty fees.
If you would loosen up the brass lock ring you would egt it on easier like others because you having it already tight is expanding the ring undo it the ring shrinks so you can slide it on yes its still a little heavy but not as bad as yours seemed but better to be tight then loose but dude I loved this video you were very very in depth loved it I cant wait to get one in like 6 months from now hahahaha
I went for the DD2 because of the 5 year warranty and the customer support for fanatec in Australia. If you know you are going to use the thing for many years to come the premium price is worth every cent
I think ps5 might be really interesting but yah it's a shame we have yet to see a SIM on console that's in the same quality level as RF2 iRacing and AC ( AC on console is nowhere near as good as pc AC) #pcmasterrace 🙃
The color and the V2 wheel is closed in the bottom. The V2 wheel works with xbox one and comes with xbox buttons that you can take of. Worth kbowing tho is that alot of the functions is bot supported on the xbox. The led shiftlight and the thumb wheels for example.
Damn thing is so expensive that in every video I see they have it for free or they don't. Really love to get one but damn. Gonna go with clubsport wheel and pedals.
Its too expensive. I would also need the fanatec gearbox. By the time you throw in clubsport pedals, your getting close to €3000 here in the uk on amazon!
@@kevinharkness2108 I ended up buying the clubsport family. Around €1100. Csw2.5 with Porsche 918 wheel and cs v3 pedals. €90 for drivehub and now it works great with PC and PS4.

Might be a stupid question but how does the FFB compare when playing say Project cars 2 on both PC and Console??? What I mean is, is there a noticeable difference between systems???
Multi-platform games typically operate at an overall lower latency when using a decent PC compared to console versions. This means that FFB can feel significantly sharper/tighter on PC.
With the new upcoming wheel adapter to enable other wheel rims and with the upcoming software, can you confirm something no review seems to cover. Can PS4 & Xbox be played with PC USB based pedals? Or does compatibility for these require "Fanatec Pedals" to be installed. If so, this is a major drawback of the PS4 Wheelbase for PC sim racers that use the popular and high-end pedals. If needing to change pedals and then the need to still purchase Fanatec pedals defeats the purpose of multiformat compatibility between PS4 and PC titles.
You can always use 3rd party Pedals when connected to the pc by USB of course. No problem at all, you just only can connect Fanatec Pedals to the Fanatec base, of course. However, therefore it's not possible to use 3rd party Pedals on console, that's a Fanatec exclusive right in the DD world.
I watch this video with my G25 on my desk, which cost me 150 bucks, playing Gt sport through Cronusmax plus :) One question though, I see on video some input lag while playing Gt sport. Is it correct?
Okay need some advice or opinions and any and all will be greatly appreciated..I have a CSL DD GT PRO and have been thinking about upgrading to the F1 podium as I race on both PC and PS so that's my only option within Fanatec, so I guess would it be a huge improvement over my CSL GT Pro or really not that of a difference? Asking before I hit that buy now and my bank account goes wth you doing
Umm you're using the quick release wrong. You have to unscrew the gold thing on the base completely and make sure you're fully pulling back the blue release on the rim. Then you can screw it back into contact with the rubber ring. Also, how did you get the oled screen and shifter lights working with Assetto Corsa? Mine only works "fully" with F1 2019 and partially with iRacing.
I didn't really see GM use the QR incorrectly in this video. You only need to loosen the gold locking nut to the point where the rubber sleeve is no longer being compressed. It's not necessary to unscrew the locking ring all the way back each time - if you go too far back it can create some 'stiction' against the black clamp ring.
@@DomB_Fanatec then let me rephrase: the way he is operating it is not the most effective way of operating the quick release, or so I have found with my product
@@DomB_Fanatec also, Dom, while you're here, I do have a question. When will the Fanalab software be released to the general public? I am having a hard time finding any information online regarding this and while my experience with the podium base has been great, it hasn't quite been "complete" since some of the features, such as the shift LEDs and screen, don't work in all games
Vibration motor seems very weak compared to accuforce.. Cant get anywhere near the feel of road texture, kerbs and bumps on DD1 compared to the accuforce
Then it would be nice to be able to oversaturate it on the DD1 to be able to adjust it to a preference i like. I know some people don't like any vibration of kerbs or bumps and just want the turning forces, I like to feel the bumps it helps with immersion.
