Salt
The salt in my body
The ocean inside of me
An intoxicating tide
A current of aching
And the sea grows heavy
Every pull is abyss-bound
I know that I must leave
I know that I can
In sub-skin chasms
Surges my longing
Uproots time
Erodes my dread
Far from the shore
I glimpse faint memories
I let the heavy sea take me
I sense the tremor of the deep
The ocean swells in me
Is the salt in my tears
And the sea grows heavy
Every pull is abyss-bound
I know that I must leave
I know that I can - บันเทิง
Eivor, please keep on preserving your native language. The world will need it and i will keep on loving it. German greetings.
Yes. This beautiful language/songs need to BE forever. Bless you.
Greetings from Ukraine too!
There´s still hope. Despite no marketing, still hope.
De acuerdo por completo. Cada lengua es mágica.
As a geophysicist and Norwegian that can certainly comprehend the lyrics when written - I wish to point out that the lyrics are damn near explaining "thermohaline circulation". Which is perhaps the most poetic pure-physic non-living global system we have on this planet.
I would need at least 45 minutes to explain just how beautiful it is. That sea-water is salty, that temperature varies a lot - that density of water is depending on both and thus drives our ocean currents at peak rates of billions of tons of water per second is moving - ensuring that nutrients and oxygen is "ventilated" on our blue planet is as beautiful as the fact that we humans need a bit of salt - but can not drink sea-water - but we can drink rainwater - being amazingly distilled like the finest cognac - making water drinkable for the fine people on the Faroe Islands that are surrounded by salt-water at a latitude where ocean-current heat-exchange makes their land beautifully green instead of being a permanent ice-cube.
The reason is that salt indeed makes water grow heavy. And the biggest waterfalls on the planet happens north of the Faroe Islands, in the Nordic Seas. Where all this salty and warm water from the tropics drops into the abyss with volumes that makes all the freshwater rivers on the planet combined look like a literal drop in the sea.
When you look at the "subsurface" ocean-rivers doing counter-current waterfall-thingies (that is a scientific term on youtube) between Shetland and Faroe Islands - yeah - Salt. And rain. And massive amounts of energy.
Can you understand it
That's so interesting, thanks for explaining
what
Truly Amazing
Salt of the Earth. Your explanation was quite beautiful in itself
I can't understand a single word.. but Eivor's voice..... damn it sounds from out of space.. love it so so much
Yeah, exactly...her voice is just 'dripping' with emotion. So beautiful and heartfelt that mere words cannot do it justice. Cannot believe that I didn't discover her sooner....how can a talent such as this be missed?
Ah - not OK, that's a fat slap on the wrist for that! ;-)
Listen to “Khunling “ a thing I’ve unwittingly done all my life. Calling. Calling. She had me rivited the moment I heard her 4 yrs ago
I can't stop watching this music video. The concept is so amazingly simple but... it makes me feel like I'm watching a living ancient goddess sing her message. I just can't get enough.

What a sublime TH-cam hole I've fallen in, I'll be here listening to this beautiful music until the end of time.
Beautiful music for a beautiful woman
Welcome home! I also highly recommend heilung and danhiem. Skoal!
I'm Swedish, so I understand alot of the lyrics by reading it. Our pronounciation is different, but you can hear it's Scandinavian. Scandinavian languages are made for music.
All languages can be used for beautifull music, it depends on the type of music, but that's just my humble opinion, but I agree, it's beautifull.
Hey don't forget us norwegians, I understand like 90% of the words here when reading them!
It sound so melodic can you translate the lyrics?
Jasmine Savard there is english translation available if you expand the text under the video.
@@rolsen1304 Forget? She/he said "scandinavians". :P
What the blazes? Every day I learn something I’ve not ever heard. I’m of Swedish descent, but only just recently re- started life after years of battling leukemia caused by benzene. I devoted the last 7 years of remission studying my Svenske and music. Eivør presented at the end of the first year I was learning guitar. I’m a singer or was. Now Violin, Flute, blues harp and I bought a Cajon to keep up with Trollabundin.
My teacher is a Scot familiar with Shetland and Faroe Islands. He told me it was difficult but beautiful to live there. I recently heard the Faroeans are looking for more female residents? I was considering but I’m no spring chicken, lamb, nor duck.
surging through my body,
the ocean in me.
crashing waves of memory,
currents of longing.
the tide is turning.
the undertow takes ahold of me.
i know i should go now,
i know that it’s time.
in canyons deep within my soul,
torrents of fury.
they carve away my fear,
but the hurt still echoes.
the tide is turning.
the undertow takes ahold of me.
i know i should go now,
i know that it’s time.
out on the horizon,
a storm is brewing.
i let the breakers rush over me
and feel the ocean’s heart pounding.
surging through my body,
the ocean in me.
the tide is turning.
the undertow takes ahold of me.
i know i can go now,
i know that it’s time.
the tide is turning.
the undertow takes ahold of me.
i know i should go now,
i know that it’s time.
i know i should go now.
Aw nooo 😞 it was fun having you here =D
this is actually her english lyric...it's not a translation. the true translation is even more powerful!
The salt in the body
Is the ocean in me
Smothering waves of time
A stream of pain
And the ocean gets heavier
Everything is pulling towards the deep
I know I have to go
I know that I can
Deep in the crevices of my skin
My desires are pouring
Take hold of time
Erase all fear
And the ocean gets heavier
Everything is pulling towards the deep
I know I have to go
I know that I can
Far from the land
I see faint memories
I let the waves take me
I feel the deep sea shake
The ocean is in me
It's the salt of my tears
And the ocean gets heavier
Everything is pulling towards the deep
I know I have to go
I know that I can
My mind is torn between wanting to hang on to every word or sinking into them and losing myself.
I love your work so incredibly much.
The vowels in this language make this just beautiful....
This is cosmic.
Sounds futuristical and ancient at the same time. Maybe the salt is our ego and the ocean is the endless and timeless being?
istván kocsis A good guess, I'd say.
Futuristical isn’t a word
@@ashhalcyon not everyone is a native speaker of English as it's not the only language in the world :)
@@natalinikolic9928 what can we expect from a crusader among pagans like us listening to this sublime melodies? :P
@@ashhalcyon I've studied linguistics and prescriptivism doesn't fly. If someone wants to create a passable, understandable neologism, let them. Futuristical is as much a word as antidisestestablishmentarianism or toast.

