I know you've said this, but just wanted to tell you that I LOVE the fact that when you review something you're not trying to sell it. You give us enough good HONEST info to make a decision without it sounding like everything you review is a "game changer", or the best ever!! That is what separates you from a lot of reviewers. Keep up the good work. I used your little "break" to go back and watch some old videos from before i found your channel...good stuff, keep em coming!!!
@Margot Carbone yeah, he has the affiliate link, bitbwhat I meant was he's not telling you this is the best, you gotta have it, like a salesman. If he sees a problem, he points it out. Even in this video, he comments that if you want the best, top of the line, and money doesn't matter, go with the simucube. The Fanatec website would NEVER say that.
This is a great in-depth review. All three parts gave me a really clear understanding of the product. Hats off for a job well done! I really appreciate content like this.
Will love the positioning of Spa and Monza. On occasions I couldn’t stop smiling at what looked like Reindeer antlers. Anyway, yet another brilliant video. Thanks you. Really makes a difference what you do.
Awesome as always Will. So far DD2 will be it for me. It could still change, but the fact that I am so invested in Fanatec and don't want to deal with selling everything to buy the simucube will play a mayor role for me.
Fanatec has a very good customer service. I had a problem with my shifter on my F1 Wheel (the smaller one of the new). They told me that I can send it to them to get repaired or that they send me a new shifter module to change it on my own. They are really very easy to change. I love the modular system. So they send me the shifter module, and I sent the module that didn't work back to them! This all was done within two or three days... so, very fast. And I was able to get back to racing very fast. Other guys I talked to had the same good experiences! btw, thank you for your work!
Great video. I cant wait to see how these progress over the next few months till I can get one this summer. Love how in depth you go and how u have been very unbiased and covered all aspect. Great video man.
DD1 vs Sport, DD2 vs Pro, Ultimate being in a class of its own. DD1 and 2, SC2 pro and sport will be the main contenders with very close technical capabilities and affordable price tags ! Fanatec ecosystem will be a major pro for many customers already owning Fanatec gear, wheels and pedal set or looking for a plug n' play experience. Granite Device will appeal to those who are more interested in using hi-end expensive custom wheels or pedals from exotic brands. To each his own! ^^ Great review btw!
The more torque you have (using it or not depending on the size of your biceps and the strength of your wrists ^^) the more definition you get. And precision. And speed. The more the better. There are other differences too. SC2 sport vs Pro have some different specs and I guess it's the same with the Podiums.
@@PataWTF in a way it does. Clipping, anyone? Anyway, I own the Pro, and it feels awesome. I personally think that the price tag of the Pro and DD2 aren't so high that you need to buy a DD1 or Sport. IMO. But I may be wrong ^^
Will, I really like the way you do your reviews and vids, very logical and intuitive. You really do a very good job of getting all the points across in an unbiased way. I started sim racing on pc2 and didn’t notice the total lack of grip the game has until I started playing iracing and went back to playing pc2 for some league races, it almost felt un-drivable, so I completely understand when you say you feel disconnected from the road surface. With the experience that you felt with the drivers it stands to reason that improvements will come from both sides, after all it is an electric motor and it will only do what the software tells it to. But keep up the great work definitely one of the best sim racing channels out there 👍🏻
I can say that I've had no issues with the DD2, and the new drivers/firmware transformed it. Fanatec owns my soul, though, due to the ecosystem. When my Clubsport v2 died, and already owning the v3 pedals, SQ shifter, and the handbrake, it was really a no-brainer for me. And with each driver update, the experience gets better. Loving the wheel, especially being able to swap out the rims per car/game as needed. Everything just 'works' for me.
I was reading about people having problems with the beta drivers that I am afraid to try them. I am still running the latest full release drivers. I cannot wait for the beta to go full release.
Thats interesting, because the drivers is where Fanatec lost me. Big time. I had to uninstall drivers to go back to working versions so many times and had so many driver issues even on a clean PC! It’s BS to call drivers „beta“ to being able to say „Oh, but it’s only beta!“. If you want details you get a grainy feel around the middle on the new drivers, linearity turns that off, but also butchers 50% of all FFB details. I‘m changing to Simucube.
Ty___ Charles Brother, I‘ve been on PCs for over 30 years now. So rest assured it’s not a stupid user acting. Around the middle there is a steady trickle in the background when I have the FFB at a strength and detail I would like to have. Surely, if I slap on linearity it’s gone, but so is most of the detail. And that’s a trade off I‘m not willing to do. I‘ve played around with Fanatec drivers for the last two years now, and their getting it right half of the time just doesn’t do it for me. Anyway, the thing is sold, the Simucube 2 already sits on the rig, and next week the Ascher Wheel will complete my new setup. You drive what suits you, I drive what suits me. No reason to call me an idiot. Tells us something about yourself.
Surely the community for Fanatec DD will become larger and with this bring more user profiles to use and find ones specific users like? The ultimate is just way overkill for what most people need. Id even question if people need the DD2 over the DD1 and put that money towards a couple of wheel-rims?
I know this comment is two years old, but I think this is a really important point that has played out. The profiles available now for DD1/DD2 which can be applied via Fanalab allow for more time driving and less time tweaking settings. This is a really great feature of the DD1/DD2 in 2022.
Fantastic video 🙏 I'm hoping my Simucube Ultimate arrives in the next 2-3 weeks and we can start assembly of my new sim in the garage the 2nd week of Jan. I'm 3D printing all the parts for the open source motion setup which is pretty exciting also 👍 You're review was amazing! Subscribed.
Im happy with my simucube2 pro but its nice to see they are sorting their drivers out and that people can now get a pretty good experience out of their DD whoever they buy it from.
