I love Metal Jesuses game room it’s cozy and is filled with personality. He seems like a super fun guy to hang out with. From what I’ve observed the west coast game shops have much more diversity in games than east coast shops.
Apart from the tight slots, the big problem with the Retron 5 is on the software side. Hyperkin have stolen code from popular emulators and open source projects without giving credit or financial compensation to the original authors. Oh yeah, and it´s not so much a console and more of an emulation machine, so the "easy footage" taken of this will be easier and faster done with an emu on the PC rendering it, scale that puppy up to 4K. Still, great show as always, take care!
***** The problem isn´t that it´s an emulation-machine. It´s that they are making money off of open source software they don´t own or have the right to distribute. There´s been numerous articles about this, and they have been pulled off store shelves at some point. I don´t know all the details but it´s shady as hell, and I wouldn´t take one if they gave it to me for free.
***** This is all speculation, but I think they ceased production and jacked up the prices to make as much bank as possible before they cut and run. Imo all the machines other faults pales in comparison to breaking GNU GPL.
uhhhh they're using open source and charging !! spooky scary !! we all have a lawyer inside of us !! lol, meh, me personally i never let these kind of internet hive facts get to me, if i enjoy something, i'm going to enjoy it and i don't give two shits about the "in-depth" details, let the "owners" and "lawyers" handle that shit, it's not my job to worry about that shit
MJR - I love your channel - and I've only recently subscribed! When it's been a long, tiring day, it's just so ace to find one of your videos and kick back. I've been a gamer since I was old enough to type on the mid-80s Amstrad CPC (cartridge home PC here in the UK) and your vids have inspired me to start a collection of my own. Your 'buying guide' and 'hidden gems' vids are invaluable and I love your guest stars. Kinsey is brilliant :) Thanks for taking the time to share you passion with us, you seem like a rockin' guy! Cal, Scotland :) Ace channel!
Probably a little weird but one of my favorite parts of the week is coming home from work, having a little meal, and watching your new video every friday. I love it! Keep it up!
If you like Kyuss, check out Slo Burn, Unida and Vista Chino. Unida and Vista Chino are closer sounding to Kyuss though, as they both have Kyuss members in them including Carcia....No Homme obviously. Olivari was bassist for VC while Scott Reeder plays for Unida.
Man that Pantera album brings back so many memories. I was into Phish, my bro and his friends liked that stuff. When I first saw that cover and title, I was blown away. Vulgar Display of Power might be the greatest album title ever.
Just started watching your channel, love it. I like that you have a lot of voice, you're mellow, and you're pretty transparent without punching viewers in the face with the "just my opinion" schtick. You just talk, and I want to listen. Great voice for video, too. Hopefully I have something interesting to send you someday.
Considering you used to work at Sierra and you have a SegaCD now you need to get The Adventures of Willy Beamish and Rise of the Dragon. Both of them are great on the SegaCD with full speech.
When I heard they are from QOTSA I checked them out and they are pretty good. I listened to about half the album that your showing in your vid. They definitely have a crazy care free rock sound to them (which isn't bad, but actually a little refreshing). They do have a hint of QOTSA sound to them, but almost sound like a totally different group in some ways as in the vocals, quicker guitar playing and sound all together. It's hard to describe. I can see why you like them though. Reminds me of those unknown or even cover bands that play in bars. Seems like with QOTSA they went for clear/simple vocals, cleaner and simple tunes, but with a hint of their old riffs thrown in. I look at is as the best of both worlds old and new. Thanks for sharing that really cool find. I never knew they had another band. A great band that sounds like a combo of the Kyuss and QOTSA bands I think would be Foo Fighters.
Thank you Metal Jesus for always reminding us of what's important and Fry (from Futurama) once said and I second: "I realized what makes me happy and it's not people. It's things." To what Bender replied: "I'm a thing."
Deadly Premonition and Spy Fiction were both spearheaded by the same guy: Hidetaka Suehiro, a.k.a. SWERY. If you're a fan of his work, you should check out D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die on the Xbox One.
Crazy. I just finished DP and right before watching this video I was looking up what kind of game Spy Fiction is. I'm very interested in this swery guy and I kind of want to see what Twin Peaks is all about. I hear a lot of comparisons with that show and this deadly premonition.
If your a Star Trek fan you should check out: Star Trek Continues E03 "Fairest of Them All" You may think it's just a fan show, and it is but it's done so well. It will blow your mind. In fact the main person behind this whole show is the well known anime voice actor Vic Mignogna of full Metal Alchemist fame.
I had to share a thought that hit me while reading all these comments. I used to be a bouncer in the Portland area many years ago, right when I was starting to build my Zelda collection. Damageplan came to play at my venue, the Bossanova Supper Club. Hell of a night. I believe it was a wednesday. Everyone had a great time. Dimebag had our head of security on stage and was trying to feed shots to him and all of us in the pit crew. Just a ton of fun. Just about 3 weeks later, Dimebag was killed. Very somber times from that point forward.
Fantastic that you finally got a Sega CDX, wouldn't mind one of those myself. That Golden Tee plug and play is definitely an interesting looking unit. Some excellent big box PC game additions.
Hey MJ, if you ever make it out to the San Francisco Bay Area, there is an amazing Record store called the Record Man in Redwood City. I live in Vegas now, but they literally have the absolute largest vinyl collection I have ever seen, great prices, and I do remember him giving people a deal if they buy more than a few records. There is also a small retro video game store that is located in the back called Planet Mix. You can check that out too.
Haven't paid attention to Genesis game values in a while so I'm pleasantly surprised to see Hyperstone Heist as much as it is now. Bought it for less than $20 some years ago.
Hey MetalJesusRocks, glad you like the Pseudo Saturn Action Replay. Now that you have that, I've got something else for you...Fan Translations, Unreleased games, and Homebrew for Saturn. PS: I'm actually a Portlander :-D
How do you mod an action replay cart to play backups? i have one of the older 1mb ram versions and would really like to try this mod on it, otherwise i will never get to finish Panzer Dragoon saga (I've got the 1st disk marked as a demo)
You need to have a means to reprogram the cart (PC Comms link or a flash program). The flash program runs on modded saturns that can play homebrew and burnt discs already.
AMurder0fCrows Is that something available to purchase, or is this a fairly easy thing to pull off? I know back-ups are frowned upon, but I really don't want to drop hundreds of dollars just to experience Panzer Dragoon Saga. I'd gladly fork up cash for a modded action replay.
Nick Maida Hello Nick Yes, it is available for Purchase, but Panzer Dragoon Saga (and PD2 Zwei) has code that detects the presence of a cart in the Saturn cart slot. If a non-memory cart only cart is found in the slot, the game will halt and display a message telling you the cart isn't compatible with the game. Unflashed Action Replays and gameshark carts have some cheat codes that will bypass that screen, making the game playable. Pseudo Saturn flashed Action Replays do not have the cheat code functionality. As a result, a flashed cart will not be able to play PDS by itself. This is why there is about a 95% compatibility rate with a flashed action replay.
Ah. Well that's a shame. I had Zwei back in the day, but no idea where that game is now. Oh well. If you do have any for sale, I'd be more then happy to purchase one all the same. I'll just have to save up for a proper Saga!
Bit of a connection with Spectrum Holobyte and Star Trek, they did a lot of games based on The Next Generation series and one of them I'd recommend checking out is A Final Unity which is a point n' click adventure just like 25th Anniversary, probably my favourite Star Trek game ever.
So many good pickups! That cib TMNT for Genesis is pretty damn sick dude. Love that game. But it warmed my black heart to see that Vulgar Display of Power vinyl! By Demons Be Driven!!! Awesome album, awesome score.
Is that Pete Dorr at 0:26 ? he has an awesome video game collection and he's a really good bloke to boot. That Retron 5 is available in U.K. Europe for only £41.99 !!!!
I have to admit that Kyuss was a good choice. Another a great album I get to add thanks to this channel :-). Space Cadet on Welcome To Sky Valley is a great song BTW.
I enjoy that you are a fan and collect for the PSP. I got lost after it fell out the main stream. But your videos have helped me discover games to buy for it. I like DL games. But I'm a sucker for hard copy games. I just love having a nice case for it as well as the art work.

