    • @manusoftar
      @manusoftar 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +46

      if you are a cuber you may have realized the color scheme on that cube was not correct... there is something odd about that cube.

    • @Wright1331
      @Wright1331 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +96

      @@manusoftar you are dead wrong. the main part of the trick is that she was able to solve the side a normal cube half way while looking at it, and then the rest while looking away and talking to Penn

    • @Autoskip
      @Autoskip 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +68

      @@manusoftar It was non-standard colours, but I'm 99% sure that I could hand her any one of my 3x3 cubes, and she could do the trick just as well.

    • @manusoftar
      @manusoftar 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +47

      @@Wright1331 I know, I was just saying it looked odd to see that color pattern...
      The trick is no mistery, there are a couple of options for some parts (like, how did she managed to know which color did Penn choose, because it was clearly not a force, she could have done that by memory like knowing the original orientantion of the cube and keeping the order on her head as she turned the cube around or even by having some kind of tactile assitance on the cube itself to help her know which face she was touching) but it pretty straight forward.

    • @manusoftar
      @manusoftar 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +19

      @@Autoskip yep, it's not a gimmicked cube, it's just odd that she didn't use a regular color scheme for it...
      there are many ways in which she may have known which color did Penn choose... she may have memorized the orientation she started from and keep a mind record of how many movements she did on her back until Penn asked her to stop to know exactly on which color she landed, or even have something on the cube, like something she could feel by tact to know which face Penn choose.
      The rest is just solving the first face but disregarding the other of the cross and corners so it is not that obvious that she, basically solved that face.
      The block part is a commercial thing that has been used for years (Like, the bowling ball from a paper block, and even David Copperfield has a trick where he draws a landscape and then makes the moon rise on the paper and lastly he rips the page and gives it to the spectator).

  • @mranderson978

    The real magic is solving the face of the cube while simultaneously talking to Penn, without looking like you're solving the face of a cube. Emma, you're obviously a very experienced cuber. Most cubers I talk to can't maintain a conversation while solving a face.

    • @Ricky.Moszer
      @Ricky.Moszer 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +66

      It's not really solving the face. It's really just getting 8 pieces around a center. If it were a solved face, there would be 3 consecutive colors on the bottom row of each side.

    Another performance that clearly demonstrates that winning the trophy is not the main goal of this show. The true purpose is to witness amazing magicians perform even more amazing magic acts. Your stage presence is incredible; you're confident, professional, and it is clear that you love being there and performing magic tricks. You even handled Penn professionally. You didn't let him look around and carelessly touch things at the end. No, you placed the piece of paper in his hand and essentially said, 'Here you go, you can examine this as much as you want. The last two moves before she puts it in his hand were the whole trick, and I don’t know how she did it. I can solve a cube the slow “baby cuber” way. Knowing the color and working the notebook are clearly the “easy” parts of the trick. Talking to and guiding Penn while handling the cube and making it look mixed up until the very last moment are the deep skills. I’m sure Penn could pull this off, but Teller could never.. because he’s so bad at talking to people.

    I've watched cubers, particularly speed cubers, for many years and what elevates this to a magic trick isn't just the props and the marker reveal, it's that you barely glanced at the cube while you gave it a few extra spins and instead gave your assistant and your audience your attention. I legitimately forgot the fundamental rule of cube magic because of your engagement. Truly some splendid work.

  • @infadeldog13
    @infadeldog13 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +35

    Not only is this a very entertains, engaging and clever trick, but how she hid how she did it from all but the most trained eye is magic in itself. I watched it back and I think I’ve worked it out, but that only makes it that much more impressive - to call this a mere ‘trick’ does not give true justice to what is required to perform it. I therefore know Penn wasn’t lying when he said he and Teller could never learn it. Knowing how it’s done is one thing, but being able to actually do it is a whole other story. Amazing - wishing this clever lady every success.

Not just solving for yellow, but solving for yellow while acting like you're not solving it, while HOLDING A CONVERSATION and often not even looking at the cube. And having to time it out, leaving it X number of steps unsolved until you put it in Penn's hand, so that it's still showing yellow on multiple sides while it's in there. And having to do those final steps of the solution as slight of hand, making it look natural. Such a tremendous, staggering amount of skill on display.

      @@Dayvit78 Some skills require specific mental powers that cannot be learned. It needs to be a born genius to be able to master them. I do not claim that other magicians use real magic, as there is no such thing as real magic. While I fully understand the steps, I would be incapable of performing them nowhere close to that speed and confidence as I saw in the video (and most likely I would make a mistake somewhere). Many "magic moves" do not require special skills, just practice. But this is not just practice, it is about being a genius. Comparable to top musicians who master their instrument in a way that the vast majority of fairly good players never achieve, even if they practice for decades. Some people have a gift to play the violin like nobody else, some people have other gifts. Some of us, like me, have none. 🙂 But that does not mean we cannot enjoy and appreciate performances by those who have them.