Obviously simucube will be better. Just ordered a DD2 for a couple lessons. Full console support. Can play Xbox Ps and PC. Why idk I only play PC but if I ever want to do some fun driving console will be available. Next the Evo system again want full compatibility pedals and wheels. Finally all the Fanatec wheels they are super decent and for the price I don't want to pay 1000 for a good open wheel or a circle endurance wheel.
Ive decided to order the Fanatec, great review, no doubt the Simucube maybe slightly better but the hassle that comes with it I just don't have the time and patience, ACC is the go to sim.. It really has come a long away and will only get better.
Oh jeez. Still no idea which way to go, but but swinging back towards the DD1. Wish there were some proper Sport reviews out there. Quality review, info and presentation. Very slick 👌
I've owned all 3, I would recommend you look for a used 30nm sc1. I've seen a couple floating used for $800, the hardware is bulletproof and will be on par if not slightly better than the dd2 for near half the price.
@@Kev84M Thanks for the suggestion. For me the DD1 and SC2 appeal because they are self contained. The SC2 Sport appeals particuarly because of its form factor, only needing one PSU and more choice of wheels, etc. 17nm is more than enough. The Fanatec recommended settings mean torque of about 6-7nm even for a DD2!
get the sc 2 pro/sport :) i have the sc2 ultimat, and the best thing about it, is truedrive. the little hardware defferences arent as important as the software (i had osw lenze, leo bodnar ss2 and now sc2 ultimate). i am sure the sc2 sport will feel like the sc2 ultimate, simply a bit more dampened (what makes it easier to get feeling right) and without that super crazy accelleration that the sc2 ultimate produces without proper settings.
great review :) i think the consistancy between sims, will be better on sc2 sport, maybe even on sc2 pro compared to sc2 ultimate. the sc2 ultimate has literally no internal damping, paired with a really high slewrate and 32nm of torque, which feels just brutal. its really important to find the right truedrive setting with the sc2 ultimate, to get a realistic and more 'tamed' feeling. the sc2 pro and sport have more internal damping, and a lower slewrate, what causes less problems and needs less adjustments between sims, i think :) had the bodnar ss2 before, and for me the biggest challenge with the sc2 ultimate was to get my damping/inertia and friction just right. its pretty hard to get a good setup without using 15-30% each. the iracing stock profile for example feels pretty good, but the peaks are much to heavy. driving stiff cars like dallare dw12, radical or audi gto feels just weird and unnatural for me. the beano settings are not bad, but the wheel loses all its fidelity and precision with that high damping and inertia values. but after 3 month i am pretty happy with my settings now haha but i am sure its much easier to find a good setting on the sc2 pro or sport. i talked with simtag about the sc2 models, and they also told me that the super sharp and hard peaks are sc2 ultimate specific, due to the super free spinning motor and extreme slewrate.
Can we get a comparison between the sc2 pro and the dd2. I feel like is not fair comparison the sc2 ultimate with the dd2 since there’s a 1k prices difference
Hi mate Great videos! I am looking at getting the Fanatec Podium with V3 pedals for my PS4, what rig would you recommend? I was looking at a Next Level Racing GTTrack or Sim Lab P1 what would you recommend for the same price?
Enjoyed the product series, looking forward to my first purchase sometime next year. Simple yet detailed explanation! Unlike my engineering teacher back in my college years, had you been my undergrad teacher I would be working for NASA today. 😄
Hey mate, out of curiosity, is there a reason you gravitated toward titles that aren't known for particularly stellar force feedback? Was it to test the high-end bases' ability to derive details from subpar signals?
Hey Will. Very comprehensive review. Thanks! I appreciate the effort you put in and the lengths you went to in order to be accurate and informative. At some point in the future, if you can "acquire" one, you should do the Accuforce Pro, which (including shipping from the USA) is about $1500AU. I've just bought one, so I'd love to hear your opinion on it, and how it compares with it's peers.
You really should have included rfactor2 in your review, that title has hands down the best physics and force-feedback out of any title. This title once dialed in was the one where I felt a massive difference with the higher end hardware.
Go buy it, if you own all these high end wheel bases you are missing out. Download Bathurst 2016 and try out the Porsche 911 from the gt3 pack. You will want to punch a hole in the wall initially setting up the sim, but once you have it dialed in then you will be blown away. RF2 ffb has ruined every other sim for me.
Agree on rf2 as the current king of force feedback. Beyond Bathurst I’d recommend the new laser scanner Sebring track for testing force feedback. I’m always amazed at how great rumble strips feel in rf2.
I am looking at getting the podium wheel but I am just wondering whether its worth it over the csl elite considering there is a big price difference i currently have a g29. so either way it will be a big improvement
Absolutely. I'm hoping to get my hands on a Pro for some closer comparison, but The point of the video wasn't to compare the two directly, but to look at each objectively.
so, I own a sc2 sport. it seems to me more and more sims are being optimized for the Podium, from what i hear r3e and acc feels great in with that, which doesn't happen with sc2. therefore, because i am always jumping from one sim to another, i am considering what to do in the next few months, i might become the first to go from sc2 to the podium. i am a huge simucube supporter, always had been, but seems to me most sims doesn’t give a damn sh*t about that system. it wasn’t in my plans to spend that amount of money to be able to play just 3 sims, you know, and frankly i am quite pissed.
Raceroom has a Simucube Profile like they have a Podium profile. after the FFB update in raceroom I reset all my FFB settings, started a new simucube profile and FFB was back good again.. actually better than before.
Support and optimization is bizzarely overlooked in these reviews. I was having trouble looking for info on Fanatecs PS4 compatable DD1. People will say it works, but if you play GT Sport with it, I believe its going to be read as a CSL Elite, which is probably not super optimized. Please let us know if there are any software updates or settings that fixed your issue.
No but there are a few aftermarket solutions available, and more about to hit the market. Honestly though I think it’s blown out of proportion. It really isn’t noticeable when driving and I’m not aware of anyone who’s had snapped pins as a result on the DD1 or DD2. Snapped pins seems to be limited to the CSW2.5.
