In the lyrics she says she is spellbound by a "Galdramaður", which means the person that does a "galdr", which is a word in Old Norse with two meanings, one is song and the other is incantation, spell. The verb "galana" means to sing or to cast a spell. So she was struck by the Singer/Sorcerer's spell/ song. And then proceeds to sing/ enchant us with her own galdr.

Right now, there are people all over the world who are just like you. They're either lonely, they're missing somebody, they're depressed, they're hurt, they're scarred from the past, they're having personal issues no one knows about, they have secrets you wouldn't believe. They wish, they dream and they hope. And right now, they are sitting here reading these words, and I'm writing this for you so you dont feel alone anymore. Always remember, don't be depressed about the past, don't worry about the future, and just focus on today. If today's not so great don't worry! Tomorrow's a new chance. If you are reading this, be sure to share this around to make others feel better. Have a nice day. :)

agree and has spiritual power for sure i made a connection to the spirit from my girl 5000 km away when we both were listening same song i stared to cry like i was 5 out of nothing 2 min later i get a message she stopping listening it made here remember all the bad thing ad people she lost ..it was her sadness that made me cry make me feel anger rage like i never felt before i was overwhelm and did not know what was happening taken 1 hour for it to disappear at which point she came online and told me all that happened in that hour ...i was in awww cause i had felt every thing she was experiencing like it was me that's real connection of souls right there and believe me i used to be first to laugh if someone should tel me this
i take everything i ever said about spirituality i never had such a powerful feeling in my 40 years and it was spiritual related to her people and us listening same song same time ..that resulted in same feelings same time . i found my mate spiritual partner and now this connection its like we empower each other it you feel complete like a eternal search is over ..ow and yea before this i would have make 3 line text and say something disproving but like i said i feel complete so do my spiritual sens because the separated spirits are hole .may you or anyone experience this i grant you it its i cant describe the feeling . its woawwwwwwwww people have to reconnect to source of being

There's about 70,000 native speakers, so it's not a common language. For about 300 years from the 16th-19th centuries the Danes outlawed the use of Faroese in official writing, so it was a purely oral language until an alphabet was created for it in 1846.
It's remarkably similar to Icelandic and falls in the same family of Norse languages, such as Swedish, Danish, and Norwegian.

I'm icelandic and I always find it so fascinating to hear Faroese. Our languages are so similar in writing, but quite different pronunciation wise. I went through this song, singing the lyrics in Icelandic with a direct translation and it works flawlessly.
    Icelandic version of lyrics:
    Töfrabundinn er ég
    Er ég
    Galdramaður festi mig
    Festi mig
    Töfrabundinn djúpt í minni sál
    Í minni sál
    Í hjartanu logar brennandi bál
    Brennandi bál
    Töfrabundinn er ég
    Er ég
    Galdramaður festi mig
    Festi mig
    Töfrabundinn inn í hjartarót
    Í hjartarót
Auga mitt festist hér er Galdramaðurinn stóð
As you can see, they're almost completely identical with some key differences. I think it's fair to say these are two of earth's most beautiful languages.

Both of her versions are so beautiful: the live seems almost feral and wild, their is a beauty in the passion it is imbued with the live performance...
This is more contemplative , something you'd listen to while driving at night in the winter with a clear sky above you, and the video is pretty.

    • @arjantjeee
      @arjantjeee 5 ปีที่แล้ว +19

There are many different versions. The old celtic Druïds used the Sean nós where as the Germanic Volvas practised this style to evoke a trance to themselves and the people around them. The best singers in this tradition would never sing the same song in the same way but they would adept the song to the moment in various ways so it would intertwine with the moment and the people listening to it hitting them straight into their soul. These songs could either evoke emotions like sadness, happiness, strength, fear or bring people to sleep.
This is why folktunes are often pretty simple in their basis, the real magic lies in using different techniques within the song to weave it into the present environment.
Eivør truly does master this art. Trollabundin is never the same.

Close but not quite correct. I think you'd need to posess some knowledge of old norse lore to get closer to the true meaning of her words. Sal is not soul, more like inner or inside and trollabundin does not not exacly mean spellbound but it's close enough I guess. Trolls are mythical magical beings originating from the mineral kingdom. Beings who can shape shift into human or animal forms and lure humans i.e. bind them with their intoxicating charm and wits to possess their minds i.e. bound by trolls/troll-bound. There are certain troll-charms that people wore (and still wear) to protect against such devious miscreants. They could also be quite friendly at times seeking trade with humans as they could not create beutiful or complex things themselves. Search for John Bauer's illustrations and books on the subject. Norse lore is actually quite unique and beutiful :)

I am awfully late to the 'scene', I realize..regrettably! How is it possible that I didn't found this wonder of a woman before now, I just do not know!
She sings so powerfully and timeless - contemporary yet primal...and,admittedly it doesn't hurt that I can feel a sting of what I perceive as a part of my own 'heritage', as I'm from Sweden. This sounds like what probably the only a few of the best 'bards'/'historians/storytellers' managed to tell before their children, or people at large at gatherings in our shared Old Norse-times.
I'm simply blown away by this magician of a woman....the only thing I regret is not coming across her a lot sooner.....silly me, that used to think that no 'real music' was really being produced any longer. She, with a few other contemporary artists (such as Wardruna, and Einar Selvik, Aurora etc.) have suddenly changed my mind completely!

If you mean the "hyeeeheyeee" part, I believe it's more akin to white voice than to throat singing. White voice is a traditional singing technique where the voice resonates in your nasal cavities; it's meant to carry the sound over long distances. I don't know about Nordic music that much, but white voice was quite common in Slavic folk music as well. If you like it, I think you might like the band Tulia, they did an amazing cover of Nothing Else Matters in this style of singing.

You can call it whatever you like. Eivor made it up as her own sound. That makes this uncoverable. Eivor calls it her own Beatbox style. It adds vocal percussion and allows a minimum of instrumentation. She can do this live just with a single drum. I don't think anyone else could do it though. Eivor is a walking soundtrack, an artistic genius.

I felt so strange but strong energy during the whole show that I cannot even put into words. Unexplainable feels.
Thank you for the astonishing show Lili, Eivør and Heilung! ☺

@@cpt.hindsight Old Icelandic from the 1200s is the same language as Old Norwegian and such, all part of Old West Norse. Almost the same as Old East Norse. But of course, there is always a huge variation across time and location. Think how in London in the 1800s, you technically spoke English, but it's very different from American English today.

I hear people ask about what language is this in and I would like to see the English translation, which would be nice. But I think what makes this song so beautiful is the fact that the words she sings could literally say and mean anything. But the fact that it remains a mystery just makes it that much more enchanting to listen too.

Vertu meðvitaður. Ef þú hlustar á þetta verður þú Eivørbundinn að eilífu. Hún er hin sanna galdrakona. What a sorceress, what a voice! Her fate will be how to stay true to heir haunting roots on those desolate rocks (with a nice but pretty unintelligible language) , whilst such a voice should be commercially world-renowned at the same time. These tunes will stay in our minds however...nothing we can do. Wishing you all the best Eivør! You gave much to many already. Just wow...what a voice...

She's a fantastic artist, and deserves more recognition for her amazing work. And while it would be absolutely super if she were Icelandic, the fact is that she's Faroese. We Icelanders were just fortunate to be allowed to borrow her for a while, and I think most of us are thrilled that she speaks Icelandic and has lent her talent to producing several much-loved versions of various Icelandic songs.