@@derekbird8958 they feel like the game intends them to feel. If you want to oversaturate it on a Fanatec wheel you can increase the force from 100 to 120 which bumps up the bumps and kerbs, but other than that if the game has no option to increase those effects you can't do it on a proper DD like the Fanatec one.
recently got my DD1 and read the instruction manual to see "IMPORTANT: Take care not to use high forces when attaching the steering wheel." and then me 5 min later: 13:31
Yah IV used it with GTsport ,. PS4 compatablity comes from the base not the rim so I think you can use all wheels on PS4 👍 so long as you have CSLE PS4. Or podium with PS4 support

If able, use dielectric grease. It's electrically inert. And doesn't solidify into paste.
Cool, I will try some
As a console player i am happy to see the first DD wheel for ps4! I hope that there will be more competition in that nish and hopefully the price will decrease. Are all buttons functional on PS4? Is there information if this wheel will be compitable with ps5?
All buttons work on PS4 so long as the game supports them. No info on ps5 support yet.
Do they all work in PC2?
The extra top two paddles on the APM don't work though. All the other knobs and switches work.
5:10 what’s with the latency between steering wheel inputs and the reaction on screen?
It's just animation lag
Fanatec is the Apple of simracing - they lock you up in their ecosystem and your f***ed for life. But seriously it's reassuring and convenient that my soon to be CSL Elite F1 rim will happily run on the Podium base in the future. Concerning longevity I'm currently still rocking the Fanatec GT3RS V2 and it's the seventh year of abuse and it's still going and all the buttons work. I'm actually amazed by that. Thanks for the review.
slatan slatanek that was my first wheel! Died 6 months ago, and i went for the clubsport V2.5 and v3 pedals, with the formula carbon rim, so incredibly happy with it!
eirikol1 I just got my CSL Elite with F1 rim a gew days ago - very pleased with it. The GT3RS was very slow by comparison. At last I can catch slides I always thought I should be able to catch but never was due to the friction of the old wheel.
@@slatanek yeah! My new favorite car is the 488 GT3, which were near impossible to drive with the Porsche wheel! Currently waiting for the podium quick release so I can do some vintage/rally stuff with a round rim.
eirikol1 good to hear. Good luck man!
One day I need to try one of those! Gorgeous wheel and base
This is the kind of product that seems painfully expensive,
but if you know you're gonna be using it regularly during the week for over the next 5 to 10 years it's actually really not such a bad proposition at all
It's one of those outlays that hurt at the time, but you're always glad you did while using it some months / years later.........Just keep it's price on the DL from the missus ;)
well if you say its pretty much a small mige with more natural damping, then it can't be so bad. I'll wait to see what Barry says before deciding. SC2 seems to require much more extra rig work for me unfortunately, whereas the fanatec will bolt right on.
Thankyou for you time and review mate
Thanks for the comment and being nice !
Fanatec says you can use the "FEI" setting on your wheel to reduce these noises 4:17
Lol the rattling noise was my keyboard moving , i Need to tighten down the bolts on my rig a bit more :) I found with the fanatec DD the FEI setting is best put to around 90 and I just use it to remove some of the higher frequency FFB effects you get in some games.
I was referring to the woohoohooooos and such 😉
"If I grease up my shaft, I can pull it off much easier".

@@slatanek Barry did it too with Fanatec DD, unfortunately.
So im looking to get the podium dd1. But do i need a rig for it or could i mount it on table top clamp v2 or anything else?
I think it's a shame the CSL Elite won't work with the Clubsport V2 pedals plugged into the wheel...i've run out of USB ports and have to do a dance to plug stuff in!
They should work , hit up Fanatec support , you might just have a faulty cable or something 😀
The way you say "braided sheath" sends shivers down my spine...
Good reviews James. Can we get some ffb settings guide for each sim. That would be interesting and informative 👍
Yep I have a few things I want to cover :) thanks for kind words as well !
@@GamerMuscleVideos +1.. I have one from the first batch and still dont feel its setup correctly after countless hrs of fetteling. (nearly brought a mad cat.) Pls make it more than just going thru the menu or recomended settings from fanatec as i feel they are lacking.. Cheers..