Out of the box? It took me a long while to get it working the way I wanted. So many settings and then you have all the settings withing a game and finally the car setup. Never had the "robotic" feeling even with the old drivers and the only problem I have is that they shake the hell out of my arms. Have just accepted a $5 for 3 month rejoin deal with iRacing and have been trying to set it up for the Pro Mazda at the Nurb Nord ( Green Hell )and after a hour my arms are stuffed but that combination is all I will be doing in iRacing also I see the difference in $ is $1500 and what wheels are available ?
Merry Christmas! I hope you had a great holiday. My question/request is slightly off-topic but I'll throw it out there anyway. I know you primarily run PC based sims, but would you or could you consider doing one of those drill-down videos on GT Sport? I know the DD2 is not set up for it, and I'm not sure with all of your gadgetry if you could get it to work. But tomorrow, 26 Dec, I'll finally get my Podium Racing Wheel F1 delivered. Of course this is the DD1 for PS4. I plan on getting a PC in the future to run PC sims, but it would be great to see if you could do one of you great vids on console content. V/R Keith.
Hey Will, thanks for another great video and answering my questions. I'm a long time Fanatec user and fan. I have the CSW 2.5, ClubSport handbrake, V3 pedals and shifter. However, I recently upgraded, after lot's of hand wringing, to the SimuCube Pro. I swapped out my CSW and am EXTREMELY happy. Why? Smaller form factor, all metal construction, wireless wheel support, can use high end wheels like the Ascher Racing F28 (and modded Fanatec wheels). Having also tried the Fanatec DD1, I would agree with your conclusion, there is no bad decision here.
great video as always Will. I am getting ready to pull the trigger on a DD system, have watch pretty much all your videos and some other creators on YT. Regarding wheel base footprint I have seen some people mention that the Fanatec been a bit bigger it creates a small adjustment problem when fitting bellow 32" triple screens, if you would what is your opinion on it? thank you
@@boostedmedia thanks for the reply Will, any videos or images for his setup? I have the Samsung G7's and it has a beefy lower bezel with the TrakRacer T80 rig
So would you say for someone like myself that races ovals and road with the two Fanatec Wheels I have, it would be better to get the DD2 over say the Simucube? And that's including iRacing, Assetto Corsa and various other sims / games.
Hey man, what's your opinion on a DD wheel like this compared to a belt driven like the CSW 2.5 for the average consumer? I can't seem to find much of a direct, but very short and concise comparison. :)
@@boostedmedia I can second this. I had a CSW 2.5 before and now i have a SC2 Pro. The difference is staggering for me. Mostly catching slides and immersion is an area that improved very much.
great video and overall review, would you be willing to take a look at iRFFB? its an Iracing Spacific piece of software that allows you to upscale the FFB Hz from 60hz to 360hz. I am thinking iRFFB in combo with the latest Beta Drivers for the fanatec DD might be a good match. I have tried it in the past but was not certin if I was doing things correctly and couldn't feel a difference.
Hi Will, Any chance you could share your DD2 setups? The 352 driver has messed mine up and I never really got it working well in R3E/AC and ACC. Would be very much appreciated!
Hi! Could I ask something? I have a DD1, and when it's off its butter smooth turning the wheel. However when it's on and I'm not actually driving, I can feel like it is going through notches as I turn it. Does this happen to you too? And if so, does the simucube have any trace of that or how does it compare in this regard? Thanks and keep up the good work
There is a new driver out since yesterday. It increases resolution from 8 to 256 bit and introduces new things like inertia setting. Will test it soon?
@@boostedmedia Yeah. Just came across part 3. Thanks and thumbs up for this still! I'm pretty happy with my DD2 since the beginning btw. But don't have a baseline of comparison against other DD wheels.
I’d love to see a comparison of the Simucube pro and the DD2. The ultimate is amazing but also 1000 more and puts out more nm. The SC pro and DD2 seem to have similar specs, including price and nm
The SC2 Pro should feel identical to the Ultimate "at this point" unless you are using it's full power which almost no one is doing. However SimuCube has new reconstruction filters coming specifically for the Ultimate with it's extra processing power that is supposed to start tapping its potential. The problem with reviewing these products is that they are moving targets and both continue to evolve as their software improves.
@@markkovalcson7243 i own the sc2 ultimate, and i am pretty sure the sc2 pro feels 99% same 😄 it simply has a bit more internal damping, what isnt a bad thing.
Great job with all 3 vids! Shame about your experience with pc2. If u didn't change the fanate recommended settings I'm not surprised. Base ffb should be much higher ie 70 then reduce volume to suit in game. Or 100/25/50/50. Try oulton park/bannochbrae/long beach with lmp2, Ferrari fxx k, panoz gt1, ginetta gt4. There are combos that are really sub par so if that's what u drove I'm not surprised.
Hey. Is this DD2, being combined with the new firmware, the same as a DD1, just weaker? I am looking at buying a DD1, unless the DD2 provides increased feel/force feed back BESIDES the motor being stronger (I likely will not even need 18 NM for example)
Boosted Media oh man, any hints for someone who’s impatient? I feel like my verdict is DD1 because dd2 is the same motor as DD1 but toned down, and u don’t get 5 years warranty, only 3. I don’t think I’ll need all the torque the dd2 provides.
What's the main difference between the DD series and the csw 2.5? Is it worth the extra for a casual racer? Got a fanatec elite,Xbox hub and F1 wheel. Play mainly F1,Forza horizon and VR. Maybe race 1-2 hrs a week. I would be going DD1 or 2.5.
Thanks, going for DD. Simucube pro or DD1, don't suppose you've a vid on that too or some advice lol. Both similar in price. Read on simucube,I can still use fanatec wheels if they're connected. Really like that F1 V2 and magnetic shifters. Outside of that not fussed. 75% of the time,be used for vr.
