      DO NOT BUY THIS FUCKING LEMON!!!!!
      I purchased the 2022 Insight Touring package three weeks ago. I purchased it for a daily driver and for road trips around Oregon, specifically to Mt Hood where my family has a tiny ski cabin.
      With guests in the vehicle, it is unable to achieve and maintain highway speeds without the engine redlining with any more than one person in the car. It can barely make it up the 2-3% graded area, and I was terrified to try the 6% graded area. It felt INCREDIBLY unsafe and underpowered. My brother and I both thought something was slipping. The engine revs dramatically and almost no power is sent to the wheels.
      I have no idea how I can use it to carpool. If you know the Portland area, it struggles to get up the west hills of through the tunnel up to Skyline on the way to Beaverton with just me (155 lbs). If I had two people or more in the car, I would feel horribly unsafe.
      I took it to the shop and they said it was working as designed. This is completely unacceptable!
      If you live in a completely flat area or only drive on city streets, yeah it will probably be fine. If you have any hills whatsoever, you are fucked.

      To say that I was impressed with this 2022 insight touring would be an understatement. It drives incredibly well, has very good torque delivery with the hybrid power train, and costs less than $30k while getting over 50mpg. I don’t see how you can go wrong, thank you for the comment!

    Solid review. Would you mind doing a review on the Honda Accord Sport Hybrid? The Insight Touring and the Accord Sport Hybrid are priced the same, was curious what you thought between the two.

    A couple of comments about information in your review.
    I don't know where you got (2:35) the bit about "two lithium-ion batteries." The battery pack of the Insight comprises 60 smaller (they look more like what you would put in a radio than a car) cells, configured in 3 separate racks, held in one frame. It functions as one battery. There is also a more conventional 12V battery that powers the electronics in the car, but is not connected to the engine or generator.
    The Insight has no transmission in the conventional sense. Except in Engine Drive (low power, highway speeds, gear symbol shown in the Power Flow Monitor), there is no mechanical connection between the engine and the wheels. Instead, the engine drives only a generator, and only the 129 HP electric motor drives the car. It is, quite literally, an electric vehicle where the electricity comes from a generator and a battery, instead of just a battery. A better name for the system might have been "vCVT," for "virtual CVT," because there is no physical connection.
    That's why, for example, you were surprised (20:30) that you got up to speed quickly without "a whole lot of power." You actually had the full amount of power the car could handle at low speeds. What was missing was the _sound_ of the engine providing that power. This shouldn't have been surprising, since you had told the computer to use EV mode - that is, to get power from the battery only, until it could not provide enough. It also explains why the engine reaches maximum speed more quickly than a conventional CVT would. It doesn't have to wait for the mechanical gears to catch up.
    The difference in sound characteristics confuses a lot of people. For example, chickengh0st (below), confuses the engine working at the high end of the power curve with redlining. This car will never redline; it will never go past 6000 rpm where it produces maximum power. If chickengh0st had any difficulty climbing mountains - which is not what he claimed, only that it made a lot of noise - then he choose too small of a car for his needs. The Accord would have done better. Anybody wants to drive in mountains should know that you don;t but the smallest engine available in a small car.

    The engine won't rev because it's a generator; it's not connected to the wheels in a standard "obsolete" way. The engine only revs when the drive battery/computer requests electricity for acceleration for the electric drive motor(s). Eventually, Honda will totally electrify their automobiles when batteries become plentiful & cheaper than a supplemental ICE generator. See the TH-cam briefing from Weber State University, College of Automotive Technology, about this car's drive train if you want a clearer explanation.

      While in Park, press the accelerator to the floor and hold it there. Nothing will happen for about ten seconds, and then the engine will "rev" to a fixed rpm.

    I bought a Honda Insight in 2018. After driving I was getting nervous and was losing consciousness and strength in my right hand. I complained to the dealer and Honda company in California but they did not listen. While driving I was getting unconscious, called an ambulance, and had to check the cause, but they couldn’t find any heart trouble or brain trouble or tumors, etc. But later a friend who is an engineer told me that this kind of car is health hazardous. I found out that many have complained about Honda cars for the same problems in the past. After I kept complaining, the Honda dealer asked me to come and promised to change the car. When I went to get another car, he took away 8000 dollars from the faulty car to take it back and sold the other car for more than the price. They never confessed that Honda Insight is a faulty mode and has been discontinued many, many times in the past. I was very hurt. I thank God that I survived, even though they cheated and lied to me. They also wanted me to sell the car to someone, but I couldn’t. I love others as I love myself. I was collapsing. Then how can I give to others? I told them that dishonesty will not bring blessings. But they were so cruel and did not listen, seeing I was a senior and a woman they took advantage of me. They never write when I complain but only talk on the phone. We purchase laws to protect, but we cannot purchase righteous God. Plus, he doesn't care if you are Honda or Toyota. He will fight my battle. I am a missionary living with little income and this giant Honda stole my money, but I tell you my God will give me sevenfold plus back.

      Finally Honda insight discontinued 3rd or 4th time. I have my right hand weakened and not the same ANYMORE.
      I gathered all information from internet. One lady said I was falling a sleep in the car. But I knew I was losing conscious. Plus my friend is ngeeniar and informed me that electric car is harmful. I checked how it harms nurve and weakenes right hand live on TH-cam. It was exactly happened to me. The reality is it ended and removed. Thanks to the LORD JESUS. Bad part when they heard my complaints they sent email and said you baught car from somewhere which I do not know since I baught it from Honda Rockwall. I hv all paper work.

      Don't blame Honda for your lack of research before buying a car, or your ignorance about how the one you picked operates.
      It "felt" underpowered to you, because you incorrectly associate engine noise with performance. The engine revved to 6000 rpm, far below its redline. This is where it produces maximum power (107 HP), and it will not *_EVER_* rev higher.
      The only "lemon" here is the purchaser. Who somehow failed to consider why his driving needs - in the mountains, with four passengers and luggage - require a larger engine than the typical engine put in what is essentially an economy car.

    • @alf6633
      @alf6633 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You probably need a traditional car, not a Hybrid. They're not for everyone. It does feel like its revving high on inclines, but its normal for this car. This car excels as a city commuter. Good news is your dealer will buy it back from you for a great price, as these cars are very valuable right now. I have a 2020 EX, financed most of the cost, and right now its value is way above what I owe now, after 2 years. Go get a low mileage Accord or a CRV.

    • @ericc6004
      @ericc6004 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      2 things I wanted to say. For one, the seals on your engine may have been left open when it was serviced at the dealership, thats why your engines revving. That happened to my insight once after taking it to the dealer. Had to take it back to get it fixed.
      And second, theres no way the insight is under powered. It has double the torque as the Prius and about 20% more horsepower. The Insight has a MAX load rating of 850 pounds. That means if you have 3 passengers in the car and plus luggage in the trunk. You may be approaching its limits and thats why the performance is decreased. You may need a larger hybrid like the Accord to meet you r needs