Happy new year I have the PlayStation five and I got the DF one but now with the Gran Turismo which wheels can I use on my dd?
Thank you for your time
Price seem to have gone up, now selling for EUR1,799.95 at their website
Do u not understand duty cycle? Its more then just power. Speed =realism. You are clueless
I was beginning to think you got lost on your kayak or something lol.
He's ALIVE!!!😀
had me worried there baldie😓
Skull all polished and ready to rock.

what doesn't add a ton to the immersion is the length of the unit. Would completely destroy the FOV immersion having it so far from the screen.
Ok just finished my video review of the podium DD1 ......might as well bin it now...LOL exact the same video except for a cuter actor in the visor... gonna have to review my own review...LOL good job GM i hope you get to keep that piece of kit....i bought it and i LOVE IT !! 😜👍😍😍😍
Sorry ! Still be good to have your review , multiple people saying the same thing by accident adds more credablity to claims good or bad :)
The reason the wheel was so hard to pull on and off was because you had the gold ring as tight as it goes if you loosen the gold wheel its much easier to take off.
No it's still hard to pull on and off even with silicone lubricant it can sometimes take be a bit stiff.
I'm thinking of getting this. I have a call elite. How much longer is it including the wheel in place? Does it feel you're too far away from the screen? cheers
hey men , greetings vienna part 2 ( meet you on the Sim EXpo :-)
Ha hello !
Very good vid,I'm looking at getting in to sim racing and I'm loving the lokk of this, quick question, how do you install the drivers if you dont have a PC? I know you dont strictly have to but me being me I'd want to!!
After 4 years of Accuforce I thought to give one of the new DD's a go anytime soon, so I tested the DD1 and Simucube 2 both twice at the Expo. Long story short: the Accuforce might have another four years until SimXperience releases a new wheelbase.
So you are saying accuforce > podium simucube?
2Old4Forza I don’t think so, but the difference between DD is not very big and if it still works why get something else?
Can explain you why
Easyer handling because less FFB, Lower price and you can possibly sell it faster because a DD wheel is highprised. And until no ps5 combatibility is confirmed its possibly a good choise for the start.
Pro for the DD1? Its a DD wheel that meams you have more FFBs and and and, you have a base combatible for all racing games in the past and future, a long live setup for the next 5-10+ years in the DD class.
You're a great reviewer! Keep it up!
Thanks !
That wink near the end kind of hypnotized me and made me click the fap link without realizing it.
You're playing with fire here.
Which cockpit are you using now? the previous one couldn't take the forces obviously.
Great vid, please keep it up!
Cheers...
Yah the podium F1 wheel rim has two analog inputs that you could map to gas and brake.
You have two shift buttons and 1 analog on each side basically.
Question; I'm an Xbox user primarily. And i think it is wonderful that there a wheel for the Playstation. But i would like to know what an additional "rim" is. Because i am interested in purchasing this product even if i have to purchase an additional rim. But i have no idea what that is.
If you go on the website and chose wheels from the options you can filter by compatablity and then choose Xbox one all those will then make it work with xboxone fanatec.com/?FAP+Banner&GAMERMUSCLE&General+Links&a_aid=GAMERMUSCLE
Most of the Xbox wheels also have the Xbox logo on them as well 👍
Back off that locking ring all the way when taking the wheel off. I have no issues taking my wheel on and off. Expensive unit but this is a game changer. In Canada this will end up costing 2,720 dollars. After the US dollar conversion, shipping costs and duty fees.
Nice camera work!
Already broken my DD2..... Have to send it in for repair. :(
Stripped a front face screw hole using my Asher Racing Rally Paddle Shifter.
That sucks did you over tighten them or was it some other issue ?
Mine died last week, power buttons and killswitch failed. Having to send it off to get repaired.
Great review! I'm thinking about getting a dd1, just wondering. Do they use lots of electricity?
What about the Difference between the Logitech G29 and this Wheel? Much difference?