I really miss Sega making consoles. They left a sincere legacy of top hardware didn't they?! Wicked pick Ups MJ! I've never been a huge fan of plug and plays though. Nonetheless, great video.
I have also managed to pick over 22 games last month, mostly psp and ds games. MetalJesusRocks Have you actually finished playing most of your game collections? How would you say is the percentage of the games of you completed? Do you have a backlog? =)
Very cool pickup on the Star Trek games. A couple years ago I picked both up for my collection. They are pretty cool games. Magic Candle series is very underrated. I still need to get a boxed copy of 3 for myself hehe.
Still wanting to get a Retron 5. For me I want it for the ability to transfer saves from the original carts for GB/GBC/GBA games to the system and then back. Also being able to patch Japanese games on the system, is pretty cool as well. So A Japanese RPG could be translated to English if a patch exists.
Cool Golden Tee unit...I got one at Goodwill, and it is fun. Any word on an Atari trackball plug-and-play, which could include Centipede, Millipede, Marble Madness, Crystal Castles, and countless others? Currently I use a Nyko Trackball on my PS2 to play the above games...
An unopened fallout 2? That would have been like a dream come true for me too. That or an unopened homeworld; and thank you for turning me on to kyuss. I love Queens and never heard this group.
Man, Ace and Peter's 1977 solo's were the two most underrated of the 4 solo records, Ace's is perfect front to back!
I love Metal Jesuses game room it’s cozy and is filled with personality. He seems like a super fun guy to hang out with. From what I’ve observed the west coast game shops have much more diversity in games than east coast shops.