Thanks very much mate. I haven’t tried a DD1 personally so I can’t speak to the difference in driving experience, but despite using the same motor as the DD2, it has lower spec electronics as well so I’d expect marginally less fidelity and a slightly more robotic feel than the DD2. And of course less warranty. Others will be in a better position to comment though :)
Absolutely. Hopefully I can get my hands on a Pro before long to compare more directly but the point here is that while the Ultimate is undoubtedly the best wheelbase on the market currently, the DD2 is still excellent, and especially when you consider the price difference.
@@simonchidgey5870 if I can get my hands on one absolutely. I feel like most of the points will be the same though. The overall driving experience may be more closely matched but that's about it.
Would be great if you can compare the SC2 Pro vs the SC2 Ultimate. It's said the Pro has better natural dampening as it has more friction. Another good test would be the Bodnar SS2 vs SC2 Ultimate ;) Thanks for the videos mate!
I have one question I heard this unit only connects wirelessly with Wi-Fi, is this true or can you hardwire it to the PS4 console by USB? I'm concerned because I would think a unit at this price level would allow both options. I do not trust wireless for reliability of connection.
Great series as I didn’t even know there was new beta driver’s. Glad I subscribed to your channel months ago Did u happen to share your setting. I might have missed that. But in all honesty I didn’t notice much with the upgrade other Then getting A odd feedback noise in the wheel where is wasnt there before. Maybe it’s my setting
Not going to be in the market anytime soon at my rate, but I sure can still appreciate a comprehensive review and comparison like this, thanks Will :) I think Fanatec may have me convinced for now, between the ecosystem they've established, the lower cost, and the work they've done on their recommended settings to get a measure of consistency all sound really important to me - especially when I like to play Raceroom and Assetto the most for now (and iRacing when I reactivate my licence haha)
I still can't decide. Some days, I think SC2 Pro, other days I think DD2. Fanatec would be the easier option for sure but with Project Cars 2 being my main sim (I disagree with you on the FFB. With the right Jack Spade files, it feels better to me than Assetto Corsa), you have definitely given me something to research and to think about before purchase. That being said, either one will be a HUGE upgrade from my long suffering, trusty old T300 RS 😂
Bought my SC2 pro from Augury (Spain) bundled with the Simulaje F1S wheel Barry Roland reviewed. Around 1900€ with a motor mount included. Brilliant straight outta the box, mate! I'm mostly playing Iracing and ACC btw. Carbon and aluminium all the way, no plastic. Quality matters!
@@sebastienbouche7069 I like the idea of a wheel being bundled with the unit. There is also the option of a 10% discount off the SRC GT1 Pro, which is a wheel I was looking at anyway. I hadn't considered Augury, I will add them to the list. How long after you ordered did it arrive?
@@Speckle72 I had to wait for the fourth batch to be shipped over from Granite Device to their retailers. When Augury (south of Spain) shipped it to me (North of France) it took less than a week ^^ and they've been very helpful answering the many questions I had in a few hours only!
@@sebastienbouche7069 same bundle purchased myself and LOVE it. There are base truedrive settings and many other options online but it comes down to personal preference. Regardless it doesn't take long to get setup well.
and there it is! Been waiting for this one :) My takeaway from this is although the sc is ultimately better with the finer details, it really represents diminishing returns given the price difference. Given I was already invested in the fanatec eco-system it sounds like I made the right choice with my DD1. Happy boy ! In your opinion then Will, is the gap in fidelity between the two bases down to a lack of maturity in the drivers for the DD do you think? Or are the gains between the sc and the dd purely found at a fundamental hardware level? Guessing a mix of both... Great video bud, loving your stuff at the moment & thanks for all your hard work in producing these. Have a great Christmas and I'm looking forward to more of the same next year :)
I think the difference is a bit of both. Both platforms continue to evolve at a software level and SC are also about to release a big upgrade to their filters too. I don’t think the gap between the SC2 Ultimate and the DD2 will be closed because the hardware is fundamentally better. Different style of motor, faster processor, higher quality and higher resolution sensors etc. But the DD2 with the new drivers is fantastic in its own right and as I said, once you’re immersed in your gameplay the difference is for the most part forgotten.
Except the sc2 pro performs almost identical to the ultimate at this point, I believe Beano even stated he preferred the SC2 pro over the ultimate on some cars. The SC2 pro is also $100 cheaper than the DD2 through DSD, making the decision easier.
@@Rice_Cake_ You can use fanatec rims, it cost me $25 and about 15 minutes to convert my BMW m2. If you want to use a non fanatec rim on the podium you will have to purchase a $200 Podium hub to make it compatible, whereas with the simucube all you need is a cheap wheel side quick release. There are plenty of affordable third-party rims on the market otherwise, sometimes being locked into a closed proprietary ecosystem is a disadvantage.
Just downloaded the new driver for my DD1, thank you mate! I'm getting a new screen these days, should I go with triple screen or with ultrawide one? Anyone who has tried both?
I think different content would be a good choice. I am one that won't buy into the iRacing model but I do love Sim racing. I think assetto Corsa competizione has really done a fantastic job as their previous title and automobilista 2 is another great racing Sim that has just been released. So other content would be advantageous. Your review I thank you was a great review of the hardware and definitely helps making a decision 👍
Thank you for being quite clear with direct comparison, Will! I think this was the most desirable part for most of the people. And everyone found something for their own. In my case - You helped me to get these last bits of confidence that I'm not wrong with choosing SC2. "Only the best is good enough". This is kinda my life approach and I was pleasingly surprised when seen this quote as SC2 Ultimate slogan. And now you kinda confirmed that SC2 is really the best. Aaand yeah, at this point, next intersting thing is to see a comparison between Ultimate and Pro to get full imagination - is Ultimate really the best of the best, ot it just have slightly stronger FFB than Pro and all other stuff is just marketing. Like you know they give Low price product, Mid price and High price, which is slightly better than Mid one to manipulate us choosing Mid over Low.