ein sárur streymur
og sjógvurin tyngist

She is one of the nicest Women I ever talked to and i have no word to tell how amazing her Music is!
I have such a crush on this beautiful woman and her music
We have all been Enchanted with Her Wonderful Magic/Majik.
This is incredible. She has a very diverse talent. Indeed she can bring the ancient world to life in our age.
The voice; the sound; the words; the visuals : simply perfect in my world 💜
Keep listening it again and again. This is so good. Greetings from Poland!

I just found my new favorite artist. My only complaint is that I didn't find this sooner in my life.
I love the way her hair reflected behind her looks like Angel wings.
Is it the wings of an angel or the tentacles of Nautilus? Is it both, simultaneously? Perhaps this is a lesson you must unwind for yourself... how much of our hopes and dreams are the result of future memories and ancient connections? What ancient creatures have already dreamed this dream that we are commissioned to fulfill?
@@animistchannel2983 wow
Had the pleasure of hearing it live.
This song resonates within me so much. The ocean is like a second mother to me, I feel connected to the waters spiritually. This is a close rendition to what that feeling would sound like. 🖤
From the moment the first notes played I was sold, I am pretty new to her but her music has me hooked.
Hilsen fra Norge. Dette er vakker og mystisk. Tusen takk TH-cam for forslaget!
I'm totally obssesed.Perfection.Take me to the your secret garden Eivor.
I don't understand a single word but have listened to this over 100 times so far... Music goes beyond boundaries. What language is this anyway? so beautiful.
Faroese :) Eivør is from Faroe Island
She has an English version of this song 😊
I need to learn Faroese.
Came from Brasil i teach you ..... ;o) !
Would be easier and cheaper to go to Faroese Islands in Denmark and learn there.
its noth in denmark its much farther north it take one and a half hour by flight from denmark
Per Stenberg älvdalska eller hur?
Your art makes me cry, in a good way, it touches me. You’re music and language are so beautiful and moving. Thank you.
This song makes me feel so many things and as a fellow pisces the water will always mean something extra to me.
💞❤💖🤗 Thank you❤ From the Island of Gotland in the Baltic sea/Sweden 🇸🇪
Dang, this is actually pretty good.
Edit: No, this is awesome
agree
I just keep coming back to this. I've had this CD on repeat for a couple of months now. Sublime.
Yea In island and färöarna they keep the saga alive In sweden we forgot most of that. I envy them and hope they keep the old traditions alive. The language is what all nordic folks spoke back then. same in norway sweden and denmark, we still understand eachother perfectly well but Föröarna have preserved the original language.
So no wonder u think it sounds like old norse songs mate.. cus in a sense they are :D
True, Icelandic and Faroese people can read the old texts from the beginning of the last millennium without much hazzle. It's structurally the same language although we probably wouldn't understand the vikings if they spoke to us. Not easily at least.
Bravo!! 0///
bué da fixe esta lingua né? Encanta-me!

O sal no meu corpo
É o mar em mim,
Um fluxo bêbado de tempo,
Um fluxo doloroso.
E as ondas são assustadoras,
Todas elas puxam para o fundo,
Eu sei que devo ir,
Eu sei que eu posso.
Nas profundezas da minha pele
Meu anseio cai como uma cascata,
Ele agita o tempo,
Come no início da manhã.
E as ondas são assustadoras,
Todas elas puxam para o fundo,
Eu sei que devo ir,
Eu sei que eu posso.
Longe da terra
Eu vagamente me lembro do cinza,
Eu deixei as ondas me levarem,
Eu sinto o mar profundo tremer.
O mar está em mim,
O sal nas minhas lágrimas.
E as ondas são assustadoras,
Todos eles puxam para o fundo,
Eu sei que devo ir,
Eu sei que eu posso.
Gratidão!

Thank you for bringing my heritage and roots of who I am back to me
Alexander Konnoff

A translation from poet to poet.
lyrics to this song is so deep (like a cold ocean :) ) and music is just amazing.
There's great depth to the harmony created of these vibrations. What a contrast there is here in the woman's beautiful and strong voice yet seemingly sorrowful and quasi nihilistic words as well as the slightly harrowing and kind of ominous bass and drums against the sharper sounds and that wonderfully higher pitched voice.

Until this moment I had only heard this in English, and I am glad I found it in... whatever language this is (I'm sorry I don't know!). It sounds so.... PERFECT, and I am so, so glad to hear it, and also to know what it means in my language :D Also, this is one of those songs that is just so evocative and compelling and.... inevitable, as if it always was and always will be and could be no other way. Faroese is the new trendy Elvish language. I've got to learn it!!
How about Elfdalian?
th-cam.com/video/-4llV30zL1Y/w-d-xo.html
Faroese or the other scandinavian languages have actually nothing to do with Tolkien's Elvish. If you're looking for real life Elvish then I suggest you get to know Finnish. That's the language Tolkien adored and used as an inspiration to create Quenya.
Elvish? Preposterous!
Welsh was used as inspiration for the Elvish language in his novels.