Cal, Scotland :) Ace channel!
Thank you for providing quality videos each and every week! You are one of my favorite channels on TH-cam!
What a throw back, this took me back to when I first started watching this channel so many years ago. Better days 😌
Probably a little weird but one of my favorite parts of the week is coming home from work, having a little meal, and watching your new video every friday. I love it!
Keep it up!
Man you have some cool taste in music, so far you've led me to track down Candlebox, Opeth and now Kyuss. Thanks a million dude (from the UK)!
What are some MUST OWN Sega CD games for my collection now that I own the console?
After Burner III
Lunar
Final Fight is on Sega CD!
Please check out Popful Mail for sure plus Vay and Robo Aleste.
Shining Force CD is a good one I've been looking for.
I don't understand why people send you games. Is it just to hear their name mentioned on a TH-cam video?
I do not know who is a bigger nerd, you for making this video, or me for watching it and liking all 30mins of it. :)
'Rob Schneider., kind of a 90's comedian.' You're too kind MJ lol
If you like Kyuss, check out Slo Burn, Unida and Vista Chino. Unida and Vista Chino are closer sounding to Kyuss though, as they both have Kyuss members in them including Carcia....No Homme obviously. Olivari was bassist for VC while Scott Reeder plays for Unida.

Welcome to Sky Valley is a godsend of an album. I need that vinyl in my collection. Thanks for introducing me to them to me!

Considering you used to work at Sierra and you have a SegaCD now you need to get The Adventures of Willy Beamish and Rise of the Dragon. Both of them are great on the SegaCD with full speech.
I prefer the PC version of Willy Beamish to be honest, since it has voice acting as well minus the absolutely horrific load times.

just been on 99 gamers, the metal dude is right again, its awesome, cheers mate from Ireland, big fans here :)
So many pickups. I'm looking forward to the future uplaods using the Retron 5. What a difference it makes on the GBA games.
Thank you Metal Jesus for always reminding us of what's important and Fry (from Futurama) once said and I second:

I went all fanboy over his work as Kirk, and he took it in his stride :)
so many great games here
Please, keep doing videos, a lot of entertainment, history and knowledge i get it from your videos. Thanks. A hug from Costa Rica

MJR is like "fuck i have a LOT of games"
Rob Schnieder finds out that being trapped in a video game isn't all that it's cracked up to be!
These are my favourite pickup videos. Keep up the good vids MJ.
Seen Kyuss live a few years back. Absolutely amazing great pick up!
vinceremedy Kyuss Lives or Kyuss? We talking recently or pre- QOTSA days?
I used to listen to Sky Valley every day. That's an awesome pickup.
thank you MetalJesusRocks for getting me hooked on 99Gamers
you rock
cheers
-FAT Mike
I freaking LOVE 25th and Judgement Rites. Huge part of my childhood.
Seriously MJR your pickup videos are top of the line! :) great stuff!
Fantastic that you finally got a Sega CDX, wouldn't mind one of those myself.
That Golden Tee plug and play is definitely an interesting looking unit.
Some excellent big box PC game additions.
That's impressive. I don't think I've bought 50 games over the course of my life, and I love video games!
apparently not
That Hammerin' Hero game looks like a lot of fun. Will be on the lookout for it.
Cool, Kyuss! I have Blues for the Red Sun+...And the Circus Leaves Town vinyls. Going to buy the other ones when I have extra money.
Crazy Taxi 3 is freaking amazing! Got really excited when you mentioned it
I got Vulgar Display of Power from the library back in the 90s. I loved it so much I never brought it back.
Congrats on the pickups! MJR:s game collections needs to be added to Unescos world herritage list pronto!
That Fallout 2-box looks amazing! What a great find! Awesome video as always, MJ!
I love the hyperstone heist turtles game I played it a lot in the parking lot of my high school at lunch time back in the day.