Is the power cable compatible with the US plug outlet? I think we use Plug B here in the states
Still using my Clubsport v1 with no issues but considering a DD
I went for the DD2 because of the 5 year warranty and the customer support for fanatec in Australia. If you know you are going to use the thing for many years to come the premium price is worth every cent
Hi,I would like to know if I can mount this on a table considering the fact that the cockpit is only coming later
Yeah, GM I'm going to get rid of my DD1 wheel and get a madcatz. I'm arosed now...not really! Excited for PS4 people. I'm a PC guy forever.
I think ps5 might be really interesting but yah it's a shame we have yet to see a SIM on console that's in the same quality level as RF2 iRacing and AC ( AC on console is nowhere near as good as pc AC)
#pcmasterrace 🙃
What's the difference between this wheel and the ClubSport Steering Wheel Formula V2 USA wheel ?? Thanks
The color and the V2 wheel is closed in the bottom. The V2 wheel works with xbox one and comes with xbox buttons that you can take of.
Worth kbowing tho is that alot of the functions is bot supported on the xbox.
The led shiftlight and the thumb wheels for example.
Sweet wheel! Did you get to keep it? I saw it in your new vid...which led me to watch this.
Great review. Can you use a round wheel from fanatec and still works with ps4?
Damn thing is so expensive that in every video I see they have it for free or they don't. Really love to get one but damn. Gonna go with clubsport wheel and pedals.
Its too expensive. I would also need the fanatec gearbox. By the time you throw in clubsport pedals, your getting close to €3000 here in the uk on amazon!
@@kevinharkness2108 I ended up buying the clubsport family. Around €1100. Csw2.5 with Porsche 918 wheel and cs v3 pedals. €90 for drivehub and now it works great with PC and PS4.
I had a th8a shifter and I use it with PS4 and PC now
Do you connect it to both the ps4 and pc at the same time, when you update first time?
After seeing the dd2 review by sim racing garage I wonder how the flex was with this one. Kinda hoping there isnt any and its just Barry being Barry
Its not really "flex" its play if you push on edges of the wheel , I never really noticed it myself it takes quite a bit of force on mine to move.
@@GamerMuscleVideos Thanks, that is what Ive been reading from some other users too and what I hoped for since you mentioned the fidelity which would be affected with a lot of flex. Now I have to convince my wife I really need this 1600 euro wheel and some pedals 😂. Thank you for the awesome review
Did you try it with the PS4 and what’s it like?
Thanks
So the PS4 version has slightly less Torque. Is it enough to buy the pc version and then get a converter? I play on both PC and PS4
Where’s he been 🤷🏻♂️ GM at the Sim Expo getting more Fanatec wheel rims 😂
Lol the new Porsche rim looks nice , I'm happy with just formula rim and oval rim to be honest 🙃 I allways liked there BMW rim as well.
I noticed it as well, I hope that can be adjusted so it matches the movement of the wheel in game.
@@SuperPITSteelers FanaLab is coming soon. For leds in older games you need to use the CSW v2.5 compatibility mode.
Vibration motor seems very weak compared to accuforce.. Cant get anywhere near the feel of road texture, kerbs and bumps on DD1 compared to the accuforce
The motor actually is a lot stronger, not weaker. AF oversaturates those FFB effects when adjusted wrong.
It does not have a "vibration motor" it's a DD , there is a seperate vibration motor in some of the Fanatec wheel rims though.
Then it would be nice to be able to oversaturate it on the DD1 to be able to adjust it to a preference i like. I know some people don't like any vibration of kerbs or bumps and just want the turning forces, I like to feel the bumps it helps with immersion.
@@GamerMuscleVideos My mistake. The force feed back is strong but however it generates the bumps and kerbs they feel weak to me.
A really good, well made review video. 5 stars. I would have liked to see it working on a PS4 though, perhaps that's to come?
Hah! With VR I always have the right rim with my podium.
The "carbon cover" actually does serve a purpose as it's what everything is mounted to.
Nick Gregory It could have been Alumnium. He meant carbon may be a tad over kill.
Works with all games except project cars( the first one) anyone know how I can get the wheel to be recognised?
On the website it says Xbox One ready and I own an Xbox one. So, would I be able to use it full on Xbox one ?
put a little smearing of silicone lubricant on the shaft and the wheel will pop off and on with no issues
