    Keeping up with common maintenance items is crucial to keeping your Volvo running in perfect order and is generally a simple task in terms of installation. By doing the maintenance yourself you'll save time, money, and you'll know the job was done right. Jay is here to show you how to get this quick and easy job done right.
    Spark plugs and ignition coils are often overlooked by average owners since they're only changed once every 50k-100k miles and are usually hidden under layers of plastic or metal. However, they're important in keeping engines running smoothly with no misfires. If you notice a rough idle, intermittent loss of power, or otherwise unusual engine behavior, you may have faulty plugs or coils.

    Nice, but no mention of the tools used to remove / replace the spark plugs. No need for remove the cross bar thingy. However it's helpful to remove the turbo vent hose on the back ends to loosen. My 05 xc70 of uses 8mm bolts for the coils.

    Shouldn't the area around the old spark plugs be cleaned Prior to removing them? To avoid debris from getting in the cylinder?
    What is your advice on cleaning the area around the old spark plug. I realize some spark plug ports are clean but mine are not on my 2004 s60 2.4l.

      I'm a bit late to comment, but try using a leaf blower or vacuum cleaner to get the debris out of there (or just anything thats able to blow air inside of the holes).

      If the coils haven't been changed in awhile it's a good idea to change them out. Overtime the performance of the coils will deteriorate even if it doesn't trigger a check engine light.

      Older cars have one Ignition coil. Just think if you had 5, and they are all as old as the car. Its time to replace. I would replace coils every 50,000 miles, or when they start cracking. Use FCP for lifetime warranty and never worry about it again.

      22 ft-lb (30n-m) for the spark plugs, just make the coils snug!

    • @fcpeuro

      You can just replace one coil. However, usually if one coil goes bad, the others will soon follow.

    Should I replace the spark plugs if I am replacing the coils? (one coil went bad and I changed all of them)

      It's a good idea to replace the spark plugs at the same time if they haven't been changed in awhile.

    Are the markings on the coils related to the firing order. I have a bad coil on cylinder 4. I don't know which one? Thanks

    • @fcpeuro

      Yes, the markings drawn in this video are related to the firing order.

      @FCP Euro thank you very much. Unrelated question. Is it common on these vehicles for the Coolant Level sensor to fail or need replacement when you replace the coolant tank? Thanks

    • @fcpeuro
      @fcpeuro  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's usually not common.

    the spark plugs are quite tight in my Volvo (2004 S80 T6), was able to loosen all but 2. Don't want to put to much force on them. Left the car cool down for days, but nothing yet. What is your recommendation on loosening up those spark plugs. I bought both plugs and coils at FCP Euro. Also it will be great if you mention in all your great videos, at least the mayor diagnostic clue to replace the part you are replacing. In my case All the sudden the engine started hesitating heavily, seems to recover for few seconds raising RPMs and running fine for few seconds and then hesitates again, some times up to the point to turning off. I starting to doubt that replacing coils and plugs will fix the problem. What FCP euro part should I buy and replace instead?

    • @fcpeuro
      @fcpeuro  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's only one way to remove them, I'd recommend to try to work them back and forth, tighten, loosen, tighten loosen, etc. Do this until your able to remove them fully. Also, chances are that your vehicle has a check engine light. I recommend to scan the vehicle for DTC's which will give you a direction to follow based on which DTC's populate.

      Luis Gonzalez ALWAYS change spark plugs on a cold engine. Do not drive around and then try to just let it cool down some.. do this in a morning when the car has not been ran. Use some anti seize on plugs that aren’t zinc coated torque to 22ftlbs and that won’t happen again