And another 5 games for my buy list....
Man your videos are so expensive for me, but keep on the good work.
Oh baby, Kyuss!! Gotta dust the cd and pop the fucker in.. now where did I put it?!
Haven't paid attention to Genesis game values in a while so I'm pleasantly surprised to see Hyperstone Heist as much as it is now. Bought it for less than $20 some years ago.
I bought that same Mother 3 translation cart. They were at Retropalooza too. Pretty killer!
hey metal jesus thanks for introducing me to Kyuss they are amazing

The rest of Kyuss (that didn't become Queens of the Stone Age) are in a band called Vista Chino...
Good stuff!
Hey Metal, your videos are real cool and let's me just kick back and enjoy. Thanks and keep it up brotha.
So many good pickups! That cib TMNT for Genesis is pretty damn sick dude. Love that game. But it warmed my black heart to see that Vulgar Display of Power vinyl! By Demons Be Driven!!! Awesome album, awesome score.
I love your channel, your videos are ALWAYS a pleasure to watch!
The Retron5 is just a ARM SOC running Linux and a customized (and in violation it's licenses) version of RetroArch.
I've been meaning to check out Kyuss properly for ages. I hunk I will now. Thanks!
those vinyl pick ups are top notch
Spy Fiction was actually made by the same director as Deadly Premonition, Swery65. Funny that you listed them in sequence!
is it as bizzarre and ridiculous as deadly premonition or D4?
Space Cadet!!!! Demon Cleaner!! AGGHHH so good!
Is that Pete Dorr at 0:26 ? he has an awesome video game collection and he's a really good bloke to boot. That Retron 5 is available in U.K. Europe for only £41.99 !!!!
Thanks for the great coverage of Armed For Battle. I really hope you enjoy it. Keep in touch!
Legit, I went and bought Folklore because of the PS3 Hidden Gems video and I've never been more pleasantly surprised.
I loved my CDX I used to take it and a portable television to school with me so I could play during lunch and my free period.
totally had that T2 screensaver back in the day.
My favorite Sega CD game is Cobra Command...based on the arcade LaserDisc technology...
I love the Boxart for old pc gaming
I have to admit that Kyuss was a good choice. Another a great album I get to add thanks to this channel :-). Space Cadet on Welcome To Sky Valley is a great song BTW.

I enjoy that you are a fan and collect for the PSP. I got lost after it fell out the main stream. But your videos have helped me discover games to buy for it. I like DL games. But I'm a sucker for hard copy games. I just love having a nice case for it as well as the art work.
Oh, you picked up Time Hollow!
Have you ever played or looked into the Zero Escape series for the DS and 3DS? Really awesome visual novels and 999 has the spot for my favorite DS game of all time.
How dare you put Shaq - Fu on top of Hyperstone Heist! Lol
Oh man I'd love to get a CIB copy of Stunt Driver. It was my absolute favorite PC game back in my 486 DOS games. So jealous congrats :)
Always a fan of your pick up videos. So many games indeed!
Pantera!!!! \m/ Texas Metal band. I'm Texas born and raised and absolutely love Pantera and Dimebag.
Just checked out those Kyuss albums. Thanks for the tip!

An unopened fallout 2? That would have been like a dream come true for me too. That or an unopened homeworld; and thank you for turning me on to kyuss. I love Queens and never heard this group.
VDOP! Pantera and video games, you have great taste my friend, and thank you for continuing to make these videos. Rock on!

Really love your channel man. Awsome job, keep up the good work
Welcome to Sky valley was the soundtrack to my first year of university.
Hyperstone Heist with the manual... no way!
Very Awesome Vinyl Pickups!
MetalJesus goes very Monty Python (Terry Jones) at 6m25s. Bravo squire.
Unfortunate that the statue was missing the weapons but still a really cool find I saw one at mega con for $99