Hey will quick question about sims. I currently play nascar heat 3/4, f1, and forza but I want to get into a serious sim. Iracing isnt a big option for me because I have terrible internet so it needs to be against CPU. I'm on pc debating assetto corsa/competizione, and PC2. Which would you reccomend
PC2 has more variety than ACC. But nowhere near as realistic. AC would probably be my pick of the three if I had to choose just one. Good AI, massive variety of content and great visual and physics with a few mods.
@Zachary Menking I love oval racing tooo, that the biggest reason I'd try iracing, I wish nascar would make a great sim with every different series, including arca and kn
@Zachary Menking you definetly struck my interest, imma check it out. I'm debating heat 4 but heat 3 has so much I dont like that I'm probably gonna hold out till heat 5 or if there is ever a good sim
Thanks for your video. Very well made and fantastic content. I am wondering if it is it possible to make a video to compare Fanatec's DD1 and its younger brother, the Club Sports2.5 in the future? More specifically, just wondering how DD1 compares to CS2.5 after dialling down the torque on the DD1? I am about to build my first sim rig. Since I can see myself keep upgrading my gears in the near future, I want to buy something that can last. What would you recommend for someone who'd mostly focus on playing GT and F1 style games? I understand the two wheel bases are very different. To add more complexity to my question, I am planning to use a foldable cockpit (Extreme Sim Racing Wheel Stand Cockpit SGT: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07SHHNT3Q/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=A4I08D827L7QE&psc=1), which I understand is not the most rigid. And I will also be running the games out of an Xbox (until I make room for a PC rig).
Basically the CSW2.5 just feels more dampened due to Crüe belt and not as strong. It’s still a great base but not in the same ballpark. Unfortunately I don’t have my CSW2.5 anymore so I can’t do a side by side comparison. I had to sell it to pay for other gear to review. :)
@@boostedmedia Thanks for your view! I also heard that there could be some clipping and some noticeable difference on a smoothly paved straightaway, where DDs will have some holding torque. Whereas CSl/CSW2.5 could feel 'dead'. Since, I plan to be staying, i think i will just get the DD1.
Great breakdown Will haven’t purchased a direct drive wheel yet but currently own original Fanatec club sport v1 wheelbase so I would probably go for the Fanatec because of already been owner of Fanatec products but also I think the Fanatec is really good value for money compared to the Simcube. But your right everybody will have there own reasons for choice. Love your videos Will keep up the good work mate. 👍
you've got two horns coming out back of your head! hahahhahah...love your reviews man! good stuff...keep them coming EDIT: what gloves you using in the video?
@@sporadikstyles I got the DD1 just because of it, and to be honest, realistically the max FFB strenght i set it to is about 75%. So that DD2 power overhead would give me absolutely nothing, and a power lead with an on/off button is just as good as a killswitch. Never needed it though.
If the dd1 sides n top part come of you could rap that to give you better look and save money But for me I am looking at the simucube sport and the dam wheels to buy are so dam expensive. Stuck on the fence and also dd1 is massive compared to the sport n my rig just doesn’t n would be hard to make it work.
Partially, yes. The ClubSport version comes with a Universal Hub for Xbox One, which makes it Xbox compatible in general. However, it's absolutely a waste of money because most of the advanced functions like the MPS and LEDs and Display do not work on Xbox because Xbox protocol doesn't support those features... But in general you could race with it, just without all the features which makes this wheel special. ^^
@@steviemac2475 PS4 compatibility comes through the wheel base, not the wheel. So basically EVERY Fanatec wheel is PS4 compatible when used with a PS4 compatible wheel base.
Watching this I was afraid Im gonna get some lukewarm shit opinion, but glad you actually had something to say about both in terms of negatives and positives. There's too much sponsored content on YT.
Yep. The lines between “review” and “endorsement” are being blurred far too much on TH-cam and it’s getting worse. Most of the bigger sim channels seem to be decent though which is good. It’s horrendously bad in the tech gadget and PC space by comparison. Any time you’re being paid for a review, it’s not a review.
@@boostedmedia That's right - an ad is an ad, even if its just a sponsored review. And let's be real - there's some sim channels where the hosts look like they're gonna drool over the free shit they get - quickly they become crusaders for those brands. And Im talking about some pretty big channels and "sim personalities"... But then we get guys like Barry and you're prety new to the scene, but at least not a sell out, so things are looking good for the future :) It really takes some bravery to speak the truth in our commercial times. P.S. But please stop doing that thing with the hand every 3 secs - mix in some other gestures for variety... :)
@@boostedmedia Not too awkward, just very repetetive with it. Teleprompter was cool though - it looked very natural, I thought you just have a good flow... Hahahah... :)
I ask myself, when you didn't feel a big difference between the DD2 and the CSW2.5 with the previous drivers and now it's a lot better with the beta drivers released just a couple of days ago. What were the other reviewers talking about? All of them said it is so much better than the CSW2.5. Looks like you can't trust these reviewers then.
i installed the new beta 352 on my csw V2.5 and nope went straight back to the 347, the feeling was way to heavy and damped, but i guess this update is more aimed for the DD wheel bases

Ok let me start by saying I always enjoy your vids. However i dont quite agree with this comparison. I personally compared the DD1 to simucube sport, DD2 to Simucube Pro and the ultimate i just see as in its own league; i think the prices of the units in comparison reflects this. This review does the DD2 no justice and does not truely compare the Simucube Ultimate
The ultimate is in its own league as I said in the video. It is undoubtedly the best wheel base on the market. Even Fanatec themselves will tell your this. I’m not sure how you ended up with the impression I thought the DD2 was as good. What I said was that the differences are primarily down to the finer details. And that that may not be as important as other features to some people.
