I think it’s stupid to consider that a UWR… I mean, I could search up a crazy scramble and get a 2 second solve and get YTWB or something, but that’s not how it works
I am very happy that you addressed this issue, I was going to do it myself, but now that you made a video on it, I am contemplating still doing it😂 amazing video nonetheless, and congrats on the INSANE channel growth!
Smart cubes are fun but I would never count those solves as PBs. Besides I'm happier with a good time on a hard scramble than an amazing time on a ridiculously easy scramble.
If the scramble is done in "random moves", it's not WCA compliant. If the scramble is done in "random state", then it's legal and lucky. Simple as that
This. Random moves does not give an even distribution over all states. With random state, each possible scramble is equally likely. Can still get lucky, but then it truly is just luck and not a bad scrambling program.
Indeed, I see a bunch of comments on here being critical of "smartcubes", but do they or do they not _mathematically_ cause non randomly chosen states?
Afaik Cube Station scrambles are random move, not random state, which makes them significantly less legitimate. You'll notice the 1.05 solution literally reverses the scramble. Also, I wouldn't count any smart cube time as legit anyway even if the scramble is fair because of the lack of pickup/putdown.
the video description in yiheng's 1.92 said that yiheng was trying out bofan's 3x3 scramble and he executed it on a smart cube, though it wasnt the scramble on the app itself. and there's no point in debating on whether this solve is wb or not cos someone other chinese cuber got a 1.05 single on 3x3 like you mentioned in the video...
Cube station totally has Easter scrambles I go from low 20s to mid 22s. Thats with pick no put downs on cube station. Which is no more than a 5th of a second.
You should make a video about “this may be the luckiest cuber ever” Dillion miller just got a 2.95 Pb single (2.3 frame-counted) this solve had an LL skip, he then gets a second LL skip in a row followed by a PLL skip.
I'm actually working on that video right now, just have to come up with a title. That's a pretty good idea for the title, if I do use it I'll shout you out in the description of the video
So my take on it is that the smartcube scrambles are RIDICULOUS as we have seen before because as you said there shouldn’t be a xxxxcross on a reco but we can make like a different category for these scrambles. I also believe that yihengs 1.97 shouldn’t count cause imagine your friend had a good scramble, gave it to you an d you tried it and got a pb time, that wouldn’t count as a PB so it shouldn’t count as WB (in my opinion)
I'm not a cuber. But the problem with this kind of invalidating of records is that there is no clear boundry for invalidation. Okay, if you invalidate 14move solve, why not invalidate the 15 move one.. etc. we can get to any number like that. Maybe implement a rule where a scramble with a computer optimal solution smaller than let's say 20 is an invalid scramble. I'm sure the upper bound of optimal solution is not that big, so my number might not be right.
I think the reason people are invalidating the solve is because it was done on a smartcube (which doesn't include the pick up/put down time of the cube) and the scrambles that the cube's app generates aren't the same as normal computer generated ones. 14 moves is perfectly legal, it's just that the scramble wasn't generated legally
first of all, having a cube 3 moves away from being solved is a dnf right? which means that the cube is scrambled, so if i scramble a cube and solve it in 3 moves in less than a second, does that mean im fast? no. it just means that the scramble was dumb. can i get a that single time but as an average? no. cus thats not my actual speed. so when a cuber gets a really lucky scramble and solves it really fast it doesn’t mean that they are fast. thats my opinion at least, i still think that sub-2 was so damn cool tho.
Since the minimax valua of a Rubik's cube is twenty, would it not be possible to have all generated scrambles be twenty-move solves to make all scrambles technically equal? Or does that take too much computing power to be feasible?
I’m not sure if that’s possible yet. I think there will always be anomalies in a set of scrambles generated. That’s an interesting concept I haven’t thought about before tho
At least with the Python library to do this (even with a 700-meg database to speed the process up), it takes an hour to verify that a given scramble _requires_ 20 moves to solve, since (no disrespect to the optimizations we have found for the algorithm so far) there's no method more efficient than basically just trying every possible sequence of movies shorter than the length. Though cubes that can be solved in _fewer_ than 20 moves will obviously be ruled out much, much quicker.
Welcome to only the beggining of the end. Max and Tymon, please beware. You can't solve this anymore. I swear, YiHeng is a freak of nature. I do the cross in how much time it takes YiHeng on these scrambles. That's how damn ridiculous this is. There's no light. It's time.

My theory is that GAN/CubeStation is purposely generating easy scrambles so that people who don't know the solves aren't legit (e.g. non-cubers) think "GAN's cubes are so much better, I should buy one to get the best times!" This drives more profits to GAN because more people buy their cubes.
If a scramble isn't generated right then before the solve, it shouldn't count IMO. There are good solves and bad solves, and getting a good time is about the skills and the dedication to keep going until you get a lucky scramble. That just gets rid of the second element. It's like in minecraft RSG doing a run on a seed you already know is good. Even if it's your first time on it it kinda defeats the purpose
smart cube scrambles are pretty consistently too lucky to count, and the use of smart cubes should be an automatic disqualification for world bests. its getting to the point these days when things like this are popping up far too often to be either fair or realistic. we need to stop losing our minds about people claiming 1 second solves with
I have tried smartcubes before and I don't think they should count because I have gotten some stupid scrambles. I count my pb as 5.42 but if smartcubes counted I would've beaten the world record. That doesn't seem right to me.
The fact that all these were smart cube scrambles tells it all I don't think we can count them and like you told the pickup and stopping times are also not there for smart cube solves so it's (kinda ) not legit

Even a hand scramble would be more random than those 'scrambles'.
No matter how much we think that 3x3 single can't be done any faster, I think that the world record will be sub 1 when someone gets 2 move scramble, but I don't know if that rule of 2 moves is right, because with such a scramble a regular person who is not a speedcuber can also set the world record.
