Thank you for a great start to EQ in Mainstage. It's a powerful tool to use. You alluded to the most important reason to use an EQ. Why should you EQ. As an audio engineer I have spent more time behind the console than a keyboard. The #1 problem the FOH has with musicians is how they sit in the mix. Something that many worship teams fail to address during rehearsal. They address the notes played and who sings what, but not how the bass sounds with the keys and how the guitars interact with the vocalists. Everyone brings their best fullest sound to the stage and what do we get? MUD! On key's a great sounding sound in your cans can cause a negative impact when added to all the other instruments on the stage. Far to often Worship teams do not take the time to understand the impact of the arrangement of the music. And the fact that the production part of the song is just as important of who plays what and when do they play it. So as you're choosing what you want to EQ, Talk with your bassist to understand what they will be playing. You may want to cover the sub bass 80hz and below as they bassist may have plans to play higher on the neck with a distortion effect that will leave the bottom end open. Or you may just want to shift up an octave to leave the bottom end open. Bands that don't communicate well will have instruments playing over each other. So communication is key to the ensemble working well. So talk about the arrangement then make your EQ changes. Thanks
One thing everyone needs to know about EQ it’s not about what you see cause when you mix with EQ you don’t mix with your eyes you mix with your ears so if you don’t see any bad frequency’s that dose not mean there not there cause you don’t mix with your eyes you mix with your ears so make sure you listen with your ears and and don’t do anything with your eyes cause I know how easy it is to mix with your eyes but you gotta get use to mixing with your ears I’ve been a audio engineer for 15 years and I teach mixing and recording music on my channel so EQ is one of those things that takes time but once you learn it it’s easy to use
EQ is so difficult. I use Sunday sounds with iPad pro M2 chip. I really wished I understood how to EQ My patches a little better. I feel as though this is the final step for me with respects to being happy with my sound. I wished SS would prepare like 10 or so EQ patches and teach us how use it on an iPad..
That sound of piano that you are using is not from the mainstahe itself..i tried the Steinway grand piano that comes from mainstage 3 and it’s terible..