PS that’s good feedback to cheer you felt the DD2 vs Sport and DD2 vs Pro were positioned and priced competitively. I’m certainly keen to test those out too. But unfortunately I can o lot base my reviews on my own personal experience. As time goes on and I get my hands on more gear my experience to draw upon will also increase which will in turn increase the quality and diversity of the review.
@@boostedmedia it was just that you referred to the ultimate alot in comparison. I know when I was buying it was between the dd2 and the simucube pro as they compared at price point. Enjoyed the 3 vids anyway. If you do get your hands on a pro I would enjoy a comparison of that with the dd2. Keep up the good work
At this moment the pro and the ultimate perform nearly identical, with the ultimate blending 5nm of extra headroom. You'll get slightly more natural inertia out of the larger motor. However in the future the ultimate offer more advantages.
Thanks a lot Travis.
I love we have more companies to battle out and helps support good competition for better products for the consumer. Healthy competition
This is a great in-depth review. All three parts gave me a really clear understanding of the product. Hats off for a job well done! I really appreciate content like this.
Thanks Eric
Will love the positioning of Spa and Monza. On occasions I couldn’t stop smiling at what looked like Reindeer antlers.
Anyway, yet another brilliant video.
Thanks you. Really makes a difference what you do.
Lmao! I didn’t even notice that. Merry Christmas I guess. Lol!
Will that should be your positioning for all future reviews. I will be disappointed if I don’t see rain deer antlers in future videos. Merry Christmas
Just discovered your channel a couple of days ago and I am loving your content so far.
Thanks Steven! Lots of exciting stuff coming. You’ve joined in at the best time :)
Great review btw!
Very well summarised.
The more torque you have (using it or not depending on the size of your biceps and the strength of your wrists ^^) the more definition you get. And precision. And speed.
The more the better.
There are other differences too. SC2 sport vs Pro have some different specs and I guess it's the same with the Podiums.
the sc2 pro and ultimate feel 99% the same. the ultimate simply has more power, and a bit more internal damping.
@@sebastienbouche7069 and having more power isnt giving you any details or fidelity. you simply have more power, which you dont need
Major Wolf 72 lol don’t blame your incompetence on Fanatec. The drivers are trouble free if installed correctly
Thanks again. Yup ACC is currently a go to Sim for life like immersion. Feels like my real life Porsche.
Fanatec roadmap for 2020 would help me decide. Curious what further updates will get the most out of the dd2
Thanks for the in depth review Will. Much appreciated!
You’re welcome Eric. Hopefully I can get my hands on an SC2 Pro for a head to head comparison in the future.
Will you did a really fantastic job on this series. Thanks mate.!
Subscribed.
Thanks brother. So stoked to see you’re getting involved in the sim community again :) We missed you!
SFX100?
What a legend, can't wait for your return next year and see what you bring for the community.
"the best customer support is the one you don't need..." Granite Devices' credo on this topic :D
btw: Simucube launched in early 2015
Fanatec have a similar credo : "you don't need the best customer support". They excel at not delivering it!
Im happy with my simucube2 pro but its nice to see they are sorting their drivers out and that people can now get a pretty good experience out of their DD whoever they buy it from.
Awesome series mate, really good work !!
Thanks Ricky.
That is exactly the problem with the Simucube wheel and other similar models. It's a full time job adjusting them
Hi there, can you attempt to do a review on the DD2 vs Simucube 2 Sport vs Simucube 2 Pro in future?
Would be interesting to compare DD2 and Simucube2 Pro...
sumcube 2 Ultimate
Obviously simucube will be better. Just ordered a DD2 for a couple lessons. Full console support. Can play Xbox Ps and PC. Why idk I only play PC but if I ever want to do some fun driving console will be available. Next the Evo system again want full compatibility pedals and wheels. Finally all the Fanatec wheels they are super decent and for the price I don't want to pay 1000 for a good open wheel or a circle endurance wheel.
Nice video. Very fair and thorough.
Love to see rFactor 2 in your reviews
Hey Will! When will an in-depth review for the GT3 wheel come online? I’m waiting for your review before I buy it.
As soon as the software is finalised mate.
Boosted Media alright, thanks man, keep up the good work!
@@boostedmedia Another short question. How do you get the DD display to work like that @14:21?
Ive decided to order the Fanatec, great review, no doubt the Simucube maybe slightly better but the hassle that comes with it I just don't have the time and patience, ACC is the go to sim.. It really has come a long away and will only get better.
what hassle comes with simucube? oO
Oh jeez. Still no idea which way to go, but but swinging back towards the DD1. Wish there were some proper Sport reviews out there. Quality review, info and presentation. Very slick 👌
Thanks very much. I’m confident you’ll be happy either way.
@@PataWTF Rgr that! Thanks mate :)
Great video
I am going to get the DD1 with F1 wheel
Looking forward to it
great review :)
i think the consistancy between sims, will be better on sc2 sport, maybe even on sc2 pro compared to sc2 ultimate. the sc2 ultimate has literally no internal damping, paired with a really high slewrate and 32nm of torque, which feels just brutal. its really important to find the right truedrive setting with the sc2 ultimate, to get a realistic and more 'tamed' feeling. the sc2 pro and sport have more internal damping, and a lower slewrate, what causes less problems and needs less adjustments between sims, i think :) had the bodnar ss2 before, and for me the biggest challenge with the sc2 ultimate was to get my damping/inertia and friction just right. its pretty hard to get a good setup without using 15-30% each. the iracing stock profile for example feels pretty good, but the peaks are much to heavy. driving stiff cars like dallare dw12, radical or audi gto feels just weird and unnatural for me. the beano settings are not bad, but the wheel loses all its fidelity and precision with that high damping and inertia values. but after 3 month i am pretty happy with my settings now haha but i am sure its much easier to find a good setting on the sc2 pro or sport. i talked with simtag about the sc2 models, and they also told me that the super sharp and hard peaks are sc2 ultimate specific, due to the super free spinning motor and extreme slewrate.
