    You can find the mark (small arrows) on the steering wheel sensor (backside!). You rotate this sensor until two arrows are aligment to each other - this is 0 point 😉 Do not drop any material into this hole (you can see arrows through this hole). When you will place the sensor into position, this hole will be closed.
    When you do "calibration", be sure YAW sensor is ~0, G sensor is 0, steering wheel sensor is 0. In my case (Legacy IV) the engine MUST be running on P or N gear. I have tried to calibrate with engine off - VDC error appeared when started to drive. Finally the calibration has been done well with running engine (read the manual 😁).

    How can I do this if I don’t have the scanner to tell me how many degrees the sensor if off by?

    Disconnect the battery and wait a few minutes before working with any airbag connection.

    Dad's 2012 outback had the same issue.
    I replaced the clock spring but didn't know it needed to be calibrated.
    Grabbed my neighbors scanner, watched your video and followed your steps,got it calibrated and now I have less things to fix in this vehicle!
    Thank you very much!

    I replaced the steering wheel and definitely believe i messed with the steering angle sensor too. would that also trip the ABS light? right now have vdc, abs, and hill assist light on, on my 17 wrx

      Yes it will trip all 3 lights. Get it diagnosed to see if you have the C0071 fault.

    Thank you for this video. I was able to correct this issue on my 2011 Subaru Outback using the Foxwell 634 scanner. From what I could tell, it is important to get the sensor in the general zero area to get this to work, if it is out of tolerance too far, it will continually set the code and won't let you clear or recalibrate. I ended up finding the zero (my tires were actually still turned to the right) and then disconnected the steering column and straightened the wheels, then reconnected. Now it is still at zero, drives straight, I can turn the steering through the full range, and the C0071 code does not appear anymore. Disconnecting the steering column between the firewall and power steering pump (two bolts) seemed easier to me than removing the steering wheel to correct the issue. If you are only 360 degrees out, make sure to mark the splines on the power steering pump to get the wheels and steering wheel to stay lined up when reconnecting.

      Exactly my thoughts... Guy I bought my 08 OBXT from Micky Mouse'd his repairs so when I did my water pump and timing set I'm now going back through diagnosing and fixing all the issues, this being the biggest PIA. Cracks me up how frustrated I was when my Launch Diagun X-431 V kept throwing error codes when I tried to zero and recalibrate my SAS. Props for the work around.

    Great! Last year (october 2019) I did the same work on a MY13 Forester, I replaced the clockspring but steering angle sensor was twisted in a 360 degrees turn, because dtc went on when I turned to left (dtc started at 300 degrees). Thinking during about one hour I disassembled the clockspring and SAS, I turned the SAS as you did and the problem was solved. If I were watched your video those time, the solution were been easier haha... thanks for the video

    • @AutomotiveCircuitSolutions

      Do not turn the clockspring in the manner that I turned the steering angle sensor. It will get damaged internally.

    Could the issue have been caused from the work done as a result of takata airbag recall?

    • @AutomotiveCircuitSolutions
      @AutomotiveCircuitSolutions  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm, kind of unlikely because they shouldn't have removed the steering wheel but I guess it's still possible. I usually only see this when someone replaces the clockspring.. carelessly.