Can we get a comparison between the sc2 pro and the dd2. I feel like is not fair comparison the sc2 ultimate with the dd2 since there’s a 1k prices difference
I’ll hopefully be getting a loan of an SC2 sport and pro before long to compare.
Hi mate
Great videos! I am looking at getting the Fanatec Podium with V3 pedals for my PS4, what rig would you recommend? I was looking at a Next Level Racing GTTrack or Sim Lab P1 what would you recommend for the same price?
Great helpful review! Thanks so much
Enjoyed the product series, looking forward to my first purchase sometime next year.
Not sure what you mean. I tested just about every title.
With everything you said sounds like for me I made right choice going with fanatec DD at the moment
Impossible to cover every single title and RF2 is not a title I own or have any experience with. Maybe a subject for another video later on.
@@boostedmedia I understand, but when we're talking about force-feedback comparisons rf2 is the gold standard in ffb right now.
@@prescient The new nordschliefe is also phenomenal. Just the road texture alone feels impressive.
I am looking at getting the podium wheel but I am just wondering whether its worth it over the csl elite considering there is a big price difference i currently have a g29. so either way it will be a big improvement
I think it would need to be compared with the pro as the ultimate is in an completely different price bracket
Absolutely. I'm hoping to get my hands on a Pro for some closer comparison, but The point of the video wasn't to compare the two directly, but to look at each objectively.
Thanks mate this was an interesting review series.
so, I own a sc2 sport.
it seems to me more and more sims are being optimized for the Podium, from what i hear r3e and acc feels great in with that, which doesn't happen with sc2.
therefore, because i am always jumping from one sim to another, i am considering what to do in the next few months, i might become the first to go from sc2 to the podium.
i am a huge simucube supporter, always had been, but seems to me most sims doesn’t give a damn sh*t about that system.
it wasn’t in my plans to spend that amount of money to be able to play just 3 sims, you know, and frankly i am quite pissed.
I think you’ll find things will improve over time with Simucube as they have done with FANATEC. Remember it’s a very new platform.
@@boostedmedia I really hope Will..
THIS
Raceroom has a Simucube Profile like they have a Podium profile. after the FFB update in raceroom I reset all my FFB settings, started a new simucube profile and FFB was back good again.. actually better than before.
Support and optimization is bizzarely overlooked in these reviews. I was having trouble looking for info on Fanatecs PS4 compatable DD1. People will say it works, but if you play GT Sport with it, I believe its going to be read as a CSL Elite, which is probably not super optimized. Please let us know if there are any software updates or settings that fixed your issue.
did they fix that wobble on the quick release? thats the only thing stoppping me from buying it
No but there are a few aftermarket solutions available, and more about to hit the market.
Have just accepted a $5 for 3 month rejoin deal with iRacing and have been trying to set it up for the Pro Mazda at the Nurb Nord ( Green Hell )and after a hour my arms are stuffed but that combination is all I will be doing in iRacing
also I see the difference in $ is $1500 and what wheels are available ?
Great video thank you, could you tell me what Beta Drivers you were using?
Have a watch of part 2. All covered in detail. I was using 352.
Thank you Will. This seals the deal for me and I will be going to Fanatec next year from a G29. I’m hoping for a Direct Drive CSW.
This exists now. You can attach the CSW to the podium wheelbase.
V/R
Keith.
Can you use any of your fanatec stuff with the Simucube or did you have to get rid of everything and get all new accessories too?
great video as always Will.
I am getting ready to pull the trigger on a DD system, have watch pretty much all your videos and some other creators on YT. Regarding wheel base footprint I have seen some people mention that the Fanatec been a bit bigger it creates a small adjustment problem when fitting bellow 32" triple screens, if you would what is your opinion on it?
thank you
On Tom’s rig we drop the monitor between the wheel and the base and it works well.
With the new drivers it’s night and day.
I can take a look, but that’s essentially what the interpolation filter is already doing.
Can you use the dd2 on the next level racing gt track cockpit with a good solid attachment?
Hi Will,
Any chance you could share your DD2 setups? The 352 driver has messed mine up and I never really got it working well in R3E/AC and ACC. Would be very much appreciated!
This review was based off Fanatec’s recommended setups for all 3 of those games, along with the new interpolation filter set to 5.
@@boostedmedia Thanks for the speedy reply!
Hi! Could I ask something? I have a DD1, and when it's off its butter smooth turning the wheel. However when it's on and I'm not actually driving, I can feel like it is going through notches as I turn it. Does this happen to you too? And if so, does the simucube have any trace of that or how does it compare in this regard?
Thanks and keep up the good work
@@designamk1160 returned my dd1 and got the SC2. It's butter smooth now
There is a new driver out since yesterday. It increases resolution from 8 to 256 bit and introduces new things like inertia setting. Will test it soon?

@@boostedmedia Ah alright. :) Thank you. Did you checked against the older drivers?
I think you’d better watch part 2 mate.
@@boostedmedia Yeah. Just came across part 3. Thanks and thumbs up for this still! I'm pretty happy with my DD2 since the beginning btw. But don't have a baseline of comparison against other DD wheels.
How much heavier DD2 is? The motor looks very big & bulky compared to that simucube
I’d love to see a comparison of the Simucube pro and the DD2. The ultimate is amazing but also 1000 more and puts out more nm. The SC pro and DD2 seem to have similar specs, including price and nm
Will do my best to get my hands on one
The SC2 Pro should feel identical to the Ultimate "at this point" unless you are using it's full power which almost no one is doing. However SimuCube has new reconstruction filters coming specifically for the Ultimate with it's extra processing power that is supposed to start tapping its potential. The problem with reviewing these products is that they are moving targets and both continue to evolve as their software improves.
@@markkovalcson7243 i own the sc2 ultimate, and i am pretty sure the sc2 pro feels 99% same 😄 it simply has a bit more internal damping, what isnt a bad thing.
Great review! Do you still need to use Nvidia surround to play f1 2019 with triple screen?
Yes
I’m actually working on a video comparing DD1 to DD2 directly right now. :) should be up in the next week or so.
Check out this video: th-cam.com/video/GHGg8u4FUBY/w-d-xo.html
Thanks, going for DD. Simucube pro or DD1, don't suppose you've a vid on that too or some advice lol. Both similar in price. Read on simucube,I can still use fanatec wheels if they're connected. Really like that F1 V2 and magnetic shifters. Outside of that not fussed. 75% of the time,be used for vr.
Hi , can you do a compare fanatec dd to simcube or vrs one more time? Because fanatec with newest software its much more better
Hey Will! I ordered DD1 today using your link :) any idea about the differences between DD1 and DD2? Thanks in advance!
With the new software update Im hoping it won’t disappoint. I can’t wait it’s gonna be a huge jump from CSL elite wheel base to a DD base
Having used both dd1 and dd2 the only real world difference is tq output and warranty duration. 2 vs 5 years
Does the affiliate link work again?
in fairness, the ultimate should feel better.its $2000 aud more, nearly double
Absolutely. Hopefully I can get my hands on a Pro before long to compare more directly but the point here is that while the Ultimate is undoubtedly the best wheelbase on the market currently, the DD2 is still excellent, and especially when you consider the price difference.
could u compare against simcube pro
@@boostedmedia by the way....great review....love the channel will
@@simonchidgey5870 if I can get my hands on one absolutely. I feel like most of the points will be the same though. The overall driving experience may be more closely matched but that's about it.
Would be great if you can compare the SC2 Pro vs the SC2 Ultimate. It's said the Pro has better natural dampening as it has more friction. Another good test would be the Bodnar SS2 vs SC2 Ultimate ;) Thanks for the videos mate!
thanks awesome
I have one question I heard this unit only connects wirelessly with Wi-Fi, is this true or can you hardwire it to the PS4 console by USB? I'm concerned because I would think a unit at this price level would allow both options. I do not trust wireless for reliability of connection.
It’s a USB connection. It doesn’t have wifi
You can not connect the DD2 or SC2 to a PS4. Neither wireless nor via USB.

Regardless it doesn't take long to get setup well.
could you please make a review of the simucube sport ?
Sure if I can get my hands on one.
and there it is!
As with anything, the last 10-20% is the hardest and most expensive to achieve.
@@Kev84M you can also buy the 90$ fanatec qr and use any 3rd party wheel with a 6x70 bolt pattern and usb cable.
Just downloaded the new driver for my DD1, thank you mate! I'm getting a new screen these days, should I go with triple screen or with ultrawide one? Anyone who has tried both?
Triples. Ultrawide doesn’t curve around enough to offer anywhere near the same level of immersion.
@@boostedmedia alright, I'll start there, greatly appreciate it
@Zachary Menking I love oval racing tooo, that the biggest reason I'd try iracing, I wish nascar would make a great sim with every different series, including arca and kn
@Zachary Menking you definetly struck my interest, imma check it out. I'm debating heat 4 but heat 3 has so much I dont like that I'm probably gonna hold out till heat 5 or if there is ever a good sim
@Zachary Menking alright I appreciate it, definetly gonna do some digging into this.
Which driver and FW did you settle on ?
352
@@boostedmedia did they just come out? last time I checked the beta was 345, I think.
Thank you very much!
F1 2019 has triple screen support?
Not proper support. Only using Nvidia surround.
Yes part 3 😁
Thanks for being patient :)
Great review! I'd love to see a DD1 vs. DD2 on this channel.
Theyre indistinguishable in a blind test.
@@MntRprznt Good to know, because in Canada it is the difference between $1900+tax or $2500+tax. I was leaning towards the DD1 anyways.
@@sporadikstyles I got the DD1 just because of it, and to be honest, realistically the max FFB strenght i set it to is about 75%. So that DD2 power overhead would give me absolutely nothing, and a power lead with an on/off button is just as good as a killswitch. Never needed it though.
@@MntRprznt I am about to hit the button on a DD1 myself
Not sure why a regular consumer would buy a DD2. I think its for professional teams.
Does the 911 wheel work with xbox one
No.
Is there any wheel that's compatible with ps4 and xbox ine
Lol! This was the first time I’d ever scripted a video and used my teleprompter. I wasn’t as awkward as I thought I might be.
I am honestly wondering the same thing. It’s certainly stronger but yeah. I wish I could answer that one.
placebo effect on the Direct Drive hype i guess...
i installed the new beta 352 on my csw V2.5 and nope went straight back to the 347, the feeling was way to heavy and damped, but i guess this update is more aimed for the DD wheel bases

Fanatec use 1 cpu while simucube use 2? If this is true in the longrun Granite devies will squeeze out more juice than my dd2 guys
good job
Now do a sc2 pro vs ultimate :D
Don’t have a Pro currently. But trying to get my hands on a loaner.
@@boostedmedia Yeah i was half way joking:) Cuse it aint cheap:) But it would be intresting for sure
Stop using your right arm every single 15 seconds while discussing I know it's silly but if you see it it looks strange. Nice review anyway liked it!
Dam I want a dd1/dd2
iracing is 360hz if you don't set it up to average ffb to 60hz.
well maybe it wasn't back then. still real 360hz will be a better experience than a reconstructed information.
